lagerwhenindoubt: Atheism is faced with a new challenge from a recently evolved brand of Atheism - known as ...You can't be christian atheist, the two words cannot be compounded. It's like blending light and darkness. |
chukwudi44: James 1:27Adulterated quote i should add. Here's the real thing. "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." (James 1:27). |
Pastor Kun: Olodo, I was going to refer you to James 1:27 but I see chukwudi as already done that. I hope you opened your thick skull and learnt something from that verse.Religion is good especially pure religion. But religion is not the gospel. i don't need to remind you of your blindness kunle, do i? |
Pastor Kun: Giving to the poor is an integral part of the gospel. It's a good thing but not an integral part of the gospel, except 'integral' has gotten a new meaning. |
Do you guys get some kind of joy/fulfillment from arguing about tithes? You've been saying the same or less than for more than four years now, most of you. Na wa o. |
Why do we major on non essentials? There's nothing wrong with celebrating easter, thanksgiving etc. You people are too religious, God needs righteous people not religious people. "One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." (Romans 14:5). |
What's wrong with shaking another's hand with the left hand, or collecting something from an older person with the left hand? We have people who make issues, and can get very furious about this. A wise person would use discretion and not create unnecessary trouble and scenes because he's now educated and has gone abroad. A foolish person will try to show everybody that he's right and doesn't care what others think or do. |
Joagbaje: It's one of the problem with religious people. Scriptures should be read with the technology of the day . You ought not to have apologized ,you ought to have corrected her. When people used to write on stones, the law was written on stone, when technology advanced it was written on scroll until printing press was invented. Now the print media is fading away ,the future of the world is mobile gadget and Internet .but religious people always stay in the places others have left. The print media is fading!! Indeed. You've started smoking abi? He should have apologised, stop confusing him. It's not only when you're wrong that you apologise. You should grow up. He did right by condescending to men of low estate, and abasing himself instead of proving mr. right. There's order in church, you of all people should know that. |
moderattor: The 83 year old man transfered the stamp he recieved from his mentor and prophet A.A. Allen whom he said prophesied to him about the comming of prophet TB Joshua.A.A.Allen transfered what to Upthegroove? Definitely nothing important sha. Allen i know, who be Upthegroove? Do you know how many people Allen gave stamps, biros, and bibles to. People just link things in their imagination sha, nonsense. |
aletheia: @Image123:Ali, i have not said it is wrong to use phone. I made that clear in a similar thread last month ithink. He the OP is a member, a follower. His pastor is a shepherd, a leader. There is a difference. |
i think i completely agree with God2man's answer. OP, you're living a life of gifts without grace. You're pursuing a life of power without purity. You need all four to balance and stand. Paul says in Ephesians, having DONE ALL to stand, STAND. So do all to stand, and then stand. Get grace and get purity. Humble yourself before God and pray, and ask Him to give you righteousness. Seek for righteousness until you find righteousness. You can't fulfill God's call on your life without it. Ask God to reveal areas in your life you need to change e.g dressing and looks and ways of relating. They say if you want change, change yourself first. With God, nothing is impossible. |
logicboy: Just give up, you had nothing of substance to contribute. The topic is about atheists and agnostics contributing to science and technology while religious people use the technology at the same time, saying that atheists and agnostics will go to hellYour OP shows a myopic low level of reasoning and deserves no rebut. I'd be gobsmacked if your atheist superiors like mazaje, homer and co came up with stuff like this. On another thought, i wouldn't put it past the devil to tamper with them thus sha. |
fubbyy: @image123 what about the pastors preaching with their laptops? The pastor is not the odd one out in his church, he's the leader. In his case, people'd want to copy him not 'embarrass' him. You're a dirty, ordinary jatijati only member na, know your level, lol. Condescend to men of low estate? Ever seen that in your phone Bible? |
Yeske, OP you deserve to be embarrassed and even slapped by Oyedepo. You're insensitive to the people around you. You felt so embarrassed ko, there's time for everything. You were the odd one out, and you're here asking for |
i sincerely hoped this man's statements would be ignored. Nigerians are falling for his smoke-screen ego scheme, just the way he planned it. |
