kelvincoll:That is why the damned thing should simply be deregulated to avoid this sort of thing. The reality though is that they have a point and have done nothing wrong. In my short time in the US, I have observed that when prices rise, petrol stations adjust prices upwards quicker then when prices come down. |
tete7000:This might cruelly have been a sensible alternative. However for me, they should just simply deregulate the market. |
obailala:You got it spot on. The FG missed a golden opportunity in 2015 and they are throwing away another opportunity now. Instead of announcing a reduction in pump price and fixing the price, it should be announcing a complete deregulation of the market. The truth is that as with the subsidy regime, this reduction benefits the middle class who have cars more because transporters will likely not reduce bus fares. They will just pocket a higher margin. And what happens if crude should hit $65again? Does the price go back to N145? Or does it go to the commensurate price of N200? The FG should deregulate the damn thing and let the significantly higher efficiency of the private sector take over. When did we ever have a fear that diesel would be scarce. It was not possible because its a deregulated product. Since kerosene was deregulated, I have not heard of it being scarce! This is a stupid political move meant to pander to voters. We need a government that can take the hard decisions for the Long term benefit of the country. |
GamalNasser:I think what he means is deregulate now (remove subsidy), so that when crude prices recover, the price of petrol will be determined by market forces, like diesel which i support. Crude is slowly becoming valueless, yet we waste it on the middle class with their 2 and 3 cars. If you dont have a car, you benefit like 5% from subsidy. But if you have a car, you benefit like 80%, so its clear that its the middle class that benefit. |
valarmorghulis:i was going to say that most of the destroyed houses didn't look like they were burnt. |
For once I agree with FFK!!! Public electricity does not work not because we use generators!!! We use generators because public electricity does not work!!! All these arguments that there is a cabal of generator sellers that does not allow electricity to work is false. Electricity does not work because we have a useless, corrupt, incompetent government with zero will to get things done!! |
if you guys expect petrol prices to drop, why are you then so against complete deregulation, which would have ensured a price drop? If FG has been subsidizing Nigerian's when the going was good, then Nigerian's should subsidize FG now that the going is bad and FG has significantly lower revenues. If I were the FG, I wouldn't reduce any price!! It's either we want deregulation or not!! There should be no eating the cake and having it as well. As for diesel, it will come down in a few weeks. There is usually a few weeks lag between international price reduction and impact on the pump here in Nigeria because we import. Last time when crude prices crashed in 2015, diesel dropped to as low as N150 per litre. |
tot:True, but no country should be borrowing to fund education and health. Do you borrow to pay your school fees or clinic visit for your kids? I doubt it! But you can borrow for business or to build your house. |
What on earth do police and customs need dedicated radio and TV station for?? Why can't they get their content produced and distributed on normal stations. And what is even the point? Are we now going to be begging criminals to stop? |
0m0nnakoda:Good question!!! |
Slawormir:So in short, you are a Yahoo boy!? |
obailala:Are you sure about that? i did think that East West road was all the way to Shagamu Interchange! https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2019/04/09/fg-approves-n100bn-for-completion-of-east-west-road/ https://constructionreviewonline.com/2018/05/nigeria-approves-reconstruction-of-east-west-road/ From my online search, it seems that we are both a bit right and wrong, as it appears East West road is officially Oron to Warri. There is also supposed to be a section 5 from Oron to Calabar, but how it would cross the large water way beyond Oron to Calabar I don't quite know. Though that buttresses our point as to what exactly $800mln will be used for. Eket junction to port Harcourt is spotless last I drove on it around 2016. port harcourt to before yenegoa has portions that were done and ok and a few portions remaining and from before yenegoa to Ughelli on to Warri was spotless as at then too. So what work are they doing?

