Tegabadguy:Don't mind them. It's not about bride price o. They just want to acquire the wealth their fathers never had through marriage. That's why they look for rich simps whose wealths they'll extend to their poor birth families. |
Tegabadguy:You're very correct bro. Even here on nairaland, 98% of bitter evening newspapers are Igbos. They're the ones who're always quick to dish out fake marital advice and looking for young girls they'll deceive into having same fate as them. I'm Igbo but I must confess that the mindsets of our ladies have been so messed up with regards to marital relationships. I'm now searching beyond Igboland in case I decide to get married eventually. |
If ASUU is hoping on protests or pressures from Nigerians to end this strike, then the union is on a looooong thing. Nigerians don't really care about any quality education. What most care about is certificate to brag about. Nigerians hate intellectualism! This is because they don't understand the importance of quality education to the society. That is why they treat those who excel academically with little regards. That is why they don't regard higher educational qualifications. A country that understands the importance of sound education will not allow her universities to be closed for even one week, let alone seven months. Anybody who is expecting a protest like the #EndSARS campaign as means to end this strike need to think again. Nigerians won't protest over ASUU strike. Even NLC that would have helped to pressure the FG have gone cold. |
Op, you no try. That girl was probably implying that she didn't have appetite for food due to the headache. |
IamAtikulate:And over 60years after fighting them off, the country has remained a total mess. We now have the worst set of "slave masters" parading themselves as politicians. No more consideration of general good. Just selfish interests, and that has led to a total collapse of the nation. #BringBackOurBritishRule |
IamAtikulate:How I wish they still extended their rule to Nigeria. I'm pretty sure we would have since developed. |
WibusJaga:I laugh at some people when they assume only Africans believe in the supernatural |
By the way |
Everytime men must do this, men must do that. No wonder the male gender is gradually going into extinction. More female babies than males are born naturally these days while some males are transitioning into females. Nature selects the preferred gender! Let's not tilt the scale in favor of one gender but strive to find a BALANCE. |
RIP to the dead |
ASUU should thread carefully on this strike! You can't reject all pleas from both the high and mighty in this country to suspend the strike and expect to survive the onslaught that is bound to come your way. And I pity anybody who thinks Buhari cares about APC losing the next general election. He's not contesting the election, so why would he be bothered? Though I understand ASUU's plights, but I expected ASUU to be smarter than this, take what has been offered and suspend the strike before the strike snowballs out of control. If this strike is allowed to persist, many lecturers in the professorial cadre who are managing one chronic ailment or the other might not survive the strike, some lucky young lecturers would leave the country, some others would get employed by private universities while others would remain unemployed. Some students would transfer to private or state universities, others would opt for the study-abroad option, while others would drop out. The system would collapse and I'm sure Buhari wouldn't mind. I just wish sense would locate both ASUU and FG |
Randy100:But ASUU members get appointed by government into various positions! From the Vice president to the SGF, to ministers, NUC ES, JAMB registrar etc. I believe that if all these people in government who were once staunch ASUU members make a strong case for a better public university education, there won't be need for ASUU strikes anymore. Why is it that once ASUU members get appointed or elected into public offices, they jettison the struggle to reposition our university system ![]() I'm almost certain that even the current ASUU president when elected or appointed into public office would damn the so called patriotic struggle for which he is currently putting the lives millions of Nigerian youths on hold. |
maryjames9:So, ASUU should start appealing to Buhari's ego Is that how trade unions work?Public servants in this country seriously need to put their egos in check knowing full well that they're there to serve the people. They should learn to stop taking matters of public interests personal. Much as I would like ASUU to be more considerate and minimize their combative approach to the issue, I don't think your analogy of a polygamous man and his wives has any connection with the strike. Both sides should put personal egos in check and resolve the strike in public interest. Simple |
FG should begin payment of lecturers' withheld salaries immediately! If that is done and the ASUU NEC refuses to suspend the strike, then our suspicion of ASUU president having lent himself as a willing tool in the hands of opposition politicians would have been confirmed. Then the FG would have our full support to take drastic measures against them. I'm even sure that the majority of the lecturers would revolt against the ASUU leadership if the above scenario becomes the case. |
Adamu Adamu is about to complicate issues if the agenda of the Tuesday's meeting is to order reopening of universities. I hope he gets advised against such move! Applying force on ASUU didn't work during the military regimes let alone in a democratic dispensation. It'll be wise if ASUU NEC is invited for the meeting of Tuesday with a view to sorting out grey areas in the negotiation. Top on agenda of that meeting should be how to immediately begin payment of the lecturer's salary arrears. |
femeritus:He was wrong to have used the word "quack". I think the man spoke out of anger on that interview. |
Jking20:Did you even watch that interview the ASUU president had with AriseTV? I watched the interview and he never generalized the state universities. He only referred to UNIOSUN, EKSU and KWASU while he cited KASU and Gombe state university as examples of schools where attempts to truncate the strike by government failed. |
femeritus:I am sure you did not watch that interview he had with AriseTV. I watched the program and the ASUU president never generalized the state universities. He only referred to UNIOSUN, EKSU and KWASU. He then cited KASU as example of the schools where attempts to truncate the strike failed. |
