Don't mind them, they were aptly described by Hillary Clinton as deplorable. Pence has said numerous times that he lacked the powers to reject electoral votes. He even wrote a letter to the Senate to reiterate it. Just because pence explained what would have happened had he rejected the votes, the deplorables jumped on that to push the narrative that pence said he has the legal authority to reject electoral votes already confirmed by state executives and legislatures.

Tinubu said horrible things about Buhari during the 2003, 2007 and 2011 election cycles. By 2015 he was the strongest ally of the same Buhari. Even atiku and Tinubu were strong allies in 2007 and 2015, but are are worst enemies today.

Tinubu did not handle the Niger situation well at all. I am sure he just issued threats to Niger (a sovereign country) without consulting with diplomats. Also the fact that he has not appointed a foreign minister did not help matters. You don't get directly involved with the power struggles of another nation. You don't threaten a new set of leaders with war, most especially a next door neighbour. You wait to see how things play out before taking action. You can condemn a coup, you can make a general ecowas statement but never threaten to use force or violence. You even don't break diplomatic relations. We have lost control of the Niger situation. They have turned to Russia and the other fellow coup coalition countries for support.

The idea that extra terrestrial intelligences exist is no longer fringe or weird. It is mainstream, and it is gradually being confirmed by authorities in the states. There is also a preponderance of evidence in this regard. I do not think those who acknowledge aliens visiting earth are lunatics, I just think its a belief that people have invested their emotions on, just like any other religious beliefs. They rely on second, third or even fifth account narratives and not on actual eye witness accounts. All the so called eye witness accounts, photos, videos are never concrete or convincing proof but grainy and unclear objects or lights. Even yours truly have seen what you will consider unidentified flying objects twice in my lifetime, but I leave it as unknown or unidentified instead of making a conjecture of what they were.
In this modern age where everyone carries a camera and audio recorder always, if alien craft comes anywhere near where people are, they would have been recorded. Also in this age of satellites that can give clear pictures of cars on the road, I am sure they would have captured at least one clear picture of an alien craft.

Now, if these unidentified flying objects are actually non human crafts or abnormal weather phenomenon, then I believe they would be of terrestrial origin and not from another star system, because as I said, the physics, technology and energy to bridge the huge distance barrier is impossible according to our own science. But it would make more sense if it was an ancient advanced terrestrial civilization that is hiding some where inside the earth, maybe somewhere on the south Pole, inside the furthest depth of the ocean or in some underground space inside the earth. Then they come out to the surface occasionally to check us out in a non intrusive way.

I have read all Eric Von Danikens books, I gave read other theories of aliens from the bible and past. You should know I know what I am talking about.

The watched the video in the link. I am not convinced it's an alien craft from another star. To me it could be anything, that's why it is referred to as "Unidentified Flying Object" Even the report said many people tried to hypothesise different explanations.
You know people like me don't subscribe to the God of the Gaps" as explanation for unknown phenomenon. Aliens has become the "God of the Gaps" for Unknown or unidentified flying objects.

If aliens could actually break the light barrier and have the capacity to travel the great distances between stars, then their physics and technology would be way beyond ours. That means the have a huge source of energy we are yet to discover.

Mars is too small to retain an atmosphere or gasses necessary for life. Mars cannot even retain liquid water for long periods on its surface.

Mars does not have a magnetic core that can generate magnetic field to protect it from highly charged energy particles from the sun.

Now, it's possible for microbial life to have evolved for brief periods in the past whereby water temporarily seeped out from the interior to flood the surface, but such microbial life cannot be sustained for enough time yo evolve into multicellular organisms.

And I am in my forties. It is also not true that democracy has not brought infrastructure. It has brought a lot. Projects like Eko Atlantic and the Lekki Ikoyi Bridge were not the work of military hands.

First and foremost those projects are privately funded or tolled. Then those projects confirmed what I first said, that those projects were built with small privileged group in mind - the elite, and not the generality of the poor lagos masses. Now let's compare to military rule - Lagos Ikorodu express way and Third Mainland Bridge, and various housing estates including 1004, FESTAC, Satellite Town, Games Village. These projects benefited the generality of Lagosians including the poor. Even the elitist Victoria Garden City and Banana Island was conceived under the military.
For your information, I lived and schooled in Ikoyi and V/I.

In the end, absolute power by one man can never be a good thing. Never ever. There can be a few instances were a country is lucky with a benevolent absolute ruler. But this is the exception rather than the rule. Also democracy has the inbuilt nature of correcting its mistakes over time. For example when OBJ was president he would routinely suspend a governor in a state where he declared a state of emergency. That can no longer happen. He would routinely impeach governors with a tiny minority of the state assembly. That can no longer happen.

I agree that absolute power depends on the benevolence of the dictator in power , but I disagree that absolute power by one man can never be a good thing. Infact throughout history, the highest and fastest progress was achieved under dictatorship. From Caesar's Rome to Ancient Egypt to Victorian England to modern China.
Democracy in Africa seems never to be able to correct itself but keeps on repeating the same mistakes, which are election rigging, sit tightism if civilian rulers, corruption and tyranny of the ruling elite.

