Kudos to the NLC on this protest! The strike action should follow immediately after the protest if the senseless government fail to resolve the strikes and open up our campuses before Thursday. Enough of the negligence! The monetary loss that will be incurred following the protest and strike would be more than enough to settle the demands of the striking university workers, but our political leaders are too daft to consider that. The poor people of Nigeria must use this opportunity to make our politicians realize that power still resides with the people. BTW, this thread should be on front page |
pocohantas:Hafar Poco? Your sig dey always make me LOL every time I read am |
Lastbornbuns:Your post reeks of ignorance! A professor's work is not just to teach but also to carry out research and community services. None of these three aspects is easy nor comparable to works of a primary school teacher! A professor teaches not only undergraduate students but also postgraduate students( Masters and PhD students). He also examines and marks their exam scripts. He supervises undergraduate and postgraduate (MSC and PhD) students during their research projects etc. Go to a typical Nigerian university and see the multitude of students a professor has to teach in a class! A professor also has to carryout researches and publish the outcomes in reputable journals ( local and international) before he can earn his promotion. It costs a lot of money -- sometimes in hard currencies, to publish research works. Not to talk of the money spent carrying out the research. Materials like reagents, machines etc are quite expensive (where they are available at all in Nigeria). Sometimes, they are bought from overseas and you can imagine the financial implications. Professors also carryout community services. You may doubt it, but when problems arise in the community, professors in universities are usually called in to proffer solutions. It happened during COVID19, even though they were not properly engaged the way they should due to our corrupt political system. Another instance of where professors get engaged to solve problems in the community is during poisoning outbreak. For example, there was once an outbreak of heavy metals poisoning in a state in the northern part of the country. Professors from ABU were called upon and they helped in confirming that it was actually Lead (a heavy metal) and that the source was actually from mining activities taking place there. The list goes on. Let's also not forget that it typically takes a BSc, MSc and PhD to be in the cue for consideration for appointment as a professor while one typically needs just an NCE or at best a B.Ed to be employed as a primary school teacher. Go figure the cost of doing MSc and PhD in this country in terms of time, energy and financial commitments. Let's keep BSc out of the equation. So, let's not be biased in our judgment of issues. Though the importance of primary school teachers should not be be underestimated, they should never be compared with the university professors. They're miles apart! |
Runningwater:Are you daft or something Where did you read from my post that primary school teachers are not important?Their scope of work is simply not as much as that of university lecturers. Arguing with me about that would simply expose your ignorance of the difference between the two. |
Runningwater:Stop comparing a professor with a primary school teacher! The scope of work and qualifications are wide apart. |
morikee:He'll do well if elected |
morikee:I was thinking this way before o but looking at the way things are going, Peter Obi might just pull up a surprise come 2023. THE PEOPLE ARE ANGRY PS: Some of the factors that may have contributed to APC's loss in this election include: 1. Economic hardship in the country 2. ASUU strike |
End ASUU strike! Our youngsters are languishing at home! Welcome back sha |
We know we have demonic politicians ruling this country, but those who are intellectuals and supposedly know better, shouldn't condescend to the level of the corrupt politicians. |
If that's true, it means they're wise after all. |
I just hope ASUU would not allow themselves to get used for political games by any political party as next year's election draws nearer. Tinubu trying to intervene in the strike is good one. If he has the capacity to end the impasse, let him do that while Nigerians vote in accord with their consciences during the election. Our poor students have suffered so much delays in the universities due to ASUU strikes and COVID-19. Anybody who tries to further prolong the strike by politicizing it should be seen as an enemy of Nigerian students. |
Tonyferrad:If your sister is a federal university worker and not getting her salary prior to the strike, then something was wrong somewhere and her case must have been a peculiar one. All federal university workers who registered on IPPIS were getting paid promptly before the strike commenced. |
