Another stupid write up! Did Buhari tell you that he will keep subsidy on Petrol? A subsidy regime that was full of scam and frauds? And Contrary to micgievous reports,APC.Buhari never denied that there was subsidy. What was said was that the subsidy was a scam and fraud, as evidenced by what we saw on TV during the Subsidy probe. Nonsense! |
repogirl:There was less hardship then because of forex reserves where being used to finance subsidy, the same reserve that was being looted. Your one component approach is deceitful, more so for how long was oil @ $46 during last admin? And more over, are you aware that over 700 billion in subsidy was not paid until Buhari came on board? The second component you ignored is the forex rate. What was the rate then and what is it now? Bitter pill to swallow: Now in 2016,not then,Nigeria can no longer afford subsidy on petrol, with low oil revenue and looted forex reserves! |

Idiot! A well educated person would tell you that deregulation of petrol sector is the way to go. A very bitter pill to swallow, though. We should be blaming those that for 16 years, turned Nigeria into a petrol importing nation. The idiot has forgotten that in 1983,Nigeria was not importing fuel. |
After hardship comes ease. Q94:5 |
bejeiodus:Apologize for what? How can you be comparing the situation for years ago,to now? Four years ago,we had enough petro dollars to pay for subsidy. Now,the petro dollar is no more there! Economics dynamics have changed and the fact that a policy was opposed four years ago does not mean it could not be implemented four years later! |
oglalasioux:You are not far from the truth. In addition, the so called Niger Delta Avengers are most likely to be oil thieves. The major way to steal oil is to blow the pipelines. They deceive gullible people to believe they are fighting for Niger Delta. In similar vein, terrorists all over the world, including Boko Haram, use religion to steal, kill and maim. The strategy is to exploit the emotions of gullible people to advance their main agenda of stealing and enriching themselves. |
Pavarottii:Now I know who you are.But for the sake of other.s,I need to educate thus: An official definition of a recession is a period of negative economic growth for two consecutive quarters. Nigeria is currently having slow economic growth and not a negative one.So other fellow Nairalanders should ignore what quack economics like this guy are telling you,Nigeria is not in Recession!Even if we were,it could not have been the doing of the present government.Recession does not happen overnight! For instance one of the causes of recession(however this does not mean we are in recession) is high interest rates. Now is high interest rates the doing of this present government? High interest rates reduces borrowing and investments. Also, in a period of recession,we have deflation not inflation!!!!! Sound economists know that inflation is not really a bad omen per say,if characterized by high rate of economic activities. Pavorotti,we are definitely not in the same class of economic literacy. |
Pavarottii:The essence of my comments is to avert the mistakes of the past, not a blame game. You cannot ignore corruption whilst focusing on the economy(the mistakes of the past). This is ABC of economics and good governance. It is the same corruption that will eventually kill the economy you were ''focusing'' on! I can imagine how low your level of reasoning could be if you think anti-corruption stance, is not part of governance. Definitely my own level of reasoning is far higher than yours when it comes to governance. I repeat, a strong anti-corruption stance(and/or body language,if you like) is part of good governance. Whether corruption is being fought correctly is another kettle of fish! |
Pavarottii:Stupidity! How does this court case affect Buhari's focus on the economy. If you are not aware, you are suffering and paying more now, because we neglected those that squandered our forex reserves and were ''focusing'' on the economy! The high forex rate is as a result of dwindling forex income and reserves, worsened by high level looting of the treasury! A lot of people on this forum need thorough education on what real economy is. You cannot fix the economy without fixing corruption(e.g.forgery and looting).Corruption is an integral part of the economy,I challenge any economy expert on this! It is like telling a driver to keep focus on the windscreen, whilst discrediting the importance of side mirrors or the pedals! So keep on 'focusing' on the economy whilst the forgers(A forger is a potential looter!) and looters keep on killing the same economy! NONSENSE! |
smithyemy:Now,this makes common and moral sense to me! I will fall for superior arguments, any time any day. Facts are sacred, not sentiments! |
