Jimmy231:
Don't you know its only Africa mama trow something at son?
Lol... my "African mum" wasn't as dramatic but yeah, I get the point. I personally don't call my parent "African mom". Maybe cause the expression is more popular now than when I was a teen. Youngsters use it to emphasize the peculiarities of African mothers and it's funny until those peculiarities border on backwardness.

Children raised abroad refer to their parents that way. Eg they are American with African parents
Well, I know and I'm one of those but I don't call my parent "African mom". Maybe cause the expression is more popular now than when I was a teen. Youngsters use it to emphasize the peculiarities of African mothers and it's funny until those peculiarities border on backwardness.
FamilyRe: Son Pranks His Mother, Tells Her That Their TV Is Touchscreen by WoundedLamb: 4:11pm On Nov 30, 2020
Haha... grin grin grin These children... What's with "my AFRICAN mom"? Why not just say "I told my mom"? Or does the fact that she's African make the joke funnier?
RomanceRe: Question For The Straight Guys. by WoundedLamb: 4:35am On Nov 30, 2020
tartar9:
"Why do half of you threaten violence? Haba!! Can't you just say no? Or try to let them down easy?"
I don't usually respond to emotionally filled comments deprived of decorum and I'm probably going to regret responding to this one. But if you had taken your time to read my post carefully, you'd have realized I wasn't supporting unnecessary agitation on the side of a straight guy being hit on by a gay guy. I only pointed out the loopholes in OP's argument while putting things to perspective for a more logical discussion. Like Palehair rightly said, lesbians get hit on by straight guys too. That's probably a far more tactful approach to the argument than trying to compare the relationship between two heterosexuals and that between a straight person and a gay person. Such a weak argument could easily be deconstructed by anyone with a fairly good head on his shoulders and that would be a pity cause even though her argument might be somewhat fallacious, she still has a great point we all could help her fleshen out and make less prone to attacks from people with contrary opinions.
RomanceRe: Question For The Straight Guys. by WoundedLamb: 4:17am On Nov 30, 2020
Palehair:
You are so right. The comparison is off but she was right about one thing, if someone of a different sexual orientation approaches you, just say NO, you can only take different measures when it becomes persistent because then it becomes borderline harassment. I have a beautiful lesbian friend who gets hit on by straight guys a lot, she just tells them she's not interested due to the state of homosexuality in Nigeria but when they become persistent, she will lash out and tell them the truth.
True but I guess it's all about societal norms and the majority factor. I mean, in an ideal situation and provided the approach isn't creepy, your assertion would definitely be the right thing to do. But that's theory cause this is Nigeria where there's zero knowledge of sexual orientations and gay rights are non existent. The only form of sexuality known is heterosexuality and everyone is considered straight until proven otherwise. So asides from the inexplicable criminalization of homosexuality in Nigeria, the majority factor also plays a role in further pushing the situation in the country away from an ideal one. The condition for making a move is tweaked to favour the majority: it is normal for a guy to approach a girl unless she's not straight and abnormal for a guy to approach a guy unless they're both gay (still a crime). So for the gay guys, you have to consider if the second party is gay first before making a move but for the straight guy, you move first and only back off if the second party happens to be gay. It's like placing the "while" statement before or after an algorithmic loop in a formal argument.

Unfair but welcome to Nigeria, you got to do what you got to do to stay alive. Now, it's not like this majority factor doesn't apply in gay friendly countries but it's not as pronounced cause everyone's rights are well protected.

Sincerely NL has great since the first time i entered as a guest. So i decided to join in.

Romance section is one of the best that's y i posted here

As for making a name for myself
Be a monumental NL member. Making waves u know?
Just going with a clean slate
I see. Awesome, really.

Well, I understand you're fresh out of the oven and full of zeal and ambitions but I must warn you, the sharks here aren't as gentle as you might have believed seeing them from the other side of the aquarium glass. There's no such thing as a clean slate onhere, dear friend. You'd be lucky to still have a slate at all after the first couple of weeks. I suggest you work with your personal convictions, your conscience, your instincts. Follow your heart without caring much on which side of the divide it leads you. And most importantly, be open minded. What you call a dirty slate might just be a brown one. Now, wouldn't a brown slate be unique enough to help you make your name, Mr. Age Ken?

You're welcome once again, sir.

So I'd jump straight to my next question; please, how do you intend to make a name for yourself, sir?

RomanceRe: Question For The Straight Guys. by WoundedLamb: 9:18pm On Nov 29, 2020
As much as I'd always advocate for a world free of discrimination, I am not for gay people hitting on someone who has made it clear they aren't gay. The comparison OP is trying to make is, to me, hilarious cause we are talking about sexuality here and not just some desire, personal preference or habit that can be turned on and off. Sexuality is inherent and you don't just get people to "change their mind" by persevering. Continously hitting on someone whose sexuality doesn't agree with yours is like trying to force a black man to stay in the sun with white people for tanning. It's illogical and easily borders on sexual harrassment.

A straight guy's relationship with a woman can only be compared with a gay guy's relationship with a fellow gay guy. Trying to compare the way straight guys relate with women with the way a gay guy would relate with a straight guy will only give an erroneous output cause both cases are not of the same super class and shouldn't be placed side by side in the same array.

