Exactly what i was thinking, Anambra is on the route to becoming a city state. Like Singapore and Hong Kong.

Even Tokyo used to be a small settlement but today it has merged with all the cities around it to become one.

I agree with you. That of Anambra is obvious and imminent.

It is also very important to develop a strategic vision and plan for this; there should be a grand master plan for this inevitable expansion. The state government should leverage on the Land Use Act to decide which areas of the state that should be classified as strategic reserves. This should be done without fear or favour in order to minimize the tendency for future demolitions and compensations.

Kudos to the people of Obosi. Onitsha don full, it's the turn of obosi to regain her position as the second largest city or if possible the largest city in Anambra.
Mehn I just love these healthy competition. Oba, Nkpor and Okija will still launch something big after or before they finish this. Nobody wan carry last for Anambra

You are most likely to see the emergence of ANAMBRA MEGA CITY from Anambra state. The current towns in the LGA areas of Onitsha, Awka, Ogbaru, Oyi, Anambra, Ekwusigo, Dunukofia, Njikoka, Idemili, Anaocha and Nnewi North would become the epicentre of the sprawling metropolis. These would gradually spill over to Aguata, Nnewi south and Orumba.

The coming hurricane is so big that Obosi would just be a part of the mega city like the other towns as we know them today.

How do people see renovation as achievement, I saw current state of the airport, it still has some patches and scaffles showing clearly well that they just opened uncompleted project just to score cheap political goal
This has to do with the pressure from South Easterners to reopen the airport. With flights capable of landing in the night and the new runway, users of the airport are happy to start using the facility while work continues on other areas.

the truth fact is rehabilitation is still going on in enugu airport only the run way is completed. The airport is yet to receive night landing equipment, even the departure and arrival lounge is yet to be completed

INSTRUMENT LANDING SYSTEM (ILS) was one of the early upgrades given to the airport months ago. Flights can now be guided to land perfectly in the night and day.

Op is not direct , stop the deception. It is to onne terminal before being loaded in smaller batches to onitsha as being done from Apapa port to Ikorodu . Same way it will be loaded to Lokoja Port, Shiroro Port in the North.

The bottom line is that the consignments would berth at Onitsha port by marine transportation, neither by road nor tracks.

The idea of being successful in Nigeria is still to a large extent based on grand physical appearance. This however comes with metabolic problems such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar and the consequent kidney problems. To maintain a strict diet comes with discipline because those delicious dishes "the big men" likes are too tempting for some of them to resist. Their skin glows while the immune system suffers. This situation makes them attractive to Corona Virus.

I guess their intention is to undermine the law graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria. But for how long? Online and digital mode of teaching is the future of education. All the top universities and colleges around the world have embraced online teaching. Then you start to wonder why a country like Nigeria whose universities rarely makes world ranking, a country whose universities' certificates are looked upon with disdain, and often times are not even recognized outside Nigeria, is making all these noises.

There is nothing like personal view in a judgement. It is the opinion of the majority of the judges that is expressed in a judgement.

Why would the Supreme Court direct the parties involved to go back to high court if they have concluded the matter as you are insinuating here? Is that personal opinion too? Is the Supreme Court playing games with people? Pls tell us why they would do that.

You are the one who is not making sense here because you're simply saying that supreme court likes creating confusion.

The recent high court judgement says that Abba people are starting land issue afresh but that is not what Abba is asking of the court. Abba is addressing the issue of missing records as directed by the Supreme court. I have said all these things before.

Abba is appealing the judgement so there is no need for destruction until everything is over. Arthur should allow the court to have the final say. This issue has shown me that Arthur is a very insincere person.

I don't have problem with ukpo people so i don't have any reason to insult them the way you did to Abba people. I don't hate them. Besides, Ukpo blood runs in my viens. My grandma is from there. ( oranto).

Im not against alternative solution but it should be based on truth, not lies.

"The ruling of the Supreme Court is final and its finality is unchallengeable...No matter under any guise such an issue was brought to the court, no court in the country would entertain or rehear it"

Citing some sections of the constitution in relation to the finality of a Supreme Court judgement in a matter, Justice Anyachebelu said that the matter ended as stated by the Apex court's judgement of 15th February, 2019.

He said, "The judgment of the Supreme Court on the consolidated matter before the Supreme Court on the 15th February 2019 dealt extensively on the issues in the Ukpo/Abba community case, which forms part of the issues in the motion before me.