soulpeppersoup:You are getting it all mix up! I initially felt the Judge should resign, but when facts emerged that the allegations and investigations were not fresh, and it happened in 2015 and he had been cleared, performing his duties since then, why then should he now resign because of Saraki who we all know is using delay tactics to usurp justice? It makes common and moral sense to resign or step aside for a current investigation or trial, but it is hogwash to tell someone to resign based on a past event of allegation or investigation for which he has been cleared. Saraki's case is fresh and ongoing and neither has he been cleared(unlike the Judge),thus he should step aside or shut up to face his trial! |
soulpeppersoup:Indicted by who? NJC is not that daft or stupid,he would not be sitting as a judge if he has been indicted by any court of competent jurisdiction! As amatter of fact,if he had been indicted,he would have been booted out of the judiciary,he would not have any choice to make! Please can we face facts? |
soulpeppersoup:Why don't you suggest that he should leave the judiciary completely, because of an allegation for which he has been cleared and for which he is not being tried in any court of competent jurisdiction. It would have been a different scenaro if the so called allegations and investigation were fresh and ongoing. This happened in 2015 but more importantly,he had been cleared. And it is okay for saraki, that is being tried in a court of competent jurisdiction, not to step aside, abi? Affiliations and sentiments make some people think through their anus ![]() |
sleekp1:I hope you're not deaf, blind or dumb?Or you just choose to be mischievous. The CCT chairman has been cleared of all corruption allegations and neither is he being tried in any court of competent jurisdiction, whereas,Saraki is being tried in a court of competent jurisdiction. So it is more appropriate and Honorable ,for Saraki to step aside and stop ridiculing the exalted office of the Senate President, under trial! If he chooses not to step aside, then he should for God's sake face his trial! |
mrvitalis:Our leaders are too dumb to think, but your own thinking is too dumb . ![]() Soldiers in all filling stations? How feasible? Do you know how many filing stations in Nigeria,so our gallant soldiers should be redeployed from Sambisa,to fight fuel war, abi? Let us even assume we have enough soldiers, are some soldiers less corrupt than some DPR staff? |
shigoslim:So it is government that publishes news about crimes committed by the evil members of the society? Should I pity your ignorance? |
According to the official, the Presidency viewed what the lawmakers did to the budget as virtually ‘rewriting’ the budget by removing provisions for key national projects and replacing them with ‘personal’ items which add no real value to Nigerians. Only a fool would think that these fraudulent activities started only in this new dispensation. The difference is that whilst previous administrations tolerated all the shenanigans, the current one, with a very forthright leadership, detest it. In sane environment, this is enough to sack the whole NASS! |
Those who are still blindly spreading the false and very mischievous notion that PMB did not utter a word on Agatu killings, should read this: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/agatu-killings-buhari-expresses-shock-orders-investigation |
Godgay:Buhari did not utter a word? So a word is better than an action? By the way, those who are still blindly spreading the false and very mischievous notion that PMB did not utter a word on Agatu killin should read this: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/agatu-killings-buhari-expresses-shock-orders-investigation |
That 's what you get in a Senate led by a rogue! With N3.8billion, 100,000 unemployed and extremely poor Nigerians, could be empowered to start a micro scale business,at the rate of N38,000 each.Such micro scale business include buying and selling, online business, soap making, recharge card business, goat meat butchering and selling. The list is endless.... Legislative terrorism! |

Rubbish. Anything short of advising Saraki to resign to save the sanctity of the office of Senate President,is total nonsense. How can the Senate President be on trial and still be presiding plenary!!!!!!!!! What a country. |

The House of Reps and Senate should be merged and named NASS,with only one representative from each state. Apart from the cost savings, corruption would be easier to be dealt with. Nigeria needs serious and very fundamental restructuring! Are you aware that we Nairalanders can initiate and vigorously followup on a constitutional amendment to this effect? If you support my motion please click LIKE,if not,SHARE. |
