sheyguy:
Oga beaf can u pls do a comparison between Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa state. They both recieve approximately the same allocation from Big brother Nigeria, even though bayelsa does not have as much land mass or population as A.Ibom, A.ibom has done alot including ur pictures up there, while top bayelsan is are still sharing contracts and travelling to dubai with their own allocation.
I think if u can channel ur energy towards the ND the way u r doing for Osun here there will be no need for beggarly parasites to pick up arm and fight their host for amnesty awuf in the creeks of ND.
You people have a way of convincing yourselves with stup!d talk. How many have even been to Bayelsa? How can anyone in their right mind compare a state like Osun to bayelsa? Osogbo is a farm compared to Yenagoa, please if you want to compare Bayelsa to any state, do it with Rivers and Delta. In turn Rivers and Delta can only be compared with Lagos.

I do not see any reason why NL should continue to encourage and house all sorts of fools with gutter morals. Is there any reason on Earth why people whose on purpose is to stalk and attack others should be allowed to continue? I have very strong reason to believe that these people are moderators as well.

The fact that people who make death threats on NL are reported and nothing is done, only makes one wonder. I recall reporting eros for the same reason during the id!otic fuel subsidy unrest, but absolutely nothing happened. With people going scott free for tossing death threats like bits of paper, it has become fashionable to make them on NL. The simple reason for the laxity is that the moderators either do not care or are themselves at the forefront of such dung hugging behaviour (one famously told me he could see all ND people herded in cattle cars and gassed). There should be limits that aught to be enforced by common sense (if it is still within reach), because one day something will happen off the back of NL, and to me it seems like it is only a matter of time.

GAR3TH:
With the amount of oil revenue akwa ibom receives, compared to it small size and sparse population why won't it be the best. I congratulate Akwa ibom but I dont think its worthy of an award compared to other states. Though Akwa Ibom is developing rapidly, other states without large oil revenues and have large populations are also developing as well. The award should have been based on who gives more effort rather than the finished product. But I have to agree, Akwa Ibom is lovely
If other states are not developing, then it is their fault. It is also their fault if they do not have the money to develop.
Akwa Ibom has oil revenue, yes. But what stops other states having revenues from high tech, tourism, manufacturing, services, agriculture, their own mineral resources etc? What stops them?

In the US Carlifornia is far richer than Texas, the oil state. Nobody can argue with the power of Silicon Valley with its Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Facebook etc etc. What is it that is making Nigerian states to be so morally and intellectually bankrupt? What is it that has so siezed the Nigerian mind that we only reckon with oil revenues and not what we can do with our hands, hearts and minds?

Akpabio deserves every laurel he is getting. I hope one day, he rises to become President.

CBN names Akpabio best governor in infrastructure
On February 8, 2012 · In News

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has been conferred with the best governor award for infrastructural support to micro and small enterprises activities by President Goodluck Jonathan.

At the award ceremony organized by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Abuja yesterday, the president who was represented by his deputy, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, extolled qualities of the awardees in poverty alleviation and said the administration would vigorously pursue its transformation agenda.

Giving reasons for the award on Chief Akpabio, the CBN cited the provision of infrastructural facilities and the disbursement of grants and loans to rural women and farmers as outstanding initiatives by the administration of Chief Akpabio.

According to Mallam Sanusi, “the availability of infrastructure is critical for the socio-economic development of any state. Akwa Ibom State Government made the upgrade of infrastructural facilities a critical objective of the administration.

“Special attention and resources were devoted to massive rural and urban development through provision of road networks, potable water supply, rural electrification, healthcare delivery and other ancillary projects in the form of reconstruction of existing structures.

Culture › Re: Myth or Reality: Yoruba is closer to the Edos culturally than the East is. by Beaf: 8:49pm On Feb 07, 2012
Lets conclude this thread very simply.

I am not from Edo state, but as someone from an Edoid group, I can summarise in exact terms what is attractive to the ND/SS about the SE as against what turns us away from the SW.

The SE is live and let live, while the SW thinks everyone must speak and act Yoruba.
The SE is economically active, while the SW puts cultural domination first (eg claiming Itsekiri's are Yoruba, or even that all "Bendelites" are Yoruba).
The old Midwest saw its resources being exploited and used to build the SW in a paliarment that insisted on "Yorubaness," even Itsekiri and Edo political leaders that could attempt some Yoruba where referred to as "kobokobo," similar to how current SW politicians call us fishermen (some things never change). The SE does not call us names.

