Politics › Re: What Are Zik's Acheivement That Made Him Pro-nigeria And Not Pro-igbo? by aljharem3: 4:03pm On Aug 11, 2011
There have been many similar topics opened on NL about Zik's contribution to Nigeria. Its a shame we still discuss such things. Let me dissect.

I admire Awolowo for his evidencial love for his people. This love translated into physical development in the Western region however, I despise him for his contributions to ethnocentric politics. He sowed the seeds of high mistrust between Ndigbo and the Yorubas. No other person has contributed to the division of Southern Nigeria than Awolowo himself.
Awolowo would've sealed the unity between Ndigbo and the Yoruba by co-operating more with Igbo politicians afterall, Ndigbo share a lot more with the Yorubas than the core North but, he NEVER did this instead, engaged in ethnocentric politics which caused major divisions in ideologies between him and Zik. A chance manifested for Awolowo to unite with Ndigbo through Biafra but instead, he dealt a blow to this unity by deliberately institutionalizing a policy which saw many Eastern Nigerian (mainly Ndigbo) children starve to death. Ndigbo and the Yorubas are the most progressive ethnic groups in Africa but Awo is the main reason of the distrust and damage to the unity between the two groups.

I admire Zik for his pro-Nigeria stance. Unlike Awolowo who was very pro-yoruba and anti-Nigeria, Zik was not actually anti-Igbo but actually very pro-Nigeria to the detriment of his own people Ndigbo. It could be said that while Awolowo focused all his energy to the development of the Yoruba wellbeing, Zik did so for the development of Nigeria and not Ndigbo - and this is one of the reasons why Ndigbo hate him as a leader.

On the other hand, Bello was a despot who never saw Southern Nigeria as a region to be co-operated with but, as a region to be conquered and dominated thereby, sowing the seeds of "Born to rule" mentality that pervades the attitude of the core north to Nigeria's governance (from independence days till 2011 election period). Bello, like Awo, must be commended for his love for his people but both weren't pro-Nigeria enough as Zik was.

All in all, though Zik was hated by Ndigbo, he's the best of the trio when viewed from a Nigerian non-regional point of view. Awo would've had my vote if viewed from a regional point of view. Bello was the odd one here.

For most of you who argue against Zik's importance, you're indeed doing so from a hindsight point of view and not during Zik's heydays in politics. If Nigeria had worked-out as a country in development of its infrastructure, people and a homogeneous culture then I've got no doubt that Zik would've occupied the status of a demigod.
although my brother this does not relate to the topic but i NEVER THOUGHT you as well can be lying like dede1 and co

ok

1. Awolowo fought tooth and nail for southern nigeria, It was zik that fought for 1 Nigeria which I love now

2. Awolowo called Zik to form southern Nigeria but Zik instead betrayed awolowo and imprisoned him, then formed a unity government with us of which he was the president in spit of awolowo and his region and Bellow was the PM

3. Zik made unrest in the western region and SE soliders were beating and arresting the SW leaders,

http://www.itnsource.com/shotlist//ITN/1962/11/13/FS131162001/?s=nigeria+&st=0&pn=35&sortBy=date

you can use that video to comfime while the SE professionals were working in suit in lagos as if it is there land

4. Zik divided the west to west and mid-west which marked the beginning of the division of southern nigeria and Nigeria at large

ZIK IS THE CAUSE OF OUR PROBLEM TODAY IN NIGERIA, NORTHERN NIGERIA AND SOUTHERN NIGERIA

ZIK IS THE PROBLEM OF HE WEST, EAST, AND NORTH

ZIK MARKED THE BEGINNING OF BETRAYAL IN NIGERIA

SHAGARI AND NORTHERN LEADERS KNEW THIS AND CALLED HIM A HARLOT BEFORE HE DIE

AWOLOWO KNEW HE WAS WORKING FOR THE BRITISH AND TRIED TALKING TO HIM, INSTEAD HE IMPRISONED HIM AND THE MID-WEST LEADER THUS ALSO DIVIDING THERE REGION KNOWING FULL WELL OF WHAT HE IS DOING

Dem-people Zik of onitsha is better or better still Zik of eastern Nigeria NOT AFRICA

stay blessed my brother

Politics › Ojukwu's Brother And Son Fights For His Ikoyi Property by aljharem3(op): 7:37am On Aug 10, 2011
The drama over the properties of the Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu is getting interesting by the day as the Movement for the Actualization for the Sovereign State of Biafra ( MASSOB),  and the Ikemba's half brother, Lota Ojukwu have joined in the fray.

Ojukwu
had been down with a massive stroke for quite a  while. He is currently in the intensive care unit of a London Hospital.

Pointblanknews.com learnt that last Thursday , Lota stormed the 29 Oyinkan Abayomi Drive ( Queens Drive),  property of the Ikemba with thugs, broke down the gate, beat up and chase away the security men, and took over the place.

