PoliticsRe: Why We Hate Nigeria So Much - By The Diasporians A.ka. Nigerians Abroad! by Guk: 11:08pm On Nov 02, 2009
Nigerian Diaspora commission is the most unintelligent thing i have ever heard in my adult life, 1st and foremost, who said the "Diasporans" left Nigeria with the aim of acquiring knowledge to come back & develop Nigeriahuh?

A sizable % left for BETTER LIFE whether by Student Visa route or Work permit route or Managed immigration route.

Why are you trying to create an "ARYAN" race within Nigeria?? Its bad enough that Diasporan are been rewarded with juicy roles as they flock back home simply becos they are "been to" or as labelled during OBJ's time, "Brain Gain" Why do they want to institutionalise "Class Citizenship" in Nigeria because as it stands now, Oyinbos are 1st Class citizens in 9ja; Diasporans are 2nd class citizens in 9ja; Nigerian professionals are 3rd class citizens in their own country, so u can imagine what class the "not well do" will be in.

Who says the "Undiasporans" dont have what it takes to develop this country??

Why would a Diasporan trust this so called Vultures called Politicians??

Is Abike not aware that its enabling environment that provided the less than average nigerian who went abroad to thrive & excel?? Put in an enabling environment & see whether we would have any Diasporan, we wont because the environment there wld be here.

Its obvious that Abike Dabiri-Erewa is just seeking relevance like any other politician, she's not productive just like her other colleagues in the house.

I have worked in England & I have worked in Nigeria, if i had my way, i will live in England and work in Nigeria until an enabling environment exists

Whether its Fashola or Tinubu, all of them are birds of the same feathers, obsequious people if not why has he not pulled down any Mosque in illegal locations in lagos or when did Under the Bridge become a legitimate place of worship.

2ndly, what are the achievements of late Justice Muri Okunola that he got the huge garden in V.I. named after himhuh is it because his son worked under Tinibu & now works under Fashola overseeing land acquisition in Lagos & it still takes the common man ages to get land allocation in lagos?

TravelRe: Bellview: The Worst Airline In Nigeria. Don't Try It! by Guk: 11:13pm On Aug 27, 2009
@Hortongate. truly, there is no excuse for poor service & after having flown to Village Airports in Europe this summer, i conclude that even though Airlines generally in this recession period leave much to be expected, there is something wrong with the average Nigerian Service provider.

I bought a Virgin Atlantic Ticket for my 2 year old daughter @ =N=202,000 ds summer, Common Virgin Kids Backpack, she was not given on d Los-LHR leg. I asked for it & d excuse was, they didnt brng from London,,, so i waited for her return journey, she still wasnt given.

As for the food. you really cant blame them because its a Nigerian company ASL that cooks the food for the Airlines. The food on VA was crap as well.

I flew EasyJet from Gatwick to Montpellier & back, Nothing to complain about, in fact they went about their work professionally.

I flew B.A. to Barcelona & back, paid for a Full seat for my daughter but they still made her sit on her mother's lap in a Sardine Tin like plane called Boieng757. Am asking for my refund sha. Refreshments was not a problem & they were safety conscious.

Having said all of this, we need to wake up concerning Customer service in Nigeria

Music/RadioRe: Nigerian Cd's Are Too Cheap! by Guk: 4:53pm On May 29, 2009
A major factor that determines the cost of CD is the Marketer (usually found in Alaba Market)

This is the Defacto, apart from 1 or 2 artistes: You sing a Song; Record it in the Studio; Hand Over the Master Copy to the marketer in Alaba; Sign a contract wth him to sell 100,000 copies for which the singer gets a % (usually paltry). You beg the Marketer to allow you sell a few copies to you family and friends b4 he floods the market.

Why do artist use Marketershuh There is the fear that if you try to do it yourself, you will Liquidate patapata (Losses go full ground) Truth is the marketers control the reach of your album.

Now, why are the CDs cheaphuh The Marketer wants to make Maximum ROI in a fiercely competitive market, so he goes to China & buys what you call "Play Once" CDs & since you buy them on the streets for =N=150, if it spoils, the logic is, its cheap enof to buy another one.

So, the marketer goes for the cheapest CD; the cheapest Duplicator; the cheapest Printer & the cheapest Distribution medium in order to maximise his own profit.

After a certain volume has been sold, anything above that volume, you are meant to collect Royalty. Well, become Big first, before you even dream of that or else the marketer will tell you that he will not take your Master another time, that you are not good biz for him?? What do you dohuh

Thats 1 reason amongst many why CDs are cheap

Interesting reading various comments.

I.d like to add the following:

(1) Anywhere in the world, Taxis are for those who can afford it & to buttress the point, may i ask how many of Nairalanders have taken Taxi in London as they do in Nigeria?

(2) Concerted efforts are bn made by those who can afford it to put buses on the streets of Lagos. For instance, BRT Buses run to & from Festac/Marina route & those who want little comfort prefer it to the Danfo/Liteace/Hiace Buses. Indication that things can work.

(3) Water Transportation is complimenting the above 2, so, Kudos to a thinking Govt.

