![]() So true and laughed sooooo much! I wish we had more BRTs so that people depend less on those contraptions called danfos. |
Very enlightening post. Cures all the way by Gods grace. |
Offa has been in opposition since the days of Sardauna who was fair to them all the same. J. Olawoyin from Offa was the leader of opposition in the Northern regional government according to what I was told. Saraki/PDP neglected them so much forgetting that it would do PDP no good. Anyway, anyone who knows offa very well knows that they would rather vote for APC. Moreso Saheed Popoola is loved by the people and Offa people love truth and justice. As for the councillor, he is a muslim who believes in being upright. He is a true son of offa who imbibed the values of old - core omoluabi. It shall always be well with him. |
The truth is that Offa has always been in opposition since they hate being oppressed. Even in the days of Sardauna, they chose AG instead of NPC. They don't see themselves as second class citizens and will never be subservient to Ilorin. They have endured oppression and thrived nonetheless through FG intervention and communal self help projects. They are hardworking and successful people which makes some of their neighbors think they are arrogant and so they want to bring them down. It won't work cos they are diehards. PDP should think of a better strategy to win them over. |
I was told that Gen Diyas ADC or PA who is from modakeke armed the Modakekes during the war. I don't know if its true but I know the war was really bad cos I had cause to visit Ife at that time. OAU started the construction of a link road bypassing Ife/Modakeke to the teaching hospital to avoid lecturers, medical personnel and students getting caught in the crossfire. I also learnt that Modakekes had paid rent (Ishakole) to the Ife people since they settled in Ife. Most of their farms were also taken on lease so they were regarded as tenants by the Ifes. There was peace during the reign of Oba Aderemi cos he had a wife from Modakeke. More info from the indigenes please though I am happy there is peace there now. |
Its wise to focus on what the bible says and not what the congregation does. I wear what I want and confidently ignore the 'Joneses' therefore I never have to struggle to keep up with them. Na dem sabi, I can't be bothered about paying for uniforms which is just enhancing someones business - usually pastors wife or her cohorts/sycophants around her. Summary -you are in church to worship GOD. Other things are secondary. Read your bible well so you don't get confused by absurd interpretations. |
Ibadan was nice and still growing up till the 70s. Military rule and subsequent chop I chop mentality of the politicians ruined everything. I enjoyed my holidays in those days. Kingsway, Leventis, UTC,Bata, Dugbe/Gbagi, Lebanese shops etc, the libaries (compelled by dad) were regular places to visit during the holidays, The visits to UI/UCH to see my egbons enjoying fine meals in a peaceful and beautiful environment spurred one to work harder in school. The picnics at the zoo and Agodi gardens - so much fun, The PDP /Adedibu years added to the loss of values and slow progress. Things seem to be improving now judging by my recent visit. So many new layouts with beautiful buildings, clean environment and good roads. I wish them well. |
I wonder why many foreigners are keen on learning yoruba language and culture. I hope thers no special game plan. |
I am a proud Akokite and UIite but truth be told, OAU campus is reeeaaaaaly beautiful. The bank area with most of the màjor banks , stadium, staff quarters and some new buildings are not included or poorly captured. Its understandable cos the pictures were taken from a car -probably on the move. The health sciences building is also nicely designed. I visit the campus occassionaly and I am impressed by the constant development and organised set up. I hope they make the aviation school a reality in future. It appears that no university in Nigeria has as much land with a beautiful layout like Ife. Now there's a road from campus directly to the teaching hospital which also has new structures but only staff are allowed to pass through that route. The Univ of Agric, Abeokuta pictures also look fine. As for ABTI, no special difference from Covenant, Babcock, Afe Babalola etc. |
May God keep her safe till she returns home in Jesus name. I pray for strength and strong faith for the family. |
@majalisa I practise what I preach and I have no regrets. Rather I feel blessed and appreciated all the time. |
I had some wealthy igbo customers at work who have quietly done the C of O of their Lagos properties in their wives and sons names. Simple reason they gave is that it guarantees a house for them in case they die early. The one in the village is assumed to be a place the brothers and family members will insist on taking over! When will our men learn to provide their wives and the wives work hard to acquire their own properties? Its a wake up call for full time housewives and siddon enjoy women. You are on your own when the chips are down if you are not gainfully employed and productive. Anyway she can have justice if the property is in Lagos provided she was legally married. She should consult the Office of The Public Defender on his Lagos properties. |
