very likely, this will turn out to be a white elephant project. While airports the world over make profits, this one will likely have insufficient flights to make it profitable and all those who work there will be on government payroll. In a few years time, the Delta state government will complain that its overheads and salary costs are too high. The people will also complain that they are not seeing roads, schools and hospitals being built, but stupid as they are, they wont realize that unprofitable projects such as these only end up increasing recurrent expenditure down the line and reducing capital expenditure.

As far as I'm concerned, if a project wont pay for itself in Nigeria, don't build it!!

Even though i agree with the move to clamp down on NURTW, the truth is that Sanwo-Olu doesn't have the liver to do it.

If this Governor had real liver, there is so much he could have done by now that he hasn't done. He doesn't portray a man with will!

Lawsn says a lot without saying anything. I can't find exactly what his point is in what he said.

If you ask me though, the sector has multiple problems. One of which is that electricity simply isn't priced properly. Another is pretty large scale electricity theft. A third is that some of the biggest users who are government establishments do not pay.

Lawsn should be breaking down the issue to its component parts and proferring solutions to each of them instead of just blowing hot air.

To be honest, the awareness was not publicized properly. If six passengers could board the train, I would rather give them money to go board a bus rather than transporting only six passengers to Ibadan. For me, it was one of the wasted resources we are talking about.

Have you ever heard that a plane didn't fly because there were only 10 passengers? I once flew an Etihad to Dubai and we were not more than 50 for a flight of maybe 200.

Besides the free ride is also a test run.

The only way data prices can drop is if government revived Nigerian Telecoms, NITEL and provides citizens with very cheap 5G data services.

The man is just grandstanding. You cannot force any telco to adjust their rates. The telcos are a perfect free market, you do not like one, you move to another. Each have their own peculiar operating challenges which NCC cannot do anything about.

Regulation of the price of petrol is one of the reasons for moribund refineries and a lack of investment in refineries. Because return on investment is not guaranteed

Quite right. The unfortunate thing though is that the 'masses' won't see it that way. All they want is reduced everything. Basic economics most don't understand. I love reduced prices myself, but it's important that it can be justified and sustained economically and commercially.

The so called countries with smaller population have far better electricity, don't have local government staff harassing every base station looking for money, have better ports, better roads etc, so maybe that's why its cheaper, but as usual we like to apply government fiat to everything.

I don't know about you guys out there, but the machinery of Sanwo Olu's government seems to be at a standstill for whatever reason. For me, to get things moving and improving the lives of Lagosians, Sanwo Olu would do well to set up the following task forces :

1. TASK FORCE ON TRAFFIC CONGESTION
2. TASK FORCE ON STREET HAWKING AND BEGGING URCHINS
3. TASK FORCE ON STREET TRADING
4. TASK FORCE ON BLOCKED DRAINAGES
5. TASK FORCE ON BAD ROADS AND POT HOLES.
6. TASK FORCE ON ABANDONED VEHICLES
7. TASK FORCE ON INDISCIPLINE (way people wee on the roads, drop waste on the roads, cross roads when there are pedestrian bridges etc)

So someone in his right mind leaves his country and wants to come retire in Nigeria!!

You should ask Wike why he is awarding contracts to foreign companies. In the end any contract award is solely wikes discretion. It is ph. There is no way there will not be local firms with the capacity to execute. The answer therefore is that wike and the firms he engaged have perfected their system of kickbacks, much like PID.

Road construction is not particularly challenging. It however requires cash resources for materials , equipment and labour

The one in their houses are they not also paying for it? It's not free you know! Comcast or AT&T Internet to your house will still cost you like $45 - $80 depending on the speed

So what exactly is the long-term strategy for this Nigerian rail service. Because anywhere in the world passenger traffic on rail lines actually is not profitable what makes rail lines profitable is the commercial transportation on it. carrying of goods and materials and I'm not seeing that in any of what we're doing. all we seem to be doing is trying to use the rail for passenger services and that can never be profitable. I'm not aware of any country in the world where passenger service on trains in itself is profitable without the extra income from companies who are transporting their goods from one part of the country to another