Sorry sir, don't take it personally. You'd agree with me a lot of things are happening out there so beseeching everyone to be careful is never a bad idea. In as much as you could be legit, the opposite is also a possibility.
PoliticsRe: What Do I Do With This Money ? by WoundedLamb:
Guys, be careful. You all are in the same Nigeria. How many people out there got more than half a million as palliative? I'm not the saying the OP is a scammer but please, friends, be careful. The account was created a few minutes ago just for this. The title "what do I do with all this money" is already suspicious enough. A word is enough for the wise.

I understand how you feel but most times those stories are fictions, created to stir and capture people's attention...
NB: I said "most" not "All"...

I also know that some people (not necessarily Nigerians) have the qualities of meddling.
Sö, just to correct your impression of those residing in Nigeria,
people differ including Nigeria , you can see different types of people from different backgrounds and different reasoning faculty.

I guess the stereotype should be corrected.
Actually, I'm not profiling Nigerians. My parents are from there and, therefore, I've got relatives there. I personally hate it when white people try to profile blacks. The reason is exactly what you've stated, people are very different. Nigeria is huge and apparently, everyone can't be a gossip like the OP. But then again, you'd also agree with me there's such thing as societal norms. Where I live, people hardly even know who stays next door, what he or she does or what they're up to. Provided you aren't disturbing the neighborhood, you might as well have three heads, no one cares. But in Nigeria, people are generally expected to be acquainted with others around them. People even discuss politics or football with strangers in public places. And honestly, that's beautiful. But then, it easily gets overstretched and the downside of this is that one's life becomes a topic of discussion for others and many people believe it's their right to call you out when you are doing something they consider wrong by their own standards. This causes a lot of a tension and at the end of the day, the whole camaraderie becomes superficial cause everyone has something against everyone. I don't know really but the lifestyle could be very intrusive for someone who isn't used to it.
Science/TechnologyRe: Peregrine Falcon From Finland Killed In Delta State (Photos) by WoundedLamb: 8:28pm On Nov 27, 2020
Buzx:
That's quite interesting to know @the bolded. Never knew they had a particular destination. Sad it had to die this way. Some years back, I caught a falcon just like this; I found it unable to fly and took it. It's a very predatory bird and hurts like a wolf. I was amazed at the way it kills rats. I had to let it go because I couldn't take of it. Lol, @animal investigators. grin anyways, cheers.
Yeah, they actually follow the weather/vegetation and since the climate is fairly constant, regions around the world have the same weather/vegetation at the same period each year thus prompting the birds to also have a unique migration pattern each year.

You're right, predatory birds are such amazing creatures! Their hunting skills are astonishing and their senses have advanced to either compliment one another or the environment. Those with poor sight have extraordinary hearing abilities, those that fly at night can slide through the air with no sound at all, etc. Glad you thoughtfully let go the one you caught when you realised you couldn't take care if it. Being a falconer is a whole lot and requires specialized skills. I've kept almost all sorts of pets but never a predatory bird.
Science/TechnologyRe: Peregrine Falcon From Finland Killed In Delta State (Photos) by WoundedLamb: 4:31pm On Nov 27, 2020
Buzx:
Lol, maybe/may not. No one knows for sure. But I'm sure the bird didn't wake one morning and say, "This year, I'm going to take a direct trip to Nigeria." It must have stopped at different countries, checked out some tourist location; go for sightseeing before continuing it's journey. grin
Yup, I agree with you on that. But then again, most migratory birds have a particular destination (or set of destinations) they go once a year for a different climate. They do it annually that it becomes direct trip over time. For example, the geese where I stay go south of the US every year. However, even though this falcon is a migratory bird (which naturally covers 15,500 miles per year), it obviously dosen't make an annual round trip to Nigeria seeing that it was held in captivity at a museum. So this one seems to have had a terrible heartbreak and decided to go on a death trip.

See us turning into animal investigators grin
Science/TechnologyRe: Peregrine Falcon From Finland Killed In Delta State (Photos) by WoundedLamb: 4:07pm On Nov 27, 2020
Buzx:
Museum Helsinki, Finland. And flew all the way down to Nigeria. Must have taken days.
Well, maybe/maybe not. Such a flight could be in a straight line and therefore would assume the shortest distant between two points just like air planes. An air plane which goes on the average horizontal speed of 575mph takes about 7 hr (or 10 assuming there's a 3 hour stop over) so this falcon which could fly almost half as fast would take about 14 hours (without rest) and even with a 6 hours rest, it could still make it in less than a day. But that's assuming it went straight from Finland to Nigeria without touring around first or without flirting for too long at a stopover. Lol.

I stay in North America and yet live vicariously in Nigeria through Nairalanders and I can see how peeps are up other people's businesses in Nigeria. But does it really matter where I am? Or do you think not minding one's business in such a situation is not ideal? What's the point of coming online to announce his neighbour had sex? Is that how men behave in Nigeria? Let's even assume he is so petty or likes small talks a lot, must it be online? Doesn't he have like minded friends to do his gossip business with? Maybe I'm missing the point but I honestly don't understand his motivation.

The things I read on here. So you're sharing this information here for what? You guys go around calling out women everyday on Nairaland yet you behave like teens. Is this really how life is in Nigeria? Two adults are suspected to have had sex and the OP ran to Nairaland to create a thread about it. Why are Africans so into other people's businesses like this? I can't even imagine how some of you reason.