" I have exhaustively looked at the issues canvassed by the applicants and I am of the view that after the Supreme Court judgement, all issues relating to the Ukpo/Abba case are contained in the consolidated suit and are laid to rest "-JUSTICE ANYACHEBELU-NENI HIGH COURT.

It may well be you know the law more than this judge. This sort of stubbornness in the face of ignorance would not take you people anywhere in this case. I have suggested ADR which i believe something better than nothing would come out of it. Social media emotions would lead to a dead end. My last comment.
Crime / Re: Pius Nweke Arrested For Having Unlicensed Guns by AyakaDunukofia: 4:40pm On Jun 06, 2020

The Supreme Court judgement is final and they have directed the parties involved to go back to the high court to address the issue of the missing records.

The recent high court ruling has nothing to do with what Abba people are asking for and what the supreme court asked the parties to go and do. It was in error. The judgement says that Abba people are trying to start the issue of land dispute afresh, but that was not what the Supreme Court asked the parties to sort out at the high court.

Abba people did not start the case afresh at all. Abba people are asking the court to sort out the mess created by the missing records. They are doing what the Supreme Court told the parties involved to go and do.

The court judgement obtiained by ukpo remains VITIATED AND INVALID, as the Supreme Court says, until the issue of the missing records are sorted out.

Why are Arthur Eze and his gang destroying properties in Abba when there is a restraining order and a chance for appeal.
Tell me if that is not wickedness, and you seem to enjoy it. Arthur should allow the Court to have the final say.
He chose the use of force because of desperation and greed. He believes he can pull it off in a lawless country like Nigeria.

The truth is that whenever the case gets to the Supreme Court, the SC will tell the parties involved to go and do what they asked them to go and do because what they said was not ambiguous at all. Just watch and see. God is watching.

So far, you have not been able to show how the Supreme Court gave you land and at the same time refer the parties involved back to the high court. Are they MAD? according to you, yes.

The "vitiated and invalid" as per Justice Galumje was a personal view. It was an obiter dictum which is not enforceable in law and that is why a judge of the High court refused Abba's latest round of contention. Otherwise an inferior court such as the High court visaviz the Supreme court, has no right to neglect the so called "vitiated and invalid" if it was a legally binding decision; stare decis.

My advice is for Abba to consider "alternative dispute resolution" instead of the current public ridicule.

What do you gain from telling lies?. Pls quote for me where the Supreme Court says that the land belongs to Ukpo.

The Supreme Court judgement is clear. It's not ambiguous.
The Supreme Court VITIATED and rendered the judgement of the lower courts INVALID due to the missing records in the case. The two Words( VITIATED AND INVALID) were used in the judgement.

Consequently, the Supreme Court directed the the parties involved in the case to go back to the high court to sort out the mess caused by the missing records.

Is the supreme court stupid? Why would they send the matter back to the trial court if they have given the land to ukpo people.
Are you saying that the Supreme Court is insane or what? I don't understand.

As for the history of Abba people, you are not in the position to tell them their history. You can't prove that what you're saying is true because you have no evidence to support your claim. Your are just indulging in mere assertions.

I don't understand why you and Arthur Eze love injustice.
Taking people's properties by force is a mortal sin.
Arthur Eze is a desperate man. That's why he is desperately trying to use every corrupt institution in Nigeria especially the nigerian police force to force Abba people to submit their inheritance to him.

I would like to note that not everyone from Ukpo is in support of what Arthur Eze is doing. Many are against it.

God of justice is here, He is watching.

THIS CASE HAS BEEN SETTLED PERMANENTLY, AND CANNOT BE REOPENED. THE HIGH COURT JUDGE HAS TOLD ABBA COMMUNITY THAT THE EARLIER RULINGS OF NWAZOTA AND THE APPEAL COURT, IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCE, HAVE FORMED THE PERMANENT LEGAL STATUS OF THE LAND. THIS IS EQUALLY THE REASONING OF THE SUPREME COURT. LIKE I SAID, THIS DANCE OF SHAME MUST STOP.

Anambra Court Rejects Motion By Abba Community Over Land Dispute
By OUR CORRESPONDENTWed, May 20, 2020

Justice Onochie Anyachebelu
The kinsmen of celebrated novelist, Chimamanda Adichie, on Tuesday lost a motion to amend an application in a land dispute between Abba community and Ukpo community both in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Adichie and his Abba people had at various times claimed that Chief Arthur Eze, an oil magnate from Ukpo, was masterminding the takeover of their land, noting that the disputed land had long being decided at the Supreme Court prompting re-filling of the suit at Anambra State High Court sitting in Neni, Anaocha Local Government Headquarters.

