Anyway, would I be correct if I assumed you meant polygamy as in marriage (legal/traditional) and not just extramarital affairs? You mean Nigerian men aren’t just looking to play a little game on the side once in a while, but seek to to marry multiple women?

If you meant affairs, then we are certainly not alone in this boat. The propensity for multiple partners is a human thing.

She is within her rights to refuse him any future favours whether he once offended her or not. He doesn’t owe her any goodwill neither does she.

I have not said she should have dated him when he asked 4 years ago. It’s not by force. He didn’t offer any details of their friendship (if they remained friends) after the rejection but he wrote this like she came out of the blue to ask for financial assistance. That is what ticks me off.

And there is no justification for SARS brutality.

I think you have to accept that you cannot and should not try to force goodwill out of anyone. You certainly don’t know how bad the rejection was. Was he ridiculed or turned down politely? My guess is as good as yours, knowing the penchant for savage replies among young ladies today.

Furthermore, you should ask yourself why many young ladies feel entitled to the money of men who show the slightest interest in them.

Just say hi to a babe and the next thing, you’re owing her money and other favours. In all of your nobility aren’t you fed up with that?

Some cultures have the strangest practices. Some may be so shocking as to be offensive. I think you should be aware of what you’re getting into before marrying. Marriage in Nigeria is often between families and not just between husband and wife.

I think it is a very important factor to consider especially if one person is a stickler for tradition and rites.

Women need to pay the price for false allegations. It’s becoming common for them to dig up stories of allegations that purportedly took place decades ago with nothing but their own stories as concrete evidence.

In this age where young people are brazen drug users, who can say if the use of drugs before sex was consensual or not?

I think it’s unfair and unjust to err on the side of caution and risk throwing an innocent man in jail. The price for that mistake is the ruination of an innocent life just for the sake of a form of justice which cannot right the wrong. Throwing the man in jail won’t remove the assault and throwing an innocent man in jail certainly won’t heal anything.

I wish more lawyers would be bold to brave the flood of bullies and stand for men who are bullied by judges, prosecutors and jurors who only want to appear to be politically correct, supporting women’s rights or whatever “lofty” cause.

I think the phrase “beyond reasonable doubt” should be sacrosanct in proceedings. We certainly do not need the emotional charade we have today, which often threatens to culminate in a miscarriage of justice.
