Painful to read but true. An oil producing nation that imports fuel products. An agricultural nation that imports food. We have so lost our way and no everybody can have a laugh at us. |
Just like the story that Onu was Sec to govt. I bet it ends up being false. |
Are you people deaf? The man has said it quite clear in public that those that gave him 95% of their votes can not be treated the same as those that gave him 5% 'on some issues'. It seems those issues include sensitive appointments. No need to keep moaning and complaining about all this. If the economy improves, corruption decreases and the security situation across the land improves, do we really care on the ethnic make up of certain govt appointees? |
dearpreye:Very nice quote bro. |
While I would not use the same language as the OP, I think it is quite clear, if we are to be honest, that the black race is simply inferior in terms of its thinking and values. Many years ago I visited some friends who lived in the townships in South Africa. Now please bear in mind the houses in the townships where built by the racist white got. Yet all the houses had proper running water and 24hr electricity. Even though the white racist got hated the blacks, they still provided them with a better standard of housing than we have been able to provide for our people. That was when my eyes opened. In Nigeria today is there any major city, with the exception of Abuja where every house has pipe borne water (I am not talking about bore holes)? 160 Million people and we can't even sort out something as basic as drinking water. Na was for black man O! |
Even though I don't support Buhari, I simply can't believe this story. Whatever else you say about Buhari, I want to believe he's an office and a gentleman and would not do such a thing. This really sounds like one of those made up stories. |
Lai Mohammad will soon come out to deny this statement was ever made |
All that is good as it goes, and while it may be a good starting point, lets face facts, the man will not be in that post for ever. Neither will Buhari for that matter. If we are really serious about fighting the scourge of corruption for the LONG TERM, then we need to start to put strong INSTITUTIONS in place as opposed to appointing STRONG MEN to head WEAK INSTITUTIONS. |
Bibors:The waling walkers will descend on Abuja and Buhari has no Night watch to save him!!! |
IsiCaterpillar:Indeed a southerner did similar and now a Northerner is repeating what other Northerners did, so ergo, my point stands WE ARE NOT AND HAVE NEVER BEEN AND WILL NEVER BE ONE PEOPLE. By all means let's keep deceiving ourselves, the instability and disruption will continue and one day enough people will FINALLY see the truth that what Lord Luggard put together and his harlot mistress named must indeed go asunder. |
CSTR2:Sorry but there is NOTHING you can do in 4 years time. Jega has given PVC to all the street urchins in the North. The North now have a complete strangle hold on power. Buhari has moved to placate the Northern minorities and in so doing is re-enacting the 'One North' vision. With the south divided Buari will sweep into power again in 2019 even if all he does between now and then is chew kola nuts and dream of President Michelle of West Germany. Sorry but we tried to warn people but they did not listen. You don't know what you have till you loose it. |
IsiCaterpillar:What country are you living in that you say we are one? I mean really I am completely dumbfounded at the ignorance of some people. You have a country where the there is institutional discrimination against Southerners in terms of admission and employment to Federal institutions and agencies and yet you say we are one. The problem with so many young Nigerians is that you have only really known OBJ and GEJ's govt. Trust me during the time of Shagari, Buhari, IBB, Abacha etc, southerners were completely omitted from all vital economic and security positions. From the time of Danjuma right up on to Obasanjo's second coming every sing Chief of Army staff was a Northerner. A period of over 20 years, and yet somebody will come and tell me we are one country. Please tell that to the motorway! You young people shouting 'Sai this and Sai that' you don't know the people you are dealing with. The 95% comment should have opened your eyes. The way Tambuwal betrayed Femi should have opened your eyes, don't worry sha you still have over 3 years of learning to come! |
Ok Oshimole I agree with you 100%. In fact what you are really saying is that Nigeria should become a MERITOCRACY. Where the best get the jobs, admissions etc. SO In that case can you please tell us when the following will happen. 1: When will the concept of Federal Character be expunged from the Constitution? After all as you've said we need the best hands for the jobs so no need to be constrained by having to fill posts from all parts of the country. 2: When will admissions criteria to all Federal institutions be standardized? After all we we want the best students admitted regardless of where they come from, so clearly a case where a student from Taraba can pass an exam with 2 while a southern student has to score 130 is clearly not what you would expect in a MERITOCRACY. So by all means let's do away with ALL ethnic balancing and make the Merit the SOLE criteria for appointments and admissions, across the board. Somehow I don't think Buhari and he's Hausa-Fulani brothers are interested in traveling down that road |