The SW would love to ally with the SS, but its a lost cause; 99% of us said no in the past, the result today would be similar. Leave our marriage with the SE alone. Thank you.

Mallam Bashir Yusuf: I'm sick of this guy. He speaks like an illiterate. When they voted for MKO in 1993 & OBJ in 1999 he was opposed to both candidates.
It is notable that Mallam Bashir Yusuf is in the employ of a man (Atiku) who holds a mere diploma, wields billions in blood and stolen cash, Atiku is a man who possesses the morality of a scarab and the wit of a fly. Compared to Professor Wole Soyinka, a Nobel Laureate, a distinguished novelist and playright; an intellectual of tectonic repute, a man of renown and and respect Worldwide.

It is easy to place the likes of Mallam Bashir Yusuf. However, a few questions bug me.
Why is Mallam Bashir Yusuf angry that Wole Soyinka has revealled that he is on boko harams hit list? It is really curious indeed that such would annoy anyone. Does Mallam Bashir Yusuf know something we do not?
Secondly, what has Wole Soyinka's political choices in 1993 and 1999 got to do with revealation that he is on boko harams hit list? How has Mallam Bashir Yusuf tied a mans comments about his personal safety to his choices for or against MKO and OBJ?

The more you look at it, the more curious Mallam Bashir Yusuf's comment gets.

Politics › Re: National Summit Participants Are "Fools At 40 Or 70" - El-Rufai by Beaf: 2:58pm On Feb 07, 2012
Reference:
When he was championing the cause of the masses in opposition to fuel subsidy removal then he was cool and many were swayed. I am just amazed at some reactions here. Some are taken aback, flaberghasted. Some will even venture a defence, surely it wasn't him. Others try and excuse the situation. Oh, he was refering to particular people there and not generalising. They say afterall Balarabe Musa is there as if we don't know who Balarabe Musa is, what he represents and how he is seen on both sides of the divide being created there.

Nigerians are so finicky whereas these guys know exactly what they are doing and say so in clear terms. Most of us especially on this thread do not understand this country at all so we just flow and ebb with the wind hanging onto anything that looks remotely like hope and so believing a lie, any lie. What kind of mentality is that. They tell us the truth boldly to our faces. We on the other hand find excuses for them. Oh well, what a way to go.

My personal advice. Never, never count on individuals. They are never reliable. El Rufai is not referring to individuals, he is adressing systems and institutions.
Two, always wait for outcomes before responding. Never be in a haste to praise or condemn these individuals. Rather look at their antecedents to observe patterns. Where a man is coming from is a good indication of where he is going or where he will end up. Men rarely fundamentally change. Their beliefs, ideologies are more or less sacrosanct. Thinking otherwise is an exercise in self delusion.

Personally I am pleased with the way things are going on in Nigeria and I will always say it. The ideological shift in Nigeria occassioned by the the present political dispensation though many like it not is probably the best thing that has happened to Nigeria. Everyone is out in the open. No more pretenses. We are seeing them for whom they are.
The bolded is brilliant. In todays Nigeria, all persons, sections and motivations suddenly stand nak'ed; it really is the best thing that ever happened to us. Truths and hidden faces will be unmasked, and a greater tomorrow will be born out of today.

@topic
IMHO, something went badly wrong in the #Occupy movement. Just weeks ago, El Rufai was all too happy to lead such company, matching "for the people" against the subsidy removal; but today they are "fools at 40 or 70?" The man sounds like he is sour about something, perhaps something hidden from the public gaze. His words are a watershed for the opposition to find out their chameleons and identify those leaders among them who are truly morally upright, patriotic and who love their neighbours and their country.

I conclude that those at the summit seeking to forge a way out of the current chaotic structural mess that is Nigeria, are the true leaders. They are the ones who care for the people. El Rufai on the other hand, has identified himself as a creature of the status quo, a user and beguiler who is so scared of the prospects of a new dawn that he has dropped his pants in his panic issuance of unbecoming words.

Yes, I love this new Nigeria where grown ups are forced to dance na'ked.

Lol @ndu_chucks!!

Why are you sounding so desperate about it? You get oil well?
You need to calm down, the majority opinion can never be swept under the carpet, otherwise it would herald danger.

Nigeria is creaking at the seams and the NASS cannot save us, regardless of if that is the only constitutional path. The country is not working and we all need to sit down and discuss the way forward. Necessity demands that such discussions be held outside the purview of govt.

The constitution forbids GEJ from calling a constitutional conference, but only the blind, deaf and dumb would not keep a foot in such discussions.
