Romance › Re: Literate Or Illiterate Women, Which One Obey And Respect Their Husband Better? by JJYOU: 12:01pm On Jun 04, 2009 |
luxoire: some literate women would question you and seek reason in what you say / do. others wouldn't - it just comes down to an indivisula's predisposition.
an illiterate woman may be easier to control and take your word for gospel - however, bear in mind that the illiterate ones may be very uncivilised, barbaric and potentially ' dangerous' in the way they handle confirmtations and arguments, just because they do not know a 'better/civilised' approach on how to deal with things
for what it is worth - if you love a woman and you see something beautiful in her then encourge her to be the woman you want her to be - encourage her to maximise her potentials! I would like to think no man wants and unrefined woman on his arm in public - unless of course he marries her to keep her at home to amke babies with, whilst he continues to 'chase' other women outside i am not supposed to say you are mostly right cos you are female but you know you are right. i dont believe illiterates are that easy to manage. if they were why are there loads of fights and seperations in vilages. another thing most people dont look at is what has a typical un-educated person got to contribute to your life than use the resources to live up to the jones. a stuborn and difficult person will be educated or illiterate. i think people who want to live with them have some insecurity troubles. |
Family › Re: Do Polygamists Wear Wedding Rings? by JJYOU: 11:45am On Jun 04, 2009 |
Lagosboy: Of course each wife will have her wedding ring and the man will have one ring at any time. There is no complication in it at all. Lagosboy: Talk of a realist!!! i love people who face reality and are practical.
All these people clamouring for monogamy have several concubines and many girls will date married men otherwise how are these married men having girlfirends in the first insatnce. If you can sleep with a married man, enjoy his money it is hypocritical to condemn polygamy.
Some do some dont , it depends on the culture, religion and so on. The ring is not an issue of importance at all as far as i am concerned for men especially. How many of our fathers wear wedding rings lets look inwards first. trust u to represent the flag well wallex73: This is no doubt an interesting topic and it will no doubt provide me the needed opportunity to say a few things about polygamy. I cannot but always wonder why we as African cannot most of the time maintain our identity, our culture and values. We always want to toe the line of westerners and doing all they do that has to do with their culture and traditions. From time immemorial, our fore-fathers are polygamist in nature and things were a lot better during their time than now. One can hardly hear about divorce or unfaithfulness but what do we have on our hands today? Divorcee all the places. When are we going to embrace what is ours and do away with western values that negates our culture? A white man or woman gets married today and tommorow you see hi/her going to court for divorce and re-marrying again. What do we call such man or woman? They can give the flimsiest of reason for divorcing all in a bid to go into their adultrous relationship.
Rather than do that,is it not better to have different sizes and shapes you need in a woman as wives for yourself if you can afford it as long as the women have no objection to being in the relationship. Millions of weeding rings has been thrown into the lagoon as a result of infidelity. What then is so special about wearing this ring or not wearing it? Going spiritual,i want to add that most of the people God most loved in the holy bible are even polygamist. God is really not concerned about how many wife you have or do not have but only concerned himself with your heart. Ring is never an issue, please. you must be a mujahadeen. |

However, if you consider that Nigeria has a high population and this population is mainly illiterate, you may change your mind as to the purpose of procreation. JustGood: I dont think anyone would bring a child into this world purely for the purpose of working for them. It would be more to do with the level of illiteracy. Sometimes, it is also caused by idleness. If you have nothing to do, why not just keep banging yourselves? plus they are too uneducated to be bothered to use contraception. my brother you know we agree on most things i dont believe the high numbers of kids i see hawking were just created by idleness and illeteracy. the old men used to create farmer this newer generation do it. what makes me sad is hearing able bodied people tell you how industrious their kids are and do nothing other than source what most of the kids hawk. i could build enough jail to waste their lives as most of them are wasting these kids lives. it is one crime i wish i can stop today. too many clever kids being destroyed. |

Crime › Robbers Sack Banks In Nnewi, Kill Seven by JJYOU(op): 10:21am On Jun 04, 2009 |
