Happy new year once again everybody. @olofofo I sent you an email about google group, thanks. |
The original purpose of tithe meant an act of worship, inquiry, appeasement and appreciation to a deity (God) hence the root hebrew term "ma'aser". This to me is quite different from you opinion on the general use/purpose of tithing for the levites and the poor (to feast people as you put it). For the origin of your purpose of tithe ascertion i'll say started from Moses and not from Abraham. How do i mean: The scriptures never told us that the tithe Abraham gave was given to any poor person or widowed for that matter neither was it used for feasting. Rather he gave it to a Priest, and the reason for this was not because The Priest never had any inheritance (like you think is the reason why levites take tithes) or whatever but because he stood in place on YHWH.
1. How many times in his life did Abraham ever pay/give "tithes"? 2. Apart from Melchizedek, to whom else did Abraham pay/give "tithes"? 3. Why did Abraham not continue to pay/give "tithes" to Melchizedek every month (or every year if you like)? |
Smart money is Avram Grant ------- his name is widely associated with this on the Net with some reasonable logic. |
@ George_D Yep, if they are all DSTV receivers and you only need channels on one polarity, well it may be that the loop-through arrangement will be okay. Certainly, however, the loop-through does have the limitation I mentioned. @Gangsta101 How now, long time indeed; merry Christmas to you and yours. @badaru Happy birthday and many happy returns @ All Once again, merry Xmas and a happy new year. ![]() |
enitan2002:Enitan, you have misunderstood. I am talking about individual channels not just one operator on a satellite. Say a channel is on 12522 V and the master receiver is tuned to it, the slave receiver in many loop-through arrangements will not be able to view a channel on e.g. 12722 H. It is a well known shortcoming of loop-through arrangements. In many instances, an operator's bouquet will include channels on both H & V polarities. Although if all the channels of say DSTV are on one polarity as you say, and you only want to watch that operator's channels, then you may get away with it. Question: what channels are currently watchable on the different receivers? |
Don't ever pay anybody for this kind of thing. |
@ Enigma, does that make the practise of tithing wrong?
The modern teaching and preaching of "tithing" is certainly wrong. If you check several other threads, I have in the past argued very strongly against it. A very short summary:1. Tithing is not a compulsory requirement for a Christian 2. Tithing does not have any greater spiritual significance (or attached blessing) than voluntary 'grace' 'giving'. 3. Nevertheless, if a Christian knows the truth (as in 1 & 2 above) and yet chooses to "tithe", that is perfectly fine. 4. However, bear in mind that many so-called pastors and preachers who teach the compulsory "tithing" nonsense are fraudulent and, as the Bible says, their god is their belly. |
@ enitan Do you require each receiver to be able to access all channels available from the dish at any time? If so, one problem you might have with a loop-through arrangement is that -- if the master receiver is tuned to one polarity e.g. V, then the other receivers will only be able to receive channels from that same (e.g. V) polarity. I know that the quattro-multiswitch arrangement may be more expensive and I don't know if you can get a quattro LNB in Nigeria, but that arrangement is much neater, not to say safer, and each receiver will operate independently as if it is connected to its own dish and LNB. |

Enitan, how now; yes, long time --- I have just been preoccupied and have only visited very very occasionally and for a few minutes. As far as your project: i will check some more with experts in that particular side and get back to you. From what I know, the way they do such projects is by using something called a "quattro" LNB (quite different from a quad) with a multi-switch and through these you can feed several receivers. This is common here for blocks of flats or for hotels and things like that. As i said if I get any better ideas, I will come back and post. PS You can also google 'integrated reception system'. ![]() |
ogajim:I really like this way of putting things. ![]() Happy Christmas and prosperous new year to one and all. ![]() |
enitan2002:I think George_D is right that as this is a corporate organisation, it is better to do things correctly and as 'legally' as possible. Meawhile happy Christmas and prosperous new year to all. ![]() |

Hmmm, I see that interest is developing in the Diseqc/USALS motor (aka H-H motor); i predicted some time ago that this would happen. Actually there are instructions, pictures and videos in some of the threads from last year; one that I found on a quick search (there are others, I know) is from the following link especially post numbers 848-855. www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-7715.832.html PS @ enitan in the photo 2 pages back, you will need to be careful that the cables into the motor do not keep snagging out as the motor moves; see how this is handled in the photo in the link above. I may only be able to pop in here once in a while like this because of busy-ness. ![]() |
Hi all; long time; I see many new names too. Well done for keeping the flame alive; hope to be contributing again every now and then. ![]() |

For those who can receive Intelsat 905 @ 24.5w, apparently there is a feed for Channels on 4061 R 2848 2/3. Can't receive it, so can't confirm it. Edited |

