maclatunji: It is true that Solomon (AS) banned all idolatory because he was a Muslim. tongue
I often wonder why learned men like you still choose to follow the Qur'an even with its incoherency. How can Solomon be a muslim when Islam started around 600 A.D.
@topic, there was no time where all Israel practised monotheism. Although monotheism was dominant, some groups still had other gods with shrines dedicated to them. King Saul demolished many of the shrines but still visited a witch at Endor. King David also tried but couldn't probably because he was preoccupied with wars. King Solomon legitimized idolatry in the later part of his life like others have mentioned. All the kings that reigned in Jerusalem after Solomon tried to encourage the worship of Yahweh but couldn't totally rid the northern kingdom(Judah and Benjamin with Jerusalem as capital) of idolatry.
After a little research, I discovered the time at which this temple(shrine) was built was about 100yrs after the time of Prophet Elijah(875-850 B.C). It was in the time of King Uzziah- a great king indeed who did lots of constructions and development in Judah. He was known as one who walked in the way of God though he ended badly because of pride and not idolatry. Waiting for more information on this.
This is what I don't like about some Igbos on NL. You people drag everyone understand the bus and you believe the stories some of this people tell you on NL. There are many of Ikas that are not like Agbotean and their are others like him. If you went back couples of pages you would have seen it. Even their obi does not subscribe to his view and also the whole Ika weren't in Biafra war is nothing but false stories abgotean continue to tell himself. If you going to attack him, attack the dude or at least attack him and others like him, not everyone.

To address The Ika involvement in Biafra, I didn't want to address Agbotean before on it because the dude is on another world from what I can see but since you are attacking there community over it, I gotta defend them dude. The war was actually casued by his people if we follow the line of "Igbo coup", majority of the officers during the coup were Ika descendant and many of them fought for Biafra when the war started and fought till the end. Here's what's written by Emma Okocha on the subject.

"The II divisions made of mainly Ika I[g]bo] never surrendered and under Colonel Nwawo defended Nnewi the only major Biafran city that never fell until the end."
"Commander of Biafran Navy Anukwu (Agbor) is dead and his house in Boji-Boji burnt! These officers have never been paid anything…pension nothing and nobody from the East bothered.

They are not the same as Biafran officers…who agreed and declared Biafra. These people were Nigerian soldiers. Why have the state Eastern governors abandoned the Ika I[g]bo?"
http://www.kwenu.com/archive/okocha_anioma.htm

If you decide to read the entire article, I know some would, yes it is ranting and blaming SE Igbo for not caring about Western Igbos and other pointing blame factors. Please do not read too much into it. Emma Okocha is a very proud Igbo man. In his article it didn't sound like it but you should read his other articles, he even contested to join ohaneze once. I don't know what motivated the ranting but I brought it out because it addressed what I wanted to let you know.

Don't listen to Agbotean, take whatever that man tells you with a pinch of salt cause it's already salted.
Nwanna, anugom. Amaram na oburo madu ncha na futaya na udia mana obu ife n wuta na umunne na kpo umunne fa asi etu a. Dalu so.

sonya4all: Yujin,i'll kindly ask that you please check your facts before posting, who told u am in owerri,ur allusion dat ika land is just 20minutes drive, already shows how ignorant you are about the people and geography of ika nation, need i point it out to you that, ika people inhabit places in edo state? Oriomhon lga,so all that is 20mins? Why are you crying, because we seek to be called ika,not igbon or benin.. If you are reasonable enough you will respect that, but am not surprise, you and ur kins are showing off what ur tribe is known for.
Me crying? Crying over what? I'm just concerned that some people just love to hate their own people simply because other people have subconciously planted bitterness in their minds and they themselves fail to understand it. I know the extent of Ikaland and those you will like to include(some parts of Edo) in your new ethnic group but you will meet similar treatment you dished to your own people(general Igbo) then. Am I sounding sad?
Yes, Ikaland by the straight tarred road is not more than 20mins drive. I know where Ika south Lga stops(Igbodo) and Alifekede near Agbor where it starts. Igbanke is by the side
and others(in Edo) who will likewise deny you people when the time comes.
Again I say: nobody is interested in your land as they have made you believe or has any Igbo(SE) begged for free land from you? Ndigbo do not beg! Is Ikaland richer than other parts of Igboland? Some of us are trying to wipe off the ignorance that is perpetuating prejudice/sentiments and outright discrimination while some of you are making matters worst. Funny enough, some decades from now it will be those with the wherewithal that will be controlling the areas.

