I have observed that known Anambra people in the forum are in support of this airport project. While known non-Anambra people here are hiding their bitterness and envy towards a project in Anambra using excuses as; "I want this airport to be better than Johannesburg airport" or "there isn't enough time to build this airport to bitterly oppose the project, so it should be abandoned". Let me just ask, which airport in Nigeria has the so-called international standard that these faceless people are suddenly pontificating for Anambra, else it does not deserve to have an airport like other states in Nigeria?

My advise is that everyone should wait until April. If you see the final product and like it, then we will all be pleasantly surprised, if not, then your posts would be sensible.

Right now, if Anambra people want their state to have an airport, i see no reason why they should be denied what other states have already done. Nigeria has more than 10 state built airports that are already functional and these states don't even have half the GDP of Anambra. Therefore, if Anambra state wants to have an airport to facilitate business in the state, non-Anambrarians should leave them alone as nobody protested against these state government built airports;

Taraba - Jalingo airport
Akwa Ibom - Uyo Intl. airport
Katsina state - Umaru Yar'adua airport
Delta - Asaba intl airport and Osubi airport
Imo State - Sam Mbakwe Intl. Cargo airport Owerri
Eastern Region - Akanu Ibiam intl. airport Enugu
Bauchi state - Bauchi airport
Gombe state - Gombe Lawanti International airport
Bayelsa state - Yenagoa International airport
Nasarawa State - Lafia airport
Kebbi - Kebbi International airport
Jigawa state - Dutse International airport
Ebonyi state - Abakaliki International airport

The Federal Government has condemned “in strong terms” the killing of a Nigerian in Tripoli, Libya.

The Nigerian whose identity has not been confirmed was doused in petrol on Wednesday at a factory in Tripoli by three Libyan nationals before being set on fire, Igbere TV gathered.

Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Abike Dabiri-Erewa in a statement on Thursday signed by a spokesperson for NIDCOM, Gabriel Odu described the act as “dastardly, beastial and unacceptable.”

https://twitter.com/nidcom_gov/status/1314225387266768896?s=19

Igbere TV reports that Dabiri-Erewa called on the Libyan authorities to apply the full weight of the law on the suspected Killers.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Libyan interior ministry has condemned the act insisting that it is a new wave of violence on migrants in North Africa.

The United Nations has also described the Killing of the Nigerian as “another senseless crime against migrants in the country.”

The suspected attackers are in police custody.

One needs to know who this Nigerian is for the Federal government to care at all about his plight. A clear departure from the standard indifference attitude of Nigerian federal government to the plight of its citizens abroad.

The fact they cleverly hid his name tells you who this person is.

He went as far as threatening that should the SS not give way to sea that they'll take it by force.
Next is when someone posted about the SS not being part of Biafra, people from the SE attacked the person with words of how the SS is useless and polluted, with multiple ethnic confused people. Just because people want to be alone?
Why all these words? In between people that will be neighbors one day? Must the SE always make mockery of everyone?

See how they've been cheating Anambra of its 13% derivation payments! It's mentioned in the clip that the oil and gas bearing communities in Anambra have been cheated since 2011 when oil exploitation commenced, and the latest is the one a oil coy called SEEPCO is doing...since 2016, they've been stealing Anambra oil through underground pipes and directing it to their sites in Delta State. To my understanding, this invariably means that Delta State is collecting financial benefits due to Anambra since Anambra oil bearing communities are complaining and the state is yet to receive shishi by way of 13% derivation!

Anambra that has proven oil and gas reserves is getting nothing, yet the Buhari gov't is spending hundreds of millions of dollars looking for oil and gas in the north to exploit! When i argue that the political-economy of 'one Nigeria' is evil and anti-Igbo, this is a good example to buttress my point! It's like this because some Igbo hating bigots just can't sleep at night if they know Alaigbo is benefitting maximally from its hydrocarbon deposits. I'm sure it's these same envious bastards that remotely engineered the boundary issues between Anambra and Kogi....which to this day is yet to be settled almost a decade after it started!

Later now bigots will be screaming that Alaigbo is barren and isn't contributing anything to the federation! Meanwhile, they sneak behind our backs to steal the little we have! Does anyone think this would be the case if the same amount of hydrocarbons were found in say Katsina State...that almost a decade after exploitation began, they would still not be receiving 13% derivation payments?

I'm also angry with the Anambra state gov't which doesn't seem to be taking this issue as seriously as it should! All we hear is bloody grammar with nothing concrete to hold on to! Also, will the thieving federal gov't and SEEPCO back-date their payments to Anambra and cough up all the one they've been stealing since 2011 to date?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzfnRZMWm2E
SEEPCO is a known crooked company owned by Pakistanis.
However, there is every evidence that the present theft was orchestrated by Federal Government. Imagine drilling across River Niger just to hide their pipes under water and deny Anambra of her oil revenue? This is totally wicked!