fulanimafia:With sufficient evidence and an uncompromised judiciary, the process will be surely expedited. Fact or opinion? The point is that the fight against corruption should be uncompromising Desirable and worthy indeed, however anecdotal evidence from countries with much more robust legal systems than ours, shows that effective persecution of high net worth individuals is an extremely difficult task. In any event I totally admire your commitment to the cause, if there are more like you across the judiciary and law enforcement maybe, just maybe, things will be different this time. |
Greyworld:The last king of the North(Sarduana) was butchered like a dog in his palace. The long hand of 'Southern Magic' caught up with Abacha. Buhari should tread carefully, messing with the South can be quite damaging to your health and well being. Let the Game of thrones continue! |
obailala:Without a doubt one of the wisest write ups I've seen on NL for sometime. Well done bro! |
fulanimafia:In any undertaking, you must always ask the simple question. 'Is the approach I am taking going to produce results?'. I think what Okogie and Kukah are saying , is that in a democratic landscape, it is actually very difficult to fight corruption with 'Thunder and brimstone' as it where. Please tell me are his points not valid? If I was a looter with billions at my disposal, do you honestly think I will just roll over? I will assemble the best team of lawyers I can get and fight the case every step of the way, and even after a possible conviction, I will appeal all the way to the supreme court. Please understand this is not the time of military and tribunals. All over the world the concept of plea bargains is used in difficult to convict cases. I see no reason why we can't employ something like that here. Nigeria has a lot of critical issues that need urgent attention, if we can get some money back from the looters quickly and quietly and deploy that on development and poverty alleviation programs is that not a good thing? As opposed to spending the next decades fighting in court after court. Remember till now we have not yet recovered all of the Abacha loot, almost 2 decades after his death. |
If Fashola and Amerchi are dirty then why in Gods name would anyone want them to have an appointment in Buhari's govt? Let's be honest is there any petition or cloud against ANY of the Northerners Buhari has appointed so far? No Is there any petition or cloud against the Igbo man appointed to run NNPC? No? Are there petitions and clouds against Amechi and Fashola? Yes Buhari will appoint southerners, he has not choice has the constiution mandates this(Every state must have a minister for example) but he won't appoint people just because they have a loud and vocal online support. BTW I am not a Buhari supporter, but on this issue of appointments I will defend him 200%. If we really want CHANGE, then we have to be ready to CHANGE the way we think and the way we do things. You can't have change without change. |
c33b33:My brother well said O! The Duara wizard has said it very clearly that he belongs to nobody and Oyegun is now coming to talk rubbish. Go and read IBB's coup speech, it's like it was written for events happening today, Buhari is simply not the type of person to listen to anybody but himself. |
You guys anit seen nothing yet. When some of us were telling you that this man was not what he seemed and you were being scammed you rained abuse on us. Enjoy the show. 3 years 9 months to go. ![]() |
Buhari owes Amechi nothing. Who remembers who IBB's sect to govt was or Obasanjo's? All people remember is how did the president perform, and that is all Buhari is focused on. I for one don't give a damm if he appoints all his siblings and children into vital positions(and No I am not a Buhari supporter by any means, a simple search of my posts will confirm that), all that matters is will the people perform in the posts assigned to them? For me so called Federal Character is outmoded concept which should be done away with. Of course if Buhari's govt does not perform (as it seems to be on the economy for example) I will be one of the loudest critics here, but as far as these appointments go, I say 'Good job Mr President' To Amechi I say 'Lagos Lagoon dey wait you if you no happy' |
How come Oyegun, Oshimole and Liar Mohammad have suddenly all gone quiet?? |
When people do not learn from history, they are then destined to repeat it. The facebook twitter generation refused all the pleas from those of us who were ACTUALLY THERE during Buhari's first stint as Head of State. We know exactly what happened then, all he did was throw southern politicians in jail for 30 years, harass Pa Awolowo and clamp down on anybody who dared to criticize him. In the almost 20 months of his govt, there was not one sound economic policy of note. Indeed history now repeats itself, but hey, that's what you guys voted for, so you best get used to it! |
Excellent PMB. Keep up the good work! |
