Car Talk › Re: How To Conserve Fuel In Your Car During This Fuel Scarcity by InvertedHammer: 8:18pm On Apr 09, 2016
chucksbadt:
1. For manual transmission, while driving ensure to leave gear 1 and 2 as soon as possible, the other gears save fuel much better.

2. There is really no need for air conditioner at the moment, you can survive without it. Wind all your 4 windows down, Natural breeze go enta. Economy hard!

3. Endeavor to switch off the engine during heavy traffic.

4. Consider trekking at times
You own a car doesn't mean you drive it everywhere, set your priorities right!. Stuffs like going to pick up chick's, or cruising around town should be put on hold.

5. All v6/v8 cars should be parked for now. I believe anyone who has a v6/v8 car should also have a small car parked somewhere. Use that one instead.

Abeg driver's in the house, feel free to add yours.
/
Other than Lagos, most cities in Nigeria are too small to notice any significant fuel consumption by V6/V8 vehicles. If it is a long distance travel, then i can understand. Take the eastern cities for example, driving around from point A to point B for most people is usually within a five miles radius. If fuel consumption is of great concern in this case, one should not buy any car.

The government is broke. Banks have a lot of exposures to Oil companies and TSA was the final knockout punch. Recently, the banks have been sending out subtle messages to the effect that they are insolvent. The government even went as far as poking into domiciliary accounts in Nigeria. If you are still waiting for a prophet to tell you that something is cooking, oh well. Banks are usually the first big victims in this kind of environment and they take a lot of casualties with them because it always happens over the weekend.

If it gets to that, it will be catastrophic because the scarcity of dollars has trapped a lot of forex in the banks. Worse still, the government is not buoyant enough to bail out the banks.

I am not being an alarmist but one should look at the situation and take preemptive actions to limit loss.

Good works that he couldn't when he had the knife and yam. He cannot influence any policy formation especially with APC on the saddle. Oh i forgot, Nigeria is never in short supply of gullible folks.

He should start with giving pipe borne water and electricity to the good people of Otuoke. Jonathan is as good as a used condom. This is assuming the crazy Buhari and his almajiri brothers do not put Jonathan in handcuffs soon. The opportunity is nigh.

Be careful about your money in the Nigeria banks.

Banks liquidation may be around the corner.

There will be no signs. You go to the bank on friday and on monday you see locked gates manned by Mopols. Then it will be too late. That has always been their modus operandi.

The funny thing is that if we employ one oyibo to run this ministry, he will bypass all these grammar and focus on harnessing abundant energy ( solar, that is) into electricity. Imagine the solar energy being wasted in the North alone. But Fashola and co. are busy chasing 1960s technology. Why can't Africans be pioneers in any technological advancement? We are waiting for others to develop and then import. Yet Africans are quick to argue that all humans are equal--available evidence continues to prove otherwise. The Asians and the West prosecute criminals but Africans elevate criminals to mini-gods and worship them accordingly. Even when caught in the act, African criminals unabashedly bake in the glory of their invicibility with the goading of impoverished masses.

Education has been equally advantageous and disadvantageous to Africans. The curriculum seems to be anchored on "educated to feel inferior".

It should be appreciated that she is trying to communicate with the masses.
Perusing through the "term paper", one can attest that she is a textbook minister. Everything she wrote could easily be written by a paid hand as a project.

Borrowing, financing, recurrent expenditures, taxes, inflation are terms that Nigerians have heard from successive governments from the 60s. Yet the end result is the same. Any article by Soludo, Iweala or Sanusi will tow the same laudable line of thinking but we know that they left the economy where they met it.

There is no need for denial.

I have read through most of the comments in this Panama saga and came to find out that most people do not understand the concept of shell corporations even among the "pop and mom" folks who claim to be business people.

Blame the corporate laws that provide the loopholes for giving tax incentives to shell corporations. Is there any serious international business person who is not "exposed"
to shell corporations? If you don't, you have just defined yourself.

