Donnyperry:Is it the estate opposite one Mama Cass at Ogba cos i can swear that this is the same girl that i saw playing tennis there some years back. |
Igboid:The emboldened has always been my only problem. I have accepted Ikwerre as a different ethnic group from Igbo but what irks me is the distortion. It's plain annoying. How on earth can you champion a benin migration against an Igbo one and be proud of it when it does not make any sense and claim that you met Igbos through trading. That's just plain annoying and an attempt to twist history. Let's just agree to the fact that present Ikwerre land does not want to be seen as Igbo. Chikena. |
HopeAtHand:The argument is just as hard as someone else seeing Ikwerre as Igbo. It's a two way thing and you don't expect everyone to understand. If someone from the North or West can call anybody east of Ondo state Igbo, what do you expect them to call someone who bears an Igbo (Igboid if you like) name. People are not as sophisticated as that. It's only natural for people not to be critical. We're emotional creatures. The same way some from Egbema in Rivers statemay say they are not Igbo without cvritically considering the fact that his fellow Egbema native in neigbouring Imo state is a bonafide Igbo person. It just doesn't make sense and one may be forced to believe that something has passed under the bridge and it may not be water. |
HopeAtHand:Well said. If you noticed, i didn't mention Ikwerre, Ika or Ukwuani for the same reasons you stated above. Not because i feel these groups cannot be Igbos but like you alluded to, they have either evolved overtime or have a totally different ideology from Igbos and only a sprinkle of people from these ethnic groups can accept being Igbos but an overwhelming majority of them especially when represented by groups such as Ogbakor Ikwerre see themselves as a different ethnic group from Igbos. But that's should not in anyway take away the brotherhood that exists between these groups and Igbos even if it's just cultural or linguistic. |
Anybody who has common sense choses to tell him/herself the truth will laugh at most of these arguments linking obvious Igbo groups such as Etche to anything but Igbo. The only thing that differentiates these groups from Igbo is simply politics. So, i subscribe to one of the comments that Etche is Igbo linguistically, culturally, Socially but not politically. Mind you, political inclination can change overtime. It is immoral and criminal to link groups like Etche, Egbema, Aniocha and Oshimilli to anything but Igbo. Some of these people have been lied to and it beats me how a grown azz man can open his mouth and talk the kind of rubbish that people like IRONDI on that group was saying. If the person is not idiotic then he/she has to be intentionally playing to the gallery and these people end up influencing unsuspecting people. I experienced this first hand when i visited Okwuzi, Mgbede, Agah and Ibuocha communities in Egbema part of Rivers state and it's funny how you will hear the "We are not Igbo" slogan from some people in these places but as soon as you cross into the neigbouring villages of Abacheke, Mmahu, Obiakpu and Obeakpu in the same Egbema but this time in the Imo side, the song changes to "We are Igbos". This goes to chow that there was a deliberate attempt to convince these people that they are not Igbos and some of them have fallen for it. cc: Abagworo Hopeathand |
Abagworo:I've noticed how you always want to blame past leaders especially Jonathan with whatever is happening without also blaming the present leadership for not being able to put things in order since they're now at the helm of affairs. Is this what politics has reduced us to? |
Igbo parents can be weird at times. imagine considering their children not being able to speak Igbo as a thing of joy or class. I also fall into the category of Igbos that grew up outside Igboland (but was born in Enugu). I understand the Igbo language atleast 90% but speaking is where the problem is. Most times i know what to say, it's just that it does not come out right or i'll have to think of what to say especially when i want to construct a sentence and no one has time to wait for me while i think. I'm confident that if i spend atleast 6 months to a year in Enugu, Owerri, Onitsha or any major Igbo town, i'll become an expert of some sort. |
jstbeinhonest:What makes these two the best Nigerian baslketballers? I thought Diogu had the title owing to his achievement for Nigeria. |
MadCow1:I heared Ijaws can stay inside water for more than one hour. Unfortunately, there's no such sport in the olympics for them to showcase their talent. As far as shooting is concerned, i think Borno natives should be winning it. |
jstbeinhonest:Who are the two best Nigerian basketballers if i may ask? Were they not there when the US team spanked beyond recognition us some years back? |
