There’s someone on this platform that’s making a loss of over N100m because govt has marked 2 of his buildings for demolition.

Before you ask if he didn’t secure govt approval? He and many other affected persons did but that didn’t stop the demolition. In fact, a building belonging to a commissioner in one of the south east state was demolished. They went to court; got injunction to stop the demolition but like LASG is denying Lekki massacre right now, the same way they denied involvement at first.

I’ll encourage most people in diasporas to be careful of Lagos lands even estates. This project is inside one of the popular estate in Lagos.
The news was carried by lindaikeji and instablog but at the end “Nothing happened.”

I was privileged to see the man who led the demolition in Alausa and he boasted and told the affected persons “Nothing will happen.”

Unless you’re buying government scheme in Lagos, anything can happen despite your approvals.

The fourth mainland bridge project will affect a lot of old houses in Badore/Langbasa area and again “Nothing will happen.”

This is what gets me sometimes in Nigeria. Government will approve a building plan, then turn around and demolish the structure as an illegal structure even though they were the ones that approved it.

Very shameful indeed... all this approval etc.. they just care about the money not necessarily about the plan itself.. money money money.

How many states, cities,, LGA have a masterplan? A blueprint?

In a sane environment when approvals are granted , one of the things they look at is making sure the intended build conforms with the masterplan for the area.

Granted someone could still approach the city, county to rezone the area (adjust the blueprint) to accommodate their build.. the city will schedule a town hall / public hearing to give people chance to voice their opinions, then city and county will approve or disapprove as the case might be.

But in 9jiria, Government will approve, then few years later knock it down as an illegal structure? Thats heartless. In a sane environment, this will be a big beautiful lawsuit, a walk in the park lawsuit with a big beautiful jury verdict.

please I need advice from all parents and Educators and parents on Nairanland. today I just realized my 3years old son cant even read Letters A to F talk less of A to Z but can read Figure 1 to 10, I am seriously worried.

I don't stay at home except for weekends as I am working outside my state, but due to the curfew I find my way back home yesterday so I was able to discover this problem in the early hours of today.

I know the mother is trying cos I have seen different live videos where she was teaching him and working on his assignment, most times I pity the boy so much because of the beating from his mum alone makes me sick but I can't really complain since I know is for his own good and I know how stressful it is for a mother with 2 kids to manage her time and all that....

I called his teacher immediately and she told me my son will be going to Nursery class when the present term is over due to his age, sadly she didn't say things I expect to hear from her so I told her I will visit the school once the curfew is over, I need explanation, is private school that bad these days ? my son can't even write 2 and 3

I have bought Video CD, bought many play book materials containing letters and figures displayed boldly, I bought counting and so on when he was 2 years so i expect a better result by now.

pls sir and ma, I need help on how to guide this boy to learn better, what should I do and how should I go about it.

Note: any time I am home, I always go through his books, assignments and read his school rhymes for him.

Not to be a bearer of bad news to you and it is sad Nigerian medical system is very poor that the doctors couldn't run tests for autism.

Hang in there, keep doing what you are doing... try to understand your little man's struggle, it is not easy but try. Keep doing what you are doing... let him watch those educational videos you bought for him but be aware exposing him to longer screen time.

I would have said a speech therapist might help but I don't know how accessible they are around you.

Cheers man! Stay strong! Some kids do learn at different pace than others but they eventually pick up. It is okay for parents to expect their kids to phenomenal but sometimes things takes a little while to fall in place.

Another thing to reason will be , during the pregnancy, was the wife involved in an accident, did your son bump his head while still young? Just taking a holistic approach on the issue.

Here we go again with client - Contractor miscommunication..

This issue have been litigated here several times, I could bet we have encountered similar issues with people we know outside of nairaland.

Please I beg everyone, client please do your research, ask questions and tell your Contractors exactly what you want.

Contractors please listen to your client, make suggestions if you may but at the end of the day, oga na master!! This is the clients project not yours.

As for the cost effective way to remedy this? O boy, I would think the cost effective way will be to leave it alone as it is now and maybe invest in some lighting around the "step" to lighting the place up at night to prevent an accident.

I dislike this myself, in my first build engineer did the same thing.

I was like, hian.., wetin dey occur? are you ... are you normal?? Thats was not the plan...

after the brawl I let it be simply because it was a commercial house and although I dislike it, some people might like it.. someone have been living in that unit for years now and no complaints.. so at the end, the situation did sort itself out..

I would have "slightly" encouraged you if your building was a duplex and the master bedroom is upstairs.

But with our current climate at the moment and the building being a bungalow... this might be asking for potential "trouble".

A better plan would be working with your welder to fabricate openable burglar-proof.. there were some ideas shared here few pages back.

I still have a dream that one day, we all will be able to enjoy our homes burglary proof free..

Man, I don't like staying in my own house... it makes me feel trapped. I have never been in jail before, staying in my house makes me feel like I am in prison or in a house arrest , metal door, burglary proofs everywhere

Could you imagine living in a house like this (picture..below)....

Enjoying your environment, soaking up all that views etc... those natural lights , sitting out , telling your kids, grandkids , niece, nephews, cousins about your war stories how this all started, reminiscing some glory days...

Few days after, he asked about my genotype without even greeting me. I counter questioned him and he attacked me, claiming that he is not happy with me. I replied that 'I don't care'.
The next thing I received was rains of insults. Saying that I insulted him. I admitted and we settled it.

For the short times I've known him, I could see the kind of qualities I want in a man. But the problem he has and that he attested to is verbal abuse...

I noticed that anytime he invites me to his house and I declined, it always piss him off and he stops talking to me.
I decided not to visit him because it's not safe for me.

He argues over little things on chat, he talks to me like I'm a baby ( he is 33 and I'm 22). he is domineering... I'm just confused on the decision to date him considering all these flaws. I am suspicious of him being violent.

It’s not frameless window, it’s called “ cutting wall window” the frame used to fabricate this type of window is more bigger than regular casement window frame only that you will not noticed the Frame from outside.

We did same here for NL member sometimes ago.

Here in Nnewi, a 50 by 60 plot of land goes for as high as 50ml depending on the location. For areas with geographical issues like erosion or maybe very bad roads, starting price is #10ml. My landlord son sold his inheritance land with no single structure apart from small farm of cassava and bitter leaf for #30ml. This was three months ago

Nnewi, Onitsha, Some parts of Awka are high price area in Anambra State.

It is just like buying a garage like house in San Francisco for $1.5m and buying a mansion for 400k - 600k in the Midwestern states.

Where will this project be located?

If in the East.. brother me, just build upstairs. People are not too keen to rent bungalow.

Cost wise a bungalow will be cheaper..

But...

considering the high cost of materials now.. it might cost between 2.5 to 3.2 m for decking but again you add a flat upstairs is an equivalent of buying another plot of land. So the flats upstairs that will give you an "additional space as another bungalow " the cost will offset itself.

It’s a Mediterranean bungalow with a central courtyard. I bought the plan out of Florida and had a local architect Nigeranize it for me.


I reduced the windows not only due to the cost but also based on the flow of the house and how I intend to use it. It’s still pretty bright and airy on the inside due to the central courtyard.

Beautiful design you've got there.. lot's of light, very airy.

That's almost close to my ideal floor plan.

But what I am still trying to figure out is how to make the house not look like a jailhouse with the door/window protector??

Are you going to be using the traditional jail house protectors prevalent or you have a modified design up your sleeves?
