JASONjnr:They may actually be the redeemers of our corruption-ridden university system if they play their cards well. |
Marwa to the world! |
Their not obeying court orders will amount to contempt of courts and that is an offence that attracts varying degrees of punishments. That can provide a valid ground to deregister ASUU as a union and even have the leadership of ASUU arrested for prosecution. Once ASUU is deregistered, then any lecturer that fails to start work would be sacked with no benefits. I'm not a lawyer though, but some of these things are common knowledge. |
lookingfly:I'm aware they have gone on several incessant strikes and even got paid on compassionate grounds after such strikes. But the government wants to change the status quo this time. Nigerian youths who have borne the burdens of the strikes are now supporting the government to put a final stop to the incessant strikes. You know why? A critical look at the reasons for the strikes would reveal that they are not necessary! |
lookingfly:Protesting by going on strike for 8 months without considering the effects of such strike on students ![]() |
Why always Abia ![]() That state seems to be the devil's headquarter in Igboland |
collins07:Payment of salaries start from the time ASUU resumes, so they'll be fully paid for when they cover those backlog of lectures! If lecturers make students waste 8 months of their lives in this modern age, then they should be ready to forfeit their salaries! |
If ASUU leaders don't want to be disgraced further, they better obey the courts and resume! A word is enough for the wise |
Tenrack:Nothing like overdo o! I agree with the "coming around and going around" in your post though. Maybe the ladies you defend are having their own "coming around"! Do you know the depression guys go through when they're broke shamed and made to believe they deserve no erect1on for having no jobs and money So, what do you expect when they eventually make it![]() |
It's called CHOICE @poster! Ladies are free to make choices of financially stable men while guys are also free to make choices of younger, fresher and tighter coochies! Or are guys not supposed to have choices ![]() |
Omenlon:Honestly! Prof Osodeke's approach towards the strike is a great disservice to the rest of the intellectuals that make up ASUU. He's too combative, forgetting that lobbying is the best approach to win the politicians over! |
Emperornelson:Your B.Sc pharmacology is meant to train you as a researcher and lecturer in the field of pharmacology. Any other job outside that is secondary. I'll advise you to rewrite JAMB and apply for pharmacy. Don't go and do B.Sc in pharmacology only to come and start constituting nuisance to the noble profession of pharmacy. |
Kasssandra:TETFUND shouldn't be just for erecting structures in the universities. Some resources from there should be channeled into equiping the labs and lecture halls. ASUU asked for 1.3trillion naira to revitalize the universities, but government has spent over 2trillion naira since that time. I know at least 3 federal universities that have benefited from such efforts of government. There's gradual improvement in the system. I know more funds need to be invested but that can be through a more constructive engagements of government. Not by going on incessant protracted strikes! |
Kasssandra:No lecturer in public university wants to lecture in Nigerian private universities because their pay is poorer. Plus the public university lecturers enjoy other benefits like job security, more research grants and postgraduate funding from government. |
francom:Nonsense talk! All Ngige's children schooled in Nigeria, but same cannot be said about some of these ASUU members. |
Nice one. The decision is in national interest |
FreeStuffsNG:But we need our borders tightened to prevent the influx of the foreign products from India and China. We also need a well controlled drug distribution network within Nigeria. That's what the new coordinated wholesale centers aim to achieve, and hence there's need for all and sundry to support the initiative. |
UjuJoan2:No woman is ready to suffer in marriage but are the ones that enjoy the benefits of marriage most! |
I hope Falana is representing ASUU in courts pro bono? Or he's just looking for every means to chop money from them ![]() |
Lucrativress:Be hypergamous all you want but allow guys make their own choices of having younger, fresher girls whose coochies are still intact and fresh. Let's see where your hypergamy would lead you to. Stop forming motivational speaker when a man wants to make his own choices. |