ARE U DONE SUPPORTING OBIANO, 12 MONTHS BUS GARAGE CONSTRUCTION AT UMU ERI?
If you are not particularly pained by the development in Anambra state, you would know i have no support for any politician but the interest of my state. In this same thread, some have also accused me of supporting Peter Obi.

Bottomline is that i am pro-Igbo. I support developments in all Igbo states (including Delta and Rivers) and what will help them develop our people's capacity to develop Igboland as a whole. I am very much unlike you that thinks because you are from Enugu, you should dish out negative energy towards a project in Anambra etc, with the shortsightedness that if the economy of Anambra booms, it readily uplifts Enugu too. Just like Lagos economy uplifts Ogun today and drives industrialization of Ogun due to proximity to Lagos. But you are too shortsighted to see beyond primitive instincts. Imagine an Ogun person fighting against economic projects in Lagos? They won't because they are wiser.

If you have lived in the United States, you will know that what makes that country so great and powerful is that the same standard of living in Washington DC is that same standard of living in San Diego, Denver or Flint! Therefore, people don't unnecessarily have to over populate Washington DC because that is the only place that has an international airport, or seaport or good telecoms. That is the big difference between you Nigerians' world view of let us develop only Lagos, Abuja and Kano, then leave the rest of the country in stone age. Precisely the reason why there is so much hatred and clamor by everyone to leave the country because of the senseless agenda/mindset of a typical Nigerian to use other peoples resources to develop only sections of the country, while frustrating development in other parts of the country.

More than 15 years after Uyo intl. airport was inaugurated and functioning from a bungalow terminal building, it is finally building the permanent terminal building!

This is how to build an airport sustainably because even as an oil producing state, Akwa Ibom knew they could not afford to build the international standard airport with 3.5KM runway, taxiway, navigational equipment, massive imposing terminal building etc all at once. You MUST order them in such a way that you will continuously develop the airport in time as resources become available.

They understood the correct order of facilities for an airport to develop sustainably was:

the control tower, the runway, basic building to process passengers for arrivals & departures, navigational equipment, taxiway and the permanent massive terminal building.

In that order.

PoliticsRe: BREAKING: Ikpeazu Approves N400m Bailout Fund For ABSU by ChimaAdeoye: 12:17pm On Sep 29, 2020
AseV:
Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has approved the release of the sum of Four Hundred Million Naira (=400,000,000. 00) bailout fund for Abia State University Uturu.

This is following what the state government called "strong representations from the Management and Staff of the Abia State University to the State Government for some form of financial assistance".

The fund according to the state government will among other things enable the payment of staff salaries and other financial obligations in the institution.

Recall that ABN TV on Monday brought you a report on how both academic and non academic unions in the university staged a peaceful protest over non payment of salaries in the past 6 months.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, he applauded the financial prudence of Abia State University Uturu management, saying the current financial challenge rocking the school may not be unconnected with the outbreak of COVID-19.

"Following strong representations from the Management and Staff of the Abia State University to the State Government for some form of financial assistance in the wake of the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor of Abia State State and Visitor to the University, Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD has approved the structuring of bail out funds in the sum of Four Hundred Million Naira (=400,000,000. 00) for the University.

"This bail out fund is expected to be applied by the University Management to meet basic financial obligations including but not limited to the payments of salaries of workers in the University.

"In granting this approval, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is mindful of the fact that the Abia State University has remained a strong model in resources management and maintenance of academic stability. The Governor notes, with pride that the University has, since the inception of his administration remained a signpost for excellence and service which has manifested in the consistent improvements in the rating of the University by independent assessment agencies in the country.

"The Governor notes further that the pandemic which took the entire globe by surprise has fundamentally altered the smooth academic environment in the University leading to obvious disequilibrum in their financial inflows.

"Governor Ikpeazu is of the firm belief that under the circumstances, the University is well deserving of this assistance from the State Government.

"Details of the structure of the bail out will be worked out between the officials of the State Government and the University Management Team.

"The Governor believes that this line of support, which is unprecedented in the history of the Institution will provide the needed impetus for the University to jump-start academic activities and continue to sustain her position in the nation's academic environment" the statement read.

THE FACTS ON GROUND IS THAT WE HAVE AN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN ASABA.

WE HAVE ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN ENUGU.
.
This is Apapa wharft mentality. I want only one infrastructure in Nigeria because its in my state. Even if it's incapable of serving the needs of the country or other ports in other regions will help Nigeria's economy grow, i don't want them because they may rival my home state's port. If you oppose this simply because you are from Enugu or so, then i have wasted my time trying to educate someone with an ulterior motive.

The same arguement was made against Asaba airport that it would take away passengers from Enugu and Owerri and kill Igbo airports. Now let me ask you, has Asaba cause Enugu and Owerri airports to close down?

