Having read their reasons, I think NMA is only trying to protect the pride of their doctors. Simple. If they are afraid of infection from those Chinese doctors like he subtly implied, they can be tested.

The NMA has confessed that over 40 doctors are in isolation because they were exposed to the virus. Who is going to replace the 40+ in the mean time? These are the same doctors who kept telling us before the pandemic that they were overworked and that we lose too many of our doctors to Europe and America. Now, they claim to be sufficient in number.

Well, it’s fine. If this pandemic ravaged the community, nobody will remember the doctors, but if there’s tremendous success, nobody will remember the role of the government. The doctors will be commended, taking for granted the fact that the medical equipment and facilities are provided by the government especially in a time of global scarcity.

To be frank, as an observer, I believe all the reasons stated here for not interacting with the Chinese doctors don’t hold water. There are indications that this is territorial behaviour.

If the government had gathered Nigerian doctors from all over the world and brought them home to assist the NMA, they would still reject the idea, going by the excuses given in this interview.


Italy did not reject the Cuban doctors, instead they welcomed them with fanfare. Only red necks in the UK have protested the presence of Chinese doctors. Majority recognise their input and welcome it.

In my country Nigeria, our doctors are concerned about their territory. This doctor went so far as to suggest that different races need different approach to managing this illness. That is interesting.

Even the so called enlightened residents in Lekki and Ikoyi would not be this organised here in their own country. They’d be forming levels that it’s an insult to be on a queue and maintain decorum.