Owologbo:The government is not turning any federal university into an abandoned project! TETFUND is government's intervention towards funding our universities and other institutions! I know many universities where TETFUND has invested so much money within the last ten years! I have academics who have been sponsored abroad for their postgraduate studies. Everytime I mention about TETFUND interventions in our universities, y'all keep mute because it's either you are ASUU members who know the truth but are wasting students time on protracted strikes for their selfish gains or you're just political jobbers supporting the opposition parties with the erroneous believe that your parties can bank on the ASUU strike to win election. I know all is not uhuru as it concerns funding of our universities, but compare what we have now to what obtained some few years back, you'll realize that we are making some progress. So, there's no need for this unnecessary protracted strike! It is destructive to the our quest for a better university education! Recently, we heard news that UK university lecturers wanted to strike, but the strike was just for 10days with intermittent lecture periods in between. The goal was to call the attention of government to their needs while they dialogue and resolve the matter without causing harm to the students' psyche nor delaying them in school. But here, ASUU goes on strike without minding the impacts of the strikes on students. |
Ifakiland:Animal is your father's nickname. Son of an animal! |
alimiadedayo1:It is you and your father that need your mental healths taken care of. |
Mccullum:Don't mind them o! If I didn't know a councilor who is close to me, then I would have believed the lie out of ignorance. The truth is that salaries of political office holders in Nigeria are exaggerated! They don't earn all what they're said to be earning. Only the corrupt ones loot so much money, just like we also have some corrupt lecturers looting from the University's purse and from students! I don't even want to bare all my thoughts on this strike so I don't shake too much tables on the matter! Our lecturers want to be paid like the American lecturers even after having education almost free of charge in Nigeria and with less taxes to worry about in Nigeria. Ok o |
Esseite:If Nigerians want a revolutionary change in how our political system works, then everybody must be involved. NLC, private universities, everybody! You shouldn't be cheering ASUU to continue holding some of our youths in a few public universities to ransome and still think that would cause any significant changes in our polity. I'm aware that some of you here supporting ASUU are not doing that because you care about quality education, some of you are political jobbers in the opposition camp who think you can capitalize on the unnecessary strike to win election. |
Epositive:I hope you know that government's expenditures are budgeted for? FG promised to release the financial aspect of ASUU'S demands in next year's budget, but ASUU did not agree. On salary review, FG also accepted to make some upward adjustments in their salaries, to be reflected in next year's budget but ASUU would have none of that. UTAS was said to have failed integrity tests so cannot be deployed as payment platform for the lecturers for now, yet ASUU is insisting that it must be deployed. Office of the accountant general of the federation has also asked to capture any peculiar allowances of lecturers on IPPIS but ASUU wouldn't take that. |
I heard that the FG will pay CONUA members the 7months salary together with October and November salaries. Nice gesture by FG to encourage CONUA in their quest to rescue our universities from being destroyed by ASUU. |
mindtricks:TETFUND is there already to fund the universities! Universities also generate IGR running into billions of naira yearly. ASUU should device a means to ensure transparency in use of funds by university management. If you have been to federal universities in recent times, you'll notice the existence of several TETFUND projects. Many lecturers are also being sponsored abroad for postgraduate studies by TETFUND. All these are pointers to the fact that government is not entirely aloof in funding our universities. Let ASUU channel their efforts towards ensuring proper deployment of TETFUND in strategic areas where funds are needed. Improvement on what government is doing already and in remuneration of lecturers can always be achieved through constructive engagements, not through incessant protracted strikes! |
Nosayer:Going to strike with the hope of using election pressure to force government into succumbing to their needs is enough display of lack of wisdom considering that the current president is not contesting for the election. Why couldn't ASUU strike at a time Buhari was contesting in 2019? Let me inform you that if Buhari decides to do anything for ASUU now, it can never be as a result of any campaign pressure. |
Badb0y4lyf:You're delusional! |
zarathustra:And the universities will become better by going on incessant strikes No reasonable academic would support the shutting of the universities for 8 months for whatever reason. |
Prof Osodeke and the rest of ASUU leaders are not very wise! I was supporting ASUU before but withdrew my support when it became obvious that wisdom had taken a back seat in the struggle. The best thing would have been to obey court order and return to class while negotiation continues. |