(4) Basscomm, 1 of the Licensed cab operators do not own the 200 cabs, the cabs are owned by investors like you & i who own 1 or 2 cabs & all they do is manage the running of it. So its a case of working SMART & not working HARD

I am very careful in singing Fashola's praise as if he has done what no man can do. Leadership is not Rocket Science but we have a situation in Nigeria where some pple here were born in the days when Innovation had been killed & they know no better than hardship; dog eat dog; a man swallows all etc, so when someone does what he ought to do by virtue of his position, he is praised to high heavens. My prayer for Fashola is that those praises will not get into his head as those who hailed Ceaser were the same who hailed Brutus. Human beings are fickle

How many of our Leaders can Honestly say this below & How many of us Nairalanders will behave like this, if & when, we find ourselves in positions of authourityhuh

I would like to mention that for the entire twelve years that I was governor of Judah, —neither I nor my officials drew on our official food allowance.

This was quite a contrast to the former governors who had laid heavy burdens on the people, demanding a daily ration of food and wine, besides a pound£ of silver. Even their assistants took advantage of the people.

But because of my fear of God, I did not act that way.

I devoted myself to working on the wall and refused to acquire any land. And I required all my officials to spend time working on the wall.

I asked for nothing, even though I regularly fed 150 Jewish officials at my table, besides all the visitors from other lands!

The provisions required at my expense for each day were one ox, six fat sheep, and a large number of domestic fowl. And every ten days we needed a large supply of all kinds of wine.

Yet I refused to claim the governor’s food allowance because the people were already having a difficult time.

Remember, O my God, all that I have done for these people, and bless me for it. Nehemiah 5:14-19

Am begining to find this post & reactions to it hilarious, for a number of reasons.

By the way, i am an up to date Tax payer, both in Lagos & in Uk where i pay 40%, but reading a number of peoples reactions, i dare say, that we will revisit these submissions in a few years time and would like to read our "Honourable" Submissions then, Why do i say thishuh You will over taxed by Stealth that you will so cry out that nobody, by then will be able to rescue you. Are you aware that for every flat you build in a block, you must now pay 500k Devt Levy per flat?? thats why one of his commisioners was gloating recently that they made =N=18bn this year from such charges & mark you, this is not the only one, dem plenty well well. Anyway, some of us are already used to paying Taxes in UK Paye; Council; Capital Gains; T.V License etc

The worst part of it is, as nobody, including Mashkov & Eastbay are not challenging our Pastors/Imams on how they spend our offerings and the Pastors/Imams are getting away with it, so is Lagos State getting away with it. Una go see wen!!! Make you still dey mouth Eko O ni Baje, na Una pocket go feel am well well. But on a more serious note, we are all armchair critics. Nairaland has over 300,000 members & we are not yet a pressure group & as long as that persists, our leaders will get away with anything

Uptill today, who has held Tinubu accountable for anythinghuh Nobody!!!

@ Mashov,

there is a Maxim that goes thus: One who comes into equity must come with clean hands.

Before reaching conclusions, it is good to ascertain your facts, there are churches & eveangelism work being presently carried out by Nigerians all over Africa including Angola that you mentioned, in fact, Redeemed has presence in Angola & practically all countries in Africa. I am not an advocate for RCCG, the RCCG Church can speak for itself but as the maxim above goes, you Mashov, have you proved yourself first before castigating others? Have you fulfilled your Tax Obligations to the Letterhuh What % of your bank account do u use for the less priviledge? How often to you release your Computer to less priviledge when you are not using it.

I as a person, i consider what i do first before i criticise others. Its noteworthy

In this world, there are divergent perspectives but its your own perspective that determines your decision at the end of the day for which the outcome may be Favourable or may be Unpleasant.

Do you know that its possible that if NL existed in the days of S.U & Deeper Life, some people would have criticized them to death about their doctrines, style of life and mode of dressinghuh

Your own Response (Positive or Negative) to any Event in life determines the Outcome (Favourable or Unpleasant) you get at the end of the day

How many of us who criticize others for not helping the poor have actually consistently & will continue to help the poor? Are you not aware that by fact of you reading this on NL, you are richer than Billions of others?

What have have you done or thought to do for the road sweeper in Lagos or her children? You accuse of whoever charging so much for private education fees, how many kids in your neighbourhood have you given free lessons? Let he who thinks he stands beware,

There is nothing wrong in Constructive Criticism, but there is Judgemental attitude in Destructive Criticism & the unfortunate thing is that, once you adopt the latter, it reflects in every other area of your personal life & a lot of that accounts for where Nigeria & Nigerians are today, Retrogressive

TravelRe: Is Virgin Nigeria Fraudulent? I Cant Understand Their New Tactics by Guk: 11:10pm On Apr 16, 2009
Let me share my experience, it could help with omissions you might have made.

When you book but do not pay online & if you supply your email address, you usually receive a confirmation by email which contains 2 vital pieces of Infor: (1) A Reference Number & (2) The price advertised to you online as you booked.

If you quote the Ref Number or present a printed copy of the booking/reservation, you can never pay above the agreed amount.

