unmask: But seriously I find it hard to believe some Nigerians blame the west for all our problems..... Funny.... Real funnyNo mind them. The one that pains me the most is that even in Diaspora they still carry that nonchalant Nigeria attitude. Most of the Nigeria organizations in Diaspora cannot organize themselves. Embezzlement here, non-transparency there! Most of them are still in court as we argue. Succession wahala. Fellow Nigerians calling immigration to deport others b/c of minor arguments. Recently, they have upgraded to calling people's jobs to get them fired. These are few examples of how Nigerians are their worst enemies. Yet, they are quick to point accusing fingers to imaginary enemies. It is always the devil's fault, that is if you get caught. Nigerians are their own problem. They are victims of their own undoing. Guess what? It is a free world. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. Could you believe that someone who claimed omnipotent and an avid reader suggested that we align with China? China! He even mentioned Iran. Hahaha. China does not take prisoners. Moving on. Gov. Chime of Enugu engaged Arab Contractors to build Enugu because local contractors were doing shoddy jobs and most often than not playing Houdini with mobilization fees. Now you can at least see some semblance of development in Enugu. I did not see USA send in Special Forces and the Marines to kill him. A governor like Fashola is still alive with the little improvement he is making. Has he been assassinated? No! My point is that whatever macro-economic "draft" oyibo is playing on global level is not a reason for embezzling or looting funds meant for development of Nigeria. But Thot thinks he has all the answers b/c he read a couple of books without considering the bias of the authors. Experience is a good teacher. I don't need any textbook to teach me the life we are living. The type of business I am into gives me all the exposures I need in international politics and how underdeveloped nations have nobody to blame but themselves. I have travelled far and wide...countries in Asia, Europe, South America, North America. Not bragging. I fly into Nigeria 2 or 3 times every year. Flying into Nigeria at night is like going to hell. Thanks to PHCN. In other countries, you can see the beauty of the city from the sky. Perhaps, NEPA is being controlled by the West. // |
/ Even when I thought I have heard it all. Then this.... / |
igbo2011: Most African countries don;t have the industrial infrastructure base to produce. Africa is meant to be a permanent cheap labor, cheap resources and consumer market. The global capitalist system is designed that way. If people don't obey they get bombed ie Libya. We keep crying about the underdevelopment of Africa. Instead of generalization, we should blame the real culprits. Average Americans and other citizens of the developed world hate them. They leave misery in their trails while using the media to sugarcoat their agenda. They are bankers and corporations! They take no prisoners. Whether you are white, black or brown; their concern is their bottomlines. In 2008, the whole world felt the impact of their machination. They engineered and sold complicated and incomprehensible financial gimmicks to the world. In the end, a good number of Americans and citizens of the West were left holding empty bags. It is never about racism or master-slave relationship. They will bribe whoever they could, degrade wherever is degradable and use the media to heckle the hell of non-players. However, the problem of Africa is more internal than it is external. |
igbo2011: Everything wasn't developed by them. Africans are the starters of civilization and we civilized the Europeans. It is not how one started that matters most; it is how one finished. By the way, I was talking about production/ manufacture of goods and not the inventions. How many African inventions are patented? Africans might have invented stuff but they usually lack finesse or government protection from intellectual poachers. Just like biblical Joseph, your people will sell you out for peanuts. Are you aware that left to Africans, slavery would have continued? They wouldn't mind issuing coupons or Buy 1 get 1 free for pecuniary gains. It is a lot easier to blame whitemen for buying slaves without blaming the local chiefs that forcefully sold their people. Demand for slavery was abolished and that was why the supply stopped. Go figure! If you come up with any invention today, your fellow Africans will be the ones that will make sure that it does not see the light of the day. Looking for venture capitalists? Look towards the west. |
igbo2011: @Cap28Good observations! |
