bukatyne:
This thread is not about sex please.

The author listed 10 ways to be a dominant husband.

What the author did was tell the husband to change himself so his wife would naturally change herself to conform to the husband if that's her desire.

So your concern should be: how many Nigerian men are dominant (in author's terms) without been abusive or ungentlemanly?
Did he say that though?

Number 2 specifically says, don't let her change you.

Unless you're trying to get to a point, and if that's the case, get there.
I'd like to read what you mean.

I found number four funny: if a husband is to be 'sexually' dominant like 'Wear that pink bra and wait for me on the couch' and not expect her to say no, where is consent coming in?

I am not arguing for/against here, just made an observation.

Another observation is that they are very big on faithfulness. Irrespective of the type of marriage prescribed, they teach faithfulness to the husbands.

So let's go:
Men: Do you agree with the traits listed above?

Any additions to the list
Regarding your observation, there are two very important things to note:

1. The tone/manner in which a man says that, determines how it will register in the mind of his wife.
In other words, there's a way such can be spoken and it will be interpreted like an order. Then there's also a way it can be spoken, and it will sound really sexy and make his spouse pliable...she won't even need to offer a verbal consent.

2. When there's peace in the home, the absence of strife and rancour, there won't ever be a need for consent. Just the presence of a pre-existing understanding takes care of that.
This means that a man will usually not expect a NO to such a request, not because he's expecting a YES, but because the dichotomy between a yes/no response does not exist in his mind in the first place. cheesy

The two points above is the reason I usually find conversations regarding marital rape and consent to be quite shallow.
I find that most people who perpetuate and emphasize those things, are forming their opinions from a place of distrust/rancour for/with men – almost like they're already planning to have big problems with their spouses that would necessitate the need for force to be applied when it comes to sexual relations between couples.

The fact is, once a certain level of mutual understanding is present, followed by peaceful coexistence and a credible level of oneness, the idea of consent (verbal or otherwise) would never be a topic among a couple at the end of the day.
Even during periods of misunderstandings and physical exertion, there will always be a work-around to provide sexual satisfaction.

As for your question, YES I agree with the traits... Lovely article overall, I can't believe I actually read all of it. cheesy cool

I'd like to add to the list though, something quite controversial, but a definite alpha trait – a man should only ask for his partner's opinion, never her permission. A sincere apology always works wonders in the end to smoothen out the rough edges.

Christopher Dempsey gave up half of his liver for someone he’d never met. He overheard a coworker he barely knew talking about a cousin who had stage-four liver disease. She needed a liver transplant, but there were 119,000 people on the transplant list before her. Unless she found a donor, she would only have two more months to live.
Dempsey didn’t know the family well, but he didn’t think it was right to let her suffer. And so he butted in to offer to get himself tested to see if he was a match. When he found he was, he agreed to donate part of his liver.
The woman whose life he’d save was named Heather Krueger, and they didn’t meet until after he’d promised to give her his liver. When they did, though, they fell in love. They started dating after the operation, and in 2016, two years after saving her life, Chris Dempsey got married to a woman he would never have met if he hadn’t agreed to give up an organ for a total stranger.
Please, next time include photos in a beautiful story of this nature.

Very important smiley

- The one who is married and not wearing her bands, will feel disappointed and think she doesn't look as young and single as she thought.
- The one who is not married, will still feel disappointed and think she looks too old which is why you assumed she's married.

I don’t see it as a bad thing either.

I just wish I could easily identify a married lady (especially the fresh and newly married ones), even without a ring.

Is there a better way?
On first meeting, I don't think there's any other way you can tell for sure that a woman is married if she's not wearing her wedding bands.

Although most times, I do make use of her size, her carriage, the way she speaks, and her overall aura to guess it on my own but still, this is never 100% accurate.
I would assume but still won't ask until they tell me themselves.

By detrimental, I meant health-wise.

It is not that contradictory.

In fact, because of the satisfaction we get, we can easily get carried away with work and all. The more we get, the more we want. Aiming for the top, we keep going and never stop. I mean, why stop when you can keep going right? And there's nothing wrong with that, unless your health is at stake.
It takes someone who really cares about your well-being to take note to remind you to stop and take a break to at least breathe.
It is an issue for most women nobody is talking about.
Lol, health-wise?
You don't mean that, do you?

But seriously, you do know that husbands die earlier than their wives on average right?

