Crime › Re: Commercial Bus Robbers Who Sedate & Rob Victims In Lagos by XAUBulls: 10:14am On Dec 22, 2023 |
coogar: Four months after the murder of a post-graduate student of Nassarawa State University, Cynthia Osokogu by four men, five suspects have been arrested in Lagos for drugging and robbing commercial bus passengers at various points in the metropolis.
https://vml1.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/suspects.jpg?9d7bd4
The suspects, Chibuike Mbakwe, Tochukwu Eze, Ifeanyi Okeke, Chidi Eze and Okechukwu Mbakwe are said to be members of a syndicate that specialises in robbing unsuspecting passengers in commercial buses by offering them sachet water laced with sedatives.
Last Tuesday, Chibuike, Eze and Okeke boarded a commercial bus in company with four others in the Ikeja area and headed for Yaba. Unknown to them, it was in the same bus that they robbed a sedated passenger the previous week.
Also, they were unaware that the driver of the vehicle had reported the incident to the Sabo Police Division and he had been advised to watch out for a future occurrence. Little did this driver know that fate would bring the same group of robbers into his bus again.
CRIME DIGEST gathered that the leader of the gang, a 30-year-old suspect known simply as Chioma, is currently on the run. Usually, his method is well rehearsed. He would sit close to his victim and beckon on another member of the gang who pretends to hawk sachet water by the roadside.
Chioma would then purchase a sachet of water with N20 and ask for a balance of N10. When the hawker hesitates, Chioma would buy another sachet and offer it to his victim on the pretext of not wanting to forfeit the balance. Naturally unaware that it had been tampered with, the victim would accept the offer and drink the water. Everything happens within a few minutes.
As expected, after about 10 minutes or so, the victim becomes drowsy and eventually falls asleep. Everything of value in the possession of the victim is then stolen by Chioma who later alights from the bus before its final destination. In an interview with CRIME DIGEST, the suspects said the effects of the sedatives usually wore off after three hours.
Describing how he got involved with the gang, Chibuike said, The leader of our group is Chioma. I met him in Alaba market in 2011. At the time, I was trading in phone accessories. After we became friends, he told me how he was able to rob people by sedating them. Eventually he convinced me to abandon my trade and join his gang.
Chioma always picked his victims. I dont know how he chooses them. All I did with the rest members of the gang was to gang around the bus park with him and board the same bus with him. This will enable the bus to fill up faster and our presence close to Chioma also provides cover for his activities.
I have no idea how the sachet water is laced with sedatives. A full bag, except one sachet of water is usually laced with sedatives and packaged before it is brought to the park. Unfortunately, he was unable to identify what substance was mixed with the pure water.
Okeke was identified as the hawker in the gang. Only last year, he had returned to Lagos from his hometown in Anambra State. He said, After I returned to Lagos, I worked with some drivers who smuggled rice and other items from the Seme border into Lagos as a bus conductor. On our way back to Seme, we would pick up passengers. About a month ago, Chioma and his gang boarded the vehicle conveying me.
While we were on our way to Seme, I noticed Chioma carefully searching his victims pockets and stealing their money. I was surprised and wanted to raise the alarm, but he silently pleaded with me not to talk. He took my phone number and promised to settle me.
When we met a few days later, he gave me N500 and persuaded me to join his gang. He said it was a lucrative venture. I believed him and abandoned my job. Yet, all I got in the month I worked with him was N8,000 and two Visa brand cell phones. I was making far less than what I earned while on the Seme route. I believe Chioma was cheating me.
Before every outing, Chioma would meet me somewhere and give me a bag of sedated pure water to carry. I would then accompany the group to the motor park of their choice and hang around any bus they board until Chioma calls on me, Okeke said.
However, Chidi denied his involvement with the group. I admit that I was once involved in this trade. But since I returned from Kirikiri prison a few months ago, I have gone back to selling phone accessories. I dont play this trick anymore. It was on Tuesday evening that I learned from Okechukwu through a phone call that my brother had been arrested by the police, but I didnt bother because I had earlier warned Tochukwu of the consequences of his actions.
I was surprised when in the early hours of Wednesday morning; some SARS operatives came into my compound with Tochukwu and Chibuike. They had come to arrest me.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Umaru Manko, confirmed the arrests, adding that the gang was apprehended by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ikeja. He said, They were about seven in number at the time and had boarded a bus which unknown to them, they had boarded the week before.
