Politics › Re: Bloomberg Compares Nigeria 2014 And 2018-hard Data by alezzy13: 1:16am On May 16, 2019 |
grandstar: I was almost torn to shreds for suggesting Nigeria reduce import duties on textile fabrics to zero in order develop the garment sector. That it will create lots of jobs.
This article has just justified my position. And you have armchair economists here on NL huffing and puffing online as though they have a 2 Nobel prizes in economics.
It's a shame that most governments here are innately protectionist and doubt Nigerian joining the African trade initiative will see the light.
Funny thing is that I'm not really keen on the trade zone. I feel import duties on goods originating from outside the zone will be high. Import duties on goods from outside the zone should not be more than 8%.. I don't think it's as simple as the article would like us to believe. We simply are not competitive enough to operate without some form of protection. You really think the average Nigerian manufacturer paying through his nose for diesel to power his gen, and as well as 911 trucks to transport his goods (no thanks to poor road network) can compete against far more efficient systems elsewhere? Take rice for instance. With the banning of importation, I'm not sure anyone would doubt there's been a remarkable improvement in local production (though the actual increase is in contention). At least I was in Ebonyi and can testify to upsurge in abakaliki rice. Unless and until we deal with infrastructure problem that is seriously hampering business environment here, any attempt to open our borders to unrestricted imports would lead to immediate collapse our local manufacturers. That's for sure |

FemiMaduka: Baba there is no way the figure is $130bn! How much is Dangote worth? At his peak he was valued at $25bn. Even Nigeria cannot sink such in a single project; we simply don't have that kind of sum.
Not long ago our annual national budget was in the range of $35bn. The 40,000MW Three Gorges Dam, one of the biggest projects ever undertaken, gulped about $23bn. Consequently, Dangote refinery, which is not even the biggest in the world - the Ajaokuta Steel complex is still way bigger, can not take such an amount.
It is definitely an oversight. I wonder o. And to think the capacity is just a measly 650,000bpd. Clearly something or someone is wrong here |

Godsgift7837: When they says someone net worth it doesn’t includes how much the person have in his account False. Net worth is usually looking at assets, which could be fixed or liquid, in the case of funds in the account. If Drake is worth just 100m, then the money in his account would be far less. Most would be fixed assets |

Politics › Re: Buhari Nominates Emefiele For Second Term As CBN Governor by alezzy13: 10:17pm On May 09, 2019 |
grandstar: So true!
The economy grew barely 1% on average from 2016 till now compared to the 6% on average from 1999-2013.
Bloomberg forecasted that in the next 4 years, economic growth will average 2.5% per year. This is not up to the population growth rate. That means Nigerians will get poorer every single year.
Does a lot of the blame fall on Emefiele? Sadly, yes.
The CBN is semi autonomous and the reason for this is to prevent political meddling
When Buhari came to power, he fixed the exchange rate at 197 to a $1. This ended the floating exchange rate the country had followed since 1999.
Buhari has no right to dictate the the governor. The governor should have refused to implement it but instead did. That fixed exchange rate coupled with prohibition of 41 items from CBN forex window plunged the economy into a recession.
Emefiele and Buhari are fit for each other. Is the job of CBN gov to grow d economy? Then why do we have finance? trade and investment? Budget and planning? |

Davash222: She’s a small girl with little experience because she refused to give in to suicidal thoughts Well she may have good intentions but obviuosly misguided about what depression is. Simply thinking about 'happy things' will not work. You REALLY think for a clinically depressed with suicidal intentions, the thought of sex will be enough to stop him/her? |
Health › Re: Depression: When I Think Of Sex, How Can I Die? - UNIPORT Female Student (Video) by alezzy13: 4:24pm On May 05, 2019 |
Olalan: She's obviously a small girl with little experience of what life could be sometimes. It takes the Grace of God not to slip into depression when faced with some challenges or situations. BTW a depressed fellow finds no happiness in anything normal peeps feel pleasuring No mind am. She don begin dey sprout small bosoms so body dey catch am. Most people tend to confuse depression with sadness. Which is wrong. Sadness is just a trasient emotional state that can be overcome by doing the things one enjoys, which is presumably what the young lady is referring to, buts it's not so with depression. It a horrifyingly deep state of hopelessness so intense that the more one tries to come out the more it pull them under it's unyielding vacuum. Basically NOTHING will seem worthwhile anymore, hence the usual resort to suicidal ideations. Th4 the solution of simply thinking "about things one enjoys" is hogwash.. Such people require URGENT attention (psychological, spiritual, psychiatric) when they are identified. It's no joke my people. |
Politics › Re: How Can This Ravaging Disease Of Almajiri Get Cured? by alezzy13: 10:18pm On May 04, 2019 |
The mentality is just to bleep and bleep and push out those children in the hundreds (thousands) without the foggiest plan for their welfare.
Of course, the problem of poor people bearing too many children is a nationwide problem, but from what I've personally noticed, it is ACTIVELY ENOURAGED up north, by their leaders (religious, political).
I recall during one of the plenaries in the house of reps, one of the members sought to bring the issue of population explosion to the fore and emphasized the need for effective family planning programs. However, his colleague from the north (supposedly an educated man) countered the position, claiming such would be against his religious doctrine.
It clear some people are benefiting (mostly politically) from the numbers without considering the long term consequences. |