Kudos to you agbontaen. Your pix is very informative and your contribution laudable. Pls, I appeal you stop denigrating the general Igbo to make a point. How big is Ikaland? Two LGAs sorry excluding Igbodo and Ekwuoma. You and those that share your aspirations are not considerate enough. Do you know the present time we all are in this empire called Nigeria? SMH for you. Think deep.
Now, your constant reference to the UNJUSTIFIABLE Biafran genocide as though the Igbos brought it upon themselves only shows how wicked you are. That Ika people(majority) distanced themselves from Biafra then doesn't make them less Igbo; it could be the best way to escape the genocidal Nigeria army. So we understood it. However, if this is how majority of Ikas see it(how you are presenting it here), then Ikas are NEVER Igbos and come what may will never be recognised as sharing anything with Igbos. So heartless of you.
Again, Ikaland is just 20mins drive at most and you are here making noise as though other Igbos come to steal or beg you for land or as though there are no more lands in SE and SS. Sonya4all stay in Owerre and she can attest to seeing plenty of arable land there.
Finally, goodluck to your new Ika ethnic nationality; wipe off anything Igbo in your dialect and culture and replace them with those of Bini and Yoruba. We will miss you people but certainly not your land as we have ours sufficiently. Will you people miss us? Only time will tell. Dalu nu.

Romance › Re: The Alpha Male Vs The Nice Guy – Which Do You Prefer? by Yujin(m): 8:41pm On Dec 10, 2012
phoenix33: Who Loves An Alpha Male?

He is so cool. So suave, so confident and so bad ass. When he walks into the room, everyone stops to notice. Men like to hate him, women, well; they would just give anything to date him.

It’s not very hard to spot him in the crowd. In fact it’s really very easy because everyone wants to hang out with him. It’s that ‘thing’ about him that draws all eyes and attention; the unmistakable characteristics, the leader-of-the-pack appeal. Welcome to the world of the Alpha Male. Check.

And that’s all fine. Alpha Males exist. They are real. And they are the ‘IT’ boys who can turn tables with their infinite capacity for charm. True Story.

And guys, really, which one of you will not aspire for such ‘IT’ appeal? Such ‘It-ness’ is all-season demand. We get that.

But here’s the catch. There are these few things, an Alpha Male NEVER does. In the world of Alpha Male-ism, these things are strictly anathema. And if per chance you are exhibiting any of these symptoms, you know that whatever else you may be or not, a thick red cross has been drawn over the Alpha Male option!

Getting on with the not-an-alpha-male dead giveaways: (Girls, be paying more attention that the dudes!)
You Bully People:

An Alpha male is a fighter. True. And he will take on bigger, bad asser, chunkier foes if the need be. But Alpha Male be no bully. Bully-ism isn’t something that Alpha ‘It-ism’ is made of. Alpha Males do ‘real’ fights.

You Betray Others To Get Ahead:

Oh no. Bullshit Alarm. Alpha Males don’t abandon their pack; they don’t betray their pack. Alpha Males don’t believe in walking all over others to get ahead. They fight honorable fights and they fight hard. Underhanded, scheming? Not so Alpha Male in our opinion.

You Lie:

Alpha Male may be a lot of things. But he isn’t a liar. He doesn’t lie to his boss, to his friends, to his girlfriend. He doesn’t feel the need to. He knows what he knows. And he does what he does. He’s got his facts straight, and his priorities right. He doesn’t get himself into situations he might need to slither past, or wriggle out of. Lying, isn’t his thing. If you lie a bunch, dude, being an Alpha Male isn’t your thing!

You Blame Others:

Does blame game too much, too often? Douche Bag Alarm! Certainly NOT Alpha Male at all!

You Act Before You Think:

So you think it’s funny? Snapping into a reaction before putting much thought? We think not – not funny at all. Alpha Males are ace, cool, composed thinkers. You can hear their brain ticking and isn’t that just so attractive. Cool, methodical and calculated. Not rash, jumpy and reactive.

