Mods. Be careful what you push to FP. |
juman:Govt data is probably not as reliable as it should be but if huge number of people were going down with respiratory problems way more than usual, doctors and even ordinary people would have noticed. Things have worked in our favour so far. Long may it last. |
juman:Question what percentage of population are over 70? Highest death rates is among old people in nursing homes in Europe. Typically over 80 years old. In nursing homes old people with dementia and other old age illness live together and Covid-19 spreads easily and deadly. So although it affects many people over 70, the upper ages are by far the most affected. In 9ja nanny people 60 years old can look much older due to poverty. Just have a look at graphs showing ages of victims from UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain. USA appears to have younger people say from 60 due high level of obesity in US. Obesity is a big risk factor. Alongside diabetes, heart disease, etc. Remember too that if Nigerians could travel visa free to America, Europe, China and such places, Covid-19 would have come into Nigeria from maybe 10 times more infected people arriving before we even realised it in March. Our relative travel restrictions helped us. The more people infected, the more the chances of reaching more old folks. You must put all factors together, though age and co-morbidities seem to play a big part in severity. In cold countries people spend more time indoors, allowing infection spread. Bear in mind that winter flu, a common relative of Covid-19 already kills tens of thousands every winter in the west despite people over 50 or with chronic diseases being advised to take winter flu vaccine annually. Many take and many don't. Flu virus is so clever that a new vaccine must be made every year. Covid-19 could become a deadlier flu virus that needs a new vaccine every year. . My epistle is to let us focus on the science of it. |
juman:Dude, try understand Covid-19 a bit better. Africa has a young population. Even in the West, a lot of young people catch it without ever knowing. Nigeria has life expectancy of about 52 years. Basically add up the ages of people who died and divide by the number of deaths say within a year. Very low compared internationally. In countries where Covid-19 is killing many, most who die are over 75 years old. Of course death rate gradually increases from about 50/55. As illnesses gradually affect people more with increasing age. More illnesses increase Covid-19 severity and death risk. If Nigeria had life expectancy of even 70 years (more old people around), deaths would be far more. Early lock down helped too. in the first wave. With the second wave in many countries and airports and borders still open, with our lax and corrupt system, some people might dodge covid-19 test and enter Nigeria. A second wave should be expected. Hopefully very modest. |
lexy2014:I don't like many Trump policies but the guy did what he said he would do during campaign, that he was elected on. He alienated African-Americans when a middle way or moderate position would have suffice. He fought just about everyone when silence would have buried some issues naturally. He could have been more cautious and statesman like on many occasions but he wasn't. The Jerusalem move wasn't necessary so close to election year. Basic caution during Covid-19 relying on science on his part would have mitigated his failure in handling it. If he loses, he would have just thrown it away because he had a massive chance to win. Biden has nothing to offer. People are voting for him for return to moderate politics that is neither here nor there. Voting against Trump basically. I prefer people to complete their 8 years in office before we take stock. |
DenreleDave: Wuhan is the tourist rave of the moment. You spread Covid-19 to the world, then you ban people. At times I almost support Trump bashing of China. I nor blame them. |
NORSIYK:Try to understand things first. In those states, republicans are even chair of election boards. They feel insulted by Trump's claims. Trump told his supporters not to vote by mail so the vast majority voted in person. Biden encouraged his supporters to vote by any means they can. He encouraged young people to vote by post if they must. They typically younger and better educated people who may not go in person due to work. No election holiday there. In person votes are counted partly with machines and counted first in most places. Whereas postal vote envelopes are opened one by one by hand. Clearly, according to surveys the postal votes being counted later are from about 75% by democrats in most places. You cannot discourage your supporters from postal votes and then complain that postal vote count is not favouring you. You just had far fewer people voting for you by post. |
Barryseal:He is doing Sherlock Holmes in Lekki o. Let him be. ![]() |
Police, you can always invite your military colleagues and wait for Sanwo-Olu's order to mow protesters down, then prevent emergency care services from gaining access and quickly remove corpses to a secrete location or mass bury them. The MO is standard by now, Abi? Your comeuppance is ahead of you. |
Afam, the long and short is that over time people develop their own identity. Wherever they came from originally is history. Urhobo, Isoko, Esan, Afemai and many more know when they left Benin Area. All roughly between 700 and 500 years ago. Nobody is forcing Beniness down their throat. When you too enthusiastically want to dictate people's identity to them, they are bound to be suspicious about the motives. |
