CareerRe: HND Certificate: An Embarrassment? by ishmael(m): 9:17am On Aug 28, 2006
Donmayor, i agree with you that most of us actually went to poly as a second resort, but that does not mean that it is an embarrassment to hold HND certificate. Keep what the soceity thinks HND is aside, can you tell us the difference btw HND and Bsc in terms of course work?? I did HND in statistics and i will say it in this forum that i did more in the polytechnic in statistics than those who went to university. Any Bsc statistics graduate that disagrees with my claim should come out and defend the university. List all the courses you did in your Bsc Statistics program from 100L to 400Levels and i will list mine for you from ND1 to HND2; you will know that most Bsc statistics graduates are not qualified and compentent to be called STATISTICIANS. Mind you i have seen Bsc statistics course curriculum for Nigerian universities already; they do less than the polytechnics do and are not worthy to be called STATISTICIANS. List Bsc Statistics courses for me and i will list HND statistics courses for you too.
CareerRe: Should HND Holders Go To Hell? by ishmael(m): 7:53am On Aug 28, 2006
No HND holder should top up his/her HND with Bsc oo!! Go straight to post graduate school and do a PGD and Msc. If the society does not recognise you that does not mean that you should not recognise and acknowledge the certificate you have. Whether anybody likes it or not our HND is equal or greater than Bsc.

Mathematically: HND>=Bsc
QED.
ComputersRe: How To Recover Files From A Dead Computer? by ishmael(m): 8:23pm On Aug 25, 2006
you are saying the samething we said, except that you did not talk about setting the jumpers of the bad hard disk to slave. The system cannot recognise another HDD drive if its settings is the same as the main HDD of that system. Take note!!
CareerRe: HND Certificate: An Embarrassment? by ishmael(m): 7:18pm On Aug 25, 2006
For God's sake what pre-requisite does a second class lower Bsc holder needs again to do a PGD in the university, after getting a Bsc from the same university?? Pally u must be kidding. You don just want to accept it that uni graduates go to do PGD in kaduna polytechnic and Yaba college of Technology. Please you are free to find out from these schools i have mentioned to you. And secondly We have GM's ED's and MD's that are HND holders in some corporate organizations in nigeria including banks. University man, just accept the fact that HND certificate in nigeria is as good as your Bsc.

I cant imagine any sane person wishing to have IBB as his president. His days as president were dark days men!! We suffer no be small, eating from hand to mouth. Enough is enough, na only dey nigeria sef??
CareerRe: HND Certificate: An Embarrassment? by ishmael(m): 8:21am On Aug 25, 2006
What is the stigma in having HND? pally i know a few people that are professors and Doctors 2day that started from OND, HND, PGD, MSc and PhD, and they are lecturers in some nigerian universities now. Why were they not discriminated and denied employment as lecturers in the university because of thier HND? It is because polytechnics in nigeria dont have the constitutional backings to run Masters and PhD programs now, that is why all these nonsense is happening. I assure you soonest nigerian polytechnics will soon start running masters and PhD programs, and even people from universities will be rushing down to do their masters there. Right now a lot of university graduates still go to some polytechnics that run PGD programs for their PGD. Kadpoly and YabaTech are examples of such polytechnics; you can find out if you are in doubt.
CareerRe: HND Certificate: An Embarrassment? by ishmael(m): 7:31pm On Aug 24, 2006
Donmayor, u're right. But HND holders dont need to do a BSC again before going for masters. Is the HND not meant to be equivalent to a Degree in Nigeria? What is the point of doing Bsc after obtaining HND if they are equivalent? Bros the problem is the country we are living in. We value paper qualifications more than skills. HND and Bsc are equivalent qualifications if you care to know, but the HND is a qualification with technical bias while the university degree is a theoretical qualification.
CareerRe: HND Certificate: An Embarrassment? by ishmael(m): 6:52pm On Aug 24, 2006
Yes, mypeace polytechnics were established to produce middle-level manpower. Can u tell us what a middle-level qualification is? I believe if you know what middle-level is you will be able to know where to place HND among ND, NCE, HND & Bsc/BA/BTech.

Thebadguy, thanx for chipping in. But i think the best thing for the guy to do is to get an expert to do it for him. I initially thot he had little knowledge on computer hardware. Cheers!!

ComputersRe: My 40Gb Hard Disk Is Inaccessible by ishmael(m): 3:11pm On Aug 23, 2006
scribe:
When slaved to another computer. The same error still get showing. However, after pressing F1, the computer will boot normally, but the hard disk will neither show up under DISK MANAGEMENT, nor under Hardware Profile. That is, it is treated as none existing.
Pally, check the IDE cable you used in connecting the slave hard disk; make sure it is well fitted to the board and the hard disk. if possible exchange the IDE cable with the one that is known to be working.
After connecting or fixing the hard disk as a slave, go to setup and make sure that the IDE slot where the suspected bad HDD is connected on the board is enabled. That is make sure IDE 0 and IDE 1 as the case may be are all ebabled; if they are not, enable them.
Then make sure the system recognizes the slave HDD as a primary or secondary slave depending on the system setup. Make sure you save any changes made there. Infact from the setup you should be able to see the master and slave hard disks with their various statistics. After that reboot the system to come up, then check thru mycomputer to see if the 2nd disk is recognised and available. Pls try it and see to be sure whether that hard disk is bad or not.

