The only way to keep all the infrastructure that the current administration is doing such as airport rail lines etc in good condition is to concession them or privatize them. To be fair the Federal Government of Nigeria has no business trying to run Airport and trying to run train services across the country.

I totally agree with you looks tiny. For the population of Lagos that airport should be at least five times bigger than that.

It's not bad but it's a pretty boring design. Would have been a bit nicer if they could have used the culture of the various locations of those airports and put a little bit of a twist on the design to make it a bit more appealing. It's kind of pity boring going around the country and seeing exactly the same thing.

Data in Nigeria is quite cheap! I don't know where we keep getting the idea that it's expensive here. I was in Houston last week and the cheapest I could get was Mint mobile at $15 for 3Gb (N5.4k).


Granted call and text are free, but we all know that now what we really pay for is data.

I'm expecting the contractor's to settle the community also government should wake up to their responsibility by providing job to the youth Because if they are living fine they will not ask contractors for money .

We no sabi na! What technology have we invented? What existing technology have our universities improved? We can't even copy simple road construction techniques properly.

As far as I'm concerned this is a shallow article. What foreign airlines do is not to operate domestic routes, but rather to offer a route say PH to London and stop in Abuja to pick additional passengers as volume from only one city is usually not enough. The only city that can support direct flights out of Nigeria consistently is Lagos.

If passengers get on a Lufthansa flight to London from PH and the plane stops in Abuja, the passengers do not get down. Only those onboarding from Abuja get On to the plane.

So this does not compete directly with local airlines. Agreed you could argue that if this was not the case, the guy in PH would have to fly domestic to Abuja to enter his international flight, but nigeria is certainly big enough not to concentrate international flights in 2 cities (Lagos and Abuja). In my mind the cities designated as international airports currently are ok (Lagos, Abuja, Kano, PH and ENUGU) are ok and ensure relative closeness to everyone. Not sure if Kaduna is still an international airport.

If our domestic economy is vibrant enough we will have more demand for local flights. There are enough business men, Bank audit staff, oil and gas staff etc travelling back and forth across Nigeria to keep local airlines busy. After all how many arik or Air peace flights have you seen empty.

Air france from Paris flys into almost 20 US destinations. For example I am in Houston writing this and I flew airfrance into Houston. On my return I fly air france from Houston to atlanta and then on to Paris before landing in lagos, yet Delta is not crying blue murder.

I hope the governor remembers to do drainage at the same time. The primary reason why these roads fail is water sorting on the road for long periods of time as well as mixing with sand on the road, which we have plenty of.

Why not create a holding company to manage the tracks and let private companies bring locomotives to operate services. Similar to an airport. Government has been proven to be incapable of running businesses, yet we insist on doing so. Check the list of failed Nigerian companies:

Nigerian Airways
National Salt company
Nigerian refineries
Nigerian Coal company
Ajaokuta
Government banks
Government hotels
Eleme petrochemical

Why then do we think we can manage this railway? In 5 years it will have fallen apart and all we will have will be debts to pay.

After Diezani, I am no longer excited when these so called technocrats enter government. they are usually just as incompetent and corrupt as normal politicians. To get things done in Nigeria's public service you need an uncommon will, which many of these technocrats don't have.

Think about it though, ALL Nigerian Ministers of Education have been Professors, yet education in Nigeria has not improved in decades!!! How does a professor who went to school and suffered academic rigour to become a Professor announce to the nation that UTME cut off for the North is 100, while in the South it's 240!! Shouldn't it be based on merit? Shouldn't those scoring 100 be required to study harder?

Also, ALL ministers of Health have been Doctors, yet Health has not improved since the days of Dr Ransome Kuti.

Ogun State public secondary education was never free in the real sense of it as against the Free Education the previous government would want us believe. Students pay all sundry of fees including WAEC fees.

The rot in primary and secondary education in the state is immense and it requires all hands on deck to make it work again and if it requires a little commitment from the parents /guardians, so be it.

The painful thing is just that these same people that enjoyed Free Education in the good days of old are the ones making it impossible for others to enjoy it now. Personally, I belief that if we set our priorities right and curb wastages, qualitative free and compulsory education is possible for pupils and students in primary and secondary schools.

Guy leave this good old days mentality. In 1960 Nigeria had a population of 60mln with 2million barrels at a time when $1 was worth like $5 today. Now we have 200mln people ,majority of whom are school age and we still produce 2mln barrels. Isn't it obvious we can no longer afford to do things the way they were done 50years ago? If the education makes sense and will add value to your life anyone should be willing to pay even 20k for it per term even if it means taking an education loan .
