fairfora:Madam Tinubu herself sold slaves. Oba Kosoko also sold slaves and waged war to preseve slavery. Who do you think operates the badagary slave markets? Every single tribe in Nigeria bought and sold slaves. Portugues weren't parading coastline and abducting people. They bought from the middlemen who received payments in guns and gins. |
Don't compare apples and oranges. EU membership is legally binding while the AU is not. |
Jackyboy:A trial will change your mind. |
Yes, it is if you are exceptional and creative. But average lawyers can only make an average income. |
Rossonero:You and the lawyer are potential rapists. What about the expensive phones of the armed robber victims? What about the high-class car of the carjacker victim? Don't hide behind being male because you are insulting normal people. Rapists are not normal No one is blaming male folks, people(including majority males) are blaming rapists(who are actually worse than dogs) who use dressing as an excuse. SMH |
rigarmortis:You don't know that character. He has a personal lie for every story. |
“For the records, the Honourable Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON is happily married and contented with his wife. Together they are blessed with children, four (4) of whom are young women.Having a family does not stop a predator. “Under his watch, he appointed several women into various high-level positions as chairpersons of Local Government Councils, Magistrates, Judges, Heads of Parastatals, Directors, Permanent Secretaries, and Commissioners.”It could be argued that he appointed them for his personal needs. |
loneprof:He is a disgrace to himself. He represents no one but himself. |
allthingsgood:Democracy involve punishing criminals. You are probably imagining an anarchy where crime is legal. Anyone should be free to insult Buhari but not impersonate him because that is a crime. He was arrested for impersonation and not insult. |
Probably a crime of passion. Love went sour or dream shattered. The stolen money neither explains the murder nor the subsequent dismemberment. Since he had set up a repayment plan, that means other people already knew about the missing money and the PA could cover it up with just murder. |
The victims may be dead. |
Farki:If you are not Goodluck Jonathan, then don't pretend to be him even with a disclaimer. It doesn't matter whether Twitter allows it or some other country is fine with it. Impersonation is illegal based on the peculiar nature of Nigeria. It will be interesting to see how his lawyer prove that he didn't cause any "disadvantage" while impersonating Jonathan. From the news, he wasn't held, he couldn't make bail for his criminal charge. That's his and his lawyer's problem. |
seunmsg:I clearly stated that a parody account is not a defense against Cybercrime law. Nigerian law does not recognize "not GEJ". You are simply not allowed to impersonate. See, the court will decide ilthus matter eventually but I stand 100% with the young man that Jonathan is trying to harass and humiliate using his influence as a former president. It is better for the boy's case not to be decided by the court as his prospect is pretty dim. If not, he is on to a long and painful trial. I guess his lawyer understands the issue that is why he is courting public sympathy. His precarious bail condition wasn't for free speech but impersonation. The case is not between Jonathan and his impersonator as it would be in a civil case, it is between the Nigerian government and the suspect. I am totally for free speech, even the ones most people will consider taboo or dangerous. But it is foolish to impersonate a husband in order to insult his wife unless impersonation is legal in one's jurisdiction. I have seen several fake Jonathan accounts on Facebook and Twitter(they didn't even indicate parody) and most are still operating. Of course, they are impersonating but they are smart enough to not draw unnecessary attention. |
Jaqenhghar:Yes, it is impersonation and it is a criminal act. |
lexy2014:There is a difference between the position of the law and a social media policy. |
seunmsg:I don't believe you don't know the meaning of impersonation. You probably took the "free speech" position because of the individuals involved. Calling an account a "parody" only protects your social accounts from being banned by the admin. It doesn't protect you from legal consequences. Impersonation is not freedom of expression. It is a criminal act according to Nigeria's Cybercrime act. The boy is free to insult anyone he likes under his own identity. And another point, just because someone gets away with a crime doesn't mean you will. The moral of the story is not to use a criminal act to attack your victim. |
sapientia:You have no idea. There is a difference between Twitter rules and a country's law. Following Twitter rules protect your account from being deactivated, it does not protect you from actual legal consequences. The suspect has committed a crime according to Nigeria A lawyer will be laughed out of court if he made the "parody account" argument. His lawyer knows what is at stake, that is why he is using media campaigns. |
Paid protester. A lawmaker took a risk and got burnt. Her gender has nothing to do with the consequence of her action. |
The suspect is not so bright. He wanted to insult a politician's wife and decided to impersonate the husband. The lawyer, however, said Section 22(3)(c) of the Cybercrime Act places the burden on Jonathan to show that Olusola had used the Twitter account to defraud members of the public or defame his character. This lawyer's opinion is baseless, no wonder he couldn't secure his client release. Nigeria law forbids impersonation even online regardless of the purpose of the impersonation. But the bail is too high for the poor boy who only wanted some attention. His lawyer should reapply for bail adjustment. |
Damage control. You don't need a battalion to arrest just one woman. The officers didn't even attempt to arrest her, they just laid siege outside her premises. |
dangoteinlaw:Who is this poverty-stricken imbe cile? Go play with your fellow kids? |
GalPissetzky:When your client are Yahoo boys, such a comment is expected. You are just defending your business. SMH |
Slymonster:There is no human right abuse here. I suggested an arrest and not default conviction. Any family member who benefited from the proceed of crime should be charged as an accomplice and jailed. The mother and the girlfriend surely know that there is no way this undergraduate could have legally acquired his loot legally. In this case, they even directly aided his crime. Some suicide bombers used to only care about their own lives until Israel starts destroying all their family's properties and subjecting them to the judicial process. Then, a terrorist would have to think twice about the consequences of their actions not just to themselves. If a fraudster can't spend on their parents or girlfriends, the urge for fraud will be reduced. If the parents, family, friends, and girlfriends know that they will face jail time, they would be careful about associating or even supporting a fraudster. EFCC is just too soft, when they become serious, they will start putting pressure on fraudsters' families. |
The CBN has been advised to stop fighting the dollar but they refused. The Naira should be allowed to float freely as the market dictates. Let us see how low they are prepared to go. |
This is a charade. He complained to his superiors and the video got leaked. He is not to blame for the bad publicity. |
GalPissetzky:The best way to fight fraud is to arrest the fraudsters, all members of their immediate family, and girlfriends. Unfortunately, EFCC does not do it. This old thief was paraded for helping her son commit fraud and so is the girlfriend. |
NewDelhi:Perhaps you don't know the meaning of 80%. |
Ola5TP:The fake story was packaged for gullible people like you. Friendly fire isn't a new phenomenon. Well, I am not surprised. In a country where everything must be the work of an "enemy" or "village people", all idiotic stories would be believed without scrutiny. This foolish sniper wouldn't dare tell this lie in a country with thinking people. |
Fake story. |
lucasalves:There are still imported carpets in the market. Most people can't even tell carpets and rugs brands apart, they are only interested in quality and durable products. From this article, the factory's competitors are products from Asia. Those who believe in buying classy carpets(a tiny minority) will actually seek out the more expensive products from non-Asian countries because Asia products implicitly mean inferior or cheap. |
DSS should free peaceful protesters. But they should address their love for bandits due to tribal affiliations. |
fiizznation:The bold is a joke. I hope Kano's government does not think the same way because that would mean they are not even in the game, to begin with. |
