why not marry 100 women to satisfy your non trouble ego. Until we start respecting women in Nigeria, no form of economic  help or social change will turn that country to a better place. You guys can continue living in the past and holding on to your evil ways but be rest assured to remain that way until there is change in the average attitude of Nigerian men on maltreating women. To my yoruba brothers, wake up and start respecting your women because there lies your power to grow mentally and prosper. God is watching us from above.

@michelin, you see, you said education. How can a man with 5 wives and 36 children afford to educate them all on a N100 per month salary? Why won't they be tempted to take a trip to Italy when all their lives, they've been rejected, abused, recieved no help from randy wife collector dad, and exposed to greedy men that cares about nothing but their booty and boobs? How else can you empower your daughters if you deny them education? The truth is that many of these polygamists marry ten wives, ask them to go and carry loads for ibo traders in the market for a fee and bring back some change every night for his upkeep and gambling dues while he stays at home all day playing draft  because he is known as baba.  Our parents and grand parents generations may have made that mistake but I still can't believe that some men are still talking about that practice today.

@robert, since you are so CONCERNED about Nigerian women strolling the brothels because of no men to marry them, why did you stick to one wife? why not help US out by marrying as many as you can like your father did?

Again, I said that most of our poverty problems in Nigeria are man made and we can surtail it by a percentage through adopting simple measures like banning polygmy. I am positive that it'll reduce pain, suffering and hopelessness  seen in homes by a large margin. It's either a blind man or a selfish one that comes out here to preach that polygamy is there to help women out when the evils of polygamy is glaring. You can't solve yourproblems by covering it up, so wake up.

Also, women can survive and achieve their dreams whether they are married or not. I rather stay single my whole life that be a second wife.

I've heard some people claim that Ogboni is just a social status cult and all those things they talk about them killing people for rituals are mere myth. A friend once told me that Obasanjo is a born again ogboni member.

I don't know why you waste your time with selfish losers like Robert who refuse to see beyond a womans under panties and make a change for his future generation. I mean, even the so called rich Abiola, was he there for his children? he may have supplied the finance but the emotional aspect of raising a child was not there. The very many problems Kola is having may be linked to that factor and the funny thing is that he is following his fathers footsteps in polygamy gradually. Look at Obasanjo and his household etc. The truth is that polygamy may be practiced by christians back in the days but their population is going down by the day . If you are conversant, many yoruba guys that is in the 30's and 40's that still look unto practicing polygamy are moslems, the christian ones do not because they've seen the evil associated with it and can never practice it. How many ibo guys do you hear talking about polygamy and how they'll amass wives for themselves?

This is simple maths, if I earn 50K as a monogamist in a household of 4 and You earn 50K as a polygamist in a household of 12, who is richer? Besides, there is a higher chance for a monogamist's wife to be more educated because many educated women in Nigeria today will rather stay single than be your second best. Marriage is no more too important in defining a woman in the 21st century.  I am yet to hear one thing that is so attractive in polygamy except having a house full of liabilities.

can't we look beyond religion and see what this stupid practice is doing to our women and children because the men seem not to care. There is so much poverty in Nigeria and I saw it first hand last december and most of the families i witnessed their own firsthand are polygamous homes. In most cases, even when their baba is very rich, they still wallow in poverty because he's either too busy spending on new wives or the money will not be enough if it's shared accordingly among his many kids. I am sure some of us here came from a polygamous home and may not have the best story to show for it.

Agreed but if you look at modern day Nigeria very well, you'll realise that polygamy is very slim among christians. Why are the ibos and other south south tribes very behind in polygamy? why did they embrace monogamy so quick more than other tribes? check the yorubas, havent you noticed that  yoruba christians are behind in polygamy these days? Go to Ibadan and see the level of poverty and illiteracy brought by Islam and polygamy.   I think we start solving our problems by facing it and polygamy is one of them. Check the poverty rates and abuse  between  monogamous and polygamous homes on the average and tell me what you found.  Lets not talk about the North  because it's a no go area. What is a man doing with five wives when he can scarcely feed and love one?  Can someone please tell me ONE advantage of polygamy?

open your eyes very well you will see nigeria was a better place when people married many wives.  this one man one wife business is no good at all. women used to respect men and children used to know they are children but that is all gone now.

Why is it so difficult for you to say one single advantage of polygamy? Do you know that poverty will be reduced by about 20% if polygamy is banned in Nigeria? common,  tell me how life will be better for a man with three uneducated wives and 15 children on a N50K per month salary? If you want your wife to respect you, step up th plate and be a good husband. Stop using respect and ego as an exccuse to bring children into this world in poverty. Polygamy is evil and is one of the greatest plagues in Africa today.

To the Nigerian men here, I've been thinking about one single thing that can be called profit from polygamy but found nothing. Can you men especially the moslem men that glorifies the practice tell me one good reason to maintain the culture of polygamy?