I mean, these are the same husbands who get little love, get little appreciation, get hounded for not helping out their wives more... yet for some reason, the women you say are experiencing health challenges because of over-exertion are outliving their husbands.

Perhaps giving some examples of the health challenges these women who successfully juggle work/career and raising children usually experience, might help.

Mariangeles:
Yes, there's a satisfaction that comes with having a successful career and running the home, but what I am trying to make you understand is it is mostly at the detriment of themselves.
The truth is women hardly speak up when they feel too much pressure. Nervous breakdown is real and I believe women are more likely to suffer it.
When people like saaphiere's pastor keep pushing, pressurizing women to prove themselves no matter the circumstances with the whip of her words in the name of motivational speaking , they lose it at the end of the day.
I know her type....they say more than they do.
The bold text is not a fact, and also quite contradictory when juxtaposed with the sentence preceding it.
I mean if there's satisfaction, then it can't really be detrimental since this satisfaction is for themselves...right?

At least you previously made exceptions for women who have/had supportive husbands, lol.
Do you also think their satisfaction is/was detrimental to themselves?

I agree.
No woman should be shamed or compared to another for her seemingly weakness and shortcomings.

Well, I don't agree that a woman should overexert herself to try to prove to whoever that she's a super woman
I believe a woman should give her best as much as she can to her family, and should be appreciated for whatever she's able to give and not to be pressured into doing more than she can.

Like it or not, knights in shining amour still do exist tongue
How would you know if the ones who juggled successfully, all over-exerted themselves without some satisfaction and enjoyment?

And no, no one's pressuring anyone.

I simply aimed to dispel the notion that women are all about birthing and raising kids without the need to aspire for more.
I don't know such women, fortunately.

Knights in shinning armour? Sure they exist.
Problem is, they hardly ever come in the exact type of armour the woman wanted. grin

Could come in silver, bronze, iron, gold, or even aluminium armour.
All are armour, and he's still a knight grin

That could only be possible with women who have very supportive husbands.
When I say supportive, not just financially.

Any woman who makes you believe it is easy to have a thriving career and still keep the home running successfully by herself is lying to you and slowly dying on the inside.
Lol, you have no idea... Some may have been supportive, some may not have been supportive... you can only insinuate.
Your strength and ambition is not a standard for all women.

And no one ever claimed it was easy.
Even just living life is not easy, so a woman who's expecting that there will be smooth sailing in anything she chooses to do with her life, is simply having a fantasy-type thinking... only those who believe one prince charming is coming to save them, will ever think like that. grin

If all that a woman ever had to do in marriage was to contribute no more than 5% of the finances and to take child bearing/raising as a full time job, there wouldn't have been any successful women (with children) in the world today. grin

But alas, there are women who have been birthing & raising children, and they still became millionaires, successful CEOs, and professionals.

At this rate, I give up!

@your other post: Marriage gives legitimacy to a relationship between a man & his woman.

However, if you cannot be responsible and make the right decisions by your partner before marriage, the marriage vows possess no special powers to make one start to make the right decisions after marriage.

That is why people choose monsters and somehow expect them to change because they said their vows after marriage. Or choose partners who had multiple relationships and someone expect fidelity.

The responses on this thread are also hilarious to note especially as it is a rare sight of male & female NLers heading the same direction: whatever name we call the OP, he did right telling his current girlfriend about the Ex's request.

The current girl should have had more sense, dug into the matter and make a right decision else Bobo would stop telling her stuffs and when/if they marry, she would start lamenting her husband keeps secrets from her. If I can't trust you to make the right decisions, why shod I confide in you?

My tboughts: if the OP still feels very strongly about his ex after deep soul searching apart from her sexual prowess, he should end his current relationship (apart from the fact he doesn't love her, she is very selfish, greedy and would alienate him in future) and reach out to his ex.

Lay his conditions on the table, extract her and continue the relationship. If a her concern is to 'help her family' instead of finding an escape for herself, her story of dumping him to hustle for her family is believable.

Some people have a misguided sense of duty towards their families. I know a woman in her late 30s who said she couldn't leave her brothers alone (40s & late 20s) to get a job she was required to stay there for the week in addition to other factors.

When we meet people at certain stages of life, we must accept that others have contributed to the man/woman we deem attractive enough to date/marry and they might have debts to pay.
If you had posted this before me, I might not have had any need to contribute my piece at least to avoid confusing my ex-girlfriend Ishilove.
I care about all my ex-girlfriends despite what they may think.
