Timiofak:Glad you left the Congress out of this. Regarding the possiblity of ban, nobody is talking about banning the whole world from coming into the US. No country can survive that. Besides the western world does not have a problem with people from fellow first world countries coming into thier country. But some countries can be banned and like I said, Trump has done that before. The Congress couldn't do anything despite the "No Ban Act" favored by the majority vote in House of Rep. It was annulled three times but got reinstated. The best the immigration lawyers could get from the court was access to people with proven strong ties to the US. I wasn't even talking about banning. I'm only against your misconception that one doesn't have anything to worry about provided he's not a criminal. Policies could be put in place to ensure even the most honest man is denied entry while another who happens to meet up with the requirements by chance is allowed in. That's why it's important for prospective incomers to pay attention to each candidate's position on that. |
Timiofak:You are banking on the Congress whose composition after the election you don't know yet? Even with the current composition, what could they do about Muslim ban 3.0? Immigration isn't all about not being a criminal, bro. The ruling party can always find a way to place restrictions. |
Lol. Nigerians are probably more interested in their immigration policies. |
Two mad masked men? What kind of description is that? I don't know if the term "mad" is used here to describe the fact that what they did is terrible or if they really want us to believe that those guys were/are mad people; the latter would be ridiculous. |
maynia:@bolded, the point was never that he shouldn't be insulted. I don't care if he is insulted or not, I have no business with Buhari. The point is that it is very ridiculous to pretend you don't see the insult. That's not being smart. Like I said earlier, describing is different from calling. He is an old man but "Old man" is a description and not a name you call someone. You don't call people by their description as if it is a title. Suddenly, you guys are going illogical because Buhari is involved. If you think it's OK to call your father "old man". Then, it's fine. There's nothing more I can really say. We don't have the same upbringing obviously. |
maynia: maynia:I never slightly suggested that the insult has more weight than the killings. My original post (see the part in bold) only said we shouldn't suddenly pretend like calling an elderly person "old man" is not insulting. Our position should be that the message in the post should have more priority that the insult perceived. But saying we don't even see the insult at all when it's clearly there would only make mockery of our intelligence. WoundedLamb: |
maynia:Dude, do not isolate the words just to sell an unsellable logic. Context matters as much the words themselves. Do you call your father "old man"? Are we going to pretend like we don't know it's wrong to even call an elder "woman" even when she's clearly a woman? Why are you guys bending logic when it's not necessary? Since we are on a pretense mode, let me break it down to you. Buhari is an old man. Expressions like "old man", "woman", etc are used to describe people and not to call people ( as a nomenclature/appellation). When a young person calls his older "old man" as an appellation, it is insulting. You know this. Everyone knows. Even I who barely know anything about Africa know this. Why are we even having this discussion? |
maynia:That's a better point. We could say she's focusing on the wrong thing or that she once called the man the same thing. But pretending like we don't know calling your elder "old man" is insulting would be very low of us. |
sinkhole:I think you misunderstood me. My argument wasn't really about the authenticity of the report or it's reliability. I was only saying that the inference you made in your post I quoted was wrong. You deducted that those with the highest IQ seem to be the poorest and I'm saying that based on the report (regardless of how reliable it is), the reverse is actually the case cause most countries in the list are Africa's richest. |
paul100:No really. Most cosmetic surgeries aren't grossly different from any other surgery and you don't always have to renew anything. People might go back after they have aged more to do further lifting against stretch marks but that's their choice. Though it's called cosmetic surgery, many people (even in Nigeria) use the same procedure to cover up accident scars and no one ever talks about it. And they don't have to ever go back to renew anything. As for implants, some are replaced after 10 years depending on different factors. |
NNU0000:Somewhere down there... Human Capital Development Index (HCDI) groups African countries into three: the high, the medium and the low. Not only is Nigeria not in the first 10, it is not even in the medium list. It's in the low list. However, HCDI is just one of the tools for measuring development (in terms of the skills and productivity of the populace) and Nigerian ranks low cause of the very high population of which the majority aren't highly skilled. Nigeria still has the highest GDP though GDP (even per capita) is heavily flawed as a tool for measuring economic development. |
OP, it's not about the profession. Lol. |
sinkhole:Seychelles is Africa's most developed country (HCDI). Mauritius, Morocco, Algeria Egypt and Tunisia are also in the first 10. So generally speaking, it's more like those with high IQ are the more developed ones. |
Acjohn:Lmao... this god of yours must be so perverted though ![]() |