I heard the yoruba ogboni cult is run and controlled by only non catholic christians. Is it true? Does it mean that lagos, Ogun and Oyo which are largely moslem states has no grip on the ogboni cult? what is the relationship between  the ogboni cult and anglican/methodist/presbyterian church? Is it true that they don't accept roman catholics? Did any of you hear their usual beheadings for sacrifices? is that true? or can it be a harmless cult? 

Why is a prophet important in your life? why not forget them and their prophecy or insight, pray and believe God for a miracle?

I think American pastors are interchanging the face of christianity in the world with hypocrisy and their culture keeps infilterating in most christian churches in Nigeria. How do we curb this.

There must be a captain in any ship, so goes the marriage. Headship in households by men came by ordination from God and not by their own making. It has nothing to do with men wielding powers over women. The beautiful thing about the bible is that it gave a space for those that will not like to abide by the rules of marriage to stay single.

I am a woman and will never ever try to emasculate my husband because I suddenly became successful financially more than him.

Have you askde yourself why we women always bring these issues whenever we hold the financil key? why do men always keep quiet whenever they provide for their homes but we women will turn around to bite and shout in only six months of our providing for our household.

Why are Nigerians complaining about Obasanjo when they'll be the first to zone presidency instead of supporting the right person regardless of tribe. My own is that even if it's Thambo Mbeki that can fix that nation with the fear of God, let him do. Our mentality is far behind thats why I blame the likes of Azikiwe that went and asked for independence prematurely. How do you vote for a man that wasted billions on festac when Nigeria was underdeveloped in agriculture, technology and education? We voted for the Egba man to dabaru the country and tell me who lost now? we and we except those of us here that gaineed one selfish thing or another from his govt.

On the good side, Obasanjo brought some sanity in Nigerian economic sector anyway. The decadence in Nigeria cannot be cleaned in 30 yrs and I don't think anybody can do it alone unless there is a concerted effort by all and sundry. Our banks are safre now, thanks to obasanjo, our naira maintained some stability over the dollar, thanks to obasanjo but poverty? from his own egabland to the boarders of maiduguri, poverty prevails.

What is the difference between what we do to our christian brothers and what we accuse the extremist Islamists of doing to other people in the world that does not share their religious belief?.

There are so many articles that points to the fact that pentecostals worship money and materialism? why is divorce so high inpentecostalism today with their intense knowledge of the bible? Almost every pentecostal preacher in America is divorced? Don't they also see God's injuction on divorce?. Will you also agree to that?

I've been to the catholic church over 10x in my life and have never seen them worshipping mary. How can they be worshipping mary when they themselves were very instrumental in the compilation of the early version of the bible that includes the 10 commandments? In our traditional Urhobo Culture the men are usually lazy and its the women who are the breadwinners of the house, but the man is still the king of the castle and makes all the major decisions.

It's in every culture. Some of my people marry dozens of women and send them out to carry loads in the market and also give them ultimatum to bring home big dividends at the end of the day for the man's upkeep and not his children. I can't generalize and call yoruba men lazy because of that because of a few miscreants. So I think you are wrong by saying that urhobo men are lazy because i know many that are not.

I saw the osu tread and remembered the oro festival in ondo state. Why does the govt allow such barbaric festivals that are characterized by behaeading innocent human beings to exist? My little cousin got missing three years ago during the oro festival, although there is no proof as to who kidnapped her, there is a strong indocation that the festival is responsible for her disappearance. What is the essence of this stupid unGodly festival? and why are we still preserving it in yorubaland in the name of culture? what does born again mean? I noticed that Nigerian christians always have a big problem with denomination quite unlike Americans. I think we worship more denomination than God in Nigeria. When pentecostalism started in full bloom in Nigeria, it came like a new hope and they promised their audience something extraordinary and more enchanting than their orthodox counterparts. Isn't that politics in religion? what happened decades after that? more and more scandals in churches especially the HOLY PENTECOSTALS. I am a pentecostal but the rate at which materialism is being worshipped in pentecostal churches today in the name of prosperity is alarming and It make me wonder whether pentecostal pastors would have agreed to go through the pains early orthodox missionaries went in evangelizing Africa. How mny of them will even agree to relocate to abeokuta or osogbon? It's always Lagos, PH, Abuja and Enugu. That is not the only cities in Nigeria that needs salvation. So, catholic, anglican or pentecostal, you have better things to do in the christendom than stay here and draw your lips. Oyo state needs evangelism because christianity is dying there.

How is OBJ's criminality associated with this? He may or may not do it. Again. the inclusion of the girls father sounds goofy and it seems Gbenga is like a drowning man groping for anything that will make him stay afloat. Something tells me he is lying.