Make we nor jubilate too soon. Baby steps but at least it shows states can begin doing their own thing as FG never ready. |
odhus:Trump reflects many of our people : rude, misogynistic, thoroughly bigoted, love oppressors and unnecessary agro and fight. |
Big loss to the Palace. |
Who is promoting this useful eediot who wants to trend? The world has already forgotten the fat ass cry baby called Desmond Elliot. Until constituency project and other stolen money go choke them. |
favor914:I do not want any blood money. I know close people eating Bubu govt. If I was like them I should be praising Bubu or join them. There are still people with integrity in 9ja or at least of 9ja descent. By the way many of us are shaped by life in decent societies. Places where things work and we yearn for 9ja to become such a place. A system that works for everyone. Where we do not have to meet big men or become sycophants of big men to make a decent living. |
Nwodosis:So are you saying Bubu is Mr. Insecurity himself? ![]() Chai! Bubu don suffer. At times better to go dey play with your grandkids in old age than become an object of ridicule. |
Condolences to the mum and RIP to the departed. |
oluwaseyi0:No mind the guy. Seeing El Rufai next to him already rubbishes the whole gist. El Rufai use people like him to famzy Southerners and deceive people for his presidential ambition. Even if Fayemi became president and wanted proper devolution, he won't have the liver to do it. He won't dare because of the North. El Rufai wants people around him making the right noises. He will later go and use BBC Hausa service to tell his people the real gist. ![]() |
Nazgul:It means they tested for Covid-19 to find presence of its genetic material in small cotton ball at the end of a small plastic stick (swab). The stick is used to rub the tonsils inside the mouth and then inside the nostril. Covid-19 so detected is likely to be due to a recent infection and may be active. Needing quarantine/isolation. Whereas antibody test would normally be by blood test. Likely to be detected due to a previous exposure which may not be active anymore. It depends. Someone testing positive for antibody may even have some immunity. Though how strong/effective or for how long the immunity is is yet unknown. |
Gerrard59:Unless going to invest in those places, the peacefulness he meant won't feed anybody. Not a place you can make a good living as teacher or average professional. Rwanda is currently peaceful and making progress too. |
babakb:A big price for what is uncertain. & 150k minimum investment. That's not what and average person in most countries can afford. Let alone a 9ja person. Anybody with such free cash would have several other options. |
OK nice. |
babakb:Free visa is not a guaranteed thing. It can change at anytime. Jamaica used to be visa free to UK. Not anymore. The West is aware of all this passport by investment. Allison Madueke case with Dominica highlighted the matter. The West will react in due course. |
Desmond Elliot is a typical Nigerian. He is now privileged and rolling with his role models who are even bigger looters. Ordinary people are not relevant again. He wan do eye service for his oga dem. Devil bend his mouth. |
So this bleaching olosho mofo demented by expired sperms of many old godfathers still open her kpekpeye mouth dey talk. Idiot. |
This caveman IGP is as dumb as he looks. |
Igboid:Lol. Does Degema in Rivers for example have a direct boundary with Edo? Does it stop it from being Edoid? ![]() So you were in Ekpeye 400 years ago to know precisely the language they spoke then? Oral stories that fit into your tribal prism are genuine but others are fabricated. Wehdon o. |
OvisFranko:Bayelsa has three Edoid groups: Ofoni/Urhobo, Epie-Atissa & Ekpeye, Urhobo & E-A are Edoid languages philologically and ethnically, Ekpeye are Edoid by race. Even though many erroneously call Ekpeye Igboid. Fact is some people do not speak the language of their original ethnicity anymore. Due to proximity to & mixing with bigger tribes. OP seems not to appreciate the meaning of homogeneity. |
desiredhome:Which schools did you attend? At least you need a certain level of smartness to go to top schools. How many jobs have you ever created? You need ideas and commitment to create jobs. Certain professions need rounded and well educated people, What is your profession? What have you contributed to the body of knowledge in any discipline? You have to be inspired and innovative to do so. I challenge you to put them here. Let's see who is olodo? Don't think this is an anonymous forum. Many people here on NL know here in real life. Too many jobless kids on this forum. Go through my posts since 2011 here on NL. |
desiredhome:May you plant and others use their cows to destroy it, maim and kill you on top. This the prayer I will pray for you. |
obicmag:I wonder, Did he buy the palliative with his own salary? Is it birthday cake? So people can starve to death until his birthday? |
So these Mofos don't want to learn? They think gainfully employed and well paid youth in a country governed by fair, sane and true servants of the people will have time to riot and loot common rice? Well, nor be make Nigeria end many people dey now? Kikikiki. Una dey fear abi. Continue looting and impunity. The quickest way to end Nigeria. Desmond Elliot is a fool. Proof that once the youth start looting with the old cargoes, they are just as bad. |
