Amarachi1990: The Lagos State Government on Friday said it has sacked 34 officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, over cases of extortion and others in the last 18 months as two others are currently being investigated for allegedly extorting motorist in the state.
Speaking on the issue at Alausa on Friday, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, stated that the present administration was committed to giving adequate support to LASTMA officials towards reducing travel time within the state, but would not condone any government official terrorising the citizens.
“And that is why we are currently investigating two of our officers that allegedly harassed citizens who admitted driving against traffic. But the essence of LASTMA officers on the road was not to harass but to affirm the dictate of the road traffic law and be civil while enforcing it.
“The claim is that the two officers allegedly extorted money from the driver. A petition has been written to the state government by a law firm stating how it happened. The officers have been referred to the agency that has power to discipline them for investigation,” he said.
Hamzat said the LASTMA officers were currently before the State Disciplinary Management Board, assuring residents that none of the officers enforcing the laws had rights to harass them, while cautioning residents against depositing money for fines into officers’ personal accounts, as the only approved account must have Lagos State Government as the account holder.
LASTMA General Manager, Wale Musa, disclosed that 34 officers were sacked for extortion in the last 18 months.
Musa disclosed that while 24 were sacked last year, 10 were sacked between January and May 31, 2019, saying that the agency had decided to intensify its enforcement and keep watch on LASTMA officers.
“Any officer found wanting will be disciplined accordingly. We have been doing it. This year, nothing less than 10 LASTMA officers were dismissed. Same last year, over 24 were dismissed. We have a system where we can discipline our staff.
“Anyone that has an issue, should please take it up with us, we will deal with it accordingly. We have been seeing so many social media comments on the law, the truth is that the law is meant to be obeyed.
“But we have a system where no LASTMA officer issues you a ticket. The LASTMA officer and yourself will face the law. It is not the right of the LASTMA officer to tell you that you are guilty, it is the court that decides. If members of the public can cooperate with us, we are ready and willing to ensure that the laws are obeyed and that our men work without fear or intimidation and no member of the public will be intimidated,” Musa said.

eboigbedavid1: hello everyone.. about 3 months ago, my mom gave out her ATM card details and pin of two of her first bank account and to fraudsters impersonating Firstbank officials. The two accounts were emptied by the said fraudsters. we went to the police and also to the bank. they blocked d two accounts with the ATM cards also. after the stress and everything, we dropped d case bcus we were spending much money on it unto Nigeria police matter. we went to the bank and we were told to write to a manager of any branch so dey could unfreeze it and we did so.. then we were told to change the ATM card, pin and other stuff wish we did. the bank den told us dat we can go dat everything is safe and we could send money into any of the accounts. On Monday, I went to make a deposit on d account. Today money, my mom called me dat she have been receiving SMS dat I should check it for her. when I did, I found out dat all d money in d account have been transferred from her account.. we went to d closest Firstbank to report and dier reply wasn't encouraging... She didn't give out her new ATM card details and pin. Infact she haven't used d ATM card. The bank told her that her account was safe and everything have been disabled dat she could go and pay money in. How then did anyone emptied the account if it wasn't the bank officials bcus she was given fresh ATM card and dey had new pin.. Is the bank not responsible for this? shouldn't the bank pay her back her money dis time around since d bank system was compromised or d officials didn't carry out dier duties by disabling everything concerning d first one.. Is it not the negligence of the bank that caused d loss?.. please can someone give a solution.. lawyers in the house, can we sue the bank for negligence? my mom is just a wo man struggling to survive. any idea or information will be useful....
Pls mod, push it to front page
my mom is really down bcus d money is for thrift society requesting for new card automatically reactivated card services and since new atm card has not been activated and default pin changed, those criminals 're still using the atm. My advice 1.Money is probably gone 2.Asked your mom not to use atm. she should do over the counter withdrawal 3. Write petition to first bank and copy cbn and efcc. just try, hope for nothing. cpd@cbn.gov.ng. |

