4llerbuntu: But wait, @ Taharqa and co, this IS REGISTRATION right?
its a one-off thing.
paying 10 thousand instead of 15 thousand to register a limited liability company is going to magically transform my new business?
besides that amount of misinformation that that article is befuddling. the CAC does not even have a billing structure that works like that. since when was the Act amended to include these monetary segments quoted?
besides now you have a lot of ignorant folks who are going to be citing this as reference for a reduction in incorporation fees when in reality nothing has changed much AND IT DOES NOT EVEN APPLY TO BUSINESS NAMES!!!
Im pretty sure none of you campaign/laundering team has done anything with CAC recently... would explain why you think this is worth celebrating... but then, considering u folks celebrate when Jonathan farts... this is a big deal for y'all Exactly what I am trying to understand. How does this policy help my business to grow? |

Sterling Towers: Lawyers on an average register a private limited liability comp with one million share capital at the rate of 80k but will actually spend almost half of the money on stamp duty and filing, plus they also will charge for buying forms cac2, 3, 7 etc plus preparation of the memat. So the business registration for private ltd comp, could be reduced to 40k on the average and cac register like 2000 businesses in that category every three months now do the maths, an incorporated trustee is registered with like an average of 250k does not require equity though, public liabilty is registered with like 250k on the average take away half of that for prospective business which means like 100k could be saved multiply that with almost 1000 Cac register yearly, etc According to the statement, the review of the registration fees will enable Nigerian companies to save more than N2 billion per annum, which can be used to sustain their businesses, hire more staff and expand operations. Thanks for the explanation but my question is if I save 125k (50% of 250k) how does that validate the statement above i.e the 125K will enable me hire more staff and expand my operations? |

As for China, you seem not to understand that oil prices are tied to benchmarks which incorporate the cost of shipment in the selling price. You clearly need a lot of educating. This will make the service more efficient and the government will be responsible for maintaining the infrastructure and for signalling. |
Travel › Nigeria’s Multi-billion Dollar National High Speed Rail Project by dustydee(op): 3:04pm On Sep 07, 2013 |
Nigeria has received $600 million of what will eventually be billions of dollars to build a 2,000 mile (3,218 km) nationwide high speed rail (HSR) system. The first tranche is a 20 year loan from China’s Export Import Bank to build an 850 mile (1,367 km) section. Eventually the project will cover 54 stations, freight and passenger travel serving the capital Abuja, surrounding areas and most of Nigeria.
Five-hundred million of the loan will go to the railway project and $100 million for Nigeria’s Galaxy Backbone project to improve security in the capital and provide young Nigerians with access to technology.
The railway will take 25 years to build out with north/south lines between Lagos and Kano, Kaduna and Warri and Bauchi and Abuja and Harcourt. There will be three east to west lines as well. Abuja City Centre will be connected to its international airport and to Minna and Kaduna. The system will connect commuter regions around the capital and throughout the country. At this time the Nigerian roadway system is poorly maintained and congested. The new light rail will improve the lives of residents and spur economic growth.
An Ultra Modern Railway System For Maximum Efficiency
Phase I of the project will be the Lagos to Kano line and include tunnels and bridges in between. The railway will adopt international technical standards, including standard gauge steel (1435mm). With the exception of the Abuja to Kaduna section, which will be single track, all other sections will be double track. Maximum running speed is expected to be 93 mph (150 km/h). One hundred and sixty five trains will traverse the railroad each day and carry 169 million tons of freight annually.