Look, Anambra airport WILL NOT affect Enugu or Asaba airports. If Asaba airport finally becomes international and perhaps get routes as Rome, Turkey, London, Cairo. While Enugu gets Addis Ababa, Frankfurt, Houston,Nairobi and Umueri gets Shaghai, Mumbai, Taipei, Jakarta, Johannesburg,. These airports can co-exist and in fact complement each other the way JFK and LaGuardia and Newark airports complement each other by their close proximity. By diverting flights to nearby places in emergencies in one airport. If Port Harcourt Intl was not near Enugu, there would be no place other than Lagos to divert Enugu flight when the airport was closed.

Again, Obiano does not need to build anything spectacular that we all know even the federal government cannot afford. Thus we know Obiano cannot afford them. Obiano only needs to build smartly: a solid 3.5KM runway with proper airfield lighting for night operations and Instrument Landing System (Category 2) to enable airplane land even in zero visibility & the airport attain a Cat 2 airport rating. If the Anambra international airport can take these jumbo passenger / Cargo (Airbus 380 & Boeing 747 ) jets in the picture below, then it is worthwhile and justified its existence by having that length of runway.

Right now, i think only Lagos, Abuja and Kano Intl. airports runways are long enough for this category of airplanes. Once we get a runway that can take any type of plane, then even if it takes 50 years to build the shiny terminal building in the render & a taxiway of about 20 meters wide), then Obiano did a very good job by adding Anambra in the league of only 4 states with runway lenght that can safely land this huge passenger & cargo jet!

At least a 3.5 KM by 60 M Runway, Airfield lighting and ILS cat 2 is everything!

OruExpress:
Why do to you think a train station ranks below an airport?
Countries put in their best in their international airports. It is different from their public mass transportation facilities. Although the standard is still waaay above what we build in Nigeria, these countries don't particularly pay too much attention to them as they aren't really image makers like say Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas,Fort Lauderdale, New York , Denver, Newark, Philadelphia, Orlando, Tampa,Detroit, Boston etc airports. I expect Nigeria's 5 international airports to at the minimum resemble south African airports.

My point is that in Nigeria, we have so downgraded the basic standard thinking Lagos is a standard for anything. The way someone mentioned here once that Nnewi should "develop" to become Onitsha. Because we think the closest best thing we have is actually what it should be.

We should outgrow the mindset that anything in Lagos meets global standard. In truth, Lagos is a horrid slum and Nigeria is notorious in building substandard things. That is why i grieve when our highest aspiration is always "Lagos" as if it meets even the basic standard globally.
Exactly the reason why our people are so wowed when they visit even Iran or Egypt.

Bro this a fat fucking lie! Many airports in US lie in ruin. Bradley airport in Greenwich CT cannot be compared to ABJ or LOS airport. Yeah, true most Nigerian airports are substandard but to say that even train stations in US are better than LOS and ABJ airport is hyperbole taken too far. In fact, apart from grand Central in NY which other standard train station is in the US? and even grand Central is nothing compared to London metro or even the one in Moscow.
Yorubas hate the truth. In America, that airport is the equivalence of comparing Bauchi airport to the busiest international airport in an African country. Yet, I will tell you that even Bradley airport compared to Lagos or Abuja airports is like comparing heaven to hell. Even the Tiny Bradly airport in Connecticut, is basically a domestic airport in the USA except flying small planes to nearby Montreal Canada, it still beats both Lagos and Abuja airports in everything INCLUDING number of flights.

Not to mention that Bradley meet international standard of a functional airport compared to Nigeria's premiere airports.

Again i can show you Metro North train stations and each is better and cleaner than Abuja and Lagos airport terminal buildings. Even the Monorail train stations in Metro Atlanta or Salt Lake city are better than Lagos and Abuja airport buildings.

I don't want to pollute the Anambra thread by posting Lagos and Abuja airports for everyone to compare and see for themselves. Suffice to say that even South African airports are more of international standard compared to Lagos and Abuja airports.

Every African knows that we simply lack the funds to build projects that will be at par with what the developed world does. Therefore, we always insist on the basics. Even elementary schools in America have more infrastructure than the best universities in Nigeria. County (LGA) hospitals here are better than our so called best teaching hospitals. you know this.

Therefore, what we are asking is to concentrate on the basics and make them work. Those of you in the habit of posting the tallest buildings in the world here and say that is the apartment building that Igbos must build in Onitsha simply exposes you defective thought process. If we had that amount of resources, Nigeria will not be the poverty capital of the world
.

Heathrow's 3rd runway alone costs $18 Billion Dollars. That is bigger than the total cost of Abuja, Lagos, Kano, PH and Enugu airports COMBINED! Have we aimed at building that type of runway in Abuja? No! Why, because Nigeria cannot afford such projects. But, it does not mean we cannot build basic runways in Abuja and Lagos. For those of you that think Lagos or Abuja are up to standard of first world countries.

I agree that safety and operationability is the keyword here. The airport should have the required length od runway and electronic instrument landing system before Obiano leaves office. Once the airport is generating its own income, even if the next governor decides not to fund it, it will gradually fund itself to complete the taxiways, airfield lighting and terminal building.

Obiano's primary job now is to make sure the airport becoame operational before he leaves office to ensure it can begin to fund it's own development. Albeit slowly.