Robbers sack banks in Nnewi, kill seven By Okodili Ndidi, Onitsha - 04.06.2009 IN what appeared like scenes in James Bond movies, armed robbers, numbering about nine, Wednesday, in broad daylight, rained terror on banks in the commercial city of Nnewi in Anambra state, leaving seven people dead and 19 others severely wounded. According to an eyewitness report, the robbers, who arrived the town in a black jeep, were said to have pursued a bullion van that was moving money to one of the new generation banks on Bank Road and when they were beaten by the bullion van driver, the robbers who were heavily armed with machines guns and AK47 riffles, shot their way into the banks that were clustered on the street, killing two policemen and five civilians. While some of the banks were lucky as the robbers could not gain entry into their vaults, others were not lucky as the robbers carted away huge sums of money. The robbery incident that lasted for over five hours, according to the source, was the deadliest attack on the business community and forced all the banks to shut down for the day. A lucky trader who was at the scene of the robbery, told the Nigerian Tribune that the robbers held the entire bank street hostage for several hours, while markets were shut down with traders running in all directions in apparent fear. Confirming the incident, the Anambra state Commissioner of Police, Amusa Bello, said that one policeman attached to one of the banks was shot dead at the spot and two others were severely wounded and were still in coma, adding that his men stood their ground and aborted the robbery despite the sophisticated weapons used by the robbers. “My men fought gallantly and what could have been a bloodbath was effectively resisted though we lost some of my best officers, I am still very proud of their gallant display, I have been there with the state governor and among the seven people killed is a legal practitioner who was in one of the banks at the time the robbers attacked. http://www.tribune.com.ng/04062009/news/news7.html |
Crime › N75m Fraud: Woman Jailed For Defrauding General by JJYOU(op): 10:17am On Jun 04, 2009 |
N75m fraud: Woman jailed for defrauding general 04.06.2009 A woman, Aishatu Abdullai, has been sentenced to10 years an imprisonment without an option of fine by a Lagos High Court over a housing scam. The presiding judge, Justice Joseph Oyewole, found the accused guilty in a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences preferred against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC). In addition, she was ordered to pay the sum of N10 million as restitution to the victim, Alhaji Abdullai Musa Bashiru. Aishatu, alias Fatima Abdulai Aboki, together with others still at large, conspired to steal the original title document of a house at Park View Estate, Ikoyi belonging to one Major- General Aboki (rtd) and sold the property to the victim. The victim, a businessman needed a landed property in Ikoyi, and got to know that the General’s house in Park View was on offer for sale. He gave power of attorney to his lawyer, to negotiate with the General’s ‘agents’; unknown to him that he had fallen prey to fraudsters. The lawyer met and negotiated with Aisha and other members of her syndicate. According to the report, Aisha claimed to be the younger sister of the General who was said to be bedridden in Saudi Arabia hospital and had to sell the property to off- set his medical bills. To convince the victim, she gave her name as Aishatu Aboki. With this false identity, coupled with the presentation of the original title document to the property, the lawyer was convinced that he was making a genuine transaction on behalf of his client. http://www.tribune.com.ng/04062009/news/news14.html |
Crime › Female Fraudster Dupes Victim Of N8m - Robbers Snatch Woman’s Car, Fling Her Ba by JJYOU(op): 10:16am On Jun 04, 2009 |
Female fraudster dupes victim of N8m - Robbers snatch woman’s car, fling her baby into bush
Adelowo Oladipo, Lagos - updated: Tuesday 02-06-2009 Mrs. Adebimpe Olupero A female suspected fraudster, Mrs. Adebimpe Olupero, is now being held in one of the cells at the Police Special Fraud Unit, Milverton road, Ikoyi, Lagos State, for allegedly collecting N8 million from an unsuspecting victim. Crime and Security investigation gathered, that the suspect was arrested following a petition against her by one Mrs. Sola Agoro, alleging that the suspect duped her of the said amount in two installments of N4 million each. Crime and Security further gathered that before the long arm of the law caught up with Olupero, she had been using names and offices of top government functionaries both in Lagos and Ogun states, to swindle some unsuspecting members of the public, huge sums of money, promising them plump government unexisting contracts. However, in an encounter with the Crime and Security last weekend in Lagos, the suspect confessed to the crime and claimed that the N8 million she collected from the petitioner was meant to facilitate the award of some undisclosed contracts. She further disclosed that the contracts were to be facilitated from both the office of the commissioner for special duties in Lagos State and another one at the governor’s office, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Also, in an itnerview with the Crime and Security, the victim, Mrs. Sola Agoro, said after much pressure on the suspect that she allegedly informed her that she had sold the contracts which she collected from the two states to someone else. “Thereafter, she promised to refund my money and she issued a cheque, valued at N31 million and upon presentation at her bank, it was turned back. And the bank officials said the account had been dormant for a long time,” said Mrs. Agoro. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit, Mr. Saba M. Ndagi, said that the suspect would soon be arrainged in court for obtaining money under false pretences and for issueing dishonoured cheque at the conclusion of police investigation into the matter. MEANWHILE, the long arm of the law has caught up with two suspected dare devil robbers, Eyaro Ayodele and Auscar Akinsanya, who have been snatching exotic cars on Lekki–Ajah and Epe express roads. Crime and Security investigation gathered at the weekend, that the trouble began for the suspected men of the underworld recently when they took off from Ajegunle area of Lagos state, chattered a commuter bus and headed towards Alpha Beach, on Lekki, Ajah road, where they hatched their plans to dispossess vehicle owners of their cars. Crime and Security further learnt that the robbery gang, numbering about ten, out of which the two suspects whose ages were put at 24 and 20 years, were arrested, while the remaining eight others are now still at large. Insider police sources at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Pant Street, Yaba, said the suspected car snatcher allegedly divided themselves into two on each side of the road, as soon as they emerged from their hideout on the fateful day and laid siege on Lekki-Ajah expressway, after which they started snatching cars, at gun point. The police sources who preferred anonymity, further disclosed that the gang succeeded in snatching four different luxury cars. “Inside one of the cars, they met a few months old baby boy inside his mother’s car after it was snatched and the first suspect, Eyaro Ayodele, flung the baby out of the car into a nearby bush,” said the sources. It further noted that the dastardly act of the robber was witnessed by a public spirited Nigerian, Alhaji Saka Elsin, who was said to be driving his car with some of his security personnel at the time the baby was thrown into the bush. Elesin, the Chief Executive Officer, Elesin Security Services, Limited, Lagos, was said to have instructed his security aides to give Eyaro a hot pursuit in his company’s patrol van. In fact, the business man and his employees affected the arrest of the suspect, after which he handed him to the Police and upon interrogation, he mentioned the name of the second suspect, Akinsanya, as one of this brothers in crime,” recalled the police sources. Crime and Security checks further gathered that the baby had since been rescued by a combined team of police anti-robbery team and Elesin Security Services Ltd., and had been takenn to the hospital for treatment. Alhaji Saka Elesin said “we joined the police in rescuing him and we took the baby to a private hospital in Lagos for treatment and he was discharged a few hours later. Confirming the incident, the outgoing Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, Panti, Yaba, Mr, Nicholas Daru Nkedeme, in an interview with the Crime and Security, said the two suspects were now facing armed robbery and conspiracycharges at an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate Court. http://www.tribune.com.ng/04062009/tue/crime3.html

Politics › Re: Please Help Catch This Guy. by JJYOU: 10:07am On Jun 04, 2009 |
wirinet: Interesting topic, here is my 2 cents.
Every body is missing the point and looking at the branches instead of the root of the problem. The main reason why it looks like every Nigerian is corrupt are numerous but the main ones i will attempt to highlight below;
Destruction of our traditional values, Our traditional values that had placed our societies for hundreds if not thousand of years was destroyed by colonization and evangelization. We adopted western system and values without the necessary institutions to check its misuse. We threw away our cultural and religious values that come with a lot of obligation and taboos, to the one of not obligation and no responsibility as long as you believe. All your sins are wiped out until next week, when you ask for forgiveness again. All these lead to the killing of our conscience, and a dead conscience is the greatest tragedy that can befall a society.
So gradually we slipped into the "make money at any cost" syndrome. Of cause the syndrome has afflicted all our institutions, including our families, clans and governments. Such that the ingredients that makes and sustains a society which is collective interest is dead, it is now just individual interest.
Added to this we all view a successful person as the person with the greatest acquisition of wealth, A candidate for Oba or Emir is not the most eligible but the richest, even if he is far from the throne, almost all our national honours, chieftaincy titles and even religious titles, go to the person with the greatest wealth.
Now in all these what values are parents inculcating in their children, since the youth cannot get their hands on govt. money, they resort to other means.
I remember it started with drug trafficking in the 70s and 80s, then to credit card, banking and dole fraud, eventually 419 and internet fraud became the order of the day.
There was a time when lots of youth "checked out" (remember Andrew). This was because Babangida's SAP devalued the Naira almost overnight and pound and Dollars became very attractive, so a lot of unemployed and underemployed youth flocked to london look for pounds. In order to stem the wave of Nigerians entering Britain, the Govt introduced Vasa restrictions in 86. Before that you could walk to the airport, buy a ticket and you are in London in 6 hrs. All you need was a passport and the fair was less that N400.