His move , it was learnt was to preempt the ailing war lord's eldest son , Sylvester from taking  over the property.

When Sylvester got wind of the invasion, he contacted some of his friends in the police, and some low ranking soldiers. But the attempt by these uniformed men to dislodge Lota's thugs was futile. It became a stand off.

Pointblanknews.com learnt that few hours later, MASSOB arrived. It was however not clear if they were invited by Sylvester.

After a brief stand off, the Lota thugs were chased out, their boss scaled the fence to avoid the wrath of the MASSOB boys

Last month, two of his sons, Sylvester and Chwulwuemeka Jnr approached a Lagos High Court for an exparte motion in connection with their father's properties in Ikoyi, Lagos and Enugu.

The claimants listed in suit NO: LD/794/2011 before Justice O.A Adefope Okojie, are Ogbonna Ojukwu, Chief Debe Odumegwu Ojukwu, and Silver Convention Nigeria Limited.

The defendants are Ojukwu Transport, Professor Joseph Ojukwu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Engineer Emmanuel Ojukwu , Lotanna Ojukwu, and Massey Udegbe.

Justice Adefope- Okojie after listening to counsel to the claimants, Kayode Ayorinde, made an order for substituted service on Prof Ojukwu, the Ikemba and Emmanuel Ojukwu at No 26, Park Avenue , GRA Enugu, No 7 Forest Crescent, GRA Enugu and No 24 Isiuzo Stree, Independence Layout.

djustice:
To the poster who asked if Fashola and Tinubu are bastards for appointing an Igbo Commissioner in Lagos State: Yes. They are ignorant baboons and bastards of the worst kind.

I know Fashola had no hand in it. He was appointed because he had been washing money for "Tinubu" while working at a bank. The truth is, Ojuyobo appointed him to spite indigenous Lagosians, since his Iragbiji origin has been discovered, despite his valiant attempts to hide it. We now know that the name he bears belongs to a WOMAN who attended Chicago State University. That's why you have never heard the full version of the "Bola" in his name. Is it Bolanle, or Olubola, or Adebola, or Boladale, or Abimbola? Which important Yoruba person bears the short form of their name OFFICIALLYhuh

Fashola simply went along because he's a boy-boy of the super gangster, Yekini Amoda Ogunlere, alias Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

To the Ibos and other ethnic minorities agitating to become governor of Lagos State, I say this: Remember the events leading up to the civil war? It was this same boastful and arrogant behaviour after the January 1966 coup that led to the intense HATE that Northerners in general and Hausa/Fulanis in particular harboured for you people and ultimately led to the genocide later that year that eventually led to the civil war in which 3 million of your people were slaughtered needlessly. Your refusal to learn from your own tragic recent history will be your undoing. Continue underestimating indigenous Lagosians. We will eventually have to teach you people a final lesson in how not to be ingrates and disagreeable guests in another man's land.

The first step has already started.

A gradual boycott of Igbo businesses by indigenous Lagosians has already begun. It will spread to other Yoruba groups resident in Lagos. We don't need much motivation for this boycott, since all you people sell are fake and sub-standard goods anyway. It will continue to VERY STRINGENT terms for rental of property to Ibo people, and then outright refusal to rent to you, then refusal to SELL land to Ibos. We are developing a strategy that will see Lagosians and other Yoruba property owners only leasing land and houses to you  for a maximum of 10 years. All your existing C of Os will be revoked in the public interest. It is in the public interest that Ibos do not empty out their villages to relocate to Lagos in order to realise their vain ambition to rule us.

Keep shouting. We shall see.
LOL

you see what I have been fighting against Tinubu and co

Our liberty as indigenes have been taken for granted by the mumu called tinubu

well I do not support any extreme measures but I just want my other yoruba brothers to see how yawa go gas in lagos very very soon

Politics › Mko Abiola: Some Yoruba Leaders Were Bribed – Gani Adams by aljharem3(op): 10:39am On Aug 09, 2011
By DAPO AKINREFON

OTUNBA Gani Adams is the National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC. Adams, who was in the forefront of the June 12 struggle in this interview, alludes to the insinuations of former Chief Security Officer to late General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Mustapha that some prominent Yoruba leaders were compromised to keep the Southwest quiet after the death of Chief MKO Abiola. He asserts that the development led to the factationlisation of the OPC. Excerpts:

What do you make of the allegations made by former Chief Security Officer to late General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Mustapha that Chief Bola Ige and Pa Abraham Adesanya, among others were bribed by General Abdulsalami Abubakar to douse tension in the Southwest after the death of Chief MKO Abiola?

I will not to cast aspersion on late Pa Adesanya, Chief Bola Ige and other Yoruba leaders but what we heard then was that Abdulsalami induced some Yoruba leaders with money. That was why they played down the restiveness and the struggle after the death of Abiola. That was what we heard. I don’t have the opportunity to expatiate on the exact amount of money given to them.

