Is it the "President" or the "Presidency" that spoke on TV? Is Femi Adesina the President? Is there any position like "the Presidency" in the constitution? Why is it that it is always "the Presidency" that talks to the people instead of the "President". If the "President" occasionally comes out and speaks to his people (I don't mean read scripts to his people o!), and the supposed "Presidency" speaks, we can understand. But where the "Presidency" always speaks, then there are several questions in need of answers!!! |
There is something these people (Buhari and the ex service chiefs)are not telling us. So, is this immediate appointment a compensation or strategy to keep them qu..t or on his side? |
Chai! This is unfortunate and it evidences the lack of preparedness by the leadership of this country. In fact, by three months before this man was due for retirement, we should have known the next man, or the president should have hinted the next man/woman and prepare the person for leadership of the police. Extending an tenure for three months even after the tenure had lapsed is tinkering with our laws. This one that sensitive officer holders tenures are extended, I hope there won't be further tinkering with our laws, particularly the constitution (on extension of tenure)? I am just saying my own! |
Stupidity!!!!! |
As expected, the Federal Government of Nigeria by its well-known spokesmen [you know them] will say this report is incorrect. They may even add that it is done in connivance with the opposition party. They will then make reference to pre-2015 and say, "under the previous administrations bla bla bla, corruption was rife. But under our administration, we have jailed many corrupt officials. We have even indicted Magu, etc". Watch out!!! If I were the President, I won't give any excuses and make any comparison with "previous government". I will simply put my team together to forge a way to better Nigeria by the next Transparency International assessment. But what do I know? I am not the president!!! |
To be completed in 2022? We sincerely hope so, but it is highly unlikely. |
My patience ran out as I was struggling to listen. So, I stopped listening when I checked that I'd have to endure for 3 minutes or thereabout. |
Enduring peace? |
Congratulations Dr. Also congratulations to all your colleagues that toiled to overcome the stress of studying in Nigeria. |
What if someone does this to seek people's sympathy for 2023? Politicians can do anything including fainting (you remember?) to seek sympathy. |
Are public primary and secondary school teachers and workers not civil servants? So, why will they resume on 18 January 2021? |
If 15 million eligible youths vote for a candidate as a President of Nigeria, that candidate will win. But this is Nigeria where youths will endorse youthful A and vote for aged B when the chips are down. Money for electioneering to be used by "aged B" will be in the cooler by now. SMH for Nigeria. |
Africa is not ready to be liberated. Nigeria inclusive!!! Shame!!! |
Why did the Nigerian government wait this long after further deterioration of the refinery for the revamp? SMH! |
Generally, not a bad speech. It shows that the government understands that it's yet to meet its promises, so it's hoping to meet the promises it made to the people. My concern however is in paragraph 15. I understand that the president would not come out in public and acknowledge the business of kidnapping, but giving kudos to the security men, I'm not sure that is correct (please, I said I'm not sure o. I did not say he is wrong o!). I think however, the "collaborators" may be the ones that should have the kudos for "securing the release" of the "kidnapped" boys. On Covid-19 I hope that the vaccine will not be administered first on privileged few (e.g. politicians), but on the vulnerable (e.g. elderly, health workers, etc). The downside of the speech is the reference to 2015. It's almost predictable that this president's speech will subtly or outrightly blame the last administration(s). In all, I wish the leadership of this president well. Happy New Year. |

Well done Asisat. |
I don't know about payment of money for this unwarranted advertisement. As you can see from my first sentence, the pastor, in my opinion was wrong. Whether the sermon lasted for one hour or less, every statement in a sermon must be edifying. So, if a good amount of time is used to sell the candidature of a person and make him pass through people's throat, that sermon is tainted. Allow the people to decide their political fate. In my opinion, the pastor should not fight this cause of defending his action. He should simply refrain from doing the act again. If he apologizes to his congregation, he'll be regarded more as a humble person. |
A request by a member of the National Assembly for the impeachment of the President is legal. Whether the impeachment will take place or succeed is a different ball game. Why sanction a lawmaker who's relaying the requests of his constituents? |
I equally do not like what Pastor Bakare did. How could he use a church service meant for preaching the word of God and/or admonishing the people for good living, to be praising a man. To me, the pastor went off track. |
When Nigerians are not looking forward to buying a commodity, which is now so expensive, why will there be scarcity of that product? Why will there be scarcity of fuel, when cost of transportation is over the roof? Why will a commercial driver look for fuel that is beyond his imagination in terms of costs. So, there is fuel, but it is more expensive than imagined. On the other hand, those who are looking forward to buy fuel or use services that will require fuel, do not have the means to meet their expectation because the economy has been wrecked. |
I thought I read somewhere, where Garba Shehu said only 10 boys were kidnapped. If my memory serves me well, how come over 300 boys were released? If my thought is wrong, my apologies. |
Designtobuild:Great lesson of life. Thank you for figuring this lesson out of the situation. |
It appears to me that this panel is being positioned not to succeed. I think their terms of reference should have stopped at police brutality. Lekki toll gate shooting should not have been included in their terms of reference. |
Why must it always be "the presidency said"? When will it be "the president said", and we see him actually making this kind of statement? I want him to succeed but not some persons taking the shine instead of him. |
blackgold90:You understand why the "powers that be" want Jonathan. Hope he does not fall for it because they will do all to ensure that he gets elected, but GEJ may eventually be hated by his own people when their eyes open. |
blackgold90:Makes sense. But I smell a bait!! |
In as much as I believe that GEJ is capable of taking Nigeria at least an inch away from the current quagmire, I'll advise that he should not imagine to return. I smell some sinister things being cooked up by certain "powers that be" for GEJ to do a constitutional 4-year term. I don't think those that call for him to come back are doing so for the love of the man (GEJ) or Nigerians in general. I'll beg our ex-president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, of the south-south region of Nigeria not to listen to persons that are calling him to return to Aso Rock. |
GreyLaw:What justice? Tenants will be in another man's house and will refuse to pay rent or leave because a case he has filed is pending at the Supreme Court. Is that justice to the land owner and to the society? What justice? Two parties will enter into an arbitration agreement, and when an award is given, one party will go to court to set it aside on frivolous reason, and keep the matter at the Supreme Court. Is that justice? What justice? A lawyer will at the High Court apply for stay of proceedings and when the court refuses the application so that the matter will be heard, the lawyer appeals to the Court of Appeal and further to the Supreme Court. Is that justice? My friend, that is using the instrumentalities of the law to create and perpetuate injustice. The Supreme Court of Nigeria should be for very serious cases, not for frivolities. |
Frivolous appeals like stay of proceedings pending appeal, landlord and tenancy matters, setting aside or enforcement of arbitration award should not go close to the Supreme Court. All such appeals should end at the Court of Appeal. These frivolous appeals delay justice, and sometimes kill justice, parties sometimes die while waiting for justice! If any lawyer represents any party that files a frivolous appeal to the Supreme Court, that lawyer should be sanctioned either with the payment of fine or suspension from practice for a given period (e.g. 2 years suspension). |
Next time, Nigerian electorates should vote for true leaders as President(s), governors, etc and true representatives of the people as States and National Assembly members. Unfortunately, Nigerian electorates don't disappoint in doing the unreasonable. They'll collect money to vote for the wrong persons and complain about leadership later. SMH |
Is the Bauchi State Government House as big as the entire state? What an excuse, that it was built by the military!! Was Aso Rock not built by the military? So, Aso Rock should be renovated!! If we use Bauchi State House as the yardstick for determining how much it would cost to "renovate", I wonder how much it will cost to "renovate" Aso Rock. |