Na wa for this 'modern' english o!Honestly this grammar alone makes me wonder if mum isn't angry that her 22year old daughter is more concerned about boyfriends instead of being focused on her studies. Probably the same mistake she made and which she wants to prevent happening to you. The yeye boyfriend can't tell you to develop yourself or is he a man with no ambition? My sincere advice is that you go for english lessons, get serious with your studies and excel in your chosen career. Your mum will fall in love with you if there is no special reason for her anger. |
NL has been a blessing in so many ways. Done some business and learnt sooooo much. Great source of information and amusement. jennykadry: It has affected me Negatively------I have made so many enemies on nairaland all thanks to Seun Osewa of nairalandI don't think so. Seems many just see the site as an outlet to vent their pent up anger/frustration about the annoying situation in our country on equally helpless people. Sadly we only make it easier for the oppressors to enjoy and have a good laugh while we fight ourselves unnecessarily.Forget enemies. Enjoy NL jare! |
Its wise for a woman to earn herself some self respect by sharing some responsibilities. What's the big deal in paying for some the things that a woman equally benefits from? Only lazy and self centred women wait for men to pay all their bills IMO. |
God please care for this girl and her parents and bring her back safely. |
Children are fast becoming an endangered species in Nigeria. Details of this story is in todays Punch. |
Many people from Ejigbo have relations in CIV, were born there, grew up there or are still living/doing business there. I once watched a documentary on cocoa farms in CIV on CNN and some of those interviewed as exporters were Yorubas who obviously had strong roots there. Someone who lost her parents during the anti nigerians crisis told me she dropped out of school when she was brought back home cos she could only speak french! Ejigbo will do well with a french language school, afterall its compulsory in schools now. Hope it won't cost billions sha. |
GTB security - the best! |
The man was humble. IMO he wouldn't have approved of this huge expense. May he RIP. |
Luke 1:37 "For nothing is impossible with God'. May God almighty bring her home safely. |

I know lecturers salaries were reviewed during OBJs era so Madam Ngozi knows what she's talking about. 77% of budget on recurrent expenditure is not sustainable if we want development. The question is shouldn't other public servants make their own sacrifices so that the majority of our people can benefit from improved infrastructure all over? Those who know should compare the lecturers salary scale to the salary package of our legislators and other political appointees. That may explain why there is agitation but I think they should go back to work and allow our students to be positively busy. Time for new methods. |
It was a problem when I was young. Sunday school message of Jesus being an ever present helper was my saving grace. I just summon enough strength/conciousness to focus on the name even when I can't say it out. It always worked for me! |
I am not a member of RCCG but I realise that the economy of Mowe and surrounding villages boomed due to the emergence of rccg camp nearby. The number of people employed directly or indirectly due to continous development is enormous. I have been there on visits to the temporary campus and I marvel at the rate of expansion of the camp. That is grace and favor at work. God is the ultimate judge, we don't need to bother about pastors and what they do provided people are not being compelled to give. BTW those who know the full secret of free will giving know what they reap. |
Some women go into depression after delivery. If it is not properly managed it can lead to mental illness and suicide. |
They used to be gold miners in the early days according to some elders who were born and bred in Ghana, They played a great role in community development back home by raising funds for community secondary schools, building of new homes and other projects e,g. Town hall, palace building, churches, mosques etc. |
nuclearboy: Ridiculous childish ranting from both sides! There are Igbo cowards! There are Yoruba cowards!Quite true. Empty boasts from both sides. |
Most are successful businessmen/women who are well grounded there and maintain contact with their home base. Many of those who came back when Nigerians were sent packing in the late 60s/early 70s went back later. Those who travel along the west coast most are Ogbomoso, Ejigbo and yoruba kwarans (based on the people I know.) |
Many yoruba families in Osun, Oyo and kwara states had/have relatives who lived/live in Ghana. Many of them are landlords there. Ogbomoso in particular has a large number of people with connections in Ghana and many still speak Ghananian languages. They were successful businessmen/women there. |