So we blame all Nigerian elders especially our Leaders and Politicians who show the way and are role models for the youth, and not the yahoo yahoo boys, the international prostitute and the drug courier, who is try to make their parent proud ( if they succeed)
PS: I think it is unfair to compare a crime of Forgery with that of Rape or Armed robber. What made they guy case serious was because he jumped bail and not because he forged his certificate. If his case was deemed serious, he would not have been granted bail. In Nigeria the crime of forgery is not even punished, we have so many fake doctors, fake nurses, fake lawyers, fake Engineers, etc. The National assembly is full of people with fake degrees and those caught are never prosecuted. you made a good case until you spoilt it with your ps message. can you explain what you think the difference is sir? I think it is unfair to compare a crime of Forgery with that of Rape or Armed robber. |

Properties › Re: Why Are Nigerians Not Morgage Friendly? by JJYOU: 9:46am On Jun 04, 2009 |
it is a common practice of most nigerian banks to transfer bad and doubtful debts incured in urban areas to rural branches books as if the facilities were original given to the rural areas of nigeria. it is one massive con on the society beknown: It is not Nigerians that are not mortgage friendly. It is Nigerian banks and the FG that are not mortgage friendly.
It is not only mortgage. Getting any loan from banks in Nigeria is a problem. Only the rich and famous are able to get loans.
Also, if you look at the rate of loans in Nigerian banks, it can cause somebody headache. If you are used to getting loans for personal or business use in UK, USA and other developed countries, you will be surprise with the system in Nigeria.
The major reason why there is development in UK and USA is the availability of credit facilities at affordable interest rate. In the UK, there are currently interest rate of 6% - 8% for personal loan without any collateral (unsecured loan).
Good and sustained development cannot happen if ordinary people cannot get access to loans. No wonder Nigeria is for the rich and famous and crime is on the increase - killing, stealing, armed robbery, kidnap, etc. there can never be any justifications for any crime. give these same fools loans they will stil be at work doing their evil deeds |

lagerwhenindoubt: I think the idea is appropriate but the current political environment will ensure it is used for political gain.
I have been robbed at home twice in 2007 and once in 2008 (This year has been smooth so far) and a friend got robbed last night at home. in all instances a police check point was several meters away from my house, infact there is a police station on my street. Adetola Str. robberies occur like there was no form of security and i realized why.
Fed Police are not prepared psychologically for the day's business because they busy collecting passage fees from okadas and bus drivers (occasionally the unfortunte tax-paying citizen who forgot his drivers license)
A well trained state police and well paid ones will do a better job i hate to say this so long as they are recruiting nigerians it will be almost be as bad as the police we already have. |

a man never writes his wife off the will. where did you get the notion of men writting off wife from will in my post?
yes the wealth must remain in the family, let me ask u again, is the wife not family? this laws of yours are baseless JJYOU
passed on to kids, wat if the man had only girls, and no man, wouldnt it be more terrible that the female kids will be passing it on to their husband and his family, after ' marriage' ? by this you mean a husband can never be a family member it has to be the wives only club. not even you makes this kind of one sided case
most of the things my husband does or buys, he uses my name for it, and dats how its supposed to be. why is this so? can i suggest your husband does this because he trust you 100% a luxury most men dont have.
infact i am the next of kin if anything happens, and i repeat again, dats how its supposed to be why is this a fighting matter for us here? i am not a member of the husband family. you guys do whatever suits you best. as i said earlier you have to dig into inheritance laws in africa to know why they are so. they were not made for here today gone tomorrow marriages or celebrity marriages. no society survives on anarchy and lawlessness like we have now. you are assuming most men die before thier wives so saying a daughter inheriting the fathers wealth makes it go to the husband is the same argument against a widow inheriting in the first place as in just in case she goes to marry again. there are no fixed cross cultural rules on these things. you know i believe we should all look after our partners in life and from beyond but i do believe we remove the controls of the families over the estate of the deceased at our peril. it is so easy to come on nairaland and ask for one 2/3 bed room house with its mortgage debts and liabilities to be inherited by the wife. by the way apart from films have you seen any family throwing the wife and kids away from their fathers house? in my almost 50yrs i have never seen one. can i ask for all the throw away this and that custom you guys continually shout for what are you guys planning to replace the family with? facebook, beebo and NL freinds or what? i am asking becos i am begining to get curious cos having lived in a society that threw away what it had and seeing the repercurtions in emptiness and loneliness i am not very excitted about throwing away what we have as in family structures just yet. |
