The @bolden part is the major reason most building collapsed in this country....

You may ask, how?

I'll tell you, I know you just GUESS/ASSUME the type of foundation not according to STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN of the building. Which is a typical behavior of Nigerian Engineers... They just guess based on their imaginary size, type and frequently seen structure.

Go to any construction site in Nigeria today, and ask for the structural analysis and design. I bet you, you won't get instead you will only be given the reinforcement schedule.

Just a single storey structural analysis and design can give you a report of over 150pages....

How many engineers can even interpret structural analysis and design report not to talk of creating it?

Is "sonship" and "father" the message in your scripture?
I just cited sonship and fatherhood as first examples never dive into the main message because if Quran could deny the fatherhood and sonship of God which both the Old and New Testament agreed with then, it's a clear evident that the person speaking in Quran can't be the same in the Bible.

By the way, are you claiming both Quran and Bible passing the same message?

All the books in tbe Bible were written by different people with different minds as I pointed out by the difference of God's wrath in the Old and loving Christ in the New. But make me understand please.
I'm still on my point, the different people convey the messages of ONE MIND not with different mind.

Also, it will be so dishonest of you if you think Old Testament only shows God as a wrathful God and not looking at the same Old Testament who speaks about God's Love....even Moses who God used to fight war spoke about God's love likewise David....so I don't know why you just see wrath and not LOVE from the same God.

Something that the same QURAN never addressed Isn't that a clear two different characters in play?

What is the message in the Bible and what is the message in the Quran?
1. The God in Old Testament claimed to be a FATHER suddenly He rejected to be a father in Quran, how come?

2. The God in the Old Testament called people His son whereas Quran denied God having any son (the sole aim of this is to reject the sonship of Jesus Christ), this means the writer of Quran must have missed the reason why God called people His son.

Let me stop here....

My point is, why aren't you looking at the Quran the same way?
Quran and Bible convey different messages from one mind, how is that hard for you to understand?

You first thought I was referring to the violent that's why you rush to chuck mouth and came with Wrathful and Love comparison....

Forgotten that the same Old Testament where violent event were recorded also recorded God showing love for people including strangers something even Quran didn't attribute to its speaker.

How do those who read the Torah with its angry wrathful God and the New Testament with Jesus so full of love, conclude the two books are portraying one entity mind? Is it because the two books were joined when they gave them to you or are you being unreasonable?
SMH....so the only thing your brain can process from Old Testament is seeing God as an angry wrathful God...when the same Old Testament declares the LOVE OF GOD for His people even strangers which you can't even see in Quran.

Anyways, I don't expect you to see that.

Meanwhile, I repeat no reasonable person will read Quran and Bible, and conclude the two books portrayed one entity's mind not even because of some violent events recorded but the actual message the two conveyed to people.

you have spoken well my brother.
But i want you look at this scripture again let's reason it together. grin

1 Corinthians 5:1(KJV) It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

Now, looking at the scripture, Paul specifically mentioned fornication, as if that is not enough he defined what someone did that he is calling fornication, that the person was sleeping with his father's wife.

Is there anything more straight-forward than that?

I also noticed that though the word fornication is mentioned countless times in several verses of the bible it is only 1 Corinthians 5:1 that defined fornication in details that it means one sleeping with his father's wife. All other scriptures will say for example,
Flee fornication,
To avoid fornication let every man marry his wife and so on.
But non of these scriptures mentioning fornication has defined what fornication is, only 1Corinthians 5:1 did.

I'm a student of the bible,
You are a student too,
Let's leave sentiment of what we have believed previously aside about what we think fornication is.
Let's face 1 Corinthians 5:1 and analyse it squarely the way we see it.

What is your take? cheesy
Your point doesn't need long narration.....

The simple answer to your it is, sleeping with one's father's wife is also fornication but that's not ONLY THING FORNICATION means in the scripture.

If you object to this, I'll go ahead to present the details by citing different scholars view on the subject matter.

Christianity EtcFornication Is Not Only Done Outside Marriage But Also Within Marriage! by Emusan(op): 8:55am On Sep 30, 2019
This thread is to clear the air about the topic on front page tiled "Fornication is not sleeping with who you are not married to..." as you can check from the below link.

https://www.nairaland.com/5191658/fornication-not-just-sleeping-someone

From the thread, it's evident that the @OP made valid point, I only disagree with him where he said "Watching Pornography is secondary fornication"

Watching pornography isn't secondary fornication but fornication in every ramifications.