The entire system will be digitally operated using fiber-optic cables, radio communication and wireless services located in the Lagos control center. An intelligent Central Traffic Control System (CTC) will allow complete control of computer monitoring, onboard control systems, and LED signal management. https://www.industrytap.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Abuja.jpgGood move if you ask me. This will reduce the pressure on our roads if properly maneged. http://www.industrytap.com/nigerias-multi-billion-dollar-national-high-speed-rail-project/7819?utm_source=EngNet&utm_campaign=f227f73aa8-Industry_Tap_Volume_35_EN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_dca7a88a7b-f227f73aa8-40967457 |
Science/Technology › Man 3D Printing His Own Aston Martin by dustydee(op): 9:16am On Aug 31, 2013 |
https://www.industrytap.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/3D-printed-Aston-Martin.jpgNew Zealander Ivan Sentch is building a replica of the 1961 Aston Martin DB4 using a $500 3D printer. Using Autodesk 3ds Max modeling software, Sentch is printing the car in 4″ x 4″ sections, mounting each piece on a wooden frame and gluing them into place. The 3D printer is now allowing ordinary people to print anything they fancy from the past, like an Aston Martin, or from their imaginations.
According to Assa Ashuach, who is affiliated with the Design Museum in London, the 3D printer revolution is not about objects or materialization of objects but about the evolution of objects and making them better geometrically and functionally. Ashuach spends up to 80% of his time designing “virtual objects” before printing them. Once he has finished his design he can send the object’s “code” or digital data to be printed to remote 3D printers on earth or in space. Imagine a future where 3D printers will be aboard spaceships and available in emergencies such as occurred during the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. The 3D printer revolution is also about the localization of production. Using agriculture as an illustration, mass production of food has brought plenty full food to areas of the world that needed it, but it has come about with serious negative side effects: food that isn’t fresh, a lessening of the diversity of foods available in stores, etc. In the same way 3D printer manufacturing will deliver a much greater variety of products. http://www.industrytap.com/imagine-3d-printing-your-own-aston-martin-db4-one-man-is-doing-just-that/11223?utm_source=EngNet&utm_campaign=e671688c6d-Industry_Tap_Volume_33_EN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_dca7a88a7b-e671688c6d-40967457 |
Food › First Lab-grown Burger Is "Like A Protein Cake" by dustydee(op): 8:27pm On Aug 05, 2013 |
Yahoo! News reporter Rob Waugh was one of a select number of journalists invited to witness the unveiling of the world's first test tube burger...
“Even if I had closed my eyes, I would have known the difference - it was crunchy, like a cake, and the texture was... surprising,” says Austrian food researcher Hanni Ruetzler.
Food writer Josh Schonwald says, “You mentioned the word cake - that’s what it was like... an animal protein cake.”
The burger looks much like a traditional one - a perfect pink disc with colour added from beetroot juice. In a frying pan, it sizzles like the real thing – although the way it goes brown is slightly artificial, like a frozen supermarket burger. It also seems to lack the smell of the real thing.
It’s the first laboratory-grown burger ever served to members of the public.
Chef Richard McGowan cooked it in front of an audience in a small studio in West London. The crowd included film crews from Japan and a smattering of technologists from firms aiming to enter the synthetic meat industry.
The burger has “lived” in a dish for three months - “shorter than it takes to grow a cow”, points out Dutch physician Dr Mark Post. The cells grow in a jelly in a Petri dish, supplied with serums and antibiotics, “flexing” as they grown into tiny tubes.
Post’s “cultured beef” is meant to act as a subsitute, to offset the environmental costs of growing “real” beef. As it is cooked, Ruetzler says, "I'm very keen to taste it, it's a very interesting technology."
"If I offered this to people in the streets - probably their primary answer would be, "No, are you out of your mind?" Post says. He informs the room that the name - “cultured beef” - was chosen because 'it’s better than Frankenburger'. The technology could be used to create anything from pork to chicken.
Despite pleas from the audience, only three people tasted the burger - the two critics and the burger’s creator. The few crumbs of meat left over were spirited away - although Post suggested he might feed them to his children later.
More than one trillion cells can be grown from one cell taken from a cow, Post says - enough for ten tonnes of meat. Post says, "We took muscle from a cow through a harmless procedure - they contain cells that can repair tissue when it's injured. We make from one cell 40 billion cells - enough for a burger. We let them form into tissues - muscle fibres . There are 20,000 muscle fibres in that hamburger."