Pls note that your booking/reservation without payment is valid for only 48hrs from when you made the booking online. The booking expires on the dot of the 48hrs which reverts you back to whatever fee is available at time of payment.

Other factors can come up as well e.g in Sept 2008, I booked on Virgin Atlantic but between my booking and payment, govt had increased fuel tax which the Airline promptly passed on to the customer.

For Regional & International flights, pls remember that they also swing along with the Pendulum of unstable $:-N- exchange rate.

As i said, the above is my own personal experience

I used to think that it was because i operate as a Service Management Professional that i see ZERO service culture in Nigeria, but the truth is, like a previous poster mentioned, there is a problem with our DNA.

I was priviledged to use the NHS (Hospital in Staines) a month ago and i was astonished to note that Human interaction is minimal & even where there is, there is courtesy. The receptionists who gave me directions were courteous & i later found out that they were volunteers. Blood test was clock work, no jumping of queue because a machine gave you (tally) number (nit like the kind of numbering you get at VFS British High Commision Agents in Lagos).

What blew my mind was when i was to do a Chest Xray, I did my Xray with my clothes on with results coming out within 5 mins. That immediately took me back to an Xray centre on Ayinde Giwa in surulere lagos where a few years ago after taking your xray, u wait behind to find our if d radiographer snapped well and then the film is taken outside to the sun to dry & you collect result the next day.

People of Nigeria, things need to change. We can be ctalyst to these changes if we demand for service based on Best practice
Foreign AffairsRe: Amazing Plane With More 150 Persons Crash Into The Sea And No Death! by Guk: 5:25pm On Jan 16, 2009
I had a conversation with a Fireman in Lagos in Sept 2008 & he acknowledged that things were very bad but had started changing with some new guy that was made the head of Fire Service in Lagos.

Whislt i do not want to bad mouth 9ja, the truth has to be told: THERE IS NO VALUE ATTACHED TO HUMAN LIFE HERE IN 9JA. When we had the 2 aircrashes; Bellview in Ogun state and Sosoliso in P.H, govt made noise about buying Search & Rescue Helicopters (of course, chop chop for d boys) we did not have common procedure on how to save someone who falls into a well.

Private companies are not exempt from the ignorance of safety instructions as well. (1) How many banks in 9ja today conduct HSE (2) How many orgs comply wth their HSE.
Once when the Alarm of an Oil & Gas went off, i promptly walked briskly down the Emergency exit only to find abandoned chairs & other stuff littering the Fire exit.

The most pathetic one is the 4 Towers of NNPC Abuja, where, when the alarm went off, majority of their staff did nt even budge.

Na we dey do ourselves

SportsRe: Nigeria In U-17 World Cup U-turn by Guk: 11:25pm On Oct 29, 2008
So what should Yar Adua do? Hosting a Tournament is not rocket science. We have great lessons on how not to host from Fifa World cup U19 we hosted in 1999; from COJA and we have all to learn from those who hosted successfully.

All that is required to host has already being compiled in a Checklist provided by FIFA. Yar Adua needs to identify those who can transparently deliver & ahnd over the Tournament to them as a Project. If need be, we outsource a number of things we know could end up in the Sports Ministers house after the games e.g Generator.

There are companies who would provide sufficient Standby power to the stadia for the duration of the tourney.

There are companies who would provide sufficient transportation for the duration of the tourney.

There are companies who would provide sufficient Mobile Scoreboards for the duration of the tourney

There are enough hotels to go round

There are enough stadia in Abuja; PH; Lagos; Kano that can be used for the tourney.

Let them outsource a number of the items mentioned above and concentrate on Planning & Execution of the games.

Lets not make a mountain out of a molehill with this tournament, theres more things worth discussing than the same old shenanigans of our corrupt minded old guard in administration
SportsRe: Nigeria In U-17 World Cup U-turn by Guk: 11:12pm On Oct 29, 2008
A "Knee Jerk" reacting President, unfortunately is a danger to any nation, It is absolutely clear that Yar Adua is incapable of running the affairs of this country. A President who reacts to a NoN Existent Food crisis in Nigeria by declaring to spend =N=80B & then changing tune after people shouted that it was a false alarm is suspect.

A President who PROMISED that he will declare an National Emergency on Power but still hasnt after 17th months can not be described as a stable decision maker.

A President who comes out to announce Niger Delta Ministry and a month after, no ministry, no employee, no minister leaves much to be desired.

A President who has Ministers that reflect his indecisiveness and inefficiency & doesnt know whether he should change them or retain them is totally a "Rudderless ship"

A President who does not understand the Financial crisis & hw its playing out in Nigeria & thinks we are talking about Kolanut money leaves much to be desired.

A President who pegs the FiFa U17 to =N=9b will see before his own very eyes how those guys will arm twist him to eventually spend the =N=37b. The guys who initially asked for the =N=37b will get their pound of flesh last last. These guys are battle tested wolves, they thrive on chopping our money & they would sabotage the preparations that Yar Adua will be forced to spend that =N=37b at the end of the day, Wait & See
