The way you people demean women on this platform is just scary. I wonder why Africans always find ways to explore every possible line that can divide them: religion, tribe, country, class, etc. And now, y'all have managed to create one along gender lines as well. Grown ups behaving like hormone driven teenagers. |
Lol... funny the things we preserve. By the way, there's no museum called the Fela Museum in Paris, is there? |
Why is it extremely difficult to have a reasonable adult conversation with some males on this platform? Why do they type like tribal people or kids at best? These are the men the ladies will end up with as husbands? Wow. |
I am all for a two-parent home when possible. I said when possible cause I believe the peace of mind of both the parents and the well-being of the children have far more higher priority than anything else. Of course, parents sometimes make the sacrifice of staying together just for the children. But there should be a limit to that cause a two-parent family where domestic violence is the order of the day is still far worse than a one-parent family. And a frustrated father or mother is hardly ever a good influence on the children. Therefore, when divorce is the only answer, I say take it. People don't usually get married with the plan of divorcing later. Divorce is like burial. Nobody likes burial, doctors do thier best to avoid it. But you don't shy away from doing it when the bucket has been kicked. Meanwhile, the gender dichotomy in our society is a major contributing factor to issue in question. We must learn to respect each other and manage our expectations. You pointed out how ladies contribute to the problem with thier unrealistic expectations and even exemplified with Linda Ikeji. And that's perfectly true. However, it's also worth mentioning that our men have unrealistic expectations of women as well. It's as if we sometimes forget we are products of the same society and that these ladies don't fall from heaven. Men have evolved over time. But somehow, we still want our women to be like our mothers who spent thier lives cooking, washing, cleaning and taking care of the home including their husbands. That's not practical cause they've evolved too, and we need to learn to give them space to dream and pursue thier dreams just like we do. Linda Ikeji aside, we have many male celebrities who have wholeheartedly subscribed to the baby-daddy trend, and these are some people's role models. That said, I believe the issues you mentioned only serve to usher in the next level of civilization. When you realize that your non working wife will take some of your money in the case of divorce, you'd insist she works the same number of hours as yourself while you also partake in home keeping. When women work hard and earn as men do, standard of living will go up. When standard of living goes up, cost of living will also go up. When cost of living goes up, it becomes difficult for an individual to run a family regardless of gender. When it's difficult for an individual to run a family, then one partner must pay child support to the other. When you consider the idea of paying child support while still not having the opportunity to watch your child grow up, you might end up figuring better ways of resolving your issues instead of divorcing your spouse. |
Rexxie234:Lol... Calm down, oga. If you just wanted to share how you feel, you would have gone ahead to do just that without asking others to drop the names of people whose comments they hate. So drop the act cause it's obvious you just wan to catch cruise. By the way, what made you so sure the guy was joking? You don't think anyone would give your name as a response? Lmao. |
You probably need to review how you title your articles. Security Rescues UNN Lecture After Smashing Head Of Female Student VIDEO/PHOTOS. I assume you meant to type "lecturer". However, with that corrected, the title still implies it was the security that smashed the student's head. Meanwhile, I think the dude should be charged to court. You don't have the right to assault anyone, student or not. |
Beebah321:The person excited to get a response from her knows the value of that response to him and his career. If she's worthless to you, let those that appreciate her worth appreciate her. You could have just scrolled pass the thread, dude. Seriously, when will some of you on this platform start being more logical and stop this primitive attitude of always baring your fangs at everything like some uncivilized people of an uncontacted tribe? Have you not been to other forums to see how people contribute to threads only when they have something reasonable to say? Why the childish bickering on Nairaland? Is it lack of education or does poverty affect IQ this badly? |
christistruth01:So a presidential candidate must build a new party for his candidacy to be valid? Do you even know the implications of what you're saying? Dude, let's criticize intelligently, please. |
lhordspy:They were actually attacked: https://www.nairaland.com/7564222/thugs-attack-vehicles-conveying-obidients#120811624 So another way to ask the question would be, why always attack the Igbos? However, sentiments aside, I think we should all stand up against violent politics regardless of who's getting attacked at the moment. This attitude of quickly rushing to take a side or make light of another group's plight only makes things worse for the country. |
What won't y'all do for attention? |
TheNiceGuy:Speaks* Get your grammar right before calling out another person. |
Biodundimeji:You guys that always rush to defend one gender are extremely narrow minded. Your herd mentality do not allow you see the big picture. I am a man who cares about humanity well enough to know and call attention to the dangers of gender dichotomy especially in Africa. I did not even blame the guy, but if I did that would still be very valid. And if you think otherwise, then you're a monster. If you think jumping the original cause of the ugly situation to advise the woman should have been my first line of action, then you're a risk factor to the people around you. Meanwhile, my comment was a call in favor of raising the kind of men we'd like our daughters to be with. We spend time caging the girls, making sure they cook well, come home early, dress well, respect others, etc. while we let the boys do whatever. At the end, these same girls we're molding still end up in the same society as the boys we neglected. What do you think would happen? We see this happen all time. One gender cannot bear the burden of maintaining morality in your society. Hold your children equally accountable and make the world a safe place. Stop thinking like a teenager. |
