VickyRotex:Lol... ma, what are you are you doing on Nairaland that you're hiding like this? ![]() Yeah... You are absolutely right! I wasn't thinking about server-side location queries based on IP address. That's dependent on pre-stored data in the DB and does not really offer much when location is a big deal cause, like you said, the IP's may also be shared across a region and the database itself isn't really as immutable as we'd like it to be. I was rather focused on HTML geolocation API which does not rely on IP network databases for determining location though it would first ask for browser permission (such a polite technology). I still doubt Seun is collecting IP details. His site was never designed to be international (where location tracking would have played a great role). That's about that. Regarding the input to the ANN you're designing for Seun, I was suggesting location cause I was thinking of a probabilistic neural networks (PNN) as against a multi layered perceptron (cause even if the output of a multilayered perceptron is between 1 and 0 based on the activation function adopted, it would still be risky to interpret that as 'probability'..... right?). I believe if these guys have been connecting from China (or any other specific region for that matter) and such data dimension is added to the input, the node will be adequately weighted after series of back propagations in the PNN and the single output neuron will produce values ranging from zero to one. This values can then be interpreted as probabilistic values instead a hard classification. This way, threads from a region that has produced several spam threads in the past will slightly increase the probability over time. The probabilistic values can then be passed on to a conventional code block with variable tolerance threshold determined by Seun himself and the code block makes the final decision. This approsch comes with the PNN overheads like speed and memory requirements for the mandatory pattern and summation layer processing but it kinda allows him to increase or decrease the strictness of the system within a given period by altering the threshold (OK.... forgive my poor design ). But then again, these guys would be changing their location everyday using VPN so all that would be far more theoretical than practical. Really, technology is technology's problem. Lol. Whichever way, ML will still reduce this menace to the barest minimum if not completely (we can sacrifice a few genuin posts for that, right?). You've said yourself that NL is the most unsophisticated successful websites out there, why not lend a hand? You can't sit back and watch us drown when you have a solution! I will create a thread calling on other NL members to plead with you! |
I don't know why we usually say "fear women" when men's masculine strength combined with their emotions makes for a more dreadful entity. Poor couple didn't know they were raising a monster. |
QuillanHardy:I go to the park to feed geese. Lol |
BBBmall25:Can you imagine how you people in Nigeria reason. When a man cheats, we start looking for reasons for him. When a woman cheats, these hoes are not loyal. You guys don't know the longterm effects of mysogyny. |
See what societal pressure can lead too. People are now afraid of being themselves and living their lives just so that they won't be labeled. They now come online to seek manuals on how to exist. Treating your partners based on what some boys tell you online is not any different from chasing away your mum cause your pastor says she's a witch. Both cases simply show you've lost the ability to think for yourself primarily due to the fear of being a social misfit. |
Peaceful separation based on mutual consent. That's the only reason the guy would be buying her a ride. Wonder what those simpi, alpha, beta kids will say. Lol |
You have created 76 threads on Nairaland and not even one makes sense. Time to give up... |
Fear men! |
We were already celebrating when we heard they unfollowed each other online. Now we can all see they are still very much together, let's concentrate on the pet name he called her as if it's a new thing for one to call their partner "my prince" or "my princess" or even "my baby". Anything to diss them. We will not let their happiness deprive us of the joy of believing their marriage is a mess! Never! |

Lol... Is he a popular MC in Nigeria? I don't really like it when some men look elsewhere when someone is prostrating to them. That's a pompous thing to do. Having one hand in your pocket while blessing a fellow is another. |
A jealous man coupled with the masculine energy can be worse than a jealous woman. Fear men! |
spydera:Rendering those guys jobless will only increase crime cause they'd explicitly move to the other side of the law. |
VickyRotex:Voilà... false positive can only be reduced. Training can be done with the spam threads already created on NL so far (though the small size of the sample (data rows) can easily lead to overfitting if used continuously ). I'm only advocating for more features (data columns such as the logs mentioned above) just to bring up up dimensions a little bit without invoking the curse of dimensionality. I know how we feel when these apps take more info than we think is required but this one would be for a good course. I don't think Nairaland take geolocation details, your browser would have detected that. Unlike major forums out there, Nairaland doesn't really streamline user experience to reflect their location. The argument would be that it doesn't need that seeing that it doesn't make location based suggestions. But then again, some of us out here sometimes get confused with the time display. Like I said, Seun needs your help regarding these Chinese guys. Nairaland needs you, Madam Vicky. Please, help us! This forum belongs to all of us and not only Seun. Please! Where you on Nairaland during the dark age (around 2014/15 when the site collapsed for days and everyone had to go to other social networks to ask questions)? Do you want that to happen again? |