thoth: I am trying to present a problem and you are trying to find somebody to blame and that is the problem with most Africans . I wonder if you start building a house from the fifth floor. What solutions are you advocating? Kill all whitemen? Look around you everything you use was developed by them. What do you manufacture? You import even toothpicks! You are just tap-dancing around the issue and I am done with arguing back and forth with you. The root cause of the problems you are latching unto is beyond your means. It is beyond the means of other developed countries because the format for the world economy was developed by the West and the rest follows. What alternatives do you have? Nada. Zil! Zero! You can elect to keep harping on wishful thinking or embrace practical approach to alleviating the suffering of the masses. Give them basic infrastructures that will help drive private sector and middle class. I don't know which part of this you find extremely difficult to understand. For the love of Christ, the whole world is not centered around Nigeria. If your leaders don't want to get it right. So be it. It is quiet disturbing that you will leave the source of your problems to blame others. Do you know how retar.ded you sound? As inter alia stated, Nigerians need basic amenities and couldn't care less about all these macro-economics you are throwing around. You keep saying "problem with Africans". Why don't you remove the ignorant log on your eyes first. I gave you examples and you still don't get it. The major setback for Nigeria is corruption. Take it or leave it. I am done with you |
cap28: The first thing you must understand about nigerians is that we are not a nation - nationhood is defined as:I don't know if you noticed...but in the end, you and I are saying the same thing even though our approaches might have been different. Most countries that were colonized by the "Masters" are not homogenous entities. Yet, they rose above it. Why not Nigeria? I heard (rumor ) there was a point in Nigeria when the government declared that Nigeria had too much money. It appeared that naira was stronger or close to the value of US dollar then. So what happened? As absurd as it might sound, I bet you most Nigerians could care less if the leaders loot the treasury as long as the basic amenities are in place. It is very difficult to argue for Nigeria with a straight face . |
thoth: @InvertedHammer@Thot. I am not trying to understand what you are selling neither as long as you continue to view Nigeria shortcomings from the sphere of a victim. And honestly, I couldn't care less just that it is disheartening, to say the least. Some ascribe it to the "mumuship" of the citizens. Now I see why. Excuses! excuses!! excuses!!! When everything else fails, blame invisible enemies and white men |
cap28: The fact that i say that the root cause of nigeria's problems lies with the west does not mean that i am a defender of the bandits that run nigeria.Every thing you mentioned above is a known fact. I applaud your knowledge of history. But what have these got to do with: 1. Salary payment when due 2. Road construction 3. Bribery and corruption to the highest level of government and individuals. 4. Electricity 5. Refineries. 6. General basis amenities. I am a big student of conspiracy theory by the way. Refer to my reply to Thot marked in red about Nigeria organizations in Diaspora. Our problems go beyond the slave-master relationship with the West. It doesn't help that the West strangulates Nigeria and the little left is stolen. As it stand now, I assign 20% of the blame to the West on macro-economic levels while the remaining blame goes to your government and the citizens. But for you and thot, the West should take 90% of the blame because you failed to put your house in order. Remember that USA was once under the control of Britain too. HongKong too. So there is a system in place to maintain the status quo and I mentioned that in my earlier post on "Competition" as it concerns BRICS. But come on dude, people are celebrating 24hrs x 2 days electricity in 2013? What education and travel have offered me is that I look around and see what Nigeria could be, but choose not to be. I have been in a position to advice the leaders. Guess what? Everyone of them believes that the next one is the most corrupt. And the cycle continues. There is crime everywhere. American citizens hate their politicians as well. But my grind with Nigeria is that crimes are committed with impunity with neither repercussions nor deterrents in place to check this national past time. There are no leverages. The incentives to loot are endless. Nigerians are just wicked. Every country gets the leadership they deserve. I mentioned somewhere that every Nigerian I know is a "looter in waiting" because God forbid you forget to steal in a position of leadership in Nigeria. Your own people will disown you. Any future? If Nigeria is a criminal, only Ambulance chaser attorneys would dare defend her. |