The driver was already on the lookout for them, but it was the conductor who noticed that the same group of persons had boarded the bus before. When he raised the alarm, other members of the NURTW present at the scene tried to round them up. The prime suspect, Chioma, fled with three others. Efforts are being made to track them down.
Although Chidi and Okechukwu were not present at the scene, they have been identified as members of another group involved in the same crime. When Chibuike came to stay with his elder brother, Okechukwu admitted taking Chibuike along for a bus ride to CMS with another colleague, Goddy.
Goddy had tutored Okechuwku in the trade at Cotonou where he formerly resided. Chibuike watched as his brother and Goddy practiced their art on their unsuspecting victim and coming away with a laptop and phone.
Both Chidi and Okechukwu have been previously arrested, tried and remanded in prison for this same offence. While Chidi had served time at Kirikiri prison, Okechukwu served time at Ibarra prison. All suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of our investigation.

OboloMAN: BRIEF HISTORY.
The OBOLO (Andoni ) people are a distinct tribe Living in the Niger Delta region of Rivers (Andoni L.G.A) & Akwa Ibom State (Eastern Obolo & Ibeno L.G.As)
Prior to the British Colonial Era the Obolo's were among the first to come in contact with the Europeans and traded mainly with the Portuguese.
They Worshipped a national diety (god) called Yok-Obolo , Who is the founder /Spiritual head of the Obolo people elevated to a god upon death.
Christianity was already Accepted in Obolo land long before 1699 ( As recorded when John Barbot visited Dony Town (Andoni) in 1699, he observed that the King of Dony Town accepted Christianity and Priests were regularly sent in from Sao Tome and Brazil, to minister to him, The king of Dony town also spoke Portuguese )
Despite Christainity The Yok-Obolo was still feared among neighbouring tribes (Bonny, Opobo, Ibibio/Efiks, Ogonis e.t.c ) Which made them to spread terrifying news about the Obolo people to the British Colonial masters.
In 1869 King Jaja had to enter an oath of Allegiance with the Yok-Obolo before he was allowed to establish his new town opobo (1970) in the Andoni territory .This was against the wish of Bishop Ajayi Crowther who lamented that King Jaja was entering the “Heart of Darkness” when he came to Obolo (Andoni) is 1869 for a treaty with the Obolos
When the ugly stories against the Obolo (Andoni) were so much the British Colonial Authorities decided to send a Punitive Expedition against them in 1904, Which was led by Captain A.A Whitehouse with the sole aim of destroying Obolo ( Andoni) as a political entity and reducing there influence among neighbouring tribes in the Niger Delta.
On arrival A.A Whitehouse and his military team went straight to Alabie Town (Agwut-Obolo), burnt and destroyed the high altar of deity of the Obolo Monarchy, (Yok-obolo) and the site of the House of Skulls with over 2,000 skulls of Obolo (Andoni) Enemies killed in wars.
The British destroyed the House of Skulls and the Shrine of Yok-Obolo in 1904, and split Andoni into six parts, each attached to one of the six Native Courts in the Niger Delta with the aim of destroying Obolo Politically.
Some of the Bronze Arts & Crafts Collected by the British from Andoni (Obolo) during this Expedition are currently on display in the British Museum. |

OboloMAN: Obolo is distinct from Ibibio , the little traces of igbo & ibibio found in obolo language came in through Igbo & Ibibio slaves who were allowed to settle in obolo after slave trade was abolished.
The core central obolo spoken within Ngo axis of Andoni L.G.A rivers state is well defined. You find majority of ibibio influence in the one spoken in Ibeno axis of akwa ibom.
Obolo , ibibio , efik are never the same thing |

dainformant: A Nigerian man visited the British Museum to request that the Benin kingdom artifacts which were allegedly stolen since the 1980's, be returned. The entrepreneur and philanthropist, Ambassador Dion Osagie from Edo state - revealed that his visit to the museum on the quest of recovering the items was worth more than anything to him.
The British museum boasts the second largest collection of art from the Benin kingdom after the Ethnological Museum in Berlin.
It has been reported that the British Museum will host a summit along with other European museums to discuss the return of bronze artifacts looted in 1897 from the kingdom of Benin, now southern Nigeria. It will conduct negotiations with Nigeria and Benin about returning the items which are expected to go on permanent display in Benin City.
