You hardly see Nigerians teaching coding or talking about programming related stuff on on social media, especially on Youtube. This is because this is actually a legit way to be a successful person and it involves a lot of hard work, determination and consistence.

Nigerians only like to propagate get rich schemes and fraudulent stuff like plagiarizing books to post on Amazon or some rubbish Ponzi scheme. The common thread that links all these is that they don't involve much work and all you have to do is just do the little, then sit and wait for money to start pouring into your account. I admit there are a tiny minority of people who make money from these, but it's usually for a short period of time until it crashes or they get banned from Amazon, or get arrested, but the majority of people don't get shit, rather they jump from one get rich scheme to the other until they realize they've wasted their time.

Programming will never be saturated with competent programmers especially in this country because majority of people don't have the discipline and delligence to actually become competent programmers.

For the past month I've not been on social media. I deleted my Twitter, Facebook Tiktok, Instagram and vowed to never check status on WhatsApp because that's a very huge distraction. I only use Nairaland and Reddit, particularly for programming related information. I deleted every movie from my laptop and haven't watched TV for weeks.

How many people can do this? How many people can sit at a desk staring at a computer screen for 12+ hours everyday?

Nigerians are very lazy and are addicted to quick gratification and this works in the favor of programmers who are serious, because it reduces the competitiveness of the job market.

You are wrong. I am currently participating in the Applied Data Science Lab conducted by World Quant University and Nigerians make up the highest proportion of participants in that programme. Recently I was informed of a case where an employee was accused of stealing. His department has no direct dealing with funds, and one wonders how he carried such an act. He was suspended immediately without any evidence, the investigation process was shady, and after two days he was arrested and told to provide the money he stole from the organization, or else would be charged to court.

He maintained he did not steal and the organization should carry out a proper investigation as he has no idea what is happening. While he was arrested they called in an expert to check his mail and other links for evidence and found nothing. He was locked up in the police cell for two weeks and was only released because the MD requested he resume work immediately.

Upon resumption, he was invited to the MD's office for an apology as their investigation showed the money was not stolen but the proper account was not done.

Now, he wants to sue the organization for unfair treatment and they are pleading for a settlement outside the court.

Should he listen to them or go ahead with it?

The negligence of proper investigation led to him being locked up in the police cell for two weeks with torture and humiliation. Also, his goodwill in that organization has been tarnished.

All of this could have been avoided if a proper Disciplinary Investigation was carried out. During disciplinary investigations do not assume what the resolve is until you investigate and have facts with evidence.

Despite every effort, even the best-run businesses may encounter disciplinary problems with employees from time to time. There is no perfect organization, hence the need for policies and procedures that aid best practices.

Although it is always best to focus on effective management practices and preventative measures, having clear and fair disciplinary procedures is a good first step in avoiding difficult employment tribunals.

It is advisable to have a detailed policy in place to address various disciplinary issues, and when there is an issue, especially a case or Gross misconduct, The HR Head should ensure due diligence is carried out to the letter so that no one is accused wrongly.

The senior management team reacted stupidly. They should have kept the case secret, investigate it and get hard evidence that will be vetted by lawyers before coming open with the accusation. I guess their reason for the swift reaction was their fear that the employee could abscond with the money they thought he stole but that excuse is not tenable. They have tortured that man for a crime he did not commit. If I were in his shoes I will do the following:

1. Ask for a compensation equivalent to 1 year salary and resign if my salary is less than 500k and if they refuse I sue immediately but if my salary is greater than 500k I will forgo compensation and keep my job.
2. Ask the senior management team to write and sign an apology letter stating that I was falsely accused, arrested and detained for the crime stealing. I will keep the original copy and the firm can keep the duplicate copy.
3. I will intensify my hunt for another job.

Even for societies that are adjudged as not gender friendly for women (South Korea, UAE and Japan), their women live way more prosperous lives than their Nigerian counterparts.


We have many Nigerian women trading their bodies in Italy, the UAE and parts of Europe but we don’t have similar or even half the proportion of European ladies doing same in Nigeria. How many Italian women have you seen in Allen Avenue or any red-light district in Nigeria? How many South Korean women have you seen selling their bodies in Nigeria? How many Singaporean ladies have you seen/read travel to Nigeria to “hustle”? I am an ardent reader of Singaporean news and not once have I read that Singaporean ladies sell their bodies to pay school fees, to eat or get a job but these things are rampant in Nigeria because unlike Singapore where the likes of Lee Kuan Yew and Co built a prosperous society for them to thrive, Nigerian men of same generation ruined the country. Worse still, their successors exacerbated these issues through wanton corruption and rife ethnic bigotry compared to Lee’s successors who doubled down on his achievements by diversifying Singapore’s economy thereby generating more jobs for their citizens. Same in Japan where women constitute a larger proportion of luxury goods’ consumers because their men have created a prosperous place for them to be able to afford those products. Women of the world's poverty capital can only dream of being major consumers of luxury goods.

These Nigerian men had mothers as coparents or sole parents what did these women do to instill the values of sacrifice, honesty, patriotism and selflessness in their sons. More often than not, in less developed societies mothers spend more time with their children during their formative years than their fathers...Have mothers really played their role as they should? They raised yahoo boys, drug dealers, corrupt politicians etc, enjoy the proceeds of ill gotten wealth and yet you are here pointing fingers at half the population. Your type of reasoning will not change the course of the country for the better. I've observed the families around me and my family and this is what I've noticed.

The average Nigerian woman around me brings half of her salary, cooks for the family, cleans the home, manages the home and takes care of the kids. Sometimes she may get help from her relative who stays with them or her husband's relative to manage the house but usually she does everything herself. The man never helps, he only pays the bills.

In my house, my mom uses half of her salary to buy toiletries, buy things for us the children (like tech gadgets and lots of other miscellaneous items) and sometimes to cook while managing the home and working full-time outside the house.
My dad does not help with house chores, he only pays the bills, buys food stuff and occasionally buys miscellaneous items for the home.

I live in an academic environment where "housewives" are practically non-existent. The women work outside the home as much as the men and still run their homes. So how my home is run, is basically how the hundreds of homes around us are run too.


From what I wrote up there, it's clear that what both genders are contributing to the family is not 50-50. The woman brings 80 and the man brings 20.

My conclusion is that women bring more to the table in modern Nigerian homes than men do.

I tell my personal experience.

Yesterday I visited the mall to get toiletries,snacks and beverages for my gangs
It was an impromptu buying,I was actually dodging from buying it,but my gangs just wouldn't let me.


We got all we wanted,ate and arrived home with our loots.

I was trying to fit all we bought inside the kitchen,when I heard the voice of a neighbor,like she stays too compound away from mine.

She's a widow who recently lost her husband to the cold hands of death this year(June) precisely and saddled with the lone responsibility of taking care of her 3 lil boys
She came to buy fufu(akpu) for her son's to eat.

I don't know what prompted me,I invited her inside my pavement,then slashed my loots into 3 places then gave her 1 part including a crate of egg.

She started crying ,father lawd I was confused the more,you needed to see the joys in her face.

I knew my kids needed those things badly,but here was a woman who needed it more than us.

I have planned gifting her 2 paints of rice during Xmas period to put smiles on her face.