How? You may ask!

This simply means the GREEK word translated as fornication in the scripture is "porneia" and critically looking at this word, you'll probably see the tone in word like porn/pornography. This is to tell you that the people behind the creation of porn/pornography know exactly the message they are passing across.

That being said....

The main purpose of this thread is to address the misconception people are having about FORNICATION being attached to only people OUTSIDE THE MARRIAGE to distort the truth of the scripture as it can be seen from the comments on the thread.

Firstly, I understand that whenever people are talking about fornication outside marriage is to eliminate any sexual relationship attached to BF/GF as commonly called today. This has sideline the married ones making it seems it wasn't applied to them either.

Secondly, sorry to burst your bubble, fornication isn't just about having sexual relationship outside marriage but having sexual relationship all around be you married or not.

This is because the Strong's Greek Dictionary defines "Porneia" as:

Harlotry (including adultery and incest); figuratively, idolatry:--fornication

so stop saying fornication is done OUTSIDE MARRIAGE...

Now the main issue is, should two people who have not married be sleeping with each other?

I know this is where people do disagree mostly with each other but I'll try to address this in the light of the scripture.

This can be seen from that thread especially with @paxonel which he got some points right thou not be able to pass it across very well but he misapplied 1 Corinthian 5:1 by saying "fornication is sleeping with someone's father wife or vise versa" sorry that's not the right interpretation of that verse.

Back to the main point.....

Thirdly, whenever the issue of unmarried people (BF/GF) sleeping with each other arises, people try to separate it:

1) The committed ones (who are serious and decided to marry each other)
2) Uncommitted ones (never have marriage in view but just doing it either for fun or for any reason)

I won't dwell much on the "Uncommitted ones" because outrightly everyone seems to agree that they are fornicating.

What of the "Committed ones"?

Anyhow we look at it, no how two people will eventually marry without coming together as friends FIRST the time span/frame might be different (<1yr, 1yr, 2yrs, 3yrs e.t.c) and you can called it any name you like be it BF/GF, courtship, dating e.t.c the point is, at this level were they permitted to be sleeping with each other?

Fourthly, to answer this question, I'll FIRST say, no separation as committed or uncommitted ones in the scripture likewise do scripture openly speak over the issue. Thou some people have misapplied some certain verses to this situation.

Such scripture are 1 Corinthian 7:1-2, 9; Heb 13:4
These two scriptures were strictly addressing the issue of marriage not before/outside marriage.

Take for instance 1 Corinthian 7:1 which is commonly used "...It is good for a man not to touch a woman ....Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband"

From here, having the understanding of what fornication is from the beginning of this thread, you can grab the point but what gets most people confuse is the @underlined where it said "...to TOUCH A WOMAN" so to them, it means not to sleep with her, whereas, this isn't about that.

At least most scholars I know never interpret this to mean unmarried people not to sleep with each other (Note: I'm not supporting unmarried people sleeping with each other but interpreting the scripture the right way) but the question is about whether a man should marry.

Adam Clarke put it this way: "Is it proper for a man to marry in the present circumstances of the church?"

Barnes said this: "Another question which, it seems, had arisen among them was, whether it was proper to continue in the married state in the existing condition of the church"

Family Bible Notes says: "Not to touch a woman; not to be married?"

Jamieson Brown say: "The Corinthians in their letter had probably asked questions which tended to disparage marriage, and had implied that it was better to break it off when contracted with the unbeliever"

And many more......
Likewise if you read their submission about Heb 13:4 it's all about marriage not OUTSIDE MARRIAGE....

BBE: "Let married life be honoured among all of you and not made unclean, for men untrue in married life will be judged by God"

RSV "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefile; for God will judge the immoral and adulterous"

The word "Immoral" used RSV is what KJV used as "whoremongers" and the Greek word translated was "PORNOS"

Lastly, should the so committed ones be sleeping with each other? Well, the answer can't be outrightly YES or NO with scripture. Thou the scripture always admonishes us to keep our body holy and our body is the temple of God also no one can applied this to unmarried people only.

The point I'm driving at is that some people have neglected the key point of those verses by making it seems they were solely applied to unmarried ones, leaving marriage ones to think they're not fornicating when they were seriously addressing the issue of marriage.