@ seunoluomo Please post your question on this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-242036.2464.html Many more people including sellers/dealers/installers will be able to give answers. |
Thanks odilibe; that is very helpful. ![]() Edited: indeed from your post and further thought, I am coming to the conclusion that the CRTV is truly probably from the African beam of 28 east. Further edit: here is the footprint map of the Nigerian beam of Astra 2B 28.2e; it is evident how signal from that beam will be booming strong in Nigeria/Ghana/W Africa: http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/astra2b_nigeria.html |
I think our Ghana-based members will probably be in a better position to find out more info about CRTV as it seems a considerable part of their facilities are there; it also seems that their business services are run from there. So, Gh folks pick up a phone and start enquiring! http://www.crtv.org/facilities.html http://www.crtv.org/contact_us.html PS The CRTV folk do not put the satellite from which their transmissions can be downlinked on their website; maybe, they are afraid of FTA-folk ![]() |
dvbguy:Yes, I reported that here quite some time ago! Edited: perhaps to clarify ---- it is indeed possible that the 12599 CRTV is coming from the African beam of (edited) |

@ toxnaija Belated birthday greetings and best wishes! ![]() @ All Regarding this CRTV and "Eurobird". I have said previously in this link that CRTV is not on 28.5e (i.e. Eurobird 1). From what members receiving it have said, I believe it is on Eurobird 2 at 25.5e. Yes, some receivers may mislead by seeming to get it on 28.5 east when in reality the signal is from 25.5 east. This is a well known phenomenon i.e. bleed over of signal from a strong satellite overriding a weaker satellite and seeming to come from the weaker satellite. Just to add to this point, it is inconceivable at present that one will get signal from 28.5e in Africa with a 90cm dish! Generally, you need at least a 2.4m dish. Edited: I did suggest at the time as well that the CRTV might be on the African beam of 28 east but in the end I thought the better conclusion was that it is on 25.5 east. |
Allta:I have highlighted this post and bolded a part of it because it captures my attitude to some of the discussions of tithing on this thread and others and why I refuse to engage in debate on irrelevant or secondary issues. I too have found that looking for small mistypes or minor inaccuracies or even misrepresenting what people had in fact said quite accurately, when put in context, totally detracts from the essential issues. Things like "Christianity is/is not a religion"; oh you opponent of tithing once said "tithing is perfectly OK" and several other examples of such pettiness, I find to be a waste of time not advancing discussion. I think the central points being made by opponents of the modern teaching of "tithing" remain simple; overwhelmingly, "tithing" is being taught to Christians as an obligation (this is wrong and should be opposed); teach people the truth i.e. they have freedom whether or not to "tithe"; if a Christian does indeed know the truth and yet chooses to tithe then that is "perfectly OK". Very simple!!! As the title of the thread clearly implies and as opponents of the modern teaching of "tithing" have said repeatedly - a main motivation for challenging the teaching is the clear evidence of the prevalence of abuse and false teaching of the "doctrine". |
olofofo:Congrats olofofo, Olorun a woo, a daa si o; best wishes to all your family. |
Hi Allan Bumba When you did the factory reset that made the receiver revert to its original software. You need to load an 'unofficial' software/firmware which is sometimes called a 'patch'. Such software can be found on some websites including http://www.maldiviandigital.com/satellite-tv-receiver-section/satellite-tv-receivers/fortec-star/ (you will have to register before you can get the software). NOTE be careful (a) that you get the correct software for your particular receiver (I think there are different models e.g. Plus/Lifetime/Ultra etc); (b) make sure you first read carefully and understand the tutorials on how to load the software to your receiver. Good luck. |
@ All The more I look at STRONG brand of receivers and their interfaces, the more they look like CoolSat receivers here in North America. It seems to me that Coolsat is Marketing their products in other parts world as "STRONG." Just a thought.
Indeed Coolsat, Technomate, Clark-Tech, Strong all belong to one family and sometimes even have the same/similar GUI and external casing (though, importantly, their softwares are not identical). It seems they are all made (normally?) by a company called Hubtech which operates mostly out of Korea (and possibly/allegedly also out of China or something). |
Phony200:Thank you so much for expressing my sentiments totally and completely! ![]() Congrats to the G.O.A.T. ![]() |
salamander:You use a dielectric when the satellite/transponder you are chasing use circular polarity e.g. instead of 11823 H you have 11823 R (i.e. Right); or instead of 11823 V you have 11823 L (i.e. Left). Sometimes, if the signal is strong, you might not need the dielectric. Our regular 11823 H/V use linear polarity. (PS I hope I've got all that the right way round) |
Why copy and paste someone else's work (and so long at that), when you can simply provide a summary and give the link: http://ftafilesforum.com/satellite-tv/ ? |