Btw, shell as used here is not Shell (the oil company) before some of you will start arguing over something you have no clue about. Shell companies are not secretitive neither are they anonymous. Some countries until recently do not open their books to foreign auditors or financial investigations. Eg Switzerland, Cyprus, Panama, etc. Therein lies the problem.

Remember...Panama is only one among many.

That's all.

There is a glut of cheap oil in the global market putting pressure on oil prices. Yet there is scarcity of petrol in Nigeria. Why? Because people refuse to use their brains.
A serious country does not need foreign experts to build or maintain refineries. China would have copied the prototype and make it work. Nigerians do not copy things like that. They prefer to copy wearing gold chains, piercing ears and living "worst flamboyant" lifestyles. Worst flamboyant? Yes. If you drive an exotic car on Nigeria roads, what could be worse? That's just an example. And they believe they are living. No! You are just occupying space in the world.

This is quite silly and is a tacit endorsement of spousal abuse.

1. Did the guy not know how much the wedding was going to cost? If it was too expensive, he has the right to explain to his fiancee, try to trim down the budget or delay the wedding till they have more money.

2. Even if the problem is high expenses, how does his current attitude solve the problem?

The wife is the one complaining about his attitude not the dude. Everyone reacts to stress differently. A lot of fiancee will not listen when the man is complaining about wedding expenses because they have lived in the fantasy and fairy-tale land for so long--I must beat my girlfriends' weddings syndrome. After wedding comes marriage. Most couples have financial challenges after wedding/marriage rites that if not handled right lead to spousal abuse, neglect or divorce.

Tekevwe:
I got married to my husband a some months ago. Before we got married we dated for a while and my husband was the smiling type, though I noticed he bones a lot with his siblings.

Our courtship was great. He used to give me practically everything I wanted (affection and care) even before I asked. He showered me with so much love that I thought I was dreaming. I saw some other qualities in him and felt he would make a great husband.

The first week of our marriage, my husband changed, started boning round the house and withdrew into himself. His office rent was due that month so I felt that was cause and let him be. Several months down the line and things re d same or even worse. He gets home boning, eats and goes straight to bed. If I try gisting with him he answers in monosylables and you can see the disinterest on his face.

The only time he smiles at home is when he wants to be intimate. That's the only time he's soft with me now and the only time I feel connected to him. I asked him if I offended him in any way and he says no, that the pressure of providing for a new family is getting to him.

I didn't play hard to get cos I don't believe in such so I don't know why the change.

There are some other qualities I discovered in him that I never saw while we were dating. I jokingly told him he has changed and that day he smiled and said he had to give me all I wanted cos he didn't want to lose me since I'm a pretty girl. Now that we re married its like he can't be bothered with trying anymore.

Also deep down I don't tink he loves me and feel he just married me cos he isn't so young anymore (almost 40) and he's parents were mounting pressure on him. He's snappy with me now which never used to happen.

He also has a wall built around him that I can't seem to penetrate. I feel so depressed each time I'm home, being married to a man I feel no connection to.

I don't know if this is what marriage entails. If it is, then please, married folks should hint me so I can adjust my mindset to this new change.

Also, what can I do to break through and get through to him?
/
Typical of single guys, he thought he was doing fine. But all the expenses from traditional and white wedding depleted his account so much that he couldn't afford to renew his office rent. Now he sees you as the cause of his problems. Next line of action will be to accuse of being possessed by marine spirit and that you are an agent sent to destroy his life and destiny. Take am easy with marriage expenses, some people no go hear. No matter how big or small your wedding reach, e no go pass one month everyone forgets while your debt fit reach years to clear. Welcome to marriage reality101. The man dey vex for you o!

Ever wonder why na people who do big society wedding that their marriages first dey crash.

Nigerians lack professionalism in all aspects of their lives.

Even common lies, this Adesina fellow handled it like an amateur. Who will believe this nonsense?

There are other means of accessing forex other than through the CBN. The only complaint i hear is the exchange rate which is based on the parallel rate. I fail to believe that anyone who accesses forex from CBN will not roundtrip considering the price difference between the official and parallel rate. The profit is so astronomical that no legit business will give such yield.