IBB must surely pay 4 his past. It's only a matter of time. If you sow evil you shall reap evil during harvest. The time will soon come for him to reap what he has sown.
ComputersRe: How To Recover Files From A Dead Computer? by ishmael(m): 12:30pm On Aug 23, 2006
In that case you better look for an expert to do it for u. Its a bit technical and i dont want you to damage the other system. If u were in nigeria it would have been easy to communicate with u on fone and tell u exactly what to do. But its an easy task 4 those that know little about computer hardware. All i will advice you to do is to get a computer hardware specialist over there and tell him the problem; tell the person to make the old hard disk a slave to the system that is working by changing or making the settings of the harddisk a slave and connecting it to the system using IDE cable. Stay blessed.

gbeborun:
Pally, it is not an embarrassment at all (having your HND) but in the present day Nigeria i strongly believe that the certificate is not fit for purpose!!! It's been badly ridiculed and bastardized. I think the reasoning in the high places is that if the Bsc holder cannot perform, what then can the HND holder deliver.
I think this HND of a thing should be scrapped!
What a bad way for Nigerians to reason. If Bsc holders become incompetent, it directly implies that no other persons including the HND holders can be competent. May God save this country called Nigeria.

Maskman, help me tell dem oo. a lot of people in nigeria believe that if you go to a polytechnic or graduate from a polytechnic you cannot be as good or intelligent as those who go to or graduate from university. That is nigeria for us oo, certificate crazy nation.

Let government allow polytechnics in Nigeria to start running their own masters program.

Let his time come now oo. I want to see that man suffer the way he made many Nigerians to suffer. He turned so many children into orphans and so many women into widows. This man IBB is not better than Saddam and Charles Taylor in any way. Infact Leaders like Idi-Amin, Mobutu and Abacha were even better than him. At least Abacha 4 once pardoned convicted coup plotters (OBJ and co.) who were suppose to be executed. IBB must surely pay for his sins and evil deeds here on earth before going to face the judgement of God. Nigerians should stand up and fight for the souls that were killed unjustly during his reign as Nigerian leader. If IBB will not be charged and prosecuted for murder, then people like Gen. Bamaiyi and Major Al-Mustapha should be set free too. There is no point caging a lion and allowing a tiger to move freely. What is the difference between the the lion and the tiger in the jungle?? We all know them to be carnivores!! Abi??
PoliticsIs Gen. Ibrahim B. Babangida A Sacred Cow? by ishmael(op): 9:19am On Aug 22, 2006
If people like Saddam Hussein of Iraq and Charles Taylor of Liberia are being detained and tried for murder and genocide, why is it that IBB of Nigeria is still a free man?? If people like Gen Bamaiyi and Major Al-mustapha who have been in detaintion for the past 7 years are charged for attempted murder and murder in Nigeria, why on earth is IBB still allowed to move freely?? Is it that the government of Nigeria is afraid to institute any charges against him??

Orlaitan, how u dey? Presently i,m not in school. But i got my HND about 6 years ago in one of the nigerian polytechnics. The guy i talked about did not go into the university immediately he was dropped from the polytechnic; he went into the university 3 or 4 years later when i was in my final year (HNDII), due to strikes and all that he is still in school. I asked after him from a friend last week, i was told the guy was getting close to finishing his program in the university. Cheers my guy!!
ComputersRe: How To Recover Files From A Dead Computer? by ishmael(m): 8:04pm On Aug 18, 2006
It's very easy. But if you can't do it give it to a professional to do it 4 u. Follow these steps.

1. Remove the hard disk drive from the bad system.
2. Take it to another system that is perfectly working.
3. Change the settings of the HDD from the bad system to that of a slave.
4. Slaving it means it will be recognised as a 2nd hard disk by that working system while
the main hard disk will be the master hard disk drive.
5. Go to setup and check if the system can see and recognise the 2nd HDD as a slave.
6. If it can be seen and recognised as a slave drive then, save the settings.
7. Allow the system to boot to desktop, then check by opening mycomputer you will see
the slave drive there; either as drive D or E depending on what the master drive is.
8. If you know the name(s) of the file(s) you are looking for use the names to search, then
copy them out and save in the master HDD or to a flash drive if you have one.

Cheers!!

My guy, its not a laffing issue o. I have seen so many people that could not do well in the polytechnic that later went to the university; men surprisingly they were able to cope there. I have a friend who was dropped during the pre-ND program in computer science because he could nt scale thru to ND1, he left and went to one of the FUT's and today he should either be in his 400 or final level in elect/elect, imagine dat. Please let the polytechnics flush out those that are not worthy to be there so that standard of academics in the polytechnics will not fall down completely. I think Ilaro poly did the right thing.

why not pick a particular school or some particular schools, get the data from them if they will agree. You can use such schools as ur case study or studies. getting from waec would have been the best option since u,ll be 100% sure that the data given to you is not bias. But i will try and see if i can lay my hands on any, i will let you know. Cheers.
