Christianity EtcRe: Questions? Comments? Complaints? Talk To The Moderators Here by JeSoul(op): 8:47pm On Jun 15, 2012
frosbel: Hi Jesoul I suggest you call logicboy , must be a teenager of some sort , to order.

Reason : Derailing of articles for example this one https://www.nairaland.com/964365/last-minute-sin-take-one.

We take no offence when atheists join our discussions for the purpose of enlightenment or disagreement ,but when rudeness, insults and lack of courtesy become the order of the day, the whole purpose of the discussion is defeated.

Thank You.
Taken care of. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Christianity EtcRe: Will Last Minute Sin Take One To Hell? by JeSoul(f): 8:47pm On Jun 15, 2012
Thread cleaned by me. Sorry to any innocent posts/posters whose comments also had to be axed.

@future posters,
the OP clearly stated this:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AND PLEASE those of other religion can open similar thread and discuss this. With due respect I want only Christians to contribute here and I don’t mean to insult anyone I just don’t want this to degenerate to religious war as in some cases.
she even asked nicely smiley. So please respect her request for christians only. Thanks.
Christianity EtcRe: Science And Religion - A Conflict Or Harmony? by JeSoul(f): 3:12pm On Jun 15, 2012
logicboy: Wow. Just wow.

Answer a simple question; If religion is not in conflict in science why is it that schools had to go to court with before they could teach evolution as science and remove creationism from science and other factual classes?
Martian is doing a good job so I'll just quote him:

Religion only stands in conflict with science for those who feel religious claims are should tally with scientific view. Those are christians and evangelical atheists
And I'll modify it to say "some christians" as I personally don't feel as a christian (and a scientist if I may be allowed to add) any need whatsoever to 'reconcile' science with religion. The two are seperate and distinct disciplines.
Christianity EtcRe: Is It A Sin To Burn A Bible? by JeSoul(f): 3:06pm On Jun 15, 2012
Hence my response...

Logicboy I’ve read your post more than once and I understand perfectly what you are trying to pose. Burning a bible or any other revered articles of another’s belief system may not be a “sin” depending on the individual but it is insensitive (irrespective of whether it’s a retaliation or in honour of a rival believer’s deity) but you have quite conveniently presented the issue in a context where burning the bible would be most appropriate. Thus it doesn’t fit well with the question since you’ve tailored the motives. Besides endangering the bible will only appreciate its worth.
logicboy: 100% agree!
Hmmm...unless I'm misunderstanding (emofine pls correct if I am) but it doesn't appear that logicboy understood your point here, the simple "I agree" is indicative of that.
Christianity EtcRe: Is Wearing Of Trousers By Female A Sin? by JeSoul(f): 3:03pm On Jun 15, 2012
Oh the irony of a bunch of fellas discussing what a woman should or should not be "allowed" to wear. Its not your collective faults grin

Some have tried sha to defend women, kudos. Others, I just shudder.
Christianity EtcRe: Science And Religion - A Conflict Or Harmony? by JeSoul(f): 2:56pm On Jun 15, 2012
Solid comments from Martian. I agree there is no conflict.

I will only like to add that the conflict is not only fueled by some christians but also atheists a la Dawkinian style (such as logicboy) who hijack sciencific theories and attempt to use them to comment on religious matters.
Car TalkRe: Nairalanders: How Do You React When Your Car Is Hit? by JeSoul(f): 1:52pm On Jun 15, 2012
LOL Were they serving liquor in that concert? wink cheesy
grin grin grin my sister I went beserk. Soon as I suspected/detected a bit of racist behavior from his white behind all bets were off. I cannot stand fools like that.
Car TalkRe: Nairalanders: How Do You React When Your Car Is Hit? by JeSoul(f): 1:47pm On Jun 15, 2012
Haha, funny topic. Here in the US you can hardly 'escape' after hitting someone's car so people are generally more civil and simply exchange insurance information - as long as there are no injuries which will lead to the arrival of the police & ambulance.