That's why most people keep replacing the word fornication with BF/GF.....

May God help us all!

Northern Nigerian Christians are the most persecuted all over the world.
It reached its peak in 1998 when Boko haram came up.
What actually made some people to come together and formed a terrorist gang to kill people are the hatred and the pains they, received daily by sighting Christians around them. Nothing is more hurtful to an islamic jihadist than hearing Christian drums and songs. It hurts the demon in them.
Borno state has to 27 local governments.
Christianity has a very long history in Borno.
Since the beginning of boko haram, about 80% of churches in Borno have been burnt down or destroyed. More than 90% of the Christian communities have been attacked, their female children have either been killed, kidnapped and enslaved and married to Islamic jihadists.
Their male sons have either been killed, kidnapped and forced to convert to islam and join boko haram.
Borno state is littered with widows. The world only know of Chibok girls. Chibok is only one community among many. Borno state is a hell where the devil lives. The press dare not enter this villages to interview people thus the atrocities of the anti christ is under reported. The people are left to their fates. Some have converted , to spare their lives. Some have denied Christ just to see if boko haram can spare them. In all these, some people are still going to Church. Some people have not bowed and they refuse to bow.
A woman who has lost her husband and her son to boko haram and her daughter married away to a jihadist still have reasons to go to Church and identify with Christ, knowing that her own life will be gone soon.
Abandoned by their southern brothers, who placed more importance in doing missionary works in South Africa, europe, Asia and America, the borno and northern christians have been left in the eyes of the beast, the anti christ.
It's only we in the North can fully grasp your point.

Anyways, God is with us and we won't relent on serving Him.

Sorry, the Southerners didn't abandon them, many missionaries today are in the North...about two months ago some missionaries pay a visit to one typical village in Abuja, when I said typical you should understand what I mean.

This is a place where there's no school, health center, even one single church.

No one in the village can speak broken English not to talk of Fluent English. In fact, they speak Hausa sparingly, the Hausa interpreter who went with them still find it difficult to convene his message.

Anyways, the peace of Christ will continue to be with all missionaries on the field.

Nigerian leaders are still far far back when it comes to infrastructure while their counterparts in other countries are already in year 2050.
When we're talking about country that has her citizens at heart unlike ours whose leaders are only for their pockets.

When I watched a documentary about China Biggest Dam I understand the reason to have good and honest person at helm of government.

The Dam was 2km long and 60 storeys tall.
It will take 40,000 workers and 17 years to build and when it fully comes online, it'll generate 20,000MW of electricity for over 20 millions Chinese.

The amazing things about this Dam are:
1) The Chinese government has to relocate millions of people that will be displaced at the back of the river from the flood.
2) because of the large volume of the water that'll be retained, the dam will actually slow down the speed of the earth thou just by fraction.
3) The river is the longest river in China and one of the river for trade and transportation.
So because of this the trade and transportation activities will be disrupt and blocked after completion.

Guess what they do.....
They have to create artificial lift (like an elevator) for both the cargo ship and passenger ship.

For the cargo, it's a series of lock gate and the ship will be there for like 3-4 hours after filling the basin with water, this will lift the ship and take it to the other side of the river but for the passenger ship, this is too slow and taking much time.

So they have to build, a special lift where both the ship and the basin will be lifted by a very gigantic elevator to the other side of the river in less than 30mins.

I am very abreast with the developments in battery technology, and you and I will agree it is centered on energy storage. What fossils represent the most are energy generation and that is where it holds sway in the industry, right now, there isn't any other energy generating means that is more productive... Back to the major points you raised about batteries lasting long, what you should note is that the longer it lasts the higher it requires energy for full charge, at best solar gives you 6 to 8 hours of peak charge, except there is going to be a great improvement in battery charging technology in such a way that it doesn't damage the batteries, then solar would not be the most reliable of sources, forget about wind and hydro, you will fall back to fossils.

the technological advancement I expect should be in generating energy. Someone raised Nuclear energy as a point, but the politics with nuclear energy and the volatility of not just the sector but the product means there might not be much of a development in that region... we are all still wary of a fully nuclear earth.

I agree with him, despite the rise in other energy sources, the continuous demand for energy means fossil fuel will remain relevant well into early 2100s, the US knew this that was why there was an aggressive investment into Shale oil, but I predict that within the late 2000s to early 2100s a totally new, high capacity form and source of energy will be discovered that will totally eliminate and replace fossil fuels. That is the future Nigeria should be preparing for.