Lol... The logic that a 77 year old is not young and therefore shouldn't have a problem being called "old man" is very funny cause deep down everyone, we all know it's an insulting utterance. How many of you call your parents or anyone you respect "old man" in a serious conversation? It's OK to support wizkid's insult to the president cause he is not leading y'all right but you don't have to pretend like you didn't see the insult. That's not necessary. Logic shouldn't be twisted based on sentiments. #SayNoToBadLeadership |
chatinent:Don't let an architect see this comment. Mathematics is science and not technology. Just like every other scientific theory or mathematical theorem, pythagoras provides the logic behind many structures you see around you. Technology is the application of science and geometry is not any different. What you see is the finished work but only those involved at the development phase know the principles applied. Geometry is applied in architecture. Given two straight lines, the pythagorean theorem allows you to calculate the length of the diagonal connecting them. This basic application can be seen in virtually every architectural work out there. Regarding the OP, I really wonder why Africans are so rich in conspiracy theories even when it's not logical. They make you study an occult theorem in school, to what end? What have they gained for making you study their theory? Science (including Mathematics) is a product of philosophy and technology is a product of science. So screaming that pythagoras is deep rooted in philosophy is like telling us that Nigerians are blacks. As an African man, if you don't understand something, study it or leave it to face your own field. You guys don't always have to wind stories around things you don't understand. |
Dreadlocks? Hhmm... seems these ones have not heard of SARS! ![]() |
Lol... here, cosmetic surgery is common for both men and women. It's called names like nose work, face lift, hair restoration, etc. You might never notice if you didn't know the person before. And really, apart from the few extensive ones, it's not a big deal. It's just like using an eye pencil or any other markup, just that it's permanent. |
JIMMY1393:Lol @purposely misspelt. ![]() |
Nice judgment. There's no justification for remaining in an abusive relationship as a man or a woman. People who hit their partners cause they are stronger aren't worth living with. They should be left to leave alone. Your partner should see you as a source of succor and not terror. I encourage anyone being abused to speak out regardless of your gender. Your health and peace of mind should always come first. |
chillychill:My interactions with Nigerians are mostly here on Nairaland and so far, it has been mixed feelings for me. However, that's enough to fully get your point. |
Yes, you can use external webcams with zoom. You can even use normal cameras with zoom though this would require more path settings. As for the pricing, I can't help with that as I'm not in Nigeria. Let's wait for those who can. |
CanineOfJackal:Ok |
SmartProf:Actually they do. ECOWAS sanctions, when fully implemented, would crush a country like Mali. And Malians know this too, that's why they reached a truce. |
The Nigerian police force needs training. In fact, they don't have the slightest idea what their job entails. I strongly believe thier bosses don't also know cause the fact that this behavior isn't specific to any part of the country suggests that it stems from an indoctrination ingrained in their formation process. Police officers out here spend a good deal of thier day helping people whose cars broke down, helping the elderly cross major roads, monitoring traffic light violations through their gadgets, using thier apps to check out plat numbers' activity history, etc. while those in Nigeria are brutalizing civilians. I know Nigerians can be very stubborn and somewhat 'untamed' sometimes but a good and well thought out Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) should be able to handle that. Harassing someone for mistakenly splashing water on you just cause you can is simply anachronistic. |
OyinO:Lol... Nairaland kids are very easy to detect even on a faceless forum like this. Someone that plans to leave his fellow man that hurt him to go after defenceless women and children is calling somebody else a coward. ![]() Ok... you win. |
chillychill:Ha! I'm not defending them. Why would I defend a group that has lost focus? Why would I defend anyone that sheds innocent blood? I personally think they should be reformed to stick to their original task. I only urge Nigerians to be logical in their demands, complaints and reactions so that they don't appear as insatiable babies to the world and so that they don't end up being more dangerous than the SARS guys themselves, and thereby making the leaders seem just. To explain, I woke up this morning to read people calling me names for kicking against the suggestion of killing the wives and children of the SARS officers. They called me a coward. People that plan to leave their fellow men that hurt them to kill innocent and defenseless women and children are the ones calling me coward, lol. Anyway, such antediluvian behaviours are what I kick against. I don't and won't defend SARS' brutality just like I don't and won't defend scammers too. |
You keep posting the same thing using different accounts. How does that make much difference? |
nairanaira12:I completely disagree with you on this. Killing innocent and defenseless women and children makes you a terrorist. However, I'm inclined to believe that you won't agree with me either. So I'd just drop it here. |
nairanaira12:Yeah but killing defenceless women and children isn't the way forward. |
chillychill:Oh... I think I remember. No, I didn't say they wouldn't do anything again. I only said we shouldn't complain when the ban was given until it's violated. I'm still positive they'll be checked soon seeing all the attention they've been getting recently. Sorry, I'm not so good at remembering Nairaland names. ![]() |
