From my online search, it seems that we are both a bit right and wrong, as it appears East West road is officially Oron to Warri. There is also supposed to be a section 5 from Oron to Calabar, but how it would cross the large water way beyond Oron to Calabar I don't quite know.

Though that buttresses our point as to what exactly $800mln will be used for. Eket junction to port Harcourt is spotless last I drove on it around 2016. port harcourt to before yenegoa has portions that were done and ok and a few portions remaining and from before yenegoa to Ughelli on to Warri was spotless as at then too. So what work are they doing?

The other painful thing about this loan is that there is no clear plan to repay the funds. Left to me i would have tied the road projects to toll gates and then the revenue from the toll gates will by LAW be directed towards repayment of the loan. Also the revenue from mambilla power project would be directed towards paying the loan.

At this rate Nigeria 's future will be mortgaged because Oil, which is our major forex earner could very well be $10 in 20 years time as renewable energy continues to take over.Where will the dollars to pay all this come from

I disagree with most of the things there!!! For goodness sake why are we taking a loan of $500mln to digitize NTA!!! As far as I'm concerned NTA should be privatized. If Channels, AIT, TCV and other are surviving on their own and doing far better than NTA, why should we be taking a loan for NTA?

Even the east West road that's there for me is a fraud. Which east west road are they still doing that needs to be $800mln (NGN288bln!!!) East West Road is Eket Junction to Port Harcourt; Port Harcourt to Warri; Warri to Benin, Benin to Ore; Ore to Shagamu Interchange.

Of these, only Ore to Shagamu and Warri to Benin remain. Not sure that should cost N288bln. unless they plan to add Calabar to Uyo to Eket Junction to it then I can agree.

Good point. Northerners in Shell are not up to 3%. Reality is that if you do a general aptitude test, for every one northerner that passes, like 100from the west and east will pass. They don't put in enough effort into exams and stuff for the following reasons:

I'm tired of all these arguments of government not providing alternatives!! What alternatives should government be providing for illegal acts that should never have been allowed to occur on the first place? Look at the pictures of people trading over gutters. Eventually ask their waste and plastic bottles end up in the gutter, blocks it then causes flood.

At that point we'll all complain about government inaction and incompetence, but this is where it starts from.

Bonny in Rivers State has 24hours electricity and all buildings including shanties have power, because they use prepaid meter. Nobody has time for you if you like pay, if you like don't pay. Nobody has bypassed their meters.

Please do no use the utopic state of affairs in Bonny to judge the rest of Nigeria! The electricity supply is like dash and is not run in a commercial way as electricity distribution is not the daily business on NLNG.

First of all NLNG provided all the electricity and meter infrastructure in Bonny. The cost of doing that for a relatively small island is tiny compared to the multi billion $ investment going on at the LNG plant at the time.

Also, what they pay for electricity in Bonny is next to nothing.

Good point. As FG has actually rehabilitated 3rd mainland bridge, outer marina and currently working on Falomo Bridge. They are also working on independence bridge maintenance.

So the statement from PDP is not quite accurate.

Perhaps electricity shouldn't be as expensive as we think it will. I know someone in houston who lives in a 3bedroom apartment with 2 kids and pretty much all the modern equipment you'd expect - large TV, fridge, freezer, washer and separate dryer which is used regularly as you typically don't dry clothes outside abroad and yet the bill for the 2months I was there was $47 and then like $52 which is like N18k.

To be honest I was shocked. I thought it would be over $100 a month. Yet here I pay like N10k of nepa and another N30k of diesel cost a month.

I would gladly pay N25k for 24hrs light. That's just Bit more than dstv premium.

With network of stations across Nigeria, Nigeria Television Authority should be a self-financing CASHCOW rather than a subvention-dependent sick cow. World class equipment and digitization would do little if the current NTA is not restructured. My suggestions:

- The first step in upgrading our good old NTA is to do a SWOT analysis of the Network and then articulate a self-sustaining business plan and matching business model, which stakeholders including NASS members should view and assess. Anything less than this means the loan money will be frittered away if approved. So, no PLAN or clear roadmap, no approval.

