Yes, Donzman it takes 2 years to obtain a Diploma in nigeria. Please we are talking about Higher National Diploma and not Diploma. Your mom probably did a Diploma before proceeding to UNN. If she had gone to do HND she would have spend another 2 years to obtain it. And You cannot do HND in nigeria without 1st obtaining a National Diploma. Please the nigerian polytechnic system is structured this way:

National Diploma = 2 years
Industrial Training/placement = 1 year
Higher National Diploma = 2years
Total = ?
Please add it up yourself.

They call it nchii in ibo language. But the cost of learning and rearing it as given by that guy is very expensive.

If you want to broaden your horizon and think outside the box, go to the university for 4 years.

I'm begining to believe you are not in nigeria that is why you cannot know the number of years spent to get HND in nigeria. I'm laffing at your myopic posting honstly. You just talked about universities taking courses from other departments to widen student's horizon, and i told you that polytechnics too do same. Now you are bringing in another one that, that is why poly accountancy students cannot do well in accountancy with all those borrowed courses within 2 years. Have you asked your self how the university students manage to cope with the borrowed courses?? If they can cope with all that then the polytechnic students too will cope too. So you want to tell us that you do not know that it takes a minimum of 5 years to get HND in Nigeria??

So you too dont know that some nigerian polytechnic Rectors are professors?? Its a pity that you guys talk without facts. Always find out before you talk. And the university you're talking about some VC's are not professors, they are PHd holders. But wait 1st; what has the professor or Phd VC or Rector got to do with the school's standard and output of the students?? Nigerians una can claim standard no be small.

My guy you lie. Polytechnic accountancy students pick courses from almost all the departments. They do all that you just mentioned plus physics, chemistry and biology; name them. Abi you wan argue?? Find out from any polytechnic accountancy student or graduate to tell you if you dont know rather than speculating lies here on nairaland.

must everybody work for banks or other big companies?? If you are sure of yourself, you can use the knowledge and skills in you to create jobs for yourself and employ others to work 4 you. Whether 1st class or 3rd class degree or HND, prove your worth by being creative and innovative, and thereby creating a job 4 urself and employ people to work for you. Do you want to use your 1st class or 2.1 certificate to be doing routine and monotonous jobs, where there are no challenges?? The job you will be doing with your 1st class or 2.1 in some companies even[b] market women [/b] and mama akara can do same if given the chance. So there should nt be pride in being an employee with one's 1st class or 2.1 degree.I dont believe the best people are those with 1st class and 2.1; and i also dont belive the worst people are those with 3rd class and pass whether Bsc or HND. The best people should prove their best by creating their own jobs not by working for other people. Infact being an employee should only be for those that graduated with 3rd class or pass if that be the case that they are not too sound. Prove your 1st class or 2.1 by being self employed, else you dont worth having that 1st class or 2.1. After all people pay money to get 1st class and 2.1 degrees in nigeria because they know what nigerian employers want; just the certificate and not the knowledge and skills.

Yes o, to hell with polytechnic education in nigeria. We want only universities and Degrees. polytechnics and their HND certificates are of no use and significance to nigeria and nigerians; so why should such schools be allowed to exist in the first place??

My advice to polytechnic students and polytechnic graduates is to stand up, carry placards and do a peaceful demonstration demanding the closure and abolishment of polytechnics and polytechnic education in nigeria. Let the government close down all polytechnics in nigeria; we no longer want polytechnic education in nigeria because it is of no significance. Let them abolish polytechnics and Technical/vocational schools so that every nigerian can go to the university and get a Degree. Please if there is any one that knows who the president of National Association Of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) is, let him be informed about this option. Enough is enough, we no longer want polytechnic education in nigeria, it is university education and Degrees we want.

If Govt no go make polytechnics attractive like universities then all polytechnic graduates, students and staff should come out and do a peaceful demonstration in every state capital and Abuja asking them to scrap polytechnics and polytechnic education in nigeria. No body should be decieved in going to polytechnic in nigeria. Let all of us go to university and get Degrees, since that is what they want. Infact Technical and vocational schools at secondary level should be scrapped too. NBTE should be be abolished and lets have only NUC and universities in nigeria.

Infact we are going to give government one last chance. If they fail to make to meet to the demands of polytechnics and polytechnic graduates, we will mobolize all poly graduates and poly staff to carryout a national demonstration and campaign for the closure of all polytechnics in nigeria. We will no longer need polytechnics again; let everybody go to university and get any degree he/she wants. Why should polytechnics exist in nigeria when they are of no significance??

The problem is the university people, some of them dont want to agree that polytechnic graduates are as good as them or even better than them in some aspects. University graduates that did ND or HND before proceeding to do a university degree have told them loud and clear that polytechnics are not what they think they are, but they are still arguing blindly. The truth of the matter is that if they feel Bsc is superior to HND then they should never be afraid to allow HND holders compete favourably with them anywhere.

It will soon be settled; let national assembly finish make we see.