You know a French man once told me that one thing that colonization has done for Europe in Africa is that it left the black man predictable. Predictable you said? Moving on! Now can you listen to yourself “what Nigerians demand from their leaders are not the things you are concerned with. “ why should I ? since I am aware that they are doing the wrong thing and that they will never get it. Now if we try to extract the constituent parts of that compact statement it go like this.Nigerians demand ….....from their leaders. They have been demanding …............ from their leaders for more than 50 years. Why haven't they gotten it from their leaders for more than 50 years ? Why do their leaders deny them what they were ask since it is clear they can provide it IF THEY WANTED ? Gluttony! Has there been any leader that tried to provide these …......... for the people ? They all tried but with inflated contracts or white elephant projects to line their pockets-->greed! How did he fare ? He/They became wealthy at the expense of the masses Since the leaders REFUSED to provide ….. for the people what did the people do ? Give them titles and worship them! Someone just equated Patience Jonathan to Jesus Christ. Blasphemy! Then provide their own amenities for those that can afford it. Those that cannot rely on prayer warriors for miracles Where did the people who revolted end up ? Dead! And the rest recoiled to their shells to remain slaves forever-->cowardice! What did the remaining people do about that ? Loop! After you have sincerely answered these questions for yourself assuming you know the answers then read what you wrote again and see where you stand and the decide if that is the right course of thought. Have you ever asked yourself why the government refused to tackle those issues ? Enugu State is in Nigeria and white men have not killed the governor. So some are trying to make some changes to the status quo Have you ever stopped believing for a minute that you ever had a government ? I always do. The crude oil example you made is soo clear that even a slowpoke as a president would not allow that but why has it been that way ? Because it benefits a few. Some call them cabals. It is still centered on selfishness...Emeka Offor/Abacha embezzled contract money for TAM. Yet we clamored for "Abacha for Life!". I better pass my neighbour. Check out how much crude oil is lost to bunkerers on a daily basis while the security personnel feign ignorance. All man to himself. "What is in it it for me?" syndrome Do you think our leaders are morons ? It doesn't take a rocket science to know that. You are recycling the same excuses. Take a cue from Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil. They extricated from the prangs of the "masters" and are doing a lot better than Nigeria with "I too Know" folks like you. Well about the books I will only answer that with the signature of a fellow poster here on Nairaland known as PAGAN 9JA its says “Read or Die!” ...and I pray it makes sense to you. On this I will not make much modification on what you have said so I will only say “Keep waiting for your Government!” Most people are not waiting for the government. The ones that can afford it provide electricity, water, etc for themselves. The rest rely on miracles. Therefore, nothing has changed--Nigeria is a failed state. No matter how much you try to sugarcoat it, remember pregnancy can only be hidden for so long. By the way, most Nigeria organizations/associations in USA do not last more than 2 years. Usually they die off whenever they conduct elections to elect new officers. Do you know why? Nigerians are Nigerians everywhere unless they are working under white people. So many times white judges have had to intervene to guide Nigerians through court processes on how to run their associations. In their offices, they make use of their educational skills to perform well b/c the whitemen are watching and do not entertain excuses. But among fellow Nigerians, the Ph.Ds are converted to titles and all critical thinking abilities thrown to the dogs. That's your people. The evidence is there. What is it that Ghana has that Nigeria lacks? There you have it. |
/ CELEBRATING POWER SUPPLY IN 2013? Laughing in Spanish! 4th World Country mentality. // |
/ You do not have to bribe God for his blessings The life you live, the air you breathe...God has given all these to us to free. All we have to do is worship him and devote our lives to him. You don't have to hand over your money to someone to buy private jets to appease God. Extreme religious awareness and poverty go hand in hand. Ain't tithing. Let God be my judge. // |