No reasonable person can blame Buhari for the current problems in the Nigerian economy which are a direct result of the crash in the price of oil. The ongoing oil price crash actually started last october. The oil price crash is only partly attributable to the slowdown in China. The main cause is the current price war the Saudis are wagging to try and put the US shale operations out of business. The Saudis see US shale as a major long term threat to them, so they took a strategic decision last year to flood the market with oil, to drive down the price to try and bankrupt those guys. So far the tactic has not worked. The Shale operators using new technology are able to keep producing profitably at even these lower prices. The majority consensus among oil analysts seems to be that the Saudis will double down on their strategy to try and drive priced down even further. Long terms prices forecasts from the Futures and Options markets do not indicate any significant oil price recovery before 2017. Now as I said at the start no reasonable person can blame the impacts of this on Buhari. However I think it's reasonable to expect that Buhari would have known what was going on. Being a former minster of Energy, I would assume he follows trends in the energy market. You would think that even during the campaign, he would have put a team together with a brief of 'If we win this election we will be in an environment of falling oil prices and consequently reduced revenue, I want you to draw up policy options that I can put into place once sworn in'. That's the kind of pro-active forward thinking leadership a President needs to display. Whatever anyone says, I must tell you the delay in appointing CRITICAL minsters is having a very negative effect on the economy. Ministers devise policy, while civil servants implement policy. I see no reason why at least the minsters of Finance, Planning and Commerce are not yet in place. All ministers do not have to be appointed at once, but where a country is facing an impending economic crash to not have a Finance minister in place for over 3 months(and please note even if a finance minster is nominated today, due to the Senate timetable and Hajj activities that person may not be confirmed until October )is at best a sign of a govt that is moving a way too slow and at worse a sign of a govt that is completely out of touch with realities on the ground. Buhari needs to URGENTLY get his critical minsters nominated and confirmed so that they get to work on dealing with the very dire economic winds blowing our way. |
Curlieweed:Best write I've ready today!! I wish I knew you in real life bro, you sound like quite a character!!! |
9jatriot:Please I never said Buhari has to solve all the problems of Nigeria in 3 months. First off please stop with the falsehood that Nigeria's problems have only been caused in the last 30 something months. This country has been totally mismanaged since 1985 when Buhari was last in power. We need a long term strategic approach to the deep structural problems in the Nation, but we also need short term emergency measures to deal with the current situation. When the Nations main FX earner falls in value by over 70%, that is an emergency. Weather it's all GEJ's fault, or not, is not the point right now, the economy is contracting, soon firms will start cutting jobs, the president has to swing into action NOW. Within the first 2 weeks in office, Obama has already presented plans for his economic stimulus package. Here we don't even know which direction the govt wants to take on the economy after 3 months. Com on guy, let's be honest with ourselves, this is quite slow. |
Goke7:Unfortunately if I have to explain to you how firms like MTN and Shoprite have boosted the Nigerian economy by providing direct and indirect employment, if I have to explain such a simple, obvious fact to you, then I am afraid you just don't have the ability to understand. If your level of thinking is a reflection of the Nigerian Education system, them My God, we are really in dire straits. |
Goke7:So you are seriously coming to an online forum to say that foriegn investment in Nigeria has had no positive impact on the Economy? O boy it's not compulsory that you have to post on a thread and expose the fact that all the money spent educating you was a waste. I advise you to adopt 'Read Only' mode until you get some brains. |
Urgent warning from NAFDAC: A dangerous new drug has been noticed in Edo State. The drug is called 'Lara Juice'.' Lara juice' is produced from the body of any Ethiopean female called 'Lara'. When consumed in high quantities, 'Lara Juice' can cause the consumer to go mad and start suffering from verbal dysentery. Anyone who has consumed 'Lara Juice' is advised to visit the nearest specialist hospital for urgent medical attention. |
Alxmyr:My brother thank you very much for helping to educate this deluded ignorant guy! |
9jatriot:An economic council is not the same as a an emergency economic forum, where you would bring in brains form within and outside the country to brainstorm on the way forward and at the end present CONCRETE recommendations for the govt to take forward. Please get it through your brain, Nigeria is BROKE. When state govts can't pay salaries but for the dividends from NLNG, that is a very worrisome sign. The nation is an economic emergency and yet after almost 3 months in office we don't have any clue on what the govts economic approach will be. I am sure you are aware of how much the Niara has lost value this year. Do you know international analysts are predicting another 30% decline in the Niara by middle of next year? Look this is not the time of blind support of anybody. The coming economic downturn will be very serve and trust me if your great Buhari is not seen to be doing something about, many of the people cheering him today will be the ones causing him tomorrow. As Bill Clinton and his team used to say in the 1992 election 'It's the Economy Stupid!' |