Like i always say, the incompetence or failure of a Nigeria President will be felt mostly by the masses. I don't like Buhari but I don't pray for his failure because of the collateral damage on the masses. Prior to the elections, I succinctly stated that without Idiagbon, Buhari is useless. He was a figurative head in the 80s to protect the "birthright" of the North.

So far, the fact remains that Nigerians made a mistake electing such an old man to lead them in this 21st century. Jonathan was nothing to write home about--as useless as one could get. Buhari is becoming increasingly useless as well. In other words, the sufferings continue.

Sorry guys...na your cross!

k, my first smartphone was an apple iphone 3g and it was beautiful.

I always asked why people would buy such an expensive phone being as most other phones were cheap and worked fine, but then I saw a demo on the apple page about it opening full web pages and that was it for me.

Nowadays though, all smartphones open web pages, although some more elegantly than others, but all do nonetheless.

So now, years later, I find myself asking again why people would go for expensive devices when other cheaper devices exist that work fine. In this case though, I'm yet to see a compelling reason as I did the last time, cause it seems all phones are smart nowadays.

I just got an innjoo one droid and it has a 13mp cam, 5inch screen, decent resolution (290ppi), 2Gb ram and a fast processor, all for under 30k.

So what am I missing? I know the iphone 6's and Samsung S's of this world probably have a better build quality from glass to back materials and so on, but beyond build quality, what am I missing?

teechudleyy:
I had to post this because with the kinds of experiences I have had, I have come to lose trust in private hospitals and even my respect for young medics has really waned.

I will share three instances of my personal experiences with different hospitals.

1. My Little One was a bit down, and I was reluctant to take him to the family hospital in ikeja because it was a hot day so I saw a pharm at health plus who prescribed anti malaria drugs, ampiclox and multivitamins etc. I spend about one thousand five hundred naira getting the drugs.
But my MIL insisted we take him to the hospital even though he was already getting better the next day. Well, i took him down to our hospital and you wony believe I paid 2k for consultation. We went in to see d doc, and he asked a few questions like is it chest cough he has or is it throaty?( i was thinking...how wd i know. When ur d one wearing d stethoscope. Am i a doc to know types of cough? ) how is his temp. his appetite? doc didnt even check his eyes... i know that eye widening thing they do. He made it look like i was an over reacting mom.

After the q&a called consultation, he started scrawling in the prescription pad. I asked wnt u at least check the child? pls wat if something else is happening that isnt clear unless we check.
He said madam, additional check up will cost more money. So i shut up and collected d presc he wrote.
When i got there d lady asked me to pay 2000 naira and i did. She wrote me a receipt and i sat down. I waited 45 mins. My son was already sleepin. I asked the lady n she told me to calm down i will soon b attended to.
Just den,der messanger came in with a package and she just put it in d hospital bag and gave to me.

They were out of drugs. They went out to buy

What drugs?
paracetamol, vit c and bcomplex... D cheap brands o

And guess what... d chemists receipt was in d bag
It all cost 470 naira

I dnt mind consultation fee. But 2000 fr those drugs was extortion.

Medical attn is expensive, but i think some private hospitals take it too far.
/
The problem is from your end. As a mother you should educate yourself on basic healthcare like taking temperature, blood pressure, etc. It is not every little deviation of health status will warrant going to the hospital. You start off with OTC medications and if symptoms persist after a few days, then you see your doctor. All medications labels tell you so too. You could easily had done all the doctor did in less time, little effort and money.
The internet is not only used for social media. There is a plethora of information available online.

Btw, the doctor or nurse would need history to initiate treatment regimen that's why he was asking you those basic questions. It is a standard practice.

Crime › Re: The Pathetic Story Of An Igbo Woman In Dallas by InvertedHammer: 1:32am On Apr 02, 2016
THE TRUTH IS FINALLY OUT...

Depending on your take on the issue....