the back and forth between logicboy and Image123 isn't necessary, cos its obvious image123 has made a statement he cant defend, so he has chosen the age long trick of deflecting the discussion by picking on logicboy's use of English. (really pathetic strategy, yet totally understandable)
There's no trick mr. It should be obvious to the sane that i don't feel obliged to answer him, if that's the word to use. Which question dey here BTW? |
As a finish on the post where i was making some explanations on the popular maxim, not a literal expression, i quoted Mat 27:63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. Mat 27:64 Command therefore that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. It's clear that the oriental listeners of Jesus understood Him clearly, else they'd be looking for the fourth day as that 4th would be the day after three days/ three days and three nights. i'll add two more scriptures, sorry three Luk 24:20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. Luk 24:21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, today is the third day since these things were done. This passage speaks of an account after Christ's resurrection, when Christ appeared to two of His disciples on their way to Emmaus that same day. They said "today is the third day". This statement can only be true if Jesus died on Friday and rose on Sunday. Like when we resume school and talk of the first day of resumption, or second year of operations. We know where we start the initial counting. Jesus died on Friday which is the first day. Second day is the Sabbath. third day is Sunday. It's so clear and simple i'm amazed. Too simple for our jetage perhaps. Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. It's the same maxim used here by Queen Esther, three days and three nights. If i told you like Esther to fast for me starting tomorrow, first day would be Monday, second day would be tuesday, and third day would be Wednessday, then Thursday the fourth day, i'll see the king. That's the calculation we're making on the thread, right? But the Jews understood it different. Esther 5:1 Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house. Esther got up the THIRD DAY, not the fourth day, after the 3days and nights literally said. Finally 2Chronicles 10:5 And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed. "After three days, He rose from death. I've never seen a man who rose from death like Jesus Christ". No surprise, me sef sabi the song. After three days to many of us would be the fourth day i.e when three days have passed. but to these guys, the understood it different. It was a common mode of expression. (like when we do eighth day for babies. Eighth day is seven days away from that day, not eight days away). 2Chronicles 10:12 So Jeroboam and ALL THE PEOPLE came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day. You see what all the people did? Come again to me on the third day is equated to come again unto me after three days. This is simple understanding of other people and their cultures and way of life. I don't know why some(especially atheists here) are labelling this as a religion thing. Some are just going overboard on it like that's where their faith hangs on. well, i've tried and taken time to see how to break it down, rest is up to you yourself. if Jesus like, let Him rise one hour after death or one year, i really do not care, all my care is that He died for me and saved me from sin and satan, and was raised again for me to live and die no more. |

I'm not drowning here, so quit grasping at whatever. Now you're going technical, you're making a poor lesson teacher. |
So we should get the one verse '3days and 3nights' correct and miss the numerous 'third day'? It's impossible to spend 3days and 3nights and still rise on the third day. |
^ When i said that your challenge is marrying that passage with your education, it's been confirmed that i wasn't wrong. I didn't say that your education is low, either the devil or your imaginations are playing a fast one on you. On the contrary, i've said that many people here are too educated, not uneducated. You're the don na, you're even sure i'm a jambite. What's remaining now is for you to publish my jamb scores, please don't please i'm begging please don. |
Wow, they're so easy you've even answered them. One more thing teacher, mark them and score them. A rhetorical question is not a question, hmmm. This calls for sober reflections. |
God finished creation work long time ago, and rested on the sixth day. His work is perfect. It's man's sin that brought an imperfect state on man and the creation He was created to have dominion over. |
