Dangote is about to start cooking the first batch of crude but that's not what is giving the Naira High blood pressures

It's our tastes for foreign goods and services.
Which product that is locally made that is a direct substitute for foreign goods?
Are you currently using a locally made phone to type this?
Even the local companies still remaining in Nigeria and being run by Nigerians are grappling with multiplicity of taxes, unreliable power supply, high transport cost, insecurity etc which normally impacts on their production cost and often leads to an increase in their pricing which is mostly higher than that of those imported to the country!

Let's be honest,The environment in nigeria is not conducive for any investor or business owner to thrive....hence the preference for imported goods!

Let's start by making our refineries to start working so that we can temporarily stop importation of PMS!

I'm sorry, this post is going to be a long one. But you're saving a soul if you read through and advice candidly.

My story *
Oga I take God name beg you.. abort the mission....repeat....abort the mission!
Too many red flags from her written all over your post(that's if what you said about her is true)

It's obvious she doesn't see you as the one in charge of the relationship!

Secondly, you revealed too early about your intention to marry her!
Her hesitance in letting her family members know about your intention to marry her is very suspicious!

She also hasn't done enough for her to even be considered as a gf!

That part where she did her eyelashes despite telling her earlier you detested such is a big eye opener for you!
Shows she really doesn't respect you!

The worse part is that you let it slide without a single punishment meted at her!
When a gf misbehaves or does stuffs she knows you don't like and she just gets a forgiveness with a 'slap on the wrist',she will likely do worse things to you in the future!

Even when she threatened to leave your apartment and even called her ex to take her to his place should have been the final nail to the coffin of that relationship even if neighbors settled the matter!

Oga please move on!
She is still with her ex!

Politics › Re: Nigerians Groan In Darkness Despite Power Sector Privatisation, Investments by bentenny(m): 3:26pm On Dec 30, 2023
omohayek:
I am not against the decentralization of Nigeria's power infrastructure - in fact, I've argued for it on here in the past. While there are efficiency gains to be had from a single power grid spanning the entire country, better that there be multiple regional grids that are actively maintained and reliable than a "national" grid that is in constant disrepair.

That said, decentralization still doesn't address the main issue with Nigeria's power sector: the inability of GENCOs and DISCOs to charge enough to cover their costs. You say that "consumers will pay for whatever is asked", but that is simply not even close to being true. Nigerian consumers would rather put up with constant shortages than pay what it costs to produce something they desire - just look at the backlash to Tinubu's attempt to abolish the petrol subsidy (a move he was actually forced into by the country's impending default on its loan obligations). Is it any surprise, then, that no government has dared to allow the GENCOs and DISCOs to freely set their own rates, instead of having to come and beg for increases every few years?

Most Nigerians have no comprehension of opportunity costs, and see nothing wrong with having to buy "I pass my neighbor" generators to compliment the unreliable "cheap" power they are offered by private companies which can't even cover their costs, just as most Nigerians prefer "cheap" petrol that is constantly in short supply over market-priced fuel that leaves room for the government to invest in basics like good roads, education and basic health care. You can decentralize all you want, but this mentality will still be there wrecking any efforts whether at the state or even LGA level. Nigerians say they are willing to pay for reliable power, but few are ready to do so upfront, as if heavily indebted and unprofitable GENCOs and DISCOs are in any position to offer under-priced power indefinitely until Nigerians feel it is reliable enough to be worth paying for (which will in reality be "never" ).

Bottom line: decentralization would be helpful, but most of Nigeria's power sector problems would go away in a few months if the government

(i) permanently removed all the price controls on the GENCOs and DISCOs, instead of forcing them to beg annually for changes, and

(ii) abolished a true floating-rate exchange regime (making a parallel "black market" pointless). This would reassure foreign investors that they can repatriate their earnings as and when they see fit.
Let's first tackle the main issue which is decentralization of electricity!
Let the burden be shared to the states rather than having a centralized grid for everyone!
That way the FG won't be bothered about spending huge funds on subsidy of electricity!