In the late 19th century, Britain sought to wipe out the kingdom of Benin in what became known as the “punitive expedition.” When Oba Ovonramwen, then ruler of Benin, imposed customs duties on goods leaving the territory, Britain sent 1,200 soldiers to destroy the kingdom as a form of reparations for the colonial power.
The city was set on fire and hundreds of trinkets, bronze sculptures, and valuables were stolen and later handed to the British government. Through trade and art dealership, these artifacts have mostly ended up in Germany and the United States.

oyem4u: WARRI—THE Itsekiri ethnic nationality of Warri, Delta State, has dissociated itself from the calls for creation of a Biafra Republic out of Nigeria as being drummed by some Igbo interest groups in the South-East.
The Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILT, expressed the group’s concern over the Igbo agitation yesterday in a statement by its Chairman, Pa Johnson Ayomike and Secretary, Edward Ekpoko.
The body is disturbed that the proposed Biafra Republic as widely reported in the social media includes the whole of Delta State.
The statement stressed: “We recall with pains the day the defunct Biafran Army invaded Warri and Benin in the then Midwest Region on August 9, 1967.
Never again will the Itsekiri tolerate such invasion. The Itsekiri nation is committed to the unity of Nigeria and will do all it can to promote and protect it as one indivisible country.
As Major General Philip Effiong said on January 14 1970, the Republic of Biafra ceased to exist. We, the Itsekiri, wish it to be eternally so for the peace and development of our great nation.”

Crime › Re: VIDEO: NAFDAC Busts Fake Wine Factories In Aba, Shuts Down Counterfeit Markets by XAUBulls: 3:24pm On Dec 18, 2023*. Modified: 4:05pm On Dec 18, 2023 |
thisweekng: In a recent operation, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and dismantled counterfeit wine factories operating in the bustling Cemetery Market in Aba, Abia State. The decisive action was announced by Mr. Martins Iluyomade, the Director of the Southeast Zone of NAFDAC.
Iluyomade disclosed that the market has been temporarily closed to facilitate a thorough sanitization process. The move comes in the wake of a significant discovery during a raid on Monday, exposing the extensive circulation of counterfeit products, particularly fake wines and other beverages within the market.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Iluyomade stated, “Operatives of NAFDAC have arrested 10 criminals over the production of fake adulterated beverages.” The arrests underscore the agency’s commitment to curbing the production and distribution of substandard and potentially harmful products.
Furthermore, Mr. Martins Iluyomade shed light on the nefarious activities of these illicit manufacturers. Not only were they producing imitation wines and drinks, but they were also found guilty of adulterating high-quality products from reputable companies. Iluyomade explained the alarming method employed by these criminals, involving the incorporation of harmful chemicals and colorings into the beverages.
Expressing concern for public safety, Iluyomade cautioned that consumers, particularly during the festive yuletide period, may have unwittingly purchased these adulterated drinks without knowledge of their origin. This revelation underscores the need for vigilance and scrutiny when acquiring beverages, especially during peak consumption periods.
A viral video associated with the operation captures members of the NAFDAC task force in action, destroying numerous bottles of counterfeit soft drinks. The video serves as a visual testament to the agency’s dedication to eradicating fake and potentially hazardous products from the market.
The NAFDAC crackdown on fake wine factories in Aba’s Cemetery Market underscores the ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and maintain the integrity of consumable products.
https://thisweekng.com/video-nafdac-busts-fake-wine-factories-in-aba-shuts-down-counterfeit-markets/ Fake wine factories in Cemetery Market, Aba. What a name... Cemetery Market. But seriously, I still remember how a fake malt drink, stout, and ethanol outfit being operated by a bunch of criminally-minded and greedy gang of Ibo guys was discovered by NAFDAC and the Police in Ikorodu in 2018 due to community polocing. Some dead rats and reptiles were seen floating on the finished products, particularly inside the reservoirs. They were producing in open blue drums in unhygienic conditions and this is one of the reasons why there's been a spike in kidney failures from the use of harmful ingredients and coloring matter in fake drinks and drugs. It's better to get these malt, wine, and stout drinks from accredited dealers, shopping malls and department stores, instead of the open markets to avoid buying poisonous, fake products. => https://punchng.com/police-uncover-illegal-malt-factory-in-ikorodu/=> https://www.nairaland.com/4447481/brewery-where-fake-malt-stout/

thisweekng: In a chilling account, a woman shared her harrowing near-death experience at the newly-opened Giwa Gardens Water Park & Resort in Lagos, shedding light on alarming safety concerns.
