It's back up. |
kmariko:Microsoft headquareters is in Seattle, Washington while Cocacola is in Atalnta Georgia. If these companies were in Nigeria, they would be in Lagos and Lagos only. They could only venture into ogun state owing to it's closeness to lagos. We operate like the united Kingdom where almost everything is centered in London. This means that other states have to carve a niche for themselves to be taken seriously by organizations. Calabar has done that with tourism. For some reason, Calabar is the most popular city after Lagos, Abuja and Porthacourt despite the fact that interms of development, Enugu beats it imo. |
kmariko:Thanks for bringing this up. Nigeria was not built like America. Unlike America, Nigeria is a one city state where the federal government decides where develops and where doesn't. |
InyinyaAgbaOku:Who says that a software compare cannot be cited in Enugu. My point is, if it's already cited in Lagos or Abuja, of what benefit will it be to move it to Enugu. be sincere with yourself. Is Enugu a Nigerian version of Sillicon valley? |
InyinyaAgbaOku:Enugu and Owerri don't have anything UNIQUE to offer Leo Stan Eke of Zinox apart from the fact that they are cities in Igboland where he comes from. We must desist from this emotional request for investment. people should be made to invest because they have something to benefit and not because they owe it to Igboland. Do you think if Enugu was on the same level with lagos, Igbos would rather invest in Lagos? I don't think so. They're in Lagos for a reason. We can keep lying to ourselves as much as we want. Until we start telling ourselves the truth, we will remain in square one. |
Like someone said and like we've been saying for years, we can only compete favourably if we start informing public and the best and only way to do that is through media. Ezeagu captured it when he said that Igboland is the least known among the big ethnic groups in Africa. We need to project ourselves to the world stage and the time is now. |
InyinyaAgbaOku:Maybe if you can tell me what better he stands to gain in Enugu or Owerri compared to Lagos or Abuja then we can find a closure. However you look at it, ZINOX stands less to gain moving to Enugu compared to where they are currently. Until, Enugu, owerri and other Igbo states creates a unique identifier, the issue will remain the same. There's a reason why Nnewi and Onitsha are representing. |
MabraO:Those cd stores and the manufacturers usually go for popular movies. I'm sure if you ask for LOST or Desperate housewives season 1, they'll still have it. That's why i've not been able to get my hands on "Better Call Saul." |
InyinyaAgbaOku:Nnewi has been an automobile center before before the civil war, so you can't compare it with Enugu and Owerri that are not really known for any kind of craft. Even at that, why can't you convince all the Igbo spare parts dealers all over the country to move their business to Nnewi. Does it make sense? Why can't Coscharis move their business to Nnewi as well? |
BuddahMonk:I think the civil war put us in a tight corner. if there was no civil war and we were still at the same level nationally as we were pre 1967 then we will not be having this conversation. It's not fair to compare us to any other group in Nigeria. Our history was tainted by the civil war and so our story is different. We have to come to the realization that Igbos did not just decide that living outside Igboland is better off than in Igboland. That's why i fault the argument of some people that Igbos are born migrants or travellers. No, we are not. Na condition na him make crayfish bend. We have to now look at have we can rescue the situation by being factual and realistic. Where can we go from here. What do we need to do to make people like Leo Stan Eke to look eastwards. How can we make Ifeanyi Uba to move the headquateters of Capital oil to somewhere in the east. Can a Tony Elumelu or a Fidelity Bank think of citing their skyscraper headquarters in Enugu? Let's cut these people some slack by understanding that they are business men first and formost. A lot of us that are even having this discussion are based in the east. So, where do we go from here. |
bily:The film with the lady with tattoes right? |
Baba awon criminals rocked it better. |