Schonwald says that the texture of the “minced” fibres is better than the textured vegetable proteins currently used in “mock meats” - and somewhere "between" those and a McDonalds burger. https://l3.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/72kV.R.D0ACOIPaTCQJv0w--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTMxMA--/http://l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/news/2013-08-05/b64e580d-95b8-49a4-99d6-90220deb5310_burger2.jpgsource: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/first-lab-grown-burger-is--like-a-protein-cake--143413831.html#rMZO7oy |

Foreign Affairs › China’s False Stability Could Soon Be Exposed As Its Growth Model Creaks by dustydee(op): 7:16pm On Jul 26, 2013 |
CHINA is widely considered to be the twenty-first century’s emerging economic leader. Global financial interests are betting that its state-directed economic model will overtake the liberal capitalism of the debt-ridden West. But is this the case?
Leaders in Beijing have a slightly different view of their economy. China is devouring land, labour and capital in a frenzy of wasteful lending, fraudulent development and ungodly pollution levels that are destabilising the economy, and the nation itself. Xi Jinping, China’s new leader, and his Chinese Communist Party (CCP) colleagues, realise that the country is on the verge of a major crisis – if not economic collapse.
China’s world-renowned 8 to 12 per cent growth rate is a myth, even as it now slips down towards 7 per cent. “Development”, like the building of cities no one lives in, bridges no one needs, unwanted mines, grossly inflated lending and construction costs, are all counted. And despite campaigns to crack down on graft, widespread corruption in state-owned banks and enterprises only adds to over-reporting. China ranks 80th in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index. Employees are motivated to meet or exceed production goals with a wink and a bribe because graft keeps the system going. Growth, after all, is the sole source of legitimacy for the CCP.
China’s dominant state-owned enterprises are also damaging the economy. When profitable private firms are absorbed or overshadowed by the state, they cease to be as profitable. That money goes to the corrupt officials and the Party-connected owners. According to the Wall Street Journal, 75 members of China’s legislature have an average net worth of over $1bn.
Global trade trends are also against China. The Eurozone is in difficulty, and Chinese exports to Europe in June fell by 8.3 per cent year-on-year, while total bilateral trade between the EU and China dropped by 3.7 per cent in 2012. There is a similar trend with Japan. The value of bilateral goods and services trade fell by 3.9 per cent in 2012.
Unsustainable lending in China runs rampant. In the state-owned banking sector, credit contracts are not enforced. Non-performing loans to failing businesses and developers are repeatedly rolled over into ever-larger loans, creating “zombie companies” for years if not decades. It is not sustainable.
With the world’s highest savings rate, historically stagnant domestic consumption, and a perpetually manipulated currency, there has been plenty of capital to take from the middle and lower classes to pump into failing businesses and development, then pocketed by CCP owners. But this process, which has led to China’s world-leading wealth gap, is also reaching critical mass.
The distortions in the financial sector have China’s central bank facing tough choices that will make it difficult, if not impossible, to avoid a hard landing. Loose money policies and a graft-based economy have led to overproduction, a massive property bubble, subdued domestic demand, and inflation. And just yesterday, a HSBC survey saw manufacturing activity fall to an 11-month low in July. Last April, one of China’s top auditors warned that total debt held by local governments, estimated at $3 trillion, was out of control, and could lead to a meltdown rivalling the 2008 slump.
Concurrently, China is playing a dangerous game of deception in its run to challenge the US as global leader. China’s yuan is poised to become a new reserve currency. The country is busy creating dollar exclusion trading zones around the world. This external image of strength is meant to divert attention, as its own economy begins to fail on its unsustainable path.
Xi Jinping knows this. Thus, he seeks to restructure and reform China’s economy. But graft, political monopoly and totalitarian control are what keep the CCP in power. In fact, those who can leave China, including CCP family members, are doing so, with billions of dollars in tow. Some estimates put the total money outflows as high as $1.05 trillion in 2011 and 2012.
