Henry240: That vehicle never does well in combat. I usually wonder why countries keep buying them. Saudi M-ATVs in yemen, same sad story.
It's more about the politics than anything else. Those who mostly buy the M-ATV are mostly US allies, so it's the "let's buy American, they will protect us from Iran" kind of mindset.
Henry240: Equitorial Guniea Frigate
Equatorial Guinea is currently engaged in a major, but
little-reported naval expansion. In recent years it has
acquired four Bulgarian-built ships (two PV 50 patrol
vessels, as well as Wele Nzas and Bata ),two 62 m offshore
patrol vessels, two Shaldag fast attack craft from Israel
Shipyards, and a Chinese-built 91.45m roll-on/roll-off
landing ship.
This is a 2014 report.
Great news, now you don't have to worry about patrolling the Gulf of Guinea
Henry240: That Frigate was partially built in Equitorial Guinea. They have a small, but modern navy. Since they are Spanish speakers, i think the only Spanish speaking country in Africa, news from there is hard to come by.
TrueHeart365: I prefer it to the SANDF cammo. My opinion though
The SANDF cammo is a scientifically made for operating anywhere in South Africa (which is a semi-arid country) which is why it has mostly brown and pale green patterns.... I know Swaziland uses a very green pattern, I can spot their troops 5 kilometers away on arid grass and that defeats the whole purpose of camouflaging.
tdayof: What a joker you're. Take off your damn Gripen and tell me how your Airforce is more better than ours. Tell me how Nigerian navy is lacking? Your excuse no frigate etc? I don't blame you, I blame our military chief. Your ground troops , how better are they than ours?
You'll come here and be spilling one shiit about Angola who cares?
1. Better radars, LINK-ZA, unrivaled electronic warfare, better AAMs, better attack helicopter, airborne assault capacity, WW2, Korean War and Border War experience. What do you have? An Alpha Jet and a Jet older than my mother.
2. Yes you don't have a frigate, no submarine, no naval surface to air missile. Technically you're a brown water navy.
3. Our army - clear infantry structures, structured machinized infantry, structured motorized infantry, standard equipment accros, self sufficient, we don't train overseas.... Meanwhile your troops are not even sure which camouflage to wear, even Swaziland does that better.
jakeporeshenko: who's "we" ? i was asking you personal questions not in reference to your armed forces, its a thing of respect, before you call those brave men who have fought and died "Facebook boys" what have you done for your country ? internet warrior its not a hard questions.
Hehehe, OK soldier boy, I bet salary is the motivation for 99.9% of your Facebook boys.... We know you're everything but brave, we know the countless stories of soldiers running away from combat, 400 at some point. Let's not go back to those days.
Henry240: Go back to the thread, re-read, assimilate and make a comment. Don't just post whatever fart enters your head. I can identify everyone of those operators, there faces are well visible for identification.
If you want to see Nigerian Spec Ops training, hope on a flight go to any of the multiple CTCOIN/COIN training centers in Nigeria. What you feel or don't feel is entirely your problem.
No sir, I don't consider the Recce to be a professional fighting unit.
There are thousands of Nigerian SF photos shared, the title of this thread is also clear.
Don't get emotional..... You wouldn't know professionalism even if it hit you with both your eyes opened.
Continue posting pictures, of course feel free to post your Facebook homies in military uniform.
jakeporeshenko: this internet warrior just called our deadly pipe hitters "Facebook boys" i can't believe it, how many dead terrorist do you see per day mister, if you don't mind me asking, how many men have driven up to you at full speed in a car loaded with bombs? or how many IEDs have you encountered in your days ? this is why i don't bother to get myself involved in arguments with you Saffers or where ever you are from. Henro don't bother to reply these clowns, its a complete waste of time, common sense can't be taught, imagine comparing their goons who in the past 20 years have only delt with street thugs in DRC,CAR and hunters in their own backyard to our guys hahaha... "individuals not soldiers".