Fedayeen:Comments like this make me weep for Nigeria! When Dangote got $2b to invest in a Cement factory in EDO state(SS),no body from SW or north raised eyebrow. Now another tranh of proposed investment has emerged and tribal sentiments are being connoted. What sort of a generation is this ![]() So now every investment decision must be based on ethnic/tribal sentiments and quota system. So the Shiroro solar project whose output will be put in the national grid, is meant for only Niger state, Abi? Can you compare the amount of sunshine available in the north ,to that of the South, for solar power? PMB has not signed the budget because among other reasons,The lagos(SW)=Calabar(SS) rail project was omitted . An analysis of the budget indicates that many projects/initiatives are to be embarked upon in the SS/SE. Examples: CONSTRUCTION OF 215MW LPFO/GAS POWER PLANT. Air Peace granted permit o fly direct from Enugu(SE) to China About N67billion is to be spent by the ministry of Niger Delta,in respect of various projects DC 132KV LINE FROM ALSCON TO IBOM POWER AND SWITCHING STATION TO LINK THE GIS AT ALSCON WITH ASSOCIATED BAY EXTENSIONS AT IBOM POWER - AKWA IBOM STATE CONSTRUCTION OF 150MVA 330/132/33KV T/F AND 330KV BAYS AT ONITSHA AND BENIN. COMPLETION OF SKILLS ACQUISITION CENTRE COMPRISING OF VARIOUS ENTREPRENEURIAL UNITS TO ENHANCE LOCAL CAPACITY BUILDING AT OSUBI CAMPUS METALLURGICAL TRAINING INSTITUTE, ONITSHA=ESSENCE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR SKILL ACQUISITION & MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT Second Niger Bridge ETC, There was a country! MrTeCO:The earlier you see Dangote plc as a Nigerian project, and not a northern Nigeria project, the better for your life. Only then can you appreciate that the total loan Nigeria is receiving for projects is actually $8billion ($2b for industrial projects) and (6billion for infrastructural projects) Now, who else could be most trusted with a $2billion industrial loan facility in Nigeria of today, other than the richest, most successful and result oriented industrialist in Africa ![]() ![]() ![]() It is rather unfortunate that your grouch is even against one of Nigeria's most de-tribalised industrialist. Are you aware that one of the projects(Cement factory) is going to be sited in Edo State? Erstwhile Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has blamed the country’s present economic situation on the zero political will of the immediate past government to save for the rainy day. Speaking, yesterday, at the George Washington University, Washington D.C. Okonjo-Iweala said the Goodluck Jonathan administration differed seriously from the Olusegun Obasanjo administration under whose administration the Nigeria government saved $22 billion, which she said, helped to cushion the dryness that came the way of the country at the end of the last decade. Okonjo-Iweala served as finance minister under President Obasanjo between 2003 and 2006 and again under President Jonathan between 2011 and 2015. The former finance minister and World Bank president, who spoke on “inequality, growth and resilience,” with Chile as an example of a country with a saving culture, was quoted by The Cable, an online news medium, to have said: *Ngozi-Okonjo-Iweala “We tried it in Nigeria, we put in an oil price based fiscal rule in 2004 and it worked very well. “We saved $22 billion because the political will to do it was there. And when the 2008 /2009 crisis came, we were able to draw on those savings precisely to issue about a five per cent of GDP fiscal stimulus to the economy, and we never had to come to the Bank or the Fund. “This time around and this is the key now, you need not only to have the instrument, but you also need the political will. In my second time as a finance minister, from 2011 to 2015, we had the instrument, we had the means, we had done it before, but zero political will. “So we were not able to save when we should have. That is why you find that Nigeria is now in the situation it is in. Along with so many other countries. “That is the question that I ask, what do we need to do to these countries to save over a period of long accelerated growth. “We need to devise mechanisms not just that are good technically but find a way to either embed them in the constitution or find a way to separate them from the political manipulation so that these countries can survive over time. “To build resilience, African countries need tools, mechanisms and it is doable and we need to interrogate ourselves why we have not done it.” The Cable further quoted her as saying that manufacturing was also critical to growth in Nigeria and the rest of Africa as she was reported to have said that manufacturing represented just 11 per cent of GDP in Africa. “I do not believe that we can be resilient, except if we can encourage manufacturing even on the goods we consume, services, entertainment industry, agriculture. “I think these are the kinds of questions that policy makers struggle with on a daily basis and that is what we are going to answer to get resilience. “If we don’t get these mechanisms, we politicise them, find ways to transform the base of the economy and create jobs including in manufacturing, I believe we are going to go into this looming deceleration that is being talked about.” 993 0 3 0 Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/04/nigeria-had-no-political-will-to-save-under-jonathan-okonjo-iweala/ |