You Panic In Crisis:

Know this – the more severe the panic, the cooler an Alpha Male will be in responding to the crisis. He doesn’t panic. He doesn’t let others panic. In-Control – SO ALPHA!

You Gossip:

And that’s just girly! And you gossip about your friends, your girlfriend, your colleagues and your boss. And everything else in general. You pick out people’s weaknesses and shred them and think that makes up for a good, lasting, heartening laugh. True, if you do this, you may be bagging one ferocious bout of laughter, but that’s all you’re going home with, douche bag!

You Suck Up And Seek Approval:

And Alpha Male doesn’t suck up, he doesn’t seek approval. Let’s put it this way: He is sucked up to, and he dishes out approval to others. Check.

You Don’t Do Apology Even When You’re Wrong:

An Alpha Male is very clear about this. He can be wrong. He makes no claims about being infallible. And since he can be and is wrong sometimes, he has no qualms in manning-up and accepting his mistake and apologizing for it. In fact this is one trait that raises his hotness by like a thousand notches!

You Let Your Girl Pay For Dinner:

So really, it has less to do with notions of gender equality and rah rah. It’s more about how an Alpha Male operates. He’s got gentle manly written all over him. Even if his girl offers and reaches for the cheque, he gently plucks it off her hands and calmly, not facetiously, goes, ‘Hey, I’m handling this.’ And that’s that.

So dudes, you can go through this check list, like carefully. And tick off the traits and decide for yourself what your real Alpha Male quotient is. If you’ve managed to spare yourself of even eight out of these ten So Non-Alpha Qualities, We SEE POTENTIAL!

Peace out!
A very nice description of myself. I see myself as one who is prepared to lose so that I can win and indeed I have won many 'battles' and 'games' in life.

3)If demand remains unchanged and supply increases, there will further decrease in price
4)If demand remains unchanged and supply decreases, there will be increase in price.
**1&4 means scarcity. This can be as a result low production, govt policy, hoarding or artificial scarcity.
**2&3 means surplus(or glut as defined by Dangote). This could be function of competition, change in taste, govt policy etc

From the foregoing,it could be seen that Dangote is against PRICE REDUCTION.

Shutdown decision is an economic sabotage which our govt(apostle of local content and export)should rise up against. Better still, let the market be fully saturated with locally and globally produced products. This will leads to mass competition thus reducing price. Nobody will force him back to business when his aim of creating artificial scarcity becomes futile.

Allow economic principles to work naturally and we become a better country and citizens

While I'm in agreement with SLS on the retrogressive impact of Federal Character on the development of this empire, I clearly see the hidden message. Why cite the additional state request of the South East in your analysis when you know that Federal Character WILL NEVER be stopped in this Nigeria with the present political set up? He's subtly saying it shouldn't be created because an additional ministry would have to be created for the new state. In his quest to manage the expenses of the FG, I think the excess LGA's in the north should be collapsed and the money channeled into better use than increasing the unemployment rate by retrenching 50% of civil servants.

If I look at it from another angle, then you’re better off with the 2nd lady cos she seems to know what she wants and goes for it and I’m not saying cos of that, then she’s cheap; cos she ain’t.

The 1st lady was forming too much and now she’s got to pay the price; she probably remembered that this is the 21st century and she has suddenly woken up to smell the coffee. If she throws a tantrum, ignore her as she didn't know what she wanted from the start. Let her know you’ll rather remain as a friend which was what she wanted from day one and she displayed this for at least a full year.

But remember, it could turn really ugly and nasty; “TRY NOT TO DATE BOTH LADIES TOGETHER; WHETHER IN THE OPEN OR SECRETLY” cos “HELL HAS NO FURY LIKE A WOMAN SCORNED”....IMHO, I’ll say stick with the 2nd lady but let the 1st lady know the reason why you’re dating her friend. All the best and be careful ..cos we ladies sometimes hmmm I’ll say no more....
Best advice. Do not go for the first one(as I suspect you prefer) except if there are certain things you didn't tell us.