IEDs? We survived anti tank land mines and learned to walk over them and wrote books about it, we survived Cubans and T62s 300km inside enemy territory with nothing but excellence. We downed Hinds, MiGs decorated a foreign landscape with their own scrap metal. Come back and let's talk military professionalism when your airforce boys encourage elite fighters trained in Russia then we will talk. Till then go fight Koran reading people.
Henry240: He's a South-African commando. That's is all that matters, I've proven my point and this argument is no longer up for a debate.
It was never for debate because there was none. SASFB don't pose with their weapons, assault systems and faces on Facebook, Skyscrapercity or Nairaland.
Henry240: I believe Mr Selfie taking RSA Airborne Commando has taken permission to take this selfie. You probably think everyone in Africa is illiterate as South-Africans back home.
If i decide to search further on Instagram, I am sure going to get more photos.
Hehehe, it's a home picture, no gear on, no weapons, not in field... Try harder something harder.
Henry240: When you make an ignorant comment, i'm more than obliged to educate you. World Armies page on Flickr has photos of South-African Hornets with the MRLS and Mortar system. Go check out the page. Nothing secret about that.
The South-African Commando on Instagram who wants to scale 7 of the world's highest peaks has his photos clearly splashed all over instagram. If I decide to search for South-African commandos, including your Parabats, I'm sure i'll see enough photos.
Don't pass off ignorant comments just to feel full of yourself.
Oga Henry240
The US Elite forces you posted here are not posing for selfies, they were shot by someone with military clearance to do that... If you see them close, they'd be wearing beards with eyewear and they'll look totally different when they're on the US streets.
As far as photos go, there's no formal structure on how your Ops pictures are taken and shared. Yes the level of professionalism with the Recce is far ahead from any elite unit you parade. In everyone of the pictures you post, I see individuals not soldiers. Henry240, check Kenyan, Botswana, Senegalese and even Ugandans they look like soldiers NOT Facebook boys wearing military uniform.
Patchesagain: To maintain 5 OPVs at sea 23/7 means you will need 15 minimum... Training, reserve, maintenance included
Maybe not, just use 2 for training, keep 3 on reserve and 5 on patrol. The only down side would be the operational costs of being at sea constantly. No one can actually afford 15 OPVs unless you're Egypt who's more interested in the military than its crumbling infrastructure.
upko1: Very funny man! So he came all the way to Nigeria, to wear Nigerian camo then pick up a Nigerian assault rifle to pose for a picture. Well you may be correct
Nevertheless he still doesn't look like he's training.... Please check Senegalese pictures, they look like they're training.
Henry240: Small & Efficient has always been fiction. Especially in the pirates infested waters of the gulf of guinea, although since the Navy launched Operation "Tsare Tseku", piracy attacks across the entire gulf of guinea ( Angola - Senegal) has been low.
My point is, there has to be a constant presence at sea, at the moment the Nigerian navy can deploy 8 proper ships at sea. With 5 more due to be launched soon, that number would increase to 13. No matter how efficient, even if it is the Norwegian navy, you'll still need those ships providing a constant presence at sea. It is the only way to secure a maritime environment for national prosperity.
As I said before, big numbers need bigger budgets. When you buy something you need to have a proper plan to keep it running otherwise you'll have another Aradu scenario.
You don't need large numbers of vessels for pirates to know you exist. A single OPV launches a helicopter for a 400km patrol radius, two give you 800km and so forth. With just 5 OPVs you could cover the whole Gulf.
Henry240: The problems with the Aradu all boils down to funding. We have one the largest fleets in Africa and an impressive fleet, however not much can be achieved if the fleet is not properly funded. If funding does not improve, the fate of the Nigerian navy and it's general outlook would continue to be bleak.
Despite our funding problems, the Navy's posture is still visible, and can still deploy an Armada of ships, this is a very good thing.
Anyway, Lawmakers have promised improved funding for the Navy in 2017's budget, and increased extra-budgetary allocations for the navy.