Around 1:30 am one night dropping off a friend after a concert we'd had at our university, we stopped to use the ATM. My husband (boyfriend at the time) is sitting in front & my friend is in the back. As I'm about to exit the parking lot this car comes racing out of nowhere in the wrong lane also trying to exit the lot, and the front end of my car hit the front end of his, diagonally. I look around to make sure my passengers are okay, and then proceed to come out and check on the other driver. Soon as I exit the ideeiot is screaming all kinds of obsenities at me, making it out to be my fault when he's clearly in the wrong lane & speeding in a parking lot and to make it worse he's drunk...

Mehn lol...completely forgetting that I just came from a christian concert I unleashed a fury on him that I didn't even know I possessed. I got all up in his face and started shouting, "are you insane?" "you were driving in the wrong lane and your car is still in the wrong lane or are you blind?" "drunkard" "how dare you speak to me like that?" "are you crazy" "is it because I'm black & a woman you think you can intimidate me?" "oh hell no" "you're in for one hell of a fight you fool" "I'm calling the police and we'll see who spends the night in jail cos you're obviously driving drunk" "fool" "ideeott" "you're messing with the wrong person" cheesy cheesy cheesy

My husband & friend were stunned lol. Having never seen relatively quiet me explode like that. The guy himself went silent and his friends, 3 of them who were also in the car, came over and started apologizing for him & begging me. I no gree, I continued to yell at the guy and soon enough he just sat back down inside his car lol. Fortunately, my honda (insert props here for solid hondas) at the time was undamaged but his car looked bad, front bumper was crushed and fallen off and the engine was leaking fluid, it would need to be towed in that condition. I calmed down and decided to let it go at the pleading of my hubby & friend, exchanged info and drove off. Looking back I could've reacted differently, but I don't regret one second of it lol.

Christianity EtcRe: Christianity For Christians. by JeSoul(f): 3:02pm On Jun 11, 2012
logicboy: Are you mixing me up with your Nairaland husband "Logic Mind". There is no possible way, I could be the most complained about poster. I'm not a saint but I cant be that bad?
Lol. Is it really that hard for you to believe?

As for you Jesoul, you just showed what is wrong with christianity with its "heaven and forgiveness" doctrine. So, Davidylan insults then apologises and then insults again in a never ending loop? Jesoul are you changing your name to Jesus because the theory is that Jesus is the guy that forgives always? Even if I am the most complained about guy on Nairaland, it doesnt change the fact that Davidylan is a verbal thug. Why do we get unequal treatment? Why is Logicboy more notorious than Davidylan if not for a christian bias?
Again, don't selectively read my posts. I treat ALL posters in this section with the same lenient hand. And as I said David hasn't been a regular poster in this section for a while so I'm not sure why he's your main complaint despite his absence. I respond when I see a problem and I've only seen one with David once this past yr - I'm not on every single thread to know when posters go off line, its up to you to complain and you have never officiallyu complained about David on the mod thread (unless I'm wrong & I missed it). Please provide evidence where I've seen him misbehave and looked the other way. All these accusations will not suffice for wiser minds.

I dont have a problem with your moderation most of the time. My only problem is that you cant see that you will always have a bias as a christian- a christian bias. Is it not mostly christians that complain about me? Half of the complaints would be as a result of debunking their threads- not insults.
I'm a human being and so therefore I WILL be susceptible to be biased - that is why this section has a christian mod, an atheist mod, a muslim mod (mukina) and an neutral mod (Seun) - so are we all partial to only christians?

I've said my piece and will leave it at that.

Christianity EtcRe: Christianity For Christians. by JeSoul(f): 2:32pm On Jun 11, 2012
Odunnu,
my sister thanks. I appreciate the vote of confidence. You're a mod so you understand the difficulties.