It is surprising that this thread is still running and finally has given proof to my insinuation[Agbontaen/Solomon is a heavily Yoruba influenced Owa(Ika-Igbo) man who over the years have come to HATE anything Igbo]. I have followed this thread for over a year now always noticing how he demeans anything Igbo but eulogizes Benin/Yoruba in his contributions. The Yoruba aspect until recently has been subtle that is why I was hesitant to comment. Agbontaen, you do not need to insult the general Igbo as 'land grabbers' to make your point for a separate ethnicity. Igbos hold language as a link to kinship that is why they still regard Ika as Igbo- mind you the Europeans equally saw the similarity. Igbos want to cling tenaciously to any group of people sharing similar language because of the denial of some well known Igbo groups to be Igbo which ONLY came shortly before and after the civil war, so you shouldn't blame us.
Now, I must commend your zeal and effort in pursuance of your Ika ethnic group as a separate identity. I have seen you comments many other sites. If majority of Ikas want it, then I wish you all the best but if only a few disgruntled elements are the ones fanning the embers of balkanization, then they will utterly fail. WHEN the Igbos get a leverage in the polity of Nigeria, I hope not to see your churning some verbal fervour to counter all you have written here. One thing I will say is that the general Igbo will surely miss the Ika-Igbo(because of the human resources there) but will get along well in her quest for the good of Alaigbo. On the other hand, will the Ikas miss the general Igbo in their quest too? I will leave that question to you(Agbontaen and Sonya4all). Ka odili anyi nile nma.

Abagworo: As a matter of fact Igbos in the Southeast never used that Igbo world to address themselves as can be seen in my list above. Nobody listed Igbo. The only Igbo group that had several sub-groups was the Isuama and they knew themselves as Isu and not Igbo. Also Etche.

Look at the list of the tribes. Among these are several people considered today as Igbos(Only one tribe was labelled Igbo-"Igbo Nduri"wink and some in Rivers like Isu-Etche, Osusu Etche and Osusu Omuma.:

Abalo, Acocuá, Agro, Apapá, Bibí, Bogre, Bogre
Isuama, Abate Singlava, Brícamo, Ecunaso, Ibo Induri, Isicuato, Isiegue, Isuama, Isuama Aballa Ocuite, Isuama Ibi, Isuama Isiegue, Isueche, Oquella, Ososo, Ososo Eche, Ososo Omuma, Oxó, Ugri, Unigini, Aballa
Otopa, Isuama Umofina, Isuama
Osulerisna, Orú, Elugo, Orate, Bané, Yudusi.
@ Abagworo,
This confirms what I said about Igbo identifying more with clans. Funny enough some are still towing this path today e.g ChinenyeN.

Yeah, some Equitorial Guineans are Igbos. It was during the slave trade that they were taken there. Check their female national team, you would notice some Igbo names. The british knew this that was why they tried in 1930s to relocate some erosion prone communities in the east there but Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe refused.
Culture › Re: Caribbean Indigenes Speak Igbo & Yoruba Languages by Yujin(m): 4:20pm On Nov 11, 2012
This is no news as students of history should know about the trans-atlantic slave trade. What is of note is that the Yoruba culture and diction survived well unlike that of other tribes Igbo inclusive. Written records clearly showed that more Igbos were shipped away than the Yorubas but how comes it was that of latter that survived? I think it has to do with organization of the tribes, their adaptability to change(attitude towards foreign influence) and the period they were featured in the course of the slave trade. Yorubas have larger settlements that gave them that early sense of communal/cultural identities unlike the Igbos that were segmented and highly conscious of their clans. This helped the Yorubas cement their culture wherever they were taken once they notice any similarity among the slaves. Unlike the Igbos who are mostly linked by diction with dissimilar customs e.g Olaudah Equiano of the 16th century noted that he saw some Igbos in London and the labourers in the sugarcane plantation in Haiti were people of his own stock(possibly because he understood them). Secondly, the Igbos do not hesitate to make changes when they encounter things that is quite unusual whether good or bad(this is still evident today) unlike the Yorubas that are conservative and skeptical of change (this is still evident today). Finally, I think the Yorubas featured more towards the ending part of slave trade e.g Bishop Ajayi Crowther, while the demand for the Igbos dwindled due to their suicidal tendencies.
Ceteris paribus, they are welcome home.