The incident unfolded during a family outing at Giwa Gardens, as the lady detailed, “This morning I went to Giwa Gardens Water Park & Resort with my family to have fun, and it did not end well.” What was supposed to be a day of enjoyment turned into a nightmare due to perceived safety lapses.
Describing the perilous conditions, she expressed concern about the inadequacy of pool depths for the water park’s long slides. Her daughter’s head collided with the pool tiles after a slide, prompting a warning that went unheeded. She recounted, “My daughter hit her head when she went on it and came back to tell me I shouldn’t go.”
Despite the cautionary tale from her daughter, the woman decided to experience the slide herself. Unfortunately, her encounter with the waterpark’s slide resulted in a direct impact of her forehead on the pool tiles, causing significant injury. She compared this incident to her previous visits to water parks worldwide, noting the absence of rubber padding in Giwa Gardens’ pools.
The first aid response to the injuries further added to the distress. “The staff did not even see it as a big deal!! It took them almost 15 minutes before I saw one who took me casually to the nurse. The first aid service is wack!!! No good plaster is available!” she lamented, highlighting the inadequate medical assistance provided.
In an effort to prevent further incidents, the lady promptly informed the park’s management about the dangers posed by the slides. However, her plea for action seemed to fall on deaf ears. “I informed the management immediately that the slides should be closed, up until I left it wasn’t closed!!!” she exclaimed.
The urgency of the matter led her to call upon the relevant authorities, tagging the Lagos State Government in her social media posts. In a plea directed at both the government and potential visitors, she cautioned, “@lagosstategovt Please go to @giwagardens and do the necessary quality control check before they kill people. Go to @giwagardens at your own risk.”
This alarming incident serves as a wake-up call for both regulatory bodies and the public, emphasizing the need for stringent safety measures and quality checks at recreational facilities.
This morning I went to @giwagardens @keji_giwa with my family to have fun and it did not end well The pools are too shallow for the long slides,my daughter hit her head when she went on it and came back to tell me I shouldn’t go…I thought she was exaggerating,I went on the slide and hit my forehead head on the tiles in the pool ,I have been to at least 5 water parks in different countries, there is always a rubber laid in all the pools,my head hit the tiles directly and my lips caught into two. The first accident I had was at the river,I tumbled in the tube and the back of my head hit the tiles,I left immediately with my daughter not knowing a bigger one was coming… The staff did not even see it as a big deal!! It took them almost 15mins before I saw one who took me casually to the nurse. The first aid service is wack!!! No good plaster available! Am not here looking for attention,I am just trying to save another victim from this disaster. @lagosstategovt @lagosstategovt @lagosstategovt Please go to @giwagardens and do the necessary quality control check before they k## people. babasolution: Why can't you blacks also label Arabs SLAVES, why must you always let them call u whatever they like, majority tribe black African males are weaklings @babasolution, Why don't you lead the way by labelling the Arab Muslims as slaves since you are a Black African male? Lol. Seriously speaking though, it's against humanity to label another with derogatory names and words, and I wouldn't do that normally tbh. I just simply ignore or do NOT acknowledge the presence of that person to pass a strong message. But people must stand up to face injustice whenever it arises. I remember that the U.S.-based academic Farooq Kperogi (who himself is a Muslim from the Bariba-speaking area of Kwara State) also wrote an article condemning the idiotic behavior of Arab Muslims calling people of Black African descent "abe*d" online and offline. Many African-American Muslims had also voiced their anger over the used of that racial slur called abe*d or slave by Arab Muslims. You can Google Kperogi's article to read more about that story a few years back. Also, religion is one thing that definitely prevents Black Africans especially of Muslim backgrounds from speaking out against oppression by Arab Muslims. During the Sudanese crises in Dafur, Sudan, many Black Muslim Dafur citizens were killed and many of their women were gang raped by the government and Arab-backed supporter of APC fighters who rode on camel backs to commit these atrocities. I was shocked during that period in the 2000s because there was a DEAFENING silence from Muslims in Nigeria (which has the largest estimated Muslim population in Africa). I monitored the BBC and CNN extensively... NOT even a mass protest from the Muslim far-North of Nigeria or Niger Republic (by the Sultan or Imams and others) which both have historical ties to Sudan going back to centuries ago via back-and-forth travels. The only people who spoke out about the atrocities in Dafur were non-Muslims in Africa, Whites and the rest of the world led by the United Nations. It has become a self-induced mind-control for these people. |