And @all Christians in general,
I appeal to you all to not make Seun's life any more difficult. It may not be 'fair' not to have 'our' own section but let us rise above that and show we can be tolerant even when we're being abused. Open christian only topics (and be sure to specify that in the title) and the mods will make sure it is free from non-christian interference. If it is gate-crashed, don't fall into a fighting match or war of words, report on the mod thread and we will ban the offender.

And likewise do not incite the atheists into insulting you. A lot of the time some christians will open threads aimed at irking atheists and then complain when they arrive and fire back. Don't expect the mods to 'intervene on your behalf' when you started the fight.

This section can accomodate all of us if we respect one another, refrain from incendiary comments and behave like the adults we all claim to be. I'm a christian, and many of the atheists/agnostics etc in this section are good friends of mine & I respect a lot. Don't let the empty barrels making the most noise drown out the many quality posters we have in the section. I believe with a little understanding and a lot of patience we can all peacefully co-exist. Thank you all & cheers.
Christianity EtcRe: Christianity For Christians. by JeSoul(f): 2:23pm On Jun 11, 2012
dekung: While it is true that there is no christian section on NL, I believe there is a thread opened for them to air their Godly view. The thread is always on front page and I dont think I have ever visited that thread like I have never visited the Islamic thread. Talking about people that are insultive and uncouth, I think honour should be given to two people Davidylan and Vedaxcool. Davidylan cannot make a sentence without issuing at least 3 insulting words and aam not sure MODs have ever banned, warned or deleted any of his posts. Logicboy challenged Jesoul on this and am surprised she hasnt responded. In my opinion I think the forum should be merged into a single forum. Because once Seun starts creating section then there would be need for subsection just like Lagosshia is asking for different sub sections for Suni, shia etc. Christian to would start requesting baptist section, anglical section, Daystar section etc
Hi Dekung, in response to that, lemme first say when you become a mod, you'll quickly understand that you have to pick your spots and not spend time replying to every accusation or else you'll find yourself uneccesarily on the defensive for no good reason. But I realize others are probably curious too so let me reply that...

In the yrs I've been modding I have banned 3, at the most 4 people from this section, and within the last year only 1 person. In other words, bans are my last resort as I've found that 99% of posters respond positively when I send them a caution or kindly ask them to refrain (although I guess posters will prefer the mods be more strict from here on). David will be the first to tell you he can do better with his behavior, but everytime I've come across him (and he hasn't even posted in this section for a while unless I'm mistaken), he has apologised and the peace was restored to the thread. And this goes for not just David, this is how I treat everyone and a lot of the time both parties are guilty of insulting each other. Logicboy is complaining here, but he is the poster I receive the most complaints about most recently, I wonder if he's curious as to why he hasn't be banned ever?

So Dekung there you have it. Cheers brother.
Christianity EtcRe: Petition To Seun For The Creation Of Christian And Shia Islam Forums by JeSoul(f): 6:43pm On Jun 10, 2012
LagosShia, I sympathize with the issues you may be having in the muslim section.

But the further creation of seperate sections is not the solution. I personally do not support any new sections. We all need to learn how to better co-exist with one another.

And oh PastorAIO, thks, you're right I'm usually only around weekdays, a little under the weather today so @home.

Logic Mind: ok, i admit, that post may have passed a limit and would merit a ban so I apologise and thank you for your restraint.
You're a perplexing fellow. I have seen you engage with gentlemanly conduct worthy of admiration, and then slip to the depths with posts like that. I know some christian posters around here antagonize & provoke the atheists and in those cases I don't blame you but in that case you went off by yourself. Thanks anyways for acknowledging, I appreciate that.

it was a sort of completion to another "bow down in total submission" post by Odunnu, (see below) which you didn't delete by the way. But why remove those praising my god and that of many igbos, the great Amadioha?
As I replied on your other thread, that thread is a christian thread and has been there for years. I had left your previous posts even though they didn't belong in good faith, until you went overboard with that last post. Odunnu is a christian and was posting as she always does in praise of her God. As you have already done, open a seperate thread to praise your god and leave the christians in peace. Thanks.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Can't I Praise My God In This Section? by JeSoul(f): 6:27pm On Jun 10, 2012
Logic Mind: Jesoul please stop this hypocrisy. My qustion is about my posts praising amadioha which you deleted. Why are you adressing another issue.
Ok, that post may be offensive, I admit. But why delete all my previous posts which were total praises for my God?
Why threaten ban if I post again?
hmmm....I'm not sure if you're deliberately playing here.