The trick is to have a small efficient navy, buy what is really needed and easy to maintain (even by local supplies). Lawmakers are very unreliable, one moment your navy could be swimming in money then down the years it's mud-stuck when fighting insurgents is no longer a priority.
M14A1: Its crazy, I've also noticed the age long trend of not officially decommissioning hulls and airframes most times, they simply sail and fly the sheiit out of the hulls and airframes then OUT OF SERVICE just like that.
It's silly to keep running down and replacing, doesn't help anybody
Whatever aged the Aradu would age other new frigates if purchased. The ship itself is not old, I mean we still have strike crafts commissioned in the 70s still in active service in the SAN. Before rushing into refitting or buying a frigate, your navy could better launch a formal inquiry on how a young ship like the Aradu got into this current state otherwise your navy could keep going in circles.
chkil: algeria was under embargo from 1991 to 2001 , so it's spend a lot to replace it old equipement , + mos important the geopolitics situation it's not the same , north africa was always on the history a theater of wars , we have security problems in all our borders , chaos libya , malian insurgents terrorist , problems with morocco and western sahara , and tunisia also have terrorist problems now ,+ Gibraltar + NATO just in front of us and others superpowers who are note happy from algerian policy ! if we don't be careful we can easly be transformed like syria , libya like they try to do in the 90's . so there is no devellopement if you don't protect your country from being erased and returned ton stone age . and for others sector of devellopment algeria is one of the most develloped country in africa .
man look at the last episode from designated survivor série, USA want to invade as
for tigers corvettes it's to replace the Nanuchka II corvettes class ( on the pics) delivred in 1980, 1982 .
The point of your weapons purchase is understandable. You want to pull-off a little show in case NATO decides to say hi.
From a social view, citizens just get a feeling that the government has plenty of cash THEN they start demanding ridiculous things. Study case is South Africa - a few new jets, frigates and submarines got people thinking the state is loaded now they demand free tertiary education... The government is now trying to hide any form of military acquisition under the Secrecy Bill because if we ever even buy a lousy aircraft and it went to the media, the country would go into flames.
Point here: Your spend plenty of money on the military, you get social unrest.
These guys were in action just a few hours ago in a hostage situation in Pretoria suburbia. It's rumoured the hostage taker killed himself after he heard the STF was on the scene.
Patchesagain: Free education isnt going to happen. Its the Nuclear Deal + Slow Economic Growth multiplied by a weak Rand.
But ja, the Oryx issue keeps me awake at night.
With Zuma at the helm the economy will not recover, so we have to wait until after elections to see what happens. But who knows, if this fees must fall buisness continues long enough* maybe the Government will be forced (maybe only subconsciously) to review military capabilities.
*This is blatantly in the realm of a 3rd force. I am getting strong Arab spring vibes. Ever wonder why our economy got rocked right after we announced the BRICS bank to rival the IMF? Notice how Brazil randomly went down earlier this year (the silent coup)? Notice how their economy hit the tubes right at the same time as ours? Ever wonder how the fvck the EFF (who is supported by the poorest of South Africans) can afford such lavish election campaigns and rallies? Im not usually one for conspiracies, but this sh1t is pilling up so thick and fast that there is definitely something going on, just what I dont know, but something. Probably just home grown agitation from the EFF, but I remember studying South American history at University our story is beginning to be very similar.
Ouen, ek se vir jou, heir kom kak.
Hehehe, the only free thing I support is free Internet so maybe South Africans can Google more often.
As for the Orxy replacement, the French EC725 heli could do the trick. Its a Puma derivative, making it a distant cousin of the Orxy.... I mean this chopper is a newer frame on the market and carries 45% more troops than the Orxy.
Buying it means we're keeping a familiar platform and we could buy less while retaining the same number of troops flown.... Who knows, maybe Denel could do some modifications and we'd have the Orxy MK2.