Jking20:Unless you don't care about the plights of millions of Nigerian students at home, you should encourage the government to pay the lecturers. The combative approach Adamu Adamu is trying to employ is never going to work but would rather complicate the matter. I hope someone quickly advises him against such futile approach before it's too late Some of you just type without thinking! Assuming he succeeds in sacking the lecturers (which is not even possible in the present circumstance), how do you expect the government to fill the gap? Do you think it's easy to study up to PhD? Let alone becoming a professor ![]() Adamu Adamu should realize that the interest of the public supercedes his personal ego. He should pay the lecturers their salaries and end this strike. |
Adamu Adamu should stop egotriping with the lecturers, come down from his high horse and pay ASUU their salary arrears. Let him and others stop seeing this strike as a them vs the lecturers fight! I'm sure they'll resolve the strike faster if they do. Those who occupy public offices should be public-spirited enough to cut down personal egos when dealing with public matters. The insinuation that PDP is instigating the strike is immaterial. There are still staunch ASUU NEC members whose allegiances are with the APC. |
shortIGBOman:And if they eventually get paid the six months salary arrears, a biiiiiiiiiiig shame on you! |
shortIGBOman:Stop showing your frustrations on those who are better than you in all aspects. Some of you who can't even read and comprehend simple texts on forums like this are the ones who are always quick to insult lecturers most of whom are encyclopedias of knowledge. If you had truly tried to study for knowledge while in school, you would have known that intellectual work is not easy and should be handsomely paid for. But because you never studied but cheat to pass your exams, hence you think it's easy. |
I think at this point FG should pay ASUU the salary arrears since that has always been the culture since ASUU started striking. Besides, it's not like that money would be properly channeled if not paid, it'll still be looted by the corrupt politicians. What some of us didn't want to hear was that lecturers were getting paid while the students were languishing at home. If they're ready to suspend the strike, then FG should pay them. After all, they need the money to be in the right frame of minds to teach when school resumes. We don't want them transferring the anger on the students if forced to go back to class without pay. The relationship with students was bad on a normal day let alone when they're forced to class without pay. It'll be bloody mehn! Meanwhile, some of these lecturers are good and I know one in particular (a Prof in UNIBEN) that assist indegent students financially from his little salary. So, because of such Godly lecturers, I pray that God touches the hearts of the president and ministers to release their salaries and do the needful to end this strike....Amen |

kingsleyani:I think that's what FG might do next. Sign anything signable and leave ASUU and the next government to battle with the implementation. If I were FG, I'll sign the renegotiated agreement and pay the salary arrears just to get our students back to school. Then, I'll register CONUA and do the little I can afford to do within the short period left for this administration to end, even if it means paying only 3 months salary for the remaining 9 months before handover, if that is the much I can realistically pay. Then ASUU will be left to battle it out with the next government. |
The government just has to do everything to end this strike now. Even if it means paying ASUU for those months not worked for. No problems. Nigerians will now know that ASUU doesn't go on strike for students' interests but for their selfish interests. Next time they mention "patriotic struggle", we'll respond to them appropriately |
rant19ade:We understand what ASUU is fighting for, but when the union becomes unreasonably obstinate, we cannot help but withdraw our supports. An adage says that he who fights and retreats at some point, lives to fight another day! We expect ASUU as a group of intellectuals to be strategic and know when to engage government and when to sheat their swords in the interest of the students they claim to be fighting for. You have a government who has barely 6 months to leave office and stand to lose nothing even if you strike till end of their tenure, and then you think this is the best time to engage them. From Buhari's body language, y'all should know that he doesn't care who wins the next presidential election, so don't even think that threatening to vote out APC is his headache at this time. That man is ready to call ASUU's bluffs until he hands over and there's nothing anybody can do about it! That is why Nigerians are appealing to ASUU to consider the suffering students, take the little they have been offered and suspend the strike. Since next year presents another opportunity for us as a nation to elect a sound mind who would understand the importance of investing heavily in the knowledge economy, let us all work together towards electing such president in the next general election. |
Jostoman:I have been a supporter of ASUU and I quite understand some of their demands, but I think ASUU's insistence on being paid six months backlog of salary before suspending the current strike is an indication that the strikes have so far been about their selfish interests and never for the interest of the students. Many students have died in the course of this strike. Some have given up entirely on pursuing their dream professions. Others have become psychological wrecks, yet ASUU cannot conced some few months salary( at least for now) and suspend the strike. We know that we have a bad government but ASUU should have been more sensitive and consider the students! |
Let CONUA be registered already please! |
NextBuhari:This policy has been in place for long. The last time JOHESU went on strike, their salaries were stopped and it didn't stop them from calling off their strike. |
They have done well by suspending the strike. That's a smart move at this time! I expect ASUU to read the mood of the nation already and suspend their own strike too. ASUU should also begin to strategize on how they can get better deals with the incoming government in terms of funding and even further pay rise without going on strikes. They are supposedly intellectuals but fail to use their intelligence where necessary. They can consult me for a fee if they don't know how to get the next government do the needful |
Kei144:And they'll get paid for covering backlog of work. Payment starts from the month they call off and they won't jump to next session until current sessions end. So they'll be paid for completing the previous session. Meanwhile, some universities were on the verge of writing end-of-session exams when the strike commenced. |