At the same time, civil unrest over ungodly pollution levels and living standards are now at crisis levels. How bad has it become? In 2010, for the first time, China’s internal security budget surpassed its entire defense budget. The trend looks set to continue, as restructuring efforts lead to business failures and hardship.
Economic integration with the West bought China time and gave it a chance to shed its command economy. It almost happened after Tiananmen Square. But at some point in the near future, the falsity of China’s economic and social stability will undermine the yuan (even if it is backed by gold) and everything else about the Chinese economic “miracle.” When that happens, China’s hard landing will have arrived. Unfortunately, it will be our hard landing as well.

Politics › UK Police Probing Shell, ENI Nigerian Oil Block Deal by dustydee(op): 3:05pm On Jul 24, 2013 |
LAGOS (Reuters) - British police are investigating a money-laundering allegation related to a big oil field bought by Shell and ENI from Nigeria for $1.3 billion (846.46 million pounds), after most of the cash they paid ended up in a company linked to a former Nigerian oil minister.
The probe concerns offshore block OPL 245, which industry sources say contains up to 9.23 billion barrels of crude - more than enough to keep China running for two and a half years - the ownership of which had been in dispute for more than a decade.
"The proceeds of crime unit is investigating a money-laundering allegation in the UK in connection with OPL 245. The investigation is at an early stage," a UK spokesman said.
Transparency campaigners, who asked the UK to look into the matter, assert that Shell and ENI used the Nigerian government as a go-between to obscure the fact that they were dealing with former oil minister Dan Etete, who also has a 2007 money-laundering conviction in France related to bribes he was alleged to have taken when in government.
In his capacity as oil minister, Etete awarded block OPL 245 in 1998 for a payment of just $2 million to Malabu Oil and Gas, a company in which he played a prominent role.
The critics claim that Shell and ENI, which haven't been accused of any legal wrongdoing, wanted to distance themselves from Etete given his reputation and his involvement in the original award of the oil block to Malabu.
A Shell spokesman told Reuters it had purchased the block from the government, making no payment to Malabu, and that it acted transparently and in accordance with Nigerian law.
ENI declined to comment to Reuters, but it told shareholders in May that the transaction was with the government, not Malabu.
Reuters was not able to locate Etete for comment. His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
While Shell and ENI say they bought the block from the Nigerian government, for which they paid it $1.3 billion in 2011, Nigeria says it was helping resolve an ownership dispute over the block between Shell and Malabu and immediately transferred $1.09 billion from the sale to Malabu. The government retained the remainder. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/uk-police-probing-shell-eni-nigerian-oil-block-121631234.html#fJTZ8OU |

If Mustapha had a hand in the assasinotion and the prosecutors couldn't prove it, then we the people should hold them responsible for conducting a shoddy trial based on circumstantial evidences which has now resulted in the freedom of a 'killer'. Kairoseki77: Solution #1: Make the test harder to cheat on. * Make each test slightly unique. For example, create 100 different editions and randomly distribute them so that every school gets dozens of different version of the same test. * Require schools to submit video of students taking the exams. Video must show the current newspaper, the chalkboard, the teacher, and every student must be visible.
Solution #2: Pay students N100,000 if they can provide proof that someone cheated. * If 50 people are all sitting in a room trying to cheat, isn't ONE of them going to want the money more than the good grade? That should scare everyone into not cheating.
Solution #3: Forcibly close schools if malpractice is proven. * As soon as a school is found guilty of malpractice, everyone must be fired and replaced. The principal must get jail time.
Solution #4: Create anger among the populace. * Distribute flyers showing the consequences of malpractice. For example, show pictures of mother's dying after childbirth and link the death to badly educated doctors and nurses.
Got any more solutions
Let's create a list of solutions to this problem, and submit it to the Governors. No sense in just sitting around and complaining about it. Good solutions. However, it is not fair to expect students who have not seen a potentiometer to perform electricity practicals. For public schools, the first step will be to equip the schools with the basic equipment or train the teachers. In the alternative, the schools should opt for the "alternative practical" option as done in external examinations. Private schools have no excuse whatsoever. |