Theodore Okechukwu

A Plano anesthesiologist who ran a “pill mill” operation in Dallas with armed guards who watched over cash exchanges, was sentenced this week to 25 years in federal prison, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

According to authorities, vans loaded with homeless people would pull up one after another in front of Dr. Theodore Okechuku’s Lake Highlands clinic. There patients handed over cash for falsified drug prescriptions through bars guarding a “caged cash room” at the clinic.

In addition to the doctor, who was immediately taken into custody by U. S. marshals, one of his associates, Elechi N. Oti, 50, of Augusta, Ga., was sentenced to eight years in federal prison.

Okechuku, 59, and Oti were convicted of drug charges by a federal jury in October 2015, along with two others.

Emmanuel C. Iwuoha, 52, of Allen, and Kelvin L. Rutledge, 43, of Dallas, were each convicted on one count of conspiracy to unlawfully distribute a controlled substance. They are scheduled to be sentenced in April.

Three others pleaded guilty to drug charges before trial: Ignatius O. Ezenagu, 57, David L. Reed, 44, and Jerry K. Reed, 45.

Ezenagu was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison. David and Jerry Reed are scheduled to be sentenced in April.

Okechuku conspired with drug dealers by handing out prescriptions for the painkiller hydrocodone at his Medical Rehabilitation Clinic for cash payments, often without examining the patients, authorities said.. The dealers sold the drugs on the street for a profit.

Prosecutors said Okechuku and his conspirators ran the drug trafficking operation since at least 2012. It earned them more than $530,000 during the first eight months of 2014. The clinic has since closed.

The dealers, who included the Reeds and Rutledge, recruited patients, often from homeless shelters, and drove them in groups to the clinic, court records show. Up to 50 people per day visited the clinic, which sometimes stayed open until midnight.

The security guards carried firearms on their waists so the “patients” wouldn’t get violent and to protect the drug money, records show.

Rarely saw patients

Okechuku rarely saw patients during their brief visits to his clinic, which prosecutors said had few, if any, examination tables or therapy equipment. That job was delegated to Oti, a physician’s assistant, or to Iwuoha, who did not have a medical or nursing license in Texas.

Records show Okechuku received his medical degree from the University of Lagos in Nigeria in 1980. He obtained his Texas medical license in 2000.

Okechuku was allowed to prescribe controlled substances in Texas since 2001 and opened his clinic in 2005. A Texas Medical Board panel suspended his license in 2014, ruling that his practice of medicine posed a “continuing threat to public welfare.”

About three weeks after his arrest in December 2013, Okechuku was released from federal custody after posting $50,000 bail.

He then proceeded to write about four times as many illegal painkiller prescriptions as before, federal authorities say.

About six months after his release, a Texas Department of Public Safety agent told an FBI agent that her agency had received multiple complaints from pharmacists about Okechuku’s prescriptions. Prosecutors said the prescriptions were written under the authority of the University of Mississippi medical school.

A Texas Medical Board inspector went to the clinic and noticed about 15 people loitering in the parking lot. The clinic’s waiting room had about 10 to 20 people, most of whom looked “disheveled, ‘strung-out’ and homeless,” court records said.

The inspector also noticed a strong chemical order coming from the office. And she said Okechuku appeared to be impaired because his eyes were “half-open” and bloodshot, according to court records.

The West wrote books on economy. Africans read them and claim enlightened. Economics in the developed nations continue to evolve. When US almost went under in 2008, they came up with Quantitative Easing. Some economists would write books on it and Africans will study them and resort to "Garbage in, garbage out".

Kudos to Buhari and Emefiele for throwing away the textbooks and using their brains to assess the reality on ground. Foreign investors are reallocating funds. When Nigeria survives, they will come back. The only thing they care about is profit. If money is in hell, they will follow it. Check out everyone in support of devaluation... They are using terminologies they read in the books which concepts they fairly understand. Economics is not pure science!

If FGN devalues the naira to N250/$, the parallel market price will rise to about N500/$. And the inflation rate folks are mouthing off will be intolerable then.