Democracy has many flaws but it self corrects over time and is the best option in the long run.

Democracy is not even an absolute term but relative. The US is not a true democracy in the true sense of the word. The electoral college system does not necessarily depend on the votes of the electorate, but on electors sent by the states and approved by Congress. This anomaly was what Trump tried to exploit by trying to send an alternative set of electors not reflected by the actual votes. If the vice president and Congress had accepted the alternative electors, the votes would not have mattered and trump would have been sworn in as president.

Also the British system cannot be said to a full democracy. The monarch is the Head of state. The prime minister and his cabinet serve and pledge allegiance to the king.

Exactly! China would never have made such progress so fast under democracy. The problem is decision making under democracy is very slow (more bureaucracy), projects more expensive and time consuming(more interests to satisfy) and more corruption involved.

So you see why Africa is still confused whether we want democracy or dictatorship. Democracy offers more personal and group liberties (but only for the dominant groups, dominant tribes, dominant religion, elites), while dictatorship offers better economic stability and infrastructure for the poor. As bad as Russia is in terms of freedom and liberty, the poor enjoys more economic stability than even the US.

My time on this forum has been enlightening to say the least. When I'm in Nigeria, I have to admit I'm cocooned around a certain type of people with more Western ties, so I don't get some of this perspective. But You are right. Russia is doing an amazing job at propagandizing in Nigeria and Africa. And parts of the continent are struggling so much that they are now looking for alternatives. I've heard people even saying that military dictatorship is better than democracy. I understand the West may not be the full answer. But I am discouraged to hear people prefer being ruled than ruling themselves. I'm disappointed at what is going on in Africa. I pray Nigeria doesn't go in that direction.

I understand your surprise that people in Africa are beginning to question this democrazy bestowed upon us by the West. Truth be told military has its benefits even though it has numerous disadvantages. I have lived under both and I can tell you that in terms of national cohesion and unity, the military is way better than civilians. I schooled in Sokoto under military rule, and I can tell you it was a wonderful experience. No sharia or any such nonsense. The military would would never have allowed such. There had been many Christian administrators/governors in the core North, and no one raises an eye brow. There had been Igbo governors in Lagos, and it was not an issue at all. But under civilian administration a person of igbo mother but Yoruba father is not considered indigene enough to be governor.
Civilian administrations in Africa tend to use ethnic, religious and tribal fault lines as a political strategy and so tend to threaten to tear the country apart. Militancy, Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen, Biafra, oduduwa, etc all tend to come up under civilian administrations. Military governments tend to nip such insurgency in the bud before it even takes root. Remember General Sisi took over in Egypt to stop islamisation of Egypt by Morsi.

Another positives about military administration is that they tend to be more effective in building infrastructures. If you compare infrastructures built by military to those built by civilians, you will agree that military actually build infrastructures - roads, bridges, airports, etc., better, faster and more cost effective. Compare the Lagos International Airport built by Obasanjo/Murtala and Abuja Airport built by subsequent civilian administrations since 1999. They are world apart. The military built 4 refineries, the civilians have not been able to build one. Same for major express roads and bridges.

You cannot compare the elections under military in 1979 with the one conducted in 1983 by the Shagari administration. In 1979 the issue was not rigging buy if NPN met the constitutional requirement of 12 2/3 of states of the federation. The supreme court gave a controversial ruling to install the Shagari government. The 1983 elections was extremely rigged and flawed. Remember Ondo state almost experienced another "wet tie" before Omoboriowo was removed and Ajasin rightfully installed.

Now you want that same Military that wrote the constitution we are using today, to remove an elected government because Peter Gringory Obi lost the election?

It's not about Tinubu or Obi, it's about having credible elections. The last elections was anything but credible, even in Obi's strongholds. Rivers State was a very glaring example.
Military always use flawed elections or political manipulations by the incumbent government to remain in power as excuse for coups.

I disagree with you. A war will be very complex and protracted. The Malian soldiers are battle hardened, they have been fighting for over 3 decades. They were involved with the Libyan war even before Gaddafi's demise. Wagner forces have heavy presence in Mali, then there are Islamic State and other terrorist group spread over the whole region. Our soldiers are not even trained, experienced or equipped in desert warfare.

Nigeria is not the only nationleading this campaign, we have ECOWAS, AU, US, France etc all in support and mobilizing to achieve the aim of neutralizing military rule in Niger. However, with Mali and Burkina Faso entry, it's a welcome development to demonstrate once again that no military coup will be allowed in Africa.

I agree with you. We must find a way of removing (or rather negotiating) these military regimes from power without breaking the China shop. I do not not want West Africa to the the next theatre in proxy war between Russia, China and the West.

Having said that, we also need a way to curtail the excesses of our civilian governments, particularly in terms of election manipulations and corruption.

I lived under military governments and I can tell you that military governments achieved more in terms of infrastructure, national cohesion and economic discipline than civilian administrations. The main problem with military regimes were human rights abuses, political instability due to lack of adequate means of succession of power and dictatorship as there was no means to control the head of state outside a coup. The irony is that military governments obeyed court orders than civilian governments.
