This is Nigeria, the country with the highest number of awaiting trial inmates in the entire world. There are literally thousands of people in police cells waiting for their day in court. In some cases they have been waiting for trial longer than the maximum period of time they would have been sentenced to for the crime they were accused of. Ideally the young man should have been arraigned in court within 48 hrs and granted bail, but there are no doubt many innocent people languishing in jails across this country who never threatened anybody. I find it difficult to feel sorry for him. If he had harmed the lecturer maybe you and I would be saying rest in peace now or sending wishes to the man's family.

Yes EFCC is a security agency and a law enforcement agency. They are allowed by law to arrest suspects and to have cells to keep them.

NDLEA was set up to go after producers, sellers and traffickers of hard drugs. A case like this is actually meant for the police, assuming there's really any evidence.

These people are expected to provide security but States have security votes sent to Governors every year.

How do you explain to a non-Nigerian that the IGP of police earn about N10 million/annum after about 3 decades in service but a lawmaker goes home with upward of N200 million/annum?

Police recruits are not yet employees they are trainees. The money they get is an allowance or stipend not a salary.

No need to ban those activities as long as it's not illegal, the warnings should be enough. There's no way to protect a person determined to lose money from his own foolishness. I just hope the people doing these businesses on nairaland are paying for the privilege to do so cos there's no free lunch anywhere.

And hope you know that without 'kaadi igbeayo', no free health for the mother and child.

My brother the man has tried, it's real. Ondo state is the only state in the federation where women and children can get access to 100% free healthcare at all levels. And not only at the mother and child hospital but at all government hospitals. Even Caesarian section operations that cost hundreds of thousands of naira are all free. In fact the reason they need the card is because some women were coming from other states to enjoy free health services in Ondo state. I don't know much about other areas but I work in healthcare and I can say he has made a big difference. As a matter of fact Ondo state is now a UN certified healthcare model for other developing areas in the world.