When the suit pending before Justice Onyinye Anumonye was mention in Neni on Tuesday, the court turned down the motion by Abba people seeking court’s order for the representation of some of her indigenes as plaintiffs in the pending matter.

The court stated the Supreme Court judgment on the matter on 15th of February 2019 had settled the order being sought in the matter and therefore stated that it could not be revisited in any guise.

The court described the Supreme Court judgement on the matter as "final and cannot be visited or re-heard by any court in the country".

"The ruling of the Supreme Court is final and its finality is unchallengeable,’’ he said.

He said no matter under any guise such an issue was brought to the court, no court in the country would entertain or rehear.

Citing some sections of the constitution in relation to the finality of a Supreme Court judgement in a matter, the judge said that the matter ended as stated by the Apex court's judgement of 15th February, 2019.

He said, "The judgment of the Supreme Court on the consolidated matter before the Supreme Court on the 15th February 2019 dealt extensively on the issues in the Ukpo/Abba community case, which forms part of the issues in the motion before me.

" I have exhaustively looked at the issues canvassed by the applicants and I am of the view that after the Supreme Court judgement, all issues relating to the Ukpo/Abba case are contained in the consolidated suit and are laid to rest .

An indigene of Abba community who simply gave his name as Alex told reporters on telephone that the community was considering to appeal against the high court ruling.

THE CASE OF POSSESSION OF FIREARM MAYBE A SETUP ..... THIS IS NIGERIA WHERE THE RICH OPPRESS THE POOR AND THE GOVERNMENT SAY NOTHING BECAUSE OF GODFATHERISM

So your only evidence that Abba owned the land was your unschooled memory of your mum farming at 'Agu Abba'? As a young man, you should have known the history of your maternal homestead. Abba town came into existence as a result of the benevolence of Umu Dunukofia to a guest palm wine tapper invited by them. So the palm wine tapper's descendants want now to usurp the land of their host.

The Abba history was brought out naked before Justice Obiorah Nwazota of Enugu High Court in 1999, after which the land in question was ruled in favour of Ukpo. Abba was again defeated at the appeal court and again at the Supreme court.

I just can't understand why your mother's people love to be shamed.

If there should be any dispute about this, it should be whether the town in question is within the capital territory.

You keep parroting Common Law just exposing your ignorance of what it means

Native law in Nigeria is part of Nigerian Common law
Common law simply refers to judgments that have been made .
So for example it has been established in the courts that in Yorubaland under Native Law wives cannot inherit property of husbands who die intestate.particularly land
Once that precedent is established it becomes "common law"

Refer to your earlier questions and misgivings. I am happy you now have a little idea of what is CL after having schooled you. After disparaging the presence of CL in the Nigerian legal system. Learning by tricks won't help you. Such a primitive mind. Idioots everywhere. Ugly Yoruba man.

omonnakoda:

First let us agree that it has nothing to do with Common law

Second you are assuming that FREEHOLD as you conceive it exists in Nigerian law. It is an abstract legal concept

What is its statutory or constitutional underpinning in Nigeria

If you "buy" land held under native law. You are merely leasing it from those who hold it in Trust for their bloodline
They cannot sell what they don't own. They are merely caretakers of the land no matter what the conveyance deed says.
You are just another caretaker for their descendants, omoonile or autochthons.
If you convert your title to a Cof O you become a tenant of the state government for 99 years.
By the time the legal argument takes place none of the actors would be around

No. The Common Law underpins the main body of the Nigerian legal system, viz, the criminal law, law of evidence, tort law, commercial law, public law etc. These laws operate within the principles of the Common Law.

Your favourite, the Customary law, is an indigenous system by its provisions, but however operates within the frame work of the main legal system of the country which is the CL. For example, the Nigerian constitution did not create any other superior court to entertain a highly disputed land case other than the usual High courts, Appeal courts and the Supreme court.

Again, native law does not forbid the concept of freehold just as it does not forbid leasehold. Regardless of the Land Use Act 1978, show me anywhere such is forbidden in the statute books?

I repeat, any land-owning family or their heirs has the legal right to do what pleases them with their land.

If I have Shola as a friend and he wishes to settle in my village in Anambra and wants a land. And he requests that the land be made freehold. And the family agrees, there is no law that forbids my family not to honour his request in a contract.

And once done, it is permanently his land, especially when a consideration is involved. This is where the freedom of contract or the Common Law comes in amidst customary law.