And there should be option of community services for those who cannot pay. for impounded vehicle, administrative charge of #500 to #1000 per day is ok. fines must be affordable and reasonable for people to pay, otherwise corruption and bribery will be order of the day. Most public office holders including law enforcement agents need psychiatry examination because I could not understand some of this insane decision. |

imagrg: My Personal Encounter With Jesus
On the 8th of June this year, last weekend precisely, I composed a write-up titled "Stop Calling Jesus God" which I intended posting on Nairaland but because there was no network at that instance, I had to leave it on my notepad pending when network would be back.
My intention was to prove to the world, using my own misconstrued ideas, that Jesus was a mere messenger of God and not God Himself; what stopped this
publication was beyond my imagination: my Samsung Galaxy Tab A suddenly became so hot like it never had been. So terribly hot even without putting on the internet.
I began to wonder what was really happening. It later occurred to me to wipe off the write-up. Behold! When I deleted the piece, my tablet that was previously so hot returned to it normal state. This led me to believe that my opinion could be wrong. My new position now is that 'JESUS IS LORD!'. I now have no doubt about that!
PRAISE THE LORD! 2mg of haloperidol injection can reverse this. |

Ify05: The Supreme Court has scheduled hearing for Monday in the appeal filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Ademola Adeleke in the September 2018 governorship election in Osun State.
Adeleke is, by the appeal, seeking the reversal of the May 9, 2019 majority judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which upheld the election of Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Governor of Osun State.
Information about the hearing date is contained in notices sent to parties last week by the Registry of the Supreme Court, a copy of which The Nation sighted in Abuja.
On March 22, 2019 the three-man election tribunal gave a split decision of two-to-one in favour of the petitioners – Adeleke and the PDP.
Justices Peter Obiorah and Adegboye Gbolagunte, in the majority decision, upheld the petition, voided Oyetola’s victory and declared Adeleke of the PDP. winner of the governorship election.
Justice Ibrahim Sirajo, who chaired the tribunal, gave a minority judgment, in which he dissented and struck out the petition on the grounds that the petitioners did not prove their case.
Oyetola, APC and INEC appealed the majority judgment at the Court of Appeal,Abuja, while Adeleke and the PDP appealed the minority decision.
On May 9, 2019 the Court of Appeal gave its decisions on the appeals, with four members of the five-man panel, upholding the appeals by Oyetola, APC and INEC, and dismissing the cross-appeal by Adeleke and the PDP.
The Court of Appeal’s majority judgement set aside the majority judgment of the election tribunal, upheld the result as declared by INEC and affirmed Oyetola of the APC as winner of the election.

lawman88: I really need help and strategies to handle this matter. My wife sister came three weeks ago to live with us. She is 22 yrs. My problems now is her dressing mode which my wife is not careful about.
This lady always wear see-through singlets and night gowns. She has big breasts and always displaying them. I don't know how I will tell my wife to talk her sister to cover herself. She may feel bad that I'm attracted to her sister.
During the sallah holiday, I was with her alone because my wife don't holiday in her place of work, I have to leave the house and stay in the accommodation given to me in my place of work.
This morning, I carried my undies to wash, she crossed me and told me to give it to her to wash, the towel she tied because she was going to bathroom before was removing and showing her full breasts and she never worry about that.
Our marriage is just one year and I never cheated on my wife and she trusted me but her sister is really giving me emotional trauma. Can you imagine, yester night, my wife went to a programme, I was with her. So I called her around 8 pm that we should pray and go to bed. This lady came with a see-through night gown with a push up bra that put all breasts outside. Even her pant color was visible. I tried to control myself....
Even this morning, she came for prayer with the same gown and my wife did not caution her..... How can I handle this matter? if your wife sister is smoking weed in house, what will you do? as a man you have authority to correct anybody living with you. |

AutoReportNG: Even when you have the law that tells you the gravity of the offence you are breaking and its punishment? Why do we have laws then if we can't obey them? I am not against the law but punishments for breaking traffic and environmental laws in poverty ridden country. You cannot expect a rich man and poor man to pay the same fines but they can do the same community services. if I am lagos state governor, I will not need services of most of lawma workers till sanity return to lagos roads and environment is clean. commit a traffic offence, get arrested and do 3 to 5 days of community services. After 5 days, you pay money for securing your card for those period and administrative fines. lawma staff will enforce the law. |

RIP dear child, may you find eternal rest. government needs to enforce law not by generating revenue through fines buy by imposing community services-cleaning etc. If you commit traffic or environmental offences, you will be arrested to do community services in respect of your status. If you cannot, pay someone to do do it while you will be supervising the work. imposing fine is encouraging corruption. |