I like the way they responded to him in a very matured way. I swear Igbos love Jonathan no be small. As per his submission, he's entitled to it especially as a former president and a nationalist but i believe the point he made about smaller components being forgotten by the world is misguided. I don't think any country cares so much about being remembered as long as they are progressing and their citizens are being catered for. |
Which part of Owerri is this tunnel located? |
Go for a language with a wider reach. |
Nnamani is a name limited to enugu state. I used to think the same about Nnaji until i knew Genevieve nnaji. |
Secret of sand was drugs in the 90s and i was fascinated with the characters especilly Ruth, Rachael, Antonio, Mr Virgilio, Chicken legs et al. I also enjoyed Passions while i watched it. Sunset beach was also fun to watch and it was probably the last soap opera of American origin that i watched before the likes of "When you are mine", "Catalina and Sebastian", "Gardeners daughter", "All about Camilla", "Second Chance" etc. |
finally, nsukka is getting the attention it deserves. |
nobsalis:wetin you dey yarn sef. You be alien wey you no go like quantico? |
whenever i find myself in egbema either in imo or rivers state and i speak a smirk of central igbo, the tend to either call me onye anambra or isu. The latter is a term im not used too but it seems like a term used in egbema used to refer to mainstream igbo language. |

Okorocha should as a matter of urgency do something about the road at Douglas road |
lolawilliams:kai. I hope you know that eu means european union and not europe. |
Abagworo:I don't know which is bigger between both cities but i'm inching towards Port-hacourt but i'll need a more concrete proof why you would say that PH is 4 times larger than Onitsha and you should state areas that these two cities cover. |
Marcelini:I don't know why you people want to kill yourself over this issue without understanding the current realities. There is no reason why Ikwerre cannot be Igbo as there's is no reason why Ikwerre cannot assert itself as a different ethnic group. Forget whether they were Igbos before the civil war or after it. The present realities suggests that they have created a different ethnic identity from the greater Igbo nation. Linguistically, Ikwerre can still be referred to as a dialect of the Igbo language but as far as ethnicity is concerned, they are Ikwerre and want to be identified as such. If the reverse was the case, we won't be having this discussion. Nobody is arguing whether Onitsha or Owerri people are Igbos or not. Forget about whether some Ikwerres are in Ohanaeze Ndigbo or not. It doesn't change anything. For some Ikwerres, they're Igbos by extension and will join any Igbo group especially when outside Nigeria but for majority of Ikwerre people, they are Ikwerre and not Igbo but see Igbos as their brothers. Ethnicity is beyond language or culture especially in recent times when politics has become a major determinant of ethnicity. |
HopeAtHand:Except that Spain and Portugal are both countries while Igbo and Ikwerre are just areas in the same country which btw are contiguous with each other. |
As much as this is a mere speculation, it's pertinent to note that for the first time NYSC did not release the posting letter for the batch B along with Batch A as it's always the case. I won't be surprised if this rumour turns out to be true. |
The Ogun state camp is better than this. It's arguably the best in the country. |
gboss4sure:My thought exactly. I was surprised when I saw the mall in the next middleman of nowhere. But looking at it from another angle, this may just be another of opening up other parts of the city. |
cheruv:Are you inferring that theme is no single Muslim who is from Rivers and lives there too. What about the non indigene that are muslims? What then makes Rivers a Christian state? |
I always wonder why Nigerians like tomatoes stew so much when there is is bangalore and salad stew. |
Alfred234:I thought they cancelled the show. If it's true, then I can't wait. |
One cannot help but shudder at the absurdity that is creating grazing reserves. We have one of the most useless and senseless government in the world else I don't understand how this is a solution to the invasion of the Fulani herdsmen and their destruction of lives and farmlands. I don't understand how the private business of a Fulani man has become the prerogative of government. How do you create a grazing reserve for someone running a private venture which he doesn't share with the country himself. Whenever an issue that involves the north, the government is always seen petting and pandering to the whims of people from that Nigeria. Except the government can tell me how many trading reserves that they have created for the Ignore people all over the country, the grazing reserve idea is not o my foolish but an aberration. Igbos who travel round the country use their personal money to buy land, build houses or setup shops but this government of ours want to use our commonwealth to grease the businesses of herders. This should not be allowed to succeed by any state in the south. |