Meanwhile to better your energy chances, get a transformer today!
After you realize that there's a rise in other energy source you can still agree with him. undecided undecided undecided

There's a breakthrough in Li-on cell battery (the main storage medium for green energy) already, what they are trying to achieve now is extending it's life span because the current Li-on battery has a cycle of 3000 which means the battery will die off within 5-10years, but research is on going to replace the Graphite in current Li-on battery with Silicon, if this is achieved which will extend the Cycle to 10000, you'll see massive explosion in green energy that you haven't seen before.

Because with 10,000 cycle it means the battery can last more than 20years

Mind you, they have already seen the potential in Silicon to replace Graphite, which means btw now and 2025 the achievement will show face.

kpakpandoN:
Those who consider suicide as a viable option for handling the hardships of life do not realise that death is not the end of life. In other words, there is life after death. Job was a man who held on to this truth, even though he faced unprecedented calamities in his life. He said in Job 19:26:
“And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:”
There are two benefits of knowing and accepting that death is not the end of everything in life. One of these is that a person is compelled to behave wisely, knowing that he or she will face God’s judgment after death. Hebrews 9:27 says:
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
Also, when we realise that death is not the end of everything, it gives us hope of a better life beyond this world. This hope kept Job going in spite of the tragedies that befell him (Job 19:25-27)

I am happy to announce to you that not only is there life after death, there is also a coming event called the resurrection of the dead. The remarkable thing about the resurrection of the dead is that not only shall the just resurrect, the unjust shall also be resurrected to receive the rewards of their deeds in this world. Jesus said in Revelation 22:12:
“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”
Armed with this knowledge, if I were you, I would engage in good works that would earn me great rewards when Jesus returns.

Are you going through any form of affliction at the moment? You need to know that it will not last through eternity. Indeed, it has its own expiry date. So, don’t give up; just keep pressing forward towards the finishing line. Our Lord is coming soon to wipe away all your tears. Are you contemplating suicide as a means of escaping your crisis? Please don’t think of it anymore, because death is not the end of everything. All you need to do is reflect on the manner of life you have lived hitherto, and this will help you identify those things that are responsible for your present predicament. Once you ascertain those things, lay them all at the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ. Don’t ever believe that suicide is an escape route from crisis. Eternal crisis is awaiting everyone who refuses the salvation that Christ’s atoning work has earned for mankind. Have you received this precious gift? Accept Jesus into your life today and let His atoning Blood wash away your past into the sea of forgetfulness. Receive the peace of God into your life today in Jesus’ Name.

Apostle Paul has said it all

1 Corinthians 15:19 "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable."

Barristter07:
Address that Genesis 22:12 and stop been silly

So command his household automatically becomes choosing to know they will follow his command or not. ?? U just too dull .

God himself command and people still choose to obey or disobey.
If not because sawdust full your brain....you would have known that the emphasis isn't on WILL COMMAND but that God ALREADY KNOWS what Abraham can do.

If God already chose to know ALL matters of Freewill, Explain the words " NOW I KNOW " that he told Abraham ??
Look at the @underlined again...then rush inside pick all your credentials and throw them inside river because it's a waste.

If God chooses not to KNOW ALL MATTERS OF FREEWILL, how can He judge EVERY SECRETS of man?

Genesis 22:12
Then he said, "Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your only son from me."
Instead for you to simply say, you lack scriptural knowledge and you need enlightment.

Firstly, no single things is hidden or can caught God unaware in the universe.

Secondly, the fact that He allowed some things to happen doesn't mean He didn't know them before hand nor give verdict on it. Everything that happened, happened to the best knowledge of God....

Thirdly, God is dealing with human not Himself, so you should expect to see some certain human character being applied to God, like when David says "Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep"

Lastly, just as you agree that God decided not to destroy Satan after his rebellion against God because Satan throw a challenge and God wants everyone to SEE THAT SATAN WAS WRONG is the same thing that happened in the case of Abraham...Abraham is called the FATHER OF FAITH and God wants us TO SEE THE REASON he was called THE FATHER OF FAITH.

That's why Moses said in Deu 29:29 "The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law."

Enough of Bible study....class will resume later!