thoth: You are entirely wrong and I think you are the one that sincerely needs an education. Mr Rodney was explaining the systems built to serve as foundations to KEEP African Underdeveloped and to SUSTAIN Underdevelopment in Africa. There were never a page or paragraph which asserts that it is a discourse of pre-colonial Africa and no Discourse on Walter Rodney's book that I have read so far has ever noted his work as such.Thot: You are the one getting things twisted here. Granted the anglo-saxons are the "masters" as you stated. But the level of control you are noting is not the main issue here. They have their prangs in other countries too. But what Nigerians demand from their leaders are not the things you are concerned with. 1. Good road network 2. Stable electricity 3. Pay salaries when due 4. Clean and available water supply 5. Keep students in schools. Tell me what is so complicated about these things that your government chose to do otherwise. Instead of tackling the issues, you keep digging around for textbooks to support your harebrained ideology. For instance, you extract crude oil from your backyard, you export it to foreign refineries and turn around to import the same commodities at ridiculously marked-up prices. This is your ingenuity. Nigeria's failure is incomprehensible. As inter alia stated, most people would cut you some slack in your ramblings but when they wake up every morning with air of uncertainty hanging over their necks, they can easily call you bluff. Get your head off your a#s and think about the practical things that any concerned government would do to uplift her citizens. However, being the omniscient that you are, keep waiting for the whitemen! |
thoth: You misunderstood Cap28’s post and I blame your ignorant of African and especially Nigerian history for that, He is actually speaking to people who actually knew how things ACTUALLY WORKS and not people who THINKS they knew.I don't think I misunderstood Cap28. He played an ostrich by trying to engage from both sides of the fence. I don't know if you understand the meaning of the world "competition". No great country will let another country grow big enough to challenge her. It is up to every country to carve her own niche if she wants to be taken seriously. This cat and rat chase is evident in the cold-war brouhaha between USA and Russia. The latter is trying to re-assert her importance in world politics. You harped on the West turning blind eyes on atrocities in Nigeria. What did Nigerians do? You cannot hope for the West to come and play godfather role in your lives and expect them to go home empty handed. They will sacrifice their able men and women to restore sanity in your environment while your lazy, ignorant, tribalistic and religiously-fanatical behind sit back to enjoy the fruit of their labor. Ghana did not wait for the West to clean their houses for them. Jerry Rawlings offered "local" solution to a "local" problem. His approach might have been questionable but it sure did stop embezzlement with impunity to a halt then. The West you are blaming give out aids to Nigeria every year. What did the leaders do with the money? They convert it to their personal funds. Your leaders borrow from IMF and World Bank and divert the funds to their personal accounts. What did Nigerians do? We give them titles and praise them to the high heavens just for crumbs from the master's table. Every nation deserves the leaders they get. For some reason I believe that God is intentionally punishing Nigeria for their hypocrisy. Every country is moving forward. How do you feel knowing that Nigeria is the only OPEC country among the list of very poor countries in the world? Do you really believe that USA is happy that China is progressing? China is carving a name for herself in the global arena and you are here defending a country inhabited and controlled by "lootocrats". No one person can fight the system alone. But in a situation whereby every effort at mitigating the situation is compromised by ethnicity, religious affiliations or nepotism, what do you do? Sovereign National Conference is not the solution to the Nigeria problems. Everyone knows the solution but no one wants to tackle it. It becomes a case of "who will bell the cat?". The solution is centered around this: If all the past and present leaders are forced to remit all their loots back to the Nigeria Treasury and the funds are used judiciously, Dubai will have nothing on Abuja. And don't even think that they cannot be forced. Abacha proved that a General in Nigeria Army could be made to weep like a baby. Even the little "shakara" that EFCC did back in the days yielded some significant results. It now becomes a question of who has the will to pursue such extremely dangerous agenda. The simple fact which you will rather not acknowledge is that the money meant for developments are in private bank accounts of a few individuals. Stop blaming imaginary enemies. |

SO they can import everything and send all profits to Europe which will lower our foreign exchange. And this man said this after having a university degree. With this mindset we will ALWAYS be in our situation. I also talked to some Nigerians in London and I told them that the war in Libya and how America and Britain financed it and caused hell to Nigerians and other blacks who died in the black genocide. Instead of standing up for them they made an excuse for them. Then said if you can't beat them join them. I have spoken with so many black people around the world We have a severe case of mental slavery. This is the WORST form of slavery.
