hellomosquito:Dude, these are got from research data. You need to remember that blacks are likely to be less privileged whether local born or immigrants to UK. Quality of life is very much linked economic status. Also remember that Europeans have had thousands of years to adapt to their environment. While most blacks or their ancestors arrived here under 100 years ago. Then of course the unconscious bias in a European environment where racism in diluted and coded form still reigns. It affects every aspect of life. Sure not as overt as it was 50 years ago. I do not know your age but as a kid I still remember how many women died in childbirth and a whole lots of kids died under age of 5. It was still common just 25 years ago in 9ja. So our 200m population could have been 300m by now if not for high maternal and child mortality in the past. I know of some old men growing up who said they lost 10 to 15 kids in total. Terrible things in the past. Terrible. No antibiotics. Meningitis easily kids several kids in one house. Otter infectious diseases. |
You cannot copy University of California style in a resource poor country. UCLA, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, etc. What is the purpose? To educate every Anambra Mazi and Agadi nwanyi that missed out on education long ago? ![]() Why not begin a big distance study program at an existing university so that even house wives can study most courses from home? Study centres would be far more affordable than satellite campuses. US schools have massive endowment funds. When importing foreign ideas we must fine tune them to suit our environment. |
samuk:The large Yoruba slave population made it easy for any other slaves that lost their origin to get dumped with Yoruba slaves in Lagos. Some Lagosians of today even left Sierra Leone, another major dumping ground to Lagos for opportunities. We must remember that this is just over 200 years ago. Not long ago. Before that only Benin administrative genius that got Lagos to where it was then. The fact that Yoruba were so comfortable selling themselves into slavery shows they were a bunch of divided, warring, loosely related tribes. Those that came under Benin like Eastern Yorubaland, Lagos, Ijebu and others were luckier in organisation. Oyo administrative skills that came much later was copied from Benin. But Oyo was more interested in selling slaves as it began growing in 1680s. Barely 140 years later, Fulani have already overran it. Its empire was very shortlived. Some will argue how Oyo administration was copied from Benin. They Will suddenly forget how and when Oyo chiefdom was first founded before it grew. Etinosa Gregyboy Valirex Samuk |
bolaayenimo:9ja is a total joke. Herdsmen killings, bandits, kidnappings and this man has time to celebrate. He will say he is not in charge of police. But NSCDC can help there. No fire engines, poor prisons, no passport booklets, so much on his plate as minister. As for the rigged in governor, make I nor talk. |
Etinosa1234:PHYSICSQED was my buddy here on Nairaland those years ago. I think he was a doctoral student/research fellow back then. I don't know why he stopped coming here. He suffered with me when our sophisticated people would block me for defending Benin authentic history here. As long as late Oba Oyekan and current Oba Akiolu clearly stated their Benin origin, is it commoners, upstart tribalists or those from Osun you will take seriously? ![]() If you see how they are digging deep and working round the clock to deceive people, you will know that Benin history has been perplexing them. Attaching to it by force has not worked, so they are painting it negative. It's only envy and jealousy that keeps people awake at night so much. ![]() When a child does not get what he desires so much, he will say the thing is even rubbish sef, I didn't even want it. They wanted Benin people to say we are all same people. Which in their dream would mean because of modern population politics, Benin is part of them. But even a little Benin kid is so historically aware and defiant that you cannot even try that rubbish with him or her. |
chubinwa:Some kill to sell o. They know others eat it. A big one like on this thread can sell for 8k to 15k. Even more depending on location. |
Lordswazz:Snake has always been a delicacy. Even cobra and other venomous snakes like vipers. Though many shun venomous ones. All constrictor snakes are considered easy meat. My only surprise is that I thought with greater urbanisation, less people will know how to eat snake. But it seems not to be the case. They still eat snakes found on building plots in the cities. |
SaintLucia:Lol. |
bastardson:Well a country of gra gra doesn't value gentlemen. So they chose a seasoned dictator. Now life they pepper them. Ntor! ![]() I only pity the innocent people who saw it but didn't have the numbers to stop it. |
JAMO84:Poor training and gra gra. |
Excellent. |
SpecialAdviser:Am telling you. This is the ego massage mumucious people like. |
samuk:Sam sam, they won't find any. It will be like toto hair before lazy yoot began stealing pants for ritual. So they will be bringing some supposedly old publications to obfuscate. I like the way Benin history is keeping them busy. Make dem dey butcher rotten meat. No hand to scratch body. ![]() |