VickyRotex:Hhmm... great! Our leader is very much on top of this! But are you suggesting training the system with live data? I think the Chinese would have finished building their empire before that yields any positive result! To really combat these guys using ML, Seun will need a pre-trained model with the weights stored in the DB. In other words, he needs to have a collection of already classified texts (spam and genuin) and pass them through the neural network till the optimal weights per node is calculated. He can then store this weights in the DB so that the system can use this to detect spam posts. Apart from the text itself, I think training with log details like users country (which will eventually be collected using HTML3 geolocation API on the live server), session time, etc. will help ensure reliability. But like I said, there'll still a be a very few genuine post that will fall through the cracks. Yes, Seun might be working on this already but you can also reach out to him to make suggestions or even help out if possible ![]() |
accounts2boku:It's excessive. Anyone that logs in late at night (or those that stay abroad) can testify to the fact that these guys completely take up the forum at night. I think the timing is deliberate cause the aim is not to engage people or even get audience now. The aim is to feed the internet with enough false information to influence future search results. |
flamingREED:I think they are more interested in feeding the internet with their version so as to influence future search results. |
VickyRotex:ML is a good suggestion and it will be relatively easy for Seun to implement cause there are already known networks that can handle such cases and Nairaland runs on Python (as I learned) so he'll only need to install the Anaconda framework to kick off. However, he will need to feed the ML network with more data than Nairaland presently collects if he really wants detect these guys. Again, it will still be somewhere tricky cause even with the best binary classification algorithms, genuine posts can still easily be classified as spam. |
Why are people cursing this guy? I'm not a big fan of his but I don't think it's right for us to forcefully make a messiah out of him. He's a citizen of Nigeria as much as everyone else. He's a celebrity as much any other celebrity out there. He's not the first to do a song about bad leadership. And he never claimed to be an activist. Dude is just a musician. He's already using his channel to contribute his quota. He doesn't owe anyone anything. You guys should free him. |
sammysmiles:I've seen a couple of his shows where Africans were invited and he either makes jokes about the accent or ask questions shouldn't even be asked in this century. I know he's trying to be funny but sometimes, it gets to me. |
JOACHINpedro:No big deal. I was just being curious. |
This same boy again? This guy might put himself in trouble with the desperation. From his videos, I figured he's got mental issues but those around him shouldn't let him do all these. He's even embarrassing his fellow gay people. |
GreatResearcher:And so it is not a feat cause some other kids are not in the news? Bro, it's still a feat for these boys. It's a milestone for them cause they just increased their audience. Besides, this might be a sponsored invite which is something. These guys are using their talents just like those boys building 'planes'. Not everyone is into sciences and it is not their fault that the plane building kids didn't get invited. Opportunity does not have a sequence, it knocks at the door of whomsoever it wishes. |
I don't like Steve Harvey. His shows tend to passively mock Africa and use Africans to entertain his guests. But I'm happy for the boys! |
HigherEd:The point is that bringing up these things to the full glare of the internet now only discredits her and the writer, as well as you and I, knows this. You think her competitor does not have any report that may not be so good too? But her people are bent on pushing her forward. I don't know why Nigerians can't come together to achieve something. |
IntersexSherry:I never mentioned gay and there's absolutely nothing wrong with being gay. I was only curious as regards the indexes guys use to measure hotness in other guys especially in Africa where men pretend not to notice other men. Even your write-up suggests that these indexes were borrowed from women's judgment. @Boldened: that's a godly thing to say in a conversation with a stranger. Are you a god? |
padi94:Good morning. I think you have decided to appreciate what you like. Like I said earlier, there's no single aspect of nature that does not have exceptions, not even day and night (which is considered to be the most consistent). So the idea that everyone was born to be attracted to the opposite gender is very unnatural. Same sex attraction exists in many living things and humans aren't any different. Just like you grew up to find yourself attracted to ladies without having to learn that, that's how some people grew up to be attracted to the same gender. The most difficult phase of a gay person's life is the adolescent age when he begins to notice his sexuality and tries to suppress it. Some end up harming themselves while others commit suicide. It takes so many years before they accept themselves. I saw a thread here where one was asking how to go impotent just so he wouldn't be gay and get ridiculed by society. Nobody ordinarily wants to go through all that. It's just very difficult for Christians to accept this fact even with glaring evidences cause they cannot reconcile it with their belief. It's as if it challenges the crux of thier religious belief. But accepting or not won't stop gay people and effeminate guys from being born. It only makes them to be subject to discrimination. I don't know why I'm taking my time to type all this knowing fully well that it won't change your perception. Lol. Guess I just wanted to put it out there as my own contribution to the fight against discrimination/intolerance. If you have a minute, please see my signature for other details. |
JOACHINpedro:Lol... are you a guy? How can you tell if a guy is 'hot'? |
Mrscarter:Can we please stop justifying robbery. If he's doing 'yahoo', he is a bad person. There's no excuse for stealing other people's money. That's not hustling, that's theft. That's being wicked and insensitive to other people's pains. |