So a grown up dude brought a kid into your shared room and had his way with her? One day, African parents will realize that the challenges faced in raising the girl child are as a result of the negligence of the boy child. Your girl child will have a better life the day you start holding the boy child as accountable as you hold the girl child. Sad. |
Why are you learning how to drive a manual car in 2023? It's like learning how to use a typewriter. Nigerians have this mindset that something isn't valuable until it's hard. That manual you're learning, you might never ever apply the skills once you're done with your training. And even if years later, you find yourself in a emergency situation where you'd have to use a manual car, you'd still not be able to drive it cause you'd have forgotten everything you learned. So what exactly is the point of learning how to drive a manual car? Wait, did you say 5 days? So y'all just spend a few hours a day for 5 days and start driving in Nigeria? Learning how to drive isn't just about being able to drive a vehicle from one point to another. You need to know some basic traffic laws, the conventions, the road signs, etc. You learn all these in 5 days and still master clutch/gear engagement, steering control, reversal/packing techniques, etc.? Wow... Meanwhile, don't ever let anyone tell you that learning how to drive automatic alone implies you cannot drive. We learned manual only cause we needed it. It's just in the nature of Nigerians to make whatever skills they suffered to acquire seem superior to modern ways of doing things. It probably makes them feel good about themselves. |
omonnakoda:You carefully ignored everything I wrote to chase shadows. I studied languages. I teach foreign languages. It would be a shame if I couldn't tell who writes better. There's really no point wrangling with you over this. I have made my point. I don't have time for you or your friend who was trying to shame someone else with his poor command of the English language. Tell him to check himself before shaming others next time. |
omonnakoda:Smh... So you that write better, you are English? Dude, basic proficiency implies that one is able to form basic sentences, including asking and answering simple question. The person I quoted couldn't form a very simple question. So what exactly are you on about? It's not like he wrote a long paragraph and mistakenly typed "on" instead of "in" somewhere. It was supposed to be a simple question, and the way he wrote it made it clear that he doesn't know the basic structure of an interrogative sentence in the English language. You don't want me to shame him, but it's okay for him to shame another individual who is obviously far more talented than he is? Interesting. Aside from being a language, English is a subject taught in school just like biology, mathematics, etc. If, as a secondary school leaver, you say 2 + 2 = 5, it is shameful because you're expected to know the right thing even though you're not a professional mathematician. Likewise, when you can't form a simple sentence after studying English for 6 years, it is shameful. It is not about being English or not, it is about not being able to show a good result after studying a subject for many years. Like they say, whatever you do, do it well. Do not make excuses for mediocrity. Good morning. |
omonnakoda:So why are not typing in Yoruba? |
jumper524:Lol... it seems your English went down with him. |
YinkaOlusesi16:Tiwa has contributed her quota. Tiwa and Yemi were amongst the people that exported afro pop to the rest of the world. Whether you like her lifestyle or not, you mustn't denigrate her or undermine her efforts just to praise another. She's still the most popular Nigerian female musician out there. You people say women are women's problem, but y'all always start with the bitter comparison. This one is now "Temitope to the world" today, tomorrow she'll be "female musicians are hoes" or "Nigerian girls are useless". |
Did she hurt anyone when she was alive? Did she scam any man off his money? Y'all truely believe that the lady you once loved, the lady who contributed her quota to the church, was a terrible person because she felt more comfortable as a woman? The narrow mindedness of the African society is just alarming. |
yetunsbay:Truthfully, I don't know who will win. Anyone of them could. The most important thing is that people go out to vote thier preferred candidate. |
These are select replies, I suppose. Like someone above said, the guy only said he wouldn't vote Tinubu, and the attackers quickly concluded he was campaigning for Obi. What of Atiku? Or does this mean Obi is actually the main concern of APC supporters? The same people that said he didn't have structures and couldn't win an election? Politics is interesting. I don't know who will win, but I beseech y'all not to just pray for a good leader but to also come out and vote. |
The same people that call out white supremacists are here defending a gender supremacist. The hypocrisy of black men stinks to high heavens. What y'all fail to understand is that your logic shoots you in the leg. |
vastolord4:I clearly stated the reason why Putin is in Ukraine. If you don't see it, that's a "you problem". |
vastolord4:Read the last paragraph again. This time, slowly. |
FreddieGray:How is this a response to what I wrote? How does this justify anything? Please, some of y'all should just remain in the romance section. |
vastolord4:You anti-west people are no longer processing things logically. The US isn't mounting a base in China, Russia or any country that doesn't come into agreement with them. You send something right into another man's territory without any prior agreement, and start complaining when he shoots it down. Even when the US expressed concerns, they didn't withdraw. How does that make sense? Tell me one country that would take that? Isn't it obvious China wants to make a major move and they're looking for something to hold on to as the cause of escalation? And please, y'all already know that Putin's war in Russia has nothing to do with the prospect of an American military base in Ukraine but his desire to take over the regions he so much wanted. |
Your internet space is full of things that you like. |
There's a difference between nobody can do, and nobody has done. I think she meant the later. I don't believe her anyway. |
Hhmm.... is he really luckier than a man who has never been in a life threatening situation? Perspectives, I guess. |
Do they need orders to do thier job? |
That statement was probably a strategy to demoralize Peter Obi's supporters. |