As one of those in the struggle and one who was close to some NADECO chieftains including Dr Fredrick Fasehun, we know that something like that happened. If you recall, the issue led to the splitting of the OPC into two because our faction made it known that we were not going to get involved in politics, but Dr Fasehun systematically subscribed to assist the politicians even though he was not contesting.

Splitting of OPC

That led to the splitting of the OPC into two. About 97 % of us in the OPC then said we were not joining politics. That was what led to the crisis within the OPC. I cannot easily forget what led to the crisis of OPC and that was why I said the allegation that some South west leaders collected money is actually true.

Can you mention their names?
I cannot mention names but we know certain monies were given to prominent Yoruba leaders.

Were you approached to be given any money at that time?

No, I was not up to that stage (become prominent) by then. I gained prominence after I was appointed as the leader of OPC; I was one of those who coordinated the protest then. During this period, I was not a leader. I was one of those who started the June 12 protest of 1995 and 1998 in the OPC especially in Lagos. I had information at my disposal then that indeed, some people collected money. You can see how secrets are being revealed.

I believe that Mustapha (has) records of leaders that came to the Villa because he was the Chief Security Officer of Abacha and at the same time, he knew many things before his arrest. I will not doubt Mustapha’s revelations and issues like this must not be swept under the carpet.

There is need to sanitize out system and not only the Southwest alone. If we keep quiet on issues like this, at the end of the day, we will witness many gruesome murders. The Dele Giwa and Abiola issues are still there unresolved.

If we think Mustapha is targeting the South west alone, we are mistaken. Those involved in the act have their integrity at stake; but the truth has to be told.

But do you believe that late Pa Abraham Adesanya and Chief Bola Ige actually collected money?

Let me tell you, those were the two respected Yoruba leaders we had at that time; I am not saying whether they collected money or not, but I know some Yoruba leaders collected money.

With all this revelation, don’t you think it will have a negative effect on the South west?
No. It will even give a signal of caution to anyone who becomes a leader. No matter how smart or cunning you are, one day, your secrets will be exposed.

Even during and after the June 12 struggle, we have some Yoruba leaders who have not betrayed the race. I just know that after darkness comes light. Those aspiring to become future leaders should be careful because no secret will be hidden for ever. And so, the revelations made by Mustapha goes beyond Yoruba land, it is a signal to everybody in this country. If you are given an opportunity to lead, do not betray them.

Accurate prediction

What Mustapha said happened some 13 years ago, though we got the information, we couldn’t substantiate it. Some Yoruba leaders told us that some of our leaders had sold the struggle by accepting money. Some of us did not believe that such thing happened but it actually happened in 1998.

We realized within three weeks, there were series of meetings, after then, a Pan-Yoruba congress in Ibadan after which a communiqué was issued that the Yorubas should join politics. So, those who gave us the information, predicted accurately.

Everything changed, nobody talked about Abiola’s death and the June 12 struggle; all of a sudden, the tempo of the struggle died down.

I am not happy about the whole issue. On the OPC crisis, we investigated and discovered that some leaders were indeed responsible for the split because they believed we were becoming too radical in Yoruba land. We decided not to join politics because we were betrayed owing to fact that we refused to join politics.

What is your view on the activities of the Boko Haram sect in Northern Nigeria?
Activities of the sect have not only political undertone, but religious undertone. In a situation where they have been bombing various parts of the country shows that nowhere in the country is safe. If care is not taken, they may get out of hand. So far, they have not issued any statement, unlike MEND, which is more organized in their activities.

We know what MEND was after, they wanted resource control and restructuring of the nation; unlike Boko Haram, they are yet to come out with their demands, they are not progressive.

To me, their position is sectional and I don’t believe it soothes our position in the South west because they have been killing Yorubas living in the north. The consequence of Boko Haram’s activities is that foreign investors may no longer come to Nigeria because anything that happens in Nigeria will be reflected in the international media. If care is not taken, Nigeria may be branded a terrorist nation.

Some people have been canvassing that just as the amnesty package was given to Niger Delta militants, the same should be extended to the Boko Haram sect. Do you subscribe to this?

I don’t believe the amnesty package will work for Boko Haram. Boko Haram is a religious sect; there is no ideology behind it because their crisis has religious and political undertone in it. How much will they be given compared to the funding they get from the Middle East, it is possible they might have connection with al-Qaeda. To tackle it, there is need for government to take a different approach, but to grant amnesty, it won’t work.

What is your take on the proposed six years single term for governors and president?

In my opinion, it is the best thing that can happen to our democracy. I don’t know the content of the bill. I believe that the six year term will reduce corruption in this country because a governor will not have it in mind to loot the treasury when he gets there, he will be determined to work.

It will also give room for improvement on the part of the governor; it will give more power to the party than the governor because the party will be stronger. Also, a six years term will strengthen our democracy and it will reduce corruption.