- Second step is to retain mainstream NTA News channel as public service station linking government to the people but with mandate to staff to be more dynamic rather than conservative.

- Third step is to create a number of Strategic Business Units (SBUs) out the existing network, which will service specific market segments as purely PROFIT CENTRES to be run by separate Managements and right staff size of dynamic professionals. Such SBUs all under NTA Board can be sports channel, entertainment and life style channel, live events channel, NTA television college, etc

I totally agree with you!! If Channels, TVC, Ebony Life are thriving, profitable outfits, I don't see why NTA cannot do same. Left to me give NTA a marching order to be self sufficient over a 3-5 year term, so much so that salaries will ONLY be paid from internal revenue and see people sit up.

We have a number of government agencies that should be self governing and self funding. All that is required is to give the Board and executive free hand to execute i.e no approvals from the Ministry. If they cannot pay their own salaries, then they have to let people go, simple!!

Nigerian Postal Services etc are agencies/parastatals that should be funding their own operations. Let them go and market for business. Nigerian minting should be able to produce security documents for companies, cheques for banks etc and make money. The main thing that keeps these companies down is the control of their ministries. To spend N10mln for maintenance/upgrade, they need approval of FEC, which takes 3 months to come through. And even when approval is given, money is not released for another 6 months. How can any business run effectively that way?

Not all trekkers will become car snatchers. Some have as much money to buy any cars of their choice.

I wonder why we have such a problem with walking. When I have visited London and Dubai, at times the distance between where I am staying and the nearest train station is a fair distance away and I would typically walk it. As a teen growing up in Ibadan in the 90's, I used to walk 2km+ to friends houses in Bodija to play ball and then we'd walk back again. Even now, sometimes for fitness purposes, I walk the entire length of inner marina from UBA head office to Nitel building and back.

If it's such a problem, Nigerians should use the phone more to transact business or the internet. Ideally, in this modern day and age, we should be working from home more - all you need is internet and your computer. But Nigerian businesses will not allow - they must be looking at you to believe you are working, not realizing that work is an activity, not a location.

While I do sympathize with some of the additional difficulty Lagosians are going through, all of this should just open our eyes to a few things:

1. Lagos is grossly overpopulated and this overpopulation is causing problems that are not easily solved
2. Lagos is extremely unplanned. If Lagos had been much better planned and Town Planning had been strict in enforcing laws and designs for like 20 years, we wouldn't be in this mess today.
3. Public mass transportation in Lagos is still grossly inadequate. Okada is not the solution - we need trains for longer distances and buses for smaller distances such as within yaba, within Surulere etc. Unfortunately the mass of personal cars in these areas caused by 1 & 2 above will not allow for free flow of traffic. But this is caused by us as well by converting residential to commercial. If govt wants to go hard and reconvert to residential, most of us will say no, yet that is also the major cause of our problems, so why are we complaining.

Consider the following areas that were designed as residential, but have become commercial with roads that were designed for residential"

Yaba
Ikoyi is also becoming more and more commercial

Lagos is becoming or already is an unsolvable problem. With the high population density, poverty of its people and relatively low state budget (N1trl Lagos budget is just $2.7bln, meanwhile Texas 2019 budget was $250bln), there is not a whole lot that can be done to effectively solve the problem. So quite simply, the problem will only get worse!!

El Rufai has one of the most modern brains of all the 36 Governors in Nigeria. more so than even Sanwo olu and Makinde in my view.

He typically does things properly, unlike most of his peers who just sign contracts but do not have the wherewithal to ensure that roads and other infrastructure are designed and executed properly.

Putting the word 'Nigeria' in front of the airline is a big mistake. Unfortunately any such named entity dies sooner rather than later.

It's a combination of both. There is also maintenence work going on at falomo Bridge that's causing serious traffic in ikoyi.

I think the ban on Nigeria by USA has started to generate result, having a database for the citizens of a country cannot be overemphasized. The federal government should find a way of synchronizing NIN, NIMC,TIN, BVN, VOTERS CARD into one for the effectiveness of the result they seek as well as making it easy for citizens .

Unfortunately foreigners can just walk in and obtain all of these. When you want to get Nigerian passport, what really proves that anyone is Nigerian and not Ghanaian.