That thread is a christian thread and has been there for years, so my leaving your previous posts there in the first place was a show of accomodation of something that didnt belong, until you abused that accomodation with that last post. Odunnu is a christian and was posting as she always does in praise of her God. What exactly is your beef?

If you want to praise your god, you did the right thing, open a seperate thread and do so and no mod will disturb you.

Christianity EtcRe: Christianity For Christians. by JeSoul(f): 5:23pm On Jun 10, 2012
Odunnu, you raised some good points for thought, and as you said, much of it is out of the hands of the mods. The religion section is not the christian section and as such, we all have to learn to play nice together.

Personally, I think a lot of this is a tempest in a teacup. Atheists have been in this section since I've been on NL, its only a recent influx of maybe 4-5 heavy handed posters that open countless threads that make it seem like the section has been run over. I've seen many seasons in the section, so I'm far less concerned. We don't need a new section, maybe Missy's suggestion is within order:
It's needless to say I agree with you that the level of intolerance and disrespect towards Christians and their credence is a saddening shame, but I do not think having a section for Christians will solve the problem.
Should one be created, it's not going to be restricted to Christians alone, so what's the use, as these uncouth elements would still find their way there.
I think the Religion section needs strict moderators, I have no idea how the present mods operate though.
No insolent post should last more than 60 seconds and no regular offender should be spared a ban.
If the mods are already strict, get stricter.
That can certainly be done...at the risk of posters crying 'censorship' and 'intolerance' etc etc. Its really a catch 22. But if that's what the admin says we do, then it shall be done.

Cheers my sisters.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Can't I Praise My God In This Section? by JeSoul(f): 5:10pm On Jun 10, 2012
Normally I'd walk past threads like these but for the sake of others reading, it always pays to reserve ones comment before jumping to conclusions. This is what logicmind posted on the christian thread that led to my deleting his posts:

Logic Mind: Oh! Jesus! I bow down and lift up my skirts and pull down my pants for you in total submission. Put it wherever you want oh! most holy one.
Funny enough he failed to mention that his previous posts (days before) on praising this amadioha had been left untouched until he provoked further with the above. Childish, is the word that comes to mind.
Christianity EtcRe: Questions? Comments? Complaints? Talk To The Moderators Here by JeSoul(op):
Pastor AIO: She's only here during the weekdays. Wait till tomorrow.
Wassup sir? Get the answer to that your question? I wouldn't take the new email notification too seriously, its notified me before but I didn't see anything in my inbox.

Logic Mind: Jesoul, my sister, I can see you deleted my posts where I was praising my god. Is my god, Amadioha banned from this section? Why are others allowed to praise their gods and not me.
Where you also praising your god when you posted this on that thread?

Logic Mind: Oh! Jesus! I bow down and lift up my skirts and pull down my pants for you in total submission. Put it wherever you want oh! most holy one.
next you'll come back & claim you were banned/deleted for no reason. As I've said, stay off derailing christian topics with incendiary posts. I think I've been quite generous with you, I won't be next time. Cheers.

What: Please i need to deactivate/delete (NOT MODIFY) my NL account

When: with immediate effect.

How: I want ALL my posts to be inaccessible to the public, but i do understand if there is a need to keep them in your system for up to six months. Also my handle and profile details such as my email and password should cease to exist on this forum.

Why: Serious privacy concerns

Kindly treat as very urgent.
Thanks
Hi Moodie, did you get my reply?