You people should leave Ngige alone abeg! I don't see him as the problem in this strike. If Buhari wanted to grant ASUU their demand for a humongous salary increment and acceptance of UTAS, he doesn't need Ngige's permission to do that. Ngige is only doing what he's told to do by Buhari. Simple! ASUU members know very well that Buhari is anti public university education and the last person to accept what they proposed on the Brigg's committee, yet they went ahead with the proposal and even allegedly refused to carry key government ministries and agencies along in the renegotiation. It appears that ASUU is the one causing this strike to linger while our helpless students languish at home. Honestly, ASUU is making it difficult for apolitical Nigerians to support their course with the way they have been handling the whole thing. Negotiate something realistic, they won't hear! |
My own is, anybody that can intervene to bring an end to the strike should do that already. Politics or no politics! Let our youngsters go back to school. I also hope ASUU would be reasonable enough to stop the ego trip with government and suspend the strike while negotiations continue. They should have thought about the possibility of government accepting 185% increment in their wages before making such proposal! Prof Osedeko should honestly ask himself if he would accept such astronomical wage increment if he were the president of Nigeria. We know we have bad politicians, but ASUU should be wise enough to know what to ask for when engaging government. They shouldn't be acting like the rogue politicians and expect Nigerians to take them seriously. |
sinkhole:You and I know that is not true! While a few might have published research papers conducted prior to the strike, the majority might not have even opened a book since the strike began, let alone doing research, especially when all the other unions are on strike too. |
Let them meet ASUU abeg. Anything to end this strike |
Charleys:So you're happy that Nigerian students have been idling away at home since the past six months If meeting ASUU will bring an end to the strike, let him do abeg. ASUU on their part should be reasonable. I don't know how those supposedly intellectuals think sometimes. How do they even want to be taken seriously by their peers on the international stage after being out of work for a whooping six months ![]() |
Let ASUU be reasonable in their demands abeg. Let them make a demand that is fair and just so that Nigerians can help them fight in good conscience. We shouldn't indulge our own excesses just because we have bad politicians. We can't build a better society that way! |
oghalebros:This is the gibberish they'll come up with to deceive foolish Christians during their campaigns! Nonsense! All the years Muslims have been in power, what shitty development have they achieved If not religious crisis everywhere and looting our national treasury![]() Islamization of Nigeria is now taking place in full force but gullible people won't see it. |
So they can kill him and inherit whatever wealth his benefactor bequeaths to him |
If we had a proactive NANS, they'll organize themselves and stage a protest right there in Daura to disrupt Buhari's Sallah and remind him that Nigerian students have spent so long at home languishing away due to ASUU strike. |
I hope you'll support a Christian-christian ticket if we come up with that someday Hypocrites who dish out what they can't take! |
Celebrating Salah while Nigerian students have been languishing at home since the past 6 months due to ASUU strike! When you expect our leaders to demonstrate leadership expertise, they fail woefully because they were never qualified to lead. Tell me what's so difficult in signing an agreement you initiated through the Brigg's committee and getting ASUU back to classes. Why all the wait? Knowing that Nigerian students have lost so long a time due to COVID19 and the incessant ASUU strikes? |
Men are not allowed to have standards! Only women can have standards because the world revolves around them. That's what this yeye op means |
meobizy:Sorry my dear! I was once like you before I delved into seeking knowledge by myself. |
TrollsNeverDies:That guy's experience must have happened in a trance state. Humans can interact with the spirits in those two states (trance and dreams). Many of you doubting Thomases have not experienced things that's why you keep doubting the spirituals. Mind you, the West some of you use as standards in your unbelief know that the spiritual realm is a reality. The fact that they focus on improving our physical plane of existence doesn't mean they doubt the spiritual plane. |
meobizy:Logs of wood don't possess the quantum of energy a human possesses! |
grossintel:That's it oo. People would just come up with one unverified theory and boom! It starts spreading. That's naija for you |
Illiteracy at its peak. You better go to hospital and check what's wrong with you! |
ogbuefi677:I ji ya! |
Golan007:Igbos don't support out of spite or direct benefit! Igbos supported Obasanjo in 1999-2007 Igbos supported Yar'adua in 2007- 2009 They also supported Jonathan in 2011-2015. Just because they didn't support Buhari due to his bad records as military head of state and his religious fanaticism, some of you now misrepresent facts and accuse Igbos what they are not! Today, all of us are feeling the effects of bad leadership and religious biases which Buhari is known for. Igbos simply saw it all coming and that was why they didn't support Buhari. Even at the moment, despite that Obi is one of their own, many Igbos still support Atiku and even Tinubu. I personally supported Osinbajo because I believed he will do well. But the curse on Nigeria that has deprived us of good leaders is still potent. That is why Obi might not win. |