The other painful thing about this loan is that there is no clear plan to repay the funds. Left to me i would have tied the road projects to toll gates and then the revenue from the toll gates will by LAW be directed towards repayment of the loan. Also the revenue from mambilla power project would be directed towards paying the loan. At this rate Nigeria 's future will be mortgaged because Oil, which is our major forex earner could very well be $10 in 20 years time as renewable energy continues to take over.Where will the dollars to pay all this come from ![]() And as is typical of Nigeria, everybody around Buhari will just be nodding their heads and saying "yes Sir". Nobody will have the balls to tell him that unless there is very detailed and clear cut structure around this loan, it will not do us any good! The only safeguard is that a huge chunk of it will be executed by the Chinese i.,e railroads and Mambilla and to be fair, they do execute their projects under the Chinese Export bank projects. |
I disagree with most of the things there!!! For goodness sake why are we taking a loan of $500mln to digitize NTA!!! As far as I'm concerned NTA should be privatized. If Channels, AIT, TCV and other are surviving on their own and doing far better than NTA, why should we be taking a loan for NTA? Even the east West road that's there for me is a fraud. Which east west road are they still doing that needs to be $800mln (NGN288bln!!!) East West Road is Eket Junction to Port Harcourt; Port Harcourt to Warri; Warri to Benin, Benin to Ore; Ore to Shagamu Interchange. Of these, only Ore to Shagamu and Warri to Benin remain. Not sure that should cost N288bln. unless they plan to add Calabar to Uyo to Eket Junction to it then I can agree. |
junketer:That's really shallow from you!! |
emezuo17:Good point. Northerners in Shell are not up to 3%. Reality is that if you do a general aptitude test, for every one northerner that passes, like 100from the west and east will pass. They don't put in enough effort into exams and stuff for the following reasons: The religion doesn't seem to encourage hard work since every set back or poor grade is the will of God. History of poor educational standards Laid back attitude Belief in nepotism and settling themselves. Therfore they just wait for one of them to enter somewhere, before you know it they have taken over. |
fergie001:The man might have good qualifications on paper, but that won't stop him from being nepotistic towards his follow hausa and being corrupt. Very soon Aboki go full NIMASA. Aboki that doesn't have any waterway other than a few rivers!! |
RuddyFusion:I'm tired of all these arguments of government not providing alternatives!! What alternatives should government be providing for illegal acts that should never have been allowed to occur on the first place? Look at the pictures of people trading over gutters. Eventually ask their waste and plastic bottles end up in the gutter, blocks it then causes flood. At that point we'll all complain about government inaction and incompetence, but this is where it starts from. |
Dangrace01:Laughs ![]() |
Does the police think its job is to fight war? |
agitator:Please do no use the utopic state of affairs in Bonny to judge the rest of Nigeria! The electricity supply is like dash and is not run in a commercial way as electricity distribution is not the daily business on NLNG. First of all NLNG provided all the electricity and meter infrastructure in Bonny. The cost of doing that for a relatively small island is tiny compared to the multi billion $ investment going on at the LNG plant at the time. Also, what they pay for electricity in Bonny is next to nothing. |
garetz:I suspect AJ will dodge the fight |
SocialJustice:Femi invested heavily on dangote refinery. That's why he sold forte oil. |
StreetFight:Good point. As FG has actually rehabilitated 3rd mainland bridge, outer marina and currently working on Falomo Bridge. They are also working on independence bridge maintenance. So the statement from PDP is not quite accurate. |
baysherpsyche:Even if that is the case, that's because companies need them. Do you think they employ in UK and USA for no reason!? |
Gnaeusmagnus:Perhaps electricity shouldn't be as expensive as we think it will. I know someone in houston who lives in a 3bedroom apartment with 2 kids and pretty much all the modern equipment you'd expect - large TV, fridge, freezer, washer and separate dryer which is used regularly as you typically don't dry clothes outside abroad and yet the bill for the 2months I was there was $47 and then like $52 which is like N18k. To be honest I was shocked. I thought it would be over $100 a month. Yet here I pay like N10k of nepa and another N30k of diesel cost a month. I would gladly pay N25k for 24hrs light. That's just Bit more than dstv premium. |
greggng:So how then can it be N28mln. For an accidented benz, if should be no more than N12 to N15mln If the unaccidented gle on link below is $25k (N9mln), an accidented one this bad no fit pass $15k (N5.4mln) https://www.texasdirectauto.com/for-sale/Mercedes-Benz-GLE/vehicle/4JGDA5JB7HA864329 If repairs is $5k abroad (which is unlikely cos most people fix in Nigeria for far less, plus $2k shipping and N5mln clearing and N3mln profit, it comes to about N16mln To put it in perspective a colleague bought a very clean unaccidented 2018 GLC for N22mln complete last year. |
themonk:It's probably 989 ie less than 1000 miles |
What kind of useless estate is this with no roads or walkways between the buildings, just sand!! |
Notting Hill Pretty woman Titanic |
Na only actresses and female housemates dey buy new house ni ![]() How come male actors and housemates no dey show new house for Lekki and Ikoyi? Then no sabi act ni? Haven't seen Gideon okeke or Uti Nwachukwu showing new house after almost 7 years of winning, but this is showing off house after 2 years. If you know, you know!! |
DevelopNaija:These are to generic and high level |