Secondly, your idea that Nigeria will not pay for power may be true but not entirely!
The question you should be asking is.....why should a consumer pay for services not rendered?
For instance my last estimated billing was 11k per month before I switched to e-meter and yet I can confidently tell you that I only had electricity for a total of 28hours per month!
There was a 4 month period that the transformer was bad and the street had to contribute to get a new transformer...all throughout the 4 months,no bill was brought but as soon as the transformer was replaced and electricity was restored, phed brought it's bill.....they didn't even wait for a month before sending the bill....though that wasn't even my problem,my shock was how they inserted 'ghost' bills for those 4 months that there was no electricity which was in total 45k!
Now how do you want me to take such service company seriously!
When they are ready to fix their system properly, consumers will pay while the skeptics will fall in line!
Politics › Re: 27 States Attracted Zero Foreign Investments In 9 Months by bentenny(m): 12:03pm On Dec 30, 2023
How do you expect those states to attract FDI when they are not in control of their natural resources?
Why will a foreign investor come to a state like Bauchi and invest his hard earned funds in a particular LGA(which is mostly where most investors target due to cheap lands and waivers) when there is no state or local policing,no constant electricity, expensive transport cost, limited sea ports for easy movement of their equipments etc?

Nigeria needs restructuring through decentralization of critical sectors of the economy like natural resources, seaports, security etc

Too much authority and control reside at the centre which is economically not sustainable in the last ng run!
Politics › Re: Nigerians Groan In Darkness Despite Power Sector Privatisation, Investments by bentenny(m): 11:31am On Dec 30, 2023
omohayek:
All of this irrelevant, as long as the price controls on electricity charges aren't eliminated. Having coal or gas in your state doesn't magically abolish the laws of economics: as long as electricity is sold for less than it costs to produce, there will be zero incentive to provide it, and zero profits that can be channelled into infrastructure upkeep, let alone to invest in improvements.

Nairalanders can bleat about "Fashola" or "corruption" to their heart's content, but the reason why Nigeria's electricity supply has stagnated for more than 30 years is the same one why a nation which has been in OPEC for 50 years has no working government-run refineries: Nigerians repeatedly refuse to accept the true price of what things cost to produce.
The present way of supplying electricity will ensure that only few states and Abuja might likely achieve close to 18 hours power supply!

When electricity generation, transmission and distribution is decentralized to states, its an opportunity to ensure electricity is concentrated at the states not through a national grid!
This will first reduce transmission lines cost and ensure concentration on providing power to states by the state government!
Once there is constant electricity in those states while the maintenance and repair of their equipments is in their purview, consumers will pay for whatever is asked!
But if the electricity is not even close to inconsistent, how do you expect consumers to pay for services they don't get?

A bill has been signed into law giving states the power and authorisation to generate, transmit and distribute electricity both in areas covered by the national grid and areas not covered by the national grid!
States in the SS and SE should be at the forefront to ensure electricity is provided in their domain due to the availability of gas and coal in those states!

Seeking your thoughts, everyone!!!

I work as a salaried individual and earn around 400k monthly.

However, my girlfriend constantly asks for money. I give her almost 100k every month and she feels it's not enough for her. She's even voiced discontent, suggesting I only send her money when she explicitly requests it.

I'm beginning to suspect her motives, as she seems solely focused on my income.

She never suggests saving or helps in cutting costs; her primary interest lies in spending everything.
Despite my genuine love for her, I can't keep up with her demands. I had hopes for our future together, but it seems unlikely now.

I'm considering a breakup as a solution.

Has anyone navigated a similar situation?

letstalksense:
There is this lady I plan to marry, which I have made known to her already even before she travelled for her NYSC. Although she just came back from NYSC service recently. We are just discussing the way forward and on the process I was asking her about her sexual life and how recently she had sex. After insisting for her to answer. She opened up and told me she had a sexual relationship during her NYSC service. And the reason was because I didn't call her at a particular time so she thought I have find anther woman. And that was when I was having some personal challenges. According to her, they ended the sexual relationship in the camp. That she is sorry and all that. I didn't really expect that attitude from her as she seem to look responsible and Godlily. I was just disappointed even though I pretended like everything is well. And I was also thinking she had the courage to tell me the true.

Now I have to make my decision, but needs a matured advise and guidance from a mature mind please.

Do think I should continue my marriage plan with her?

Pease what do you advise I do?

Thanks in advance.