oloriooko: @ image123It was not thrown at me fortunately, it's scriptural truth. Anyways, i understand your challenge. Your challenge is marrying this passage with your level of education. Matthew 12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Next time, at least ask your pastor, or read a good commentary or something. you should learn better that way, not here on nl, where many are charged to sweep you off your feet. When He says "three days and three nights", it's a popular maxim kindof. it's similar to when you tell me "i'm coming", meanwhile, you're actually going. Or it's like in yoruba, you people say "it's been 3 days", while in reality, it might refer to a month or more. When He said 3days and 3nights, the people that heard Him knew exactly what He meant, and other scriptures prove what He meant. Jesus Himself said in other scriptures that He would rise on the third day, not after three days and three nights. After three days and three nights would be the fourth day. Mat 27:63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. Mat 27:64 Command therefore that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. |
Joagbaje: I've read much article on Easter and so much emphasis was laid on the fact that Jesus died on a Friday and resurrected on Sunday. It's one of those reasons i dey usually fight you. Someone on another thread asked "Did Jesus die on a friday?". You, you came here to state "Jesus did not die on a friday". At the end of your OP, you don't even know.Anyway, in the spirit of forgiveness, and of easter, HAppY Easter. To address your opening post, i'll say there's more reason to believe that Jesus died on Friday then any other day. One strong reason is that those that know more than us believe that He died on a Friday. Secondly is just judgement. By just jugdement, i mean fair judgement. Weighing the two sides and seeing/stating which one outweighs. There aremore than 10 scriptures that outweigh the one scripture been quoted on this thread in support of a NO FRIDAY. Let me quote 10 scriptures quickly, they are more than 10 BTW. These 10 scriptures tell us without doubt that Jesus rose on the third day. 1. Matthew 16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 2. Matthew 17:23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry. 3. Matthew 20:19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. 4. Mark 10:34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again. 5. Luke 9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. 6. Luke 18:33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. 7. Luke 24:7 Saying, the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8. Act 10:40 Him God raised up the third day, and showed him openly; 9. 1Corinth 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures: 10. Luke 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: So we clearly see that JESUS had to rise on the third day. Now simply put, if Jesus died on Friday, Friday would be the first day, not the zeroth day. Saturday would be the second day. Ans Sunday would be the third day. That's what the disciples on the road to Emmaus attested to. Luke 24:21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, today is the third day since these things were done. if we calculate like you all seem to be calculating, then He cannot rise on the third day but on the fourth day. From your calculations, Say He died on Thursday. thursday would be first day first night. Friday would be seconday second night. Friday would be third day and night. Completed according to Jo's law. Sunday would be fourth day, day to rise, ERROR ERROR, system crashed. |
Okay, let me be your parttime english lesson teacher, for free. You're lucky i'm in the spirit of easter, the period when Jesus gave us everything for free. logicboy: Wow...keep lying.Note the bolded question marks. Question marks are not smileys. They are used for serious/direct purposes. On your easy questions, i've asked what makes them easy? Do you have an answer to any of these 'easy' questions? |
Haa, T.B's prophecy perhaps. So they also do 'rounding off to the nearest whole number/significant figure' in hell's heaven? |
logicboy: This, coming from someone who failed to answer my 2 easy questions? You asked 3 'easy' questions, it further confirms that you lack full comprehension. And you should learn to use words, if your questions are easy, why do you ask? |
Even if it happened doesn't certify him a true man of God. Satan is the god of this world and can orchestrate things. Infact this are the kind of on-point prophecies i've been expecting to hear from one of his popularity, not all those 20naira prophecies we've been seeing that even atheists can do. |
BusHouse: Fools like you die for want of wisdom. "The rich man's wealth is in the city, the poor man's wealth is in a holy place". Because you have no mind of your own that has lead you to be a puppet on his string. On that day you and your bishop will rot in heal for milking the poor. bastard you children of baal. You're not a christian i suppose? It is non-christians i.e unbelievers that will be in hell. I'm not anyone's puppet, but you sure are displaying that you're a puppet to sin, namely anger, wrath, jealousy, envy, malice, malignity plus X. Those that do such and its like WILL NOT inherit Heaven's kingdom. |
