palsenator: Scammers will come here to post useless indicators for sale or programs that are bound to fail. Firstly, you should remove any post that involves selling of softwares. Secondly, anyone who comes here to solicit for investors should be banned. You can create a section where anyone who wants to post there MUST BE A VERIFIED MEMBER of nairaland. Take their documents and proof of identification. You can even get an experienced moderator to assist in such section. Post in that section could take a while before going on air so as to allow proper verification . I have been a friend to Osewa on Facebook for years now, Am Olumuyiwa McPayne on Facebook and I can say that I have seen genuine traders who will not come on social media to promote nonsense. But still, there may be someone somewhere who has a genuine information for the public that is why I feel you should not ban it outrightly but we must stop the scam. / Yes. Any form of advertising, soliciting or sales should be banned. It will weed out scammers/spammers without the ordeal of extra identity verification. But discussions should not be censored unless some rules of the forum are being neglected. \ |

palsenator: Good day admin, am a forex trader , full time trader and I have never advertised what I do in your platform. The truth is that one can genuinely make money from Forex trading but ONLY few are that lucky. I won't say you should totally ban forex trading ,I don't know about sport but rather , if anyone needs to post anything about forex, you can go to the extent of verifying them with proof. That several people have been scammed does not mean no one has been positively touched or affected. I am the admin of itradeforex group on Facebook and I am a full time trader with consistent profit but truth be told, many traders are scammers. To cut my story short, I would suggest you verify members who may want to post anything related to forex on your platform not the total ban. Do you want to say there are no other avenue through which people have been scammed here aside forex? Obviously No. Please censor it but do not ban it outrightly. Thanks / Please educate us...how do you associate traders with scam? Are they trading with or soliciting for other people's money? Personally, I abhor forex trading but I will not write off the ones who engage in it. \ |

Seun: Dear Nairalanders,
We are thinking of completely banning the promotion of forex trading and sports betting on Nairaland.
Forex day-trading and sports betting are fundamentally fraudulent because they're promoted as a quick way of making money whereas due to mathematical facts, the only people who make money are the middlemen and marketers. The "investors" almost always lose their money.
In our experience, it's not enough to warn Nairaland members about the dangers of forex day-trading and sports betting. The promise of quick profit is just too much for thousands of vulnerable Nairaland members to resist. The only way to protect them is complete censorship.
We believe that the complete ban of such content will make Nairaland a better platform for discussing legitimate entrepreneurship and finance.
What do you think? Please click 'like' if you like the idea; thanks. / If you must, ban advertising them but not discussions on forex/sports betting, both of which are equally risky. Nairaland is neither a broker not a trading platform as such is not liable for any financial mishap that befalls any player. With no liabilities on nairaland, there is no good reason(s) to ban discussions on them. Just like in Islamic thread, you can do what other platforms do -- they put out risk warnings and disclaimers. \ |

If every town declares Fulani herdsmen "shoot at sight", the menace will stop. Buhari will be forced to react.
Nigerians are too peace-loving that they would rather be slaughtered by marauders than fight for their existence. One would think that what happened in Awgu would call for towns to be armed and vigilant against Boko Haram masquerading as Fulani herdsmen. Fulani herdsmen do not move in a group of 300 riders. At the award ceremony, the mayor of the city of Antioch, Mayor Wade Harper, expressed his admiration for Jonathan and declared that the city of Antioch, California was proud of his legacies, especially his act of overseeing free, fair and conclusive elections and leaving the scene when the ovation was loudest.
He recommended Dr. Goodluck Jonathan's behavior to other leaders. Former President Jonathan, who was represented by Mr. Reno Omokri, gave a goodwill message to the two cities that had gathered to honor him as well as to the Nigerian community in the Bay Area of California. Dr. Jonathan said he was "proud of Nigerians in the diaspora and more so of Nigerians in the US and even more so of the Nigerian diaspora in California."
Continuing, the former President said Nigerians in the diaspora were an asset to Nigeria who remitted over $20 billion home annually, "much more than the World Bank, IMF and foreign direct investment."
Dr. Jonathan ended by saying he was proud of diaspora Nigerians and tried to show his appreciation for their support of Nigeria by ensuring that during his time in office at least three direct flights were initiated between America and Nigeria to ease travel and reduce costs for travelers to Nigeria.