Logic Mind: Jesoul please kindly explain this to me.
People open threads on RELIGION section to discuss something in general but which concerns muslims as well as many other religions.
Somehow, in this general discussion, as soon as Islam is mentioned, the topic gets moved to islamic section where as you well know and acknowledged, freedom of discussion is restricted.
Why do you move these posts?
Are we no longer allowed to mention islam again?
I have in mind a particular post where a christian was beheaded for his faith by some mad muslims. This discussion concerns christians more as they are the victims here. Why the discussion should be moved to the section of the perpetrators of the crime beats me. Are their murderous threats succeeding in giving them rights over christians and atheist in NL?
Why are you aiding and abetting their intolerance and threats and censorship and spread of fear etc?

If a discussion is strictly islamic, please by all means let them have it but if the discussion concerns other faiths or non faiths, they do not have any exclusive right to it.
I had this discussion with Tbaba a few pages ago.

Up until a month or two ago we were leaving several islam/muslim topics here in the general section, especially when it was a topic that was muslim but aimed at the general audience. No qualms from me, that makes sense & I agree with you. However, the site belongs to Seun and he moved any topics that we left here, signaling he wanted a more strict adherence to move all islam topics to the islam section. And even then, there are still a few 'lightly-themed' islam topics here in the general section.

That said, a topic won't be moved if its a "beheading of a christian by muslims" as that is a christian-related topic so feel free to open it. I have no ulterior motive to move it and I don't think any threads that simply mention "islam" are moved, any examples of such threads?

And also please keep in mind as Muskeeto mentioned, Seun's the only one with a personal stake in NL. He's the one who got threatened and I don't blame him for trying to protect himself and his hard work on NL.
Christianity EtcRe: Email Threat Received From Maclatunji - Islam Section Moderator by JeSoul(f): 3:31pm On Jun 06, 2012
Frosbel, what constitutes a "threat" in your book? That's a pretty strong word.

@All,
look, majority of folks in the religion section do not like/approve of the strict rules that obtains in the Islam section - but it is their perogative to legislate as they see fit. If you don't like it then don't go there undecided I personally don't. No use complaining here where we have nothing to do with it and can do nothing about it.

Anyways...pls continue on the mod thread on top the page, that's what these kinds of complaints are for. Thanks.

HealthRe: Quack Indian Doctors Allegedly Exploiting Nigeria In Abuja by JeSoul(f): 10:56pm On Jun 05, 2012
I wonder oh.

And I can never get my head around Nigerians always demonising Nigeria and going on about UK/US being the Eldorado whereby all the Doctor treating them has to do is waive their magic wand to take away their ailment. Just read this morning that the great Ol' USA ranks 31st for child mortality oh, whereas one would think they'd rank 1st considering what they spend on healthcare, SMH.
Just one small comment on this. The high US infant mortality rate is not due to a lack of access to healthcare or a problem with the quality of healthcare - but rather a problem with the lifestyle, habits & behaviors of the women - leading to the birth of babies with higher risks of death. There're plenty of articles on the issue all over the web, ex:

http://reason.com/archives/2009/08/24/the-truth-about-health-care-an
No one denies the problem. Our infant mortality rate is double that of Japan or Sweden. But we live different lives, on average, than people in those places. We suffer more obesity (about 10 times as much as the Japanese), and we have more births to teenagers (seven times more than the Swedes). Nearly 40 percent of American babies are born to unwed mothers.

Factors like these are linked to low birth weight in babies, which is a dangerous thing. In a 2007 study for the National Bureau of Economic Research, economists June O'Neill and Dave O'Neill noted that "a multitude of behaviors unrelated to the health care system such as substance abuse, smoking and obesity" are connected "to the low birth weight and preterm births that underlie the infant death syndrome."
Infact I think if we took this principle and applied it to Nigerian healthcare - in other words encourage people to live, eat & practice healthier lifestyles, we can eliminate a good portion of the medical problems we have. Cheers.