Edeyoung:You are trying o. To tolerate these "agents provocateurs". If not careful they will incite you to rofo rofo in the mud with them. ![]() Anybody from SW with a recent citation index access is now an expert in history. |
Even after taking bad roads, unqualified drivers, drivers high on drink and drugs into consideration, you don't have to be a statistician or big data guru to know these: More cars on the road, more accidents. More new cars and inexperienced drivers, more accidents. Faulty cars quickly resurrected to flex Christmas, more accidents. Long distance drivers rushing to convey as many passengers as many times as possible without rest or good sleep, more accidents. Driving 500 km only once a year to the East, West, North & South, more accidents. Same for Easter usually in April. Weddings & burials accumulated over raining season take off from October to January, more travelers, more accidents. Simple. |
Simplyleo:Their people on Nairaland say Benin is a village. Yet they won't leave it alone. They are the first to call Edo people all kinds of names. Billionaire kidnapper Evans first wreaked havoc in Benin before moving to Lagos. Gregyboy ghostwon valirex Etinosa |
NaijaOlosho:Abeg make helep dem chant lifetime presidency. With extended Al-Sudani rule on top sef. We Don already tighten our belt. Na zombies dey hear win now. ![]() |
Recession Na Buhari's other name. It is one guaranteed thing alongside hardship and poverty under his regime. Whether khaki or agbada. |
Amitez:GEJ should. If only to stick one finger opolo drug baron and his zombies. ![]() I respect how the so-called less educated North know how to constantly strategise for regional domination. They only trust those that have handed over power to them before. Like they picked OBJ in 1999. They want to scheme out opolo eye who is ready to walk over the corpses of his people to Aso Rock. They know he would want 8 years. Any other Southerner would be same. Denying the South entirely would cause rancour. Suddenly GEJ looks very attractive. He should take the chance. Win or loss, no name envious nonentities will call him that they have not called him before. |
Whiteshield:Does Edo have state police? Is Kaduna not APC, state? What of kidnappings there? Rather enjoy you fossil in Aso Rock foisted by Tinubu. SW have so much trust in Buhari that they formed Amotekun. ![]() Hypocrites. |
Splitmind:Nor mind the lady. The average lady has more men eyeing her and communicating with her than the other way round. |
gregyboy:Well let's see what will happen. Things can develop at a fast pace. You saw what barely a week of endsars protest did. 9ja has very weak institutions and it will only take the police and army joining the masses and oppressors will start abandoning their ill-gotten mansions and flee abroad. I won't bet on 9ja surviving intact as things are going. |
valirex:Guys, make una nor just worry una sef. The many publications I saw like 15 to 20 years ago in academic journals, about Benin Empire and Yoruba states, I regret not saving them. I never knew such arguments like these would ever come up. When I had cause to do work on ethics, philosophy and religion. I really explored humanities publications from across the world. Because ordinarily I would be busy with scientific publications. The new Royal Museum (Edo Museum of West African Art/EMOWA) in Benin, in conjunction with British Museum in pipeline will bring many historical discussions over time. https://blog.britishmuseum.org/major-new-archaeology-project-on-site-of-new-museum-in-benin/#:~:text=The%20new%20archaeological%20project%20is,the%20world%20of%20Benin%20Bronzes. It's also on BBC webpage. |
otokx:And Chinese are making 6G stuff, going to space and we dey beg them for loan and engineers to do our railway. People will attempt the mega churches and later kidnap, Rob and do money ritual. 9ja Na funny place o. ![]() |
Davoneskay:Pure lie. Whitney was long into substance abuse. People knew her long term drug suppliers in New York/New Jersey axis long before Bobby Brown came into the picture. It only made it easy for her to get close to Bobby. At the time we wondered why Whitney would be dating a guy way below her pedigree. Now we know drug was their commonality. RIP. |
MrBachelor:When we warned people about Buhari in 2015, they called us tanoids, ogogoro drinkers, clueless, Ipob yoot. ![]() I told them that Tunde Idiagbon that did some useful things under Buhari military regime will not be there now. But dem nor hear. ![]() |
ValCon888:It's hereditary. Because only descendants of the ruling houses or families can become Ooni. What you mean is it's not by male primogeniture (first son). Benin Kingship is by primogeniture. A future king is known from birth. This new born boy may never be Ooni though but he would be as qualified as any other prince. Congratulations are in order. |
pazienza:We go see Na. Make we dey look. Nor be where peace dey dem dey go offshore? ![]() |
Splitmind:OK. When oil stops flowing we go see Na. Una go dey fry sand in Sokoto. ![]() |
Jungle. |
satelliteDISH:No mind that person. I just saw it now. Many innocent people are in prison like that. These day no carrying load for people, no offense. I won't tell anyone to carry for me either. |