(Representative of former President Jonathan, Reno Omokri, receiving an award from the rep. of the mayor of the city of Lathrop, Council man Paul Akinjo)
Jonathan;s Goodwill message to the Cities of Antioch and Lathrop I send this message of goodwill to the Nigerian community in the Bay Area of California who have gathered at Open Heavens Community church to celebrate with me as I am honored by the cities of Antioch and Lathrop. I had planned to be there. Indeed I had concluded travel plans. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control I could not make the trip.
I have always been proud of Nigerians in the diaspora and more so of Nigerians in the US and even more so of the Nigerian diaspora in California. Some of you may recall that upon my ascension to the office of President on May 6th, 2010, one of my first acts was to open up a Facebook page to personally interact with Nigerians.
In June 2010, a diaspora Nigerian from the Bay Area of California informed me on my Facebook page of an abandoned building belonging to Nigeria in San Francisco and I dispatched our then ambassador to that city to claim the property and renovate it.
Hopefully, the building may again host a consulate as it once did in the 80s. The point I am trying to make is that I have been communicating with you and I see you as an asset to Nigeria that makes me proud. Elsewhere, I have mentioned that aside from oil, diaspora Nigerians are the single largest source of capital inflow into Nigeria. In my last year as President you remitted $21 billion home. Much more than the World Bank, IMF and foreign direct investment. My people, you are an asset to your fatherland.
Because of the importance with which I held you, my administration facilitated direct flights to Nigeria from the US to Nigeria. We ensured no less than three airlines fly direct between Nigeria and the US including one from Houston to Lagos for the benefit of those of you from the West Coast.
We also ensured that Enugu airport was upgraded to an international airport and I recall that a number of diaspora Nigerians from the US boarded the inaugural Ethiopian airlines flight that landed there in August of 2013. Again let me say that I appreciate the Nigerian community in the Bay Area.
I would also want like to thank Mayor Wade Harper and the council members of the city of Antioch for choosing to honor me for my efforts in promoting democracy. I am indeed humbled by their thoughtfulness in recognizing our modest efforts. I also wish to express my gratitude to the city of Lathrop and its mayor and council for also deeming it fit to recognize our efforts.
I wish I could be there in person, however, I have asked Reno Omokri to represent and I am with you in spirit. Thank you and may God bless Nigeria, may God bless California, may He bless the cities of Antioch and Lathrop and my God bless you.
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan President, Federal Republic of Nigeria 2010-2015
Source: http://www.nairanaijanews.com/2016/04/former-president-jonathan-honored-by.html / Cities of Antioch and LathropI have been living in California most of my life. I have never heard of these cities.
I just had to google it. Antioch is a city of about 100,000 people (one of those little towns off the highways).

blackprowler: Only on social media will this happen. How old are you? I was there when naira began its fall from parity with dollar. In my childhood I spent a half KOBO. I will try to put up the picture of the 50kobo note I kept since 1991. That's what I used to spend to buy evening papers in 1989/90. I monitored the papers when dollar was 7 naira. My first salary was 178 naira a month. I lived a much better life when naira was 140 to a dollar. You must come on the internet to argue your case but also be open to learn. That's sadly what people in Nigeria NEVER DO. Everybody is an expert online, even the dullest student will chastise his teacher if they met online. Nigeria has been living an unbelievable lie. We do not deserve to have anything to live on right now. In previous times we did manufacture a huge number of our daily needs right here; our greed for so many things was much less, and we exported a good number of farm produce too. Now if we do NOTHING AT ALL and think we can continue living on the basis of currency manipulation, that's just a sick joke and the joke is on the people who say so - like you because, go to the real world and everything is transacted on the real value of dollar/pound/euro, not the one your govt officials pluck from the sky. The quality of life of a people is not about how much their currency exchanges in the international market. Do you know Ghana? Ghana changed the value of their currency to 100 times it's previous value. Have the Ghanaians become 100 times better off? This is all a joke. Get to work, Nigeria. That's the only way to a better life / Yes. Welcome to the 21st century my friend. The only thing that is constant is change. We live in a fast paced world and most Nigerians rely on imports unlike the era you reminiscing with nostalgia. You cannot compare the world of today and the era when Post offices were the only main route of communication. It is pointless comparing analogue and digital mechanism. Nigeria must catch up with the global pace or remain a skunk forever. In the global arena, there is no space for the weakest link. Do I stand to profit if naira is devalued? Of course and very heavily because of the exchange rates. Yet I know that it is economically and morally wrong to devalue the naira when the export Nigeria has is oil which is experiencing a glut in the market place. I think your problem is that you so much dwell in the past that you fail to acknowledge the present and the future. Such mindset is retrogressive. \ |