BuddahMonk:You have a point but these things are easier said than done. Have you asked yourself why the Yorubas and Hausas don't have the same problems Igbos have as far as investing at home is concerned? Why do we have that problem? It's simple. Our development was altered as a result of the civil war. Yes, our people have recovered in terms of pursuing their dreams but the problem is that most of these people did not do it in Igboland. They did it in Lagos, Abuja, Port-hacourt, Kano, US, UK and other parts of the world and some of them came back to Igboland to build houses and that is what has even made Igboland to develop to the level that it is now. There's still a problem though. We have to convince the Igbo intelligentsia who live in these places to return home but we have to be practical in our approach. How will you tell a Zinox who manufactures computers to leave Lagos(the commercial capital of Nigeria and the place where most of his computers will be sold) or Abuja to move to Enugu or Owerri. The question he will ask you is, what can Enugu and Owerri offer. Let's not forget that he is a business man and not necessarily a philantropist and as such the thinks about the business implication of his company before anything else. The best he can do is to setup Afrihub in Universities in Igboland which he has done. Now, to be practical, the onus rests on the shoulders of the Governors of the 5 eastern states to make their states business friendly by providing constant electricity, access roads, seaports and airports to make it attractive to Igbos first and foremost before anyone else. If Igboland was that attractive, we would have seen non Igbos investing there. |
Bishop42:This may just be the dumbest post that I have ever come across on this thread (no offence). It's because of statements like you that Igbos may never be united. Unity does not mean that everyone must agree to the same thing. And who are you to determine what is agreed by the majority. Who took a poll? We must learn to entertain different ideas and suggestions and the lack of that has always been the bane of the Igbo nation. Some of you are just stubborn and are not ready to hear others out. You just want to force everyone to agree with you. |
I agree with the realists in Abagworo and Eze ago. Our greatest problem as Igbo is the lie we tell ourselves to make us feel better. |
Is this not the height of it really. People allow you into their country as the next thing you do is to cause havoc and denigrate their religion. |
Odkboy23:Ray Donovan is more than just a fixer. He's a heartless killer. |
HappyJoe:We need to do away with the emboldened mentality. The fact that we Igbos have done everything ourselves does not mean that the government, especially the SE governors should not make concerted efforts at solving some pertinent issues. The only thing holding Ebonyi imo is education and all hands must be on deck to solve the problem. |
There's no gain saying that Enugu is now a hub for residential estates. It's no surprising as a lot Igbos who live all over Nigeria and the world have found Enugu as their home due to it's status as the defacto capital of Eastern Nigeria and Igboland. I think we need to start looking at creating world class business and industrial districts that will put Enugu in a competitive level with cities all over Africa and the world. That's the only area that i think Enugu is lacking. |
Is it not on this thread that people have been suggesting "Under the Dome". The film looks cheesy to me. They're trying too hard. |
BuddahMonk:Ths is one of the bane of the Igbo nation. I have nothing against Ikwerre peeps. It' just the denial is overwhelming and as such we should let them be. Let's develop the area known as the South-East and also keep an open arm to anyone who wants to join. But we shouldn't go out of our way to try to force an identity on other people. It hampers our progress. I feel the same way about Anioma. Not just because of Ika and Ukwuani areas who mostly disclaim their Igboness but due to the fact that even the Aniocha/Oshimili people are in a state where there are non Igbos, so it will be difficult to embark on a regional integration that involves Delta state. |
Ajibel:The only thing Enyimba has above Rangers is the CAF champions league. It is debatable no doubt but I'm sticking my neck out for Rangers due the history of the could and because I'm a fan. |
asha80:Yeah. We're still hoping Ugwuanyi does not disappoint. |
Krasid:History is what Real Madrid has over other clubs. Plus the fact that Rangers and Enyimba are at par in terms of how many times that they have won the league. |
macof:I was referring to those who now speak Yoruba as a native language but not necessarily Yoruba. |
The Anambra thread is now busier than this thread. You just know when a governor is working. I guess it's turn by turn. All the same, its good for Igboland. |
Ajibel:If it's overall, then Enyimba may just be behind Rangers. Rangers is the Real Madrid of club football in Nigeria. |
Igbonazy:Very silly mentality (no offence) |
taiocol:We're talking of history here. Rangers may not have any trophy in 3 decades but they've been consistent in the top flight and are the only team never to have been relegated. |
Krasid:It is debatable because Rangers and Enyimba are at par in terms of winnings in the league. Enyimba has an edge in continental championship while Rangers holds the ace in history. |
By language, Kwara is about 80% Yoruba. But by ethnicity is difficult to call. While those in the Offa axis are proud Yorubas, those in Ilorin are kind of divided. They are to Yorubas what Ika is to Igbos. |
Funny thread. |
